I met her years ago while fixing her phone.we talked for an hour ,she was the most beautiful actress I ever met. I will miss her charm and warmth, love you Marcia
I am a huge fan of Welcome Back Kotter and can't get enough of the show. I became a big fan of the show when in1990 when I was 10, I saw it on reruns on our local Channel 45 here in Phoenix, AZ when I was recovering from knee surgery, it made me laugh and feel good. I love Gabe Kaplan, John Travolta, and developed a huge crush on Marcia Strassman. A few years ago for my birthday my Mom bought me the entire 4 Season Boxed Set of Welcome Back Kotter. When I watch the show I always wished I had grew up in the 1970's. :)
That last picture is how I remember her too. She really retained her looks in a natural way not overly pulled, tucked, dermaplaned, botoxed...in my mind she's still young. RIP...
Beautiful tribute to Marcia Strassman, Dave. I had no idea Marcia had passed away, and didn't even know she had cancer. More and more, parts of my childhood are slipping away. I was a huge fan of this show and always thought the Sweathogs were the most hilarious guys on TV. One of the best sitcom themes ever...they don't write 'em like that anymore. Wish I had kept all my Sweathog memorabilia...lunch kit, and T-shirts...might be worth a bit of coin these days. Thanks for posting. RIP, Marcia.

Marcia's character always seemed to be so patient with Kaplan's. I loved Horseback the best, but all of the kids were a scream! :-D I grew up in the 1970's and 80's and there were so many good shows! It was a great time to be a kid! :-) I remember the first day of my senior year in high school and over the intercom, the theme to Welcome Back Kotter came on. My eyes lit up like a Christmas tree and I asked the other kids, "Do you remember what show this was on?" A couple couldn't remember but once I jogged their memory, the lights in their eyes came on too. Great times! :-D
I seem to remember reading somewhere that she was very active in Hollywood even when she was not in front of the camera. She was active in the Screen Actor's Guild. When she died I saw passing mentions of her death in the media but she was never on any list like "Celebrities We've Lost this Year" which was a shame.
I was born in 1971 so I was really really young when most of these TV shows were on and when they went off but I do have fond memories of watching them 😊😊😊
A joyous and sad story all at once. I am glad she was able to reconcile and grow a friendship with Gabe Kaplan. She looked great in that WBK reunion photo. And, she was in my all time favorite tv series, M*A*S*H*. Oh...and wow, could she rock a pair of denim cutoff shorts! Thanks for posting this, Dave. Hope you're having a great new year.
Its nice when we can put aside our differences, let go of all the hate and just try and come together, looking into Strassman's story you realize that life is too short. It was shame that Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle never sorted out their beef and she died having never settled that, very sad. I think when you're at death's end none of that shit matters, its worse thing you can do is take things to the grave.
@@RaikenXion Agreed. Life is too short for petty things....and just about everything is petty when compared to larger world concerns. Everyone lives sort of in their own world, so to them, their problems seem greater than anything, but it kinda costs us our humanity when we let pettiness keep us down.
@@martok2112 I agree, which is why we need to practice compassion, trouble is our world (especially in the west) is designed to be based on materialism self-gain. It makes many people selfish and self conscious.
@@RaikenXion Yep. This falls back to the pettiness I spoke of. Pettiness can occur on both sides of the aisle from the haves and have nots. The haves can be quite generous and compassionate to see that those less fortunate than themselves can at least survive, or enjoy a small sampling of the life that the haves enjoy. They can also be quite stingy, feeling that everything they've gained is as a result of hard work and determination alone, and that the only others who deserve such wealth and prosperity are those of a similar mindset, and are at least making the effort. On the have nots side, I've seen compassion from them towards others of similar circumstances as themselves. And I've seen downright vulturism towards each other, and towards those who are somehow better off. It's the pettiness of some people that can make it difficult to share for many others.
Sorry to hear that she passed away. I liked her in the show, even though I wasn't crazy about the show. My classmates loved it, so I felt compelled to watch it to keep up.
