went to high school with one of the Harvard players. I remember watching the game live because I figured it would be cool to see someone I knew play in the tournament. Had no idea it would be a historic game, but I'm glad I stayed up that night to watch it.

Because Stanford’s two best players , Kristin Folkl (no relation to Cletus, The Slack-Jawed Yokel) and Vanessa Nygaard, were out with injuries.
FUN FACT: Harvard’s Allison Feaster is the mum of Sarah Strong, who by most accounts is the No. 1 recruit in the country this year. Strong has yet to commit to a program.

True. The Crimson did it first, but UMBC won by 20!

That's what annoys me, the media talk about the two times it's happened in the men's (as of 2023) as if the 1998 Harvard womens' upset had never happened or somehow didn't count. Same 16 team format in both, so the Harvard womens' counts as much as the UMBC and Fairleigh Dickinson mens' teams'.

@@mach6893 Sorry, I didn't mean your comment, I'm just annoyed by the way the media just automatically snubs the mention of this game when mentioning the mens' #16 upsets. And for the record, I agree with that earlier comment, because UMBC's upset has, by far, been the most impressive of the three.

@@05steelersrule08I think it’s partially because Harvard itself is a very prestigious institution so people don’t tend to view them as underdogs. Same reason why Princeton’s run got relatively little attention compared to FGCU and ORU’s

Wonder if a sixteen seed could win a 16v1 match up straight-up without injuries playing a major role. This and the UMBC/Virginia game featured the top-seeded team with major injury issues. Not dunking on Harvard or UMBC but medical issues were a legitimate factor on both occasions.

Student Athletes too. As in, two of the best schools in the country period.... and those players too. Stanford does not offer any reuirement adjustments for athletes, every player you see at Stanford, had the grades to get in already. Harvard, even more so as the Ivy League doesn't even offer athletic scholarships.

Men basketball is threatened by women basketball. I watch a NBA game the other night. Soon as whoever got the ball pass half court they do a dribble move or two and shoot it. No ball movement no looking for a better shot, no teamwork. The nba guys are so good its boring to look at. Then the best college guys play one year and they're off to the nba. Jackson from Tennessee women's team a projected #5 overall pick but she's coming back for her 5th covid exception year. The nil got college girls making more money than they would pro and all this together makes for a better watch experience watching college girls. This is a serious threat and that's why you always find people hating on the women's game. I mean how often do you comment on something you don't like?
