it seems that all the old character abilities have just been made it to badges, lugi’s high jump=high jump badge. Peaches floating=parachute cap badge. Toads dat pace run=fast dash badge
I wouldn't be surprised if unique character physics were removed in favour of the badge system with Luigi's jump turning into the floating jump, Peach's glide becoming the parachute glide, Toad (possibly) becoming the jet run badge and Daisy (possibly) becoming the mid-air spin. With Toadette, I think maybe make her an inbetween of Mario and Toad, making her jump a bit higher than Toad but less than Mario and faster than Mario but slower than Toad. I think it'd also be interesting to give her a super weak glide as a nod to Peachette, but I don't know how that could be implemented.
Mario Wonder modding is continuously blowing my mind. When level modding becomes easier, I definitely would love to take a crack at it, and being able to so easily manipulate character physics is going to be extremely fun to mess around with. My parachute hat goes off to all the current modders of the game!
Luigi's drawback in 3d world is that is footing is a lot slipperier then the other characters, so he's harder to control. Peach's float is balanced by being slower, and Toad as fastest BUT while he jumped as high as Mario, his hangtime was much much shorter
I think it would be more accurate to give each character their physics from Super Mario Run, since that game was kinda not really part of the NSMB series. So Luigi has his higher jump and scuttle, Peach can glide very similarly to the parachute cap which makes it a perfect fit IMO, Toad runs faster but jumps lower, Toadette is like Toad but runs slightly slower, and Daisy has a double jump. So to match Mario Run, you'd just have to give Luigi his scuttle (the thing he does with his legs to make him fall slower) and maybe give him his slipperyness from NSLU, give Toadette the same physics as Toad but slightly slower (so maybe multiplying by 1.05 instead of 1.1?) and maybe modify the Dolphin Kick to make her swimming akin to NSMBUD, and for Daisy maybe change the parameters of the Boosting Spin Jump to make it more akin to a double jump. Anyways, great video!
Fun fact: daisy can double jump in mario run. Also another fun fact: if you want to give toadette an ability for her physics just give her both the dolphin kick, faster swimming & the anti bounce badge. For yoshis just make them take one hit before they die.
I love how the floaty jump animation is referred to in files as "luigi". Like, it was obvious already, it's just nice to see. Is "Strength" a Parameter? Daisy seems like she would be stronger than the other characters since she's so sporty and stuff. I don't SEE it in the list, though... I dunno, make her slower but jump twice as hard or something
Daisy should have a double jump like in Super Mario Run, Toadette could maybe fall faster or jump faster, and Luigi should have slippery physics, that was his drawback in 3D world and lost levels for having a higher jump. Also Peach runs a bit slower because of her floaty jump physics.
Daisy had a double jump in mario run Toadette had uh...she made the ref toad? She was the most popular character in toad rally. Maybe there could be something like bonus items given or enemies stopping attacking and having heart eyes. Idk
Just so everybody knows they're two different blue toads the one that can run fast and the one that copies Mario and Luigi's moveset certain people in the corner of the internet call them buckenberry.
Neat idea! I thought about this very idea just a few days ago, when I saw how much in this game is customizable As for Peach, as far as I know you can edit the mid-air twirl to make a character stay longer in "no gravity" mode, which would make it similar to Peach's floating ability
You can actually find character physics for Toadette and Daisy by looking the Super Mario RUN mobile app. I’m not sure how many people still remember it, but in that game, Daisy can double jump by using her dress to create more lift while in the air. Toadette had this mechanic where she could make other Toads attracted to her which would give you more points. I’m not sure how that would apply to this game, but I guess you could stick with the speed theme of road and make her faster while also making her jump higher. It could be like a mix of toad’s speed and Luigi’s jump, but maybe you can dial both down by half so it’s still balanced.
My suggestions: Mario: All around Luigi: Higher jump but more slippery. Peach: Floaty jump but slower Daisy: Won’t struggle with sand or ice, but drops faster when falling. Toads: Faster, lower jump. Toadette: Higher spin jump, needs timing to do wall jumps Yoshis: Same as base game Nabbit: One up mushrooms snatched at the end = 5UPs
I was really disappointed that they didn’t keep the specific character skills they had in 3D World, I loved being able to jump higher with Luigi and hover with Peach, so this is awesome
I don't know how complicated this is, but I'd love for you to add the collision back from the original NSMB games. If not, it'd still be cool to know how something like that could theoretically done.
Although I've seen this feature requested a lot, I honestly doubt anyone will be able to properly implement it. The amount of custom animation / player code that would have to be implemented seems unfeasible for anyone other than the original development team of the game in my opinion. However, I'd love to be proven wrong.
This is the first time i see a hacking channel actually go through the process instead of just saying "i tweaked some stuff and boom, check out Luigi's jump". Immediately subbed
There's actually a robust physics engine under the game engine that is very rarely utilized; There are 2 game objects which makes use of this enhanced physics engine: rotating triangular 'platforms' which has angled knockback, and the sliding thwomp, which can knock and bounce off each other in the single section of the map where you can make their platforms rotate at variable angles to angle two of those sliding thwomps towards each other.
Daisy could obviously have her Double Jump, but i guess the Boosting Spin Jump Badge already does that But imagine having 3 jumps?!? For Toadette... you probably have the Super Mushroom replaced with the Crown to turn her into Peachette(?) And then she can have her Glide, Double Jump, and I guess a Safety Jump back.
I saw absolutely nobody mention Yoshi, so here goes. Yoshi has a high af run speed, and a NOTORIOUSLY fast air speed. He's has the fastest air speed in Smash Bros, and he's the same in his original games, as well as in random appearances, like Odyssey. I remember being able to airdrift over a huge staircase in Yoshi's Island DS without having to touch the ground once. Also also, in the original Yoshi's Island games, you can technically flutter jump infinitely if you had decent timing. If you made it so Yoshi could perform flutter jumps infinitely, that would be cool. Yoshi kinda has the wildest physics of any Mario character, it always pains me when Nintendo doesn't use it consistently. He's kind of like Sonic but in the air.
Luigi: Higher jump height with lower fall speed, with lower friction Peach: Temporary mid-air floating with lower speed The Toads: Higher speed with lower jump height Daisy: Mario Run gave her a double jump, which is the only real platform schtick she has, so giving her that alongside lower speed than Peach to compensate would be my preferred way to differentiate her. Toadette: Honestly, she doesn't really have a schtick. Her unique traits in NSMBUDeluxe belonged to the Peachette form, and she otherwise handles like your typical character. We could cop out and say she handles like the Toads since she's a Toad herself. Otherwise, we're going to have to improvise. Maybe allow her to temporarily cling to walls when she jumps towards them, rather than immediately sliding down? Either lower jump height, speed, or friction to compensate for this (if not as drastic as the other characters with those weaknesses). Or maybe it's just better that we keep her controlling just like Mario. Not everyone needs to handle completely different from one another after all. Yoshis and Nabbit are fine as they are. You could remove collision detection from Nabbit and have him just go past any enemy and obstacle in the game to emulate how he was in NSLU/NSMBUDeluxe, but it's not a dealbreaker.
i honestly think that every character should have aditional badge, like mario would have automatically timed high jump, luigi would have floating high jump etc and you could wear one aditional badge
If every mario wonder character had unique physics: Mario: Nothing. Luigi: Taller jump but more slippery Toads: Faster run but lower jump. Toadette: Turns around quicker but lower jump. Peach: Falls slower but moves slower. Daisy: Higher jump but worse midair movement. Nabbit and Yoshi already have unique traits so they do not need anything extra. These would be able to be toggled. I considered giving toadette her super crown and better swimming as a refrence but they don't really have much use in wonder. Plus, theres already badges which do the exact same thing.
Peach can float in the air for a short amount of time but moves slower, like in 3D World Daisy can double jump, but she either is slower or has a lower jump. Toadette is more maneuverable and can swim faster and with more control
Maybe Toadette could have a special spin jump that can do stuff with her pigtails? Maybe her pigtails reach out farther than other characters to activate or break blocks/enemies!
Daisy and Toadette actually have their own mechanics. In Mario run daisy had a double jump and in new super Mario bros U deluxe Toadette could swim like she had a penguin suit.
Something really goofy I've noticed when playing around with this is that whatever character you select when you first start the game is the one whose behavior script is loaded and even if you go all the way back to the main menu to switch it will keep the same behavior loaded
yeah I encountered the same thing, I'm sure programmers who are smarter than me will be figure out a way of having the physics get swapped on the fly, but for now it's still better than each character sharing the same file at all times I suppose
Toadettes hair twirls around like helicopter rotors during her spin jump animation. You could maybe increase her spin jump height and maybe possibly decrease her falling speed?
daisy at this point has been shown in mario run to have a double jump that might be neat, and toadette could literally have anything maybe higher jumping velocity or she falls faster
Great video. As a casual speedrun enjoyer though, I'm afraid in like 2 years there's gonna be a Karl Jobst video of how someone edited the params ever so slightly to go undetected in taking the WR or something lmao.
haha that's a good point, though I feel like at least things like edited run speed should be easy to spot, there might be more subtle modifications that could make the game easier for cheaters
Daisy should have her double jump from Mario run and run slightly faster not as fast as the Toads but a bit faster to reference her in the sports games. I wish the OG Toad was in this game rather than the coloured ones or at least along with the coloured ones. I would've loved to play as him
My biggest wish for a mod is a plausible Wario including his shoulder bash. Ideally invincible like in Wario Land 2, but with much greater knockback than Yoshi; or, including a small faithful "small" Wario if he has health. Dream scenario: if each powerup works, they will include small nods to Wario's games, like his Elephant could just be his Phat version.

Daisy should have her mario run double jump
In Super Mario Run, once you unlock Daisy, she has a double jump. So you could give her one here too.
I think yellow toad could have a double jump and toadette could have a safety
jump allready equipped
A Captain Toad campaign would be so much fun to try!
Was a little disappointed that character traits didn't return
Daisy already has unique physics in Super Mario Run.
daisy at this point has been shown in mario run to have a double jump that might be neat, and toadette could literally have anything maybe higher jumping velocity or she falls faster
it is INCREDIBLE how modular this game is
Luigi’s drawback is he has mini ice physics everywhere on the ground (as in he slides a bit more)
Great video.
I would've loved to play as him
I know jack shit about modding, making games, etc, but this makes it seems like modding in unique custom characters very possible
The first thing you were mentioning about how easy it is to edit stuff is another advantage of modulesystem
3:30 toadette also adds 100 extra timer seconds and I think she's as fast as toad, daisy has a double jump from super mario run
A badge that gives characters unique physics would have been sick
You should definitely make "Captain Toad's Wonderful Adventure"
Daisy uses a Double Jump in Super Mario Run. I recommend it.
super mario on the ps4
*wahoo*
Very fun to mess around - makes me wonder why Nintendo didn't give them different physics. I guess is to keep consistency with 2d levels.
Toadette already has a double jump ability in Super Mario Run, would be cool to see that in Wonder
Daisy could float like peach, but Daisy is slightly faster and Peach jumps slightly higher out of the two.
Make yoshi take damage and collect powerups
it would be kind of funny if when you spin/spin jump as toadette, you can damage enemies becuase she has pigtails
Someone should try to make multiplayer collision a thing, picking up is a plus if possible