Thanx Dave. This was a great vid on another great TV show that brought forth so many terrific actors when the series was over. Along with a very popular theme song..."Welcome Back.." Some school districts, throughout the country, still play this on the first day back from summer vacation. Catchy tune. Julie always had to listen to Kotter's Sweathog stories. Great memories.
Love the song, Larry! And just like Alice Cooper's "School's Out" on the last day of school, "Welcome Back" on the first day of school is absolutely the right thing to do. 🙂
The theme song was sung by John B. Sebastian, and it was a big hit in the summer of 1976, during America's Bicentennial! John Sebastian was the lead singer of The Lovin' Spoonful in the mid-1960s, and hadn't had any hits since the late '60s, so this was a comeback for him.
@@mel1nda12ax7...Thanx for the history on the song. Still a very popular tune. Warms my heart. The vid in the beginning of the show with the theme song was kind of depressing, but, I realize the reality of it all.
@@mel1nda12ax7 ...Yep. A TV show theme song being a hit on radio. Reminds me of another TV show hit a few years before that...in the late 60's...Hawaii 5-0.
Her single "The Flower Children", was actually a substantial hit in the SF bay are during spring/summer of 1967, reaching as high as #7 on the KYA Top 30. I don't know if it's her over-phrasing or her bad intonation, but even as a young teen growing up not far from the whole hippy thing this was a song that sent me turning the tuning knob on my radio to another station. Her falsetto at the end is kind of nice. Good thing for her she was a pretty good actress.
Just saw this vid, it really struck a cord with me, and yes I will subscribe! Born in 1964, good times, good memories from yesteryear back in Brooklyn, NY, this series really appealed to Me! I hope to really enjoy your channel while I reminisce with some childhood buddies; blessings!

Hello I am a new subcriber to your channel, and I remember looking forward as, a little kid to watching Welcome back, kotter and imitating their one liners and styles with my friends!!! I just turned 51 years of age, last month and believe me viewing this tribute about Marcia Strassman, brings back special memories when life , music, and television programs were fun and very positive to enjoy and not the negative images of today!!! It saddens me to hear of what has happened to her!!! Because she was truly a very beautiful, and intelligent woman!!! I love this channel and fully support your endeavors!!! Keep up the Great work, this channel is Awesome!!! Old School Memories, like no other!!!
Welcome Back Kotter was one of my favorites shows. As a teenager who was starting High School it gave me no insight into High School, but it gave me insight into humor. Travolta was everyone's favorite, including himself. But Marcia was the darling of the show. They could have broadened her role in the show. Towards the end when Gabe wanted out and was mysteriously absent she was given more prominence and a job at the school. Not sure where they were going with the show as they were all over the place. Making them parents and moving them into a bigger place. Woodman's role might've been too large, he got screen time that should have been regulated to once biweekly. Julie always seemed like the smart loveable hippie chick, and they could have handled this exploring her as something other that a "straight man/woman" as opposed to Gabe's constant Funnyman antics. She was another classic beauty under utilized on a tv show.
You're welcome, Michael! Truthfully, you guys all help me come up with new topics. Case in point, in the comments on my Jan Smithers video, lots of folks made it a point to mention the similarities between Jan and Marcia.
In the mid to late 70s when most guys my age (born in 60) had a thing for the Farrah Fawcett type, I was more into the ladies like Marcia, Jan Smithers (Bailey on WKRP) Erin Grey and of course Lynda Carter
Im in my early thirties but im with you on that, those were real women. They were mature but also had the youthful beauty too, its abit hard to explain what i mean hopefully you know what im getting at haha.
I met her breifly in the early 2000s while working at Beverly Hills Luggage, which by that time was the worse luggage store I had ever worked for but got a lot of older celebrities from the days when the store was still good. I was amazed at how beautiful she still was because I was just a kid when Welcome Back Kotter was on! She was also very kind and I will never forget meeting her..
I have never understood my obsession with the lives of famous people? But I have one!!! Especially television, and movie stars. Love your channel. You treat everyone with great respect.
Very nice tribute. A tragic end to a beautiful lady. RIP I think TV soured Kaplan. He hosted the Oscars, where they butchered his routine. He played professional poker. I got to know him a little when he played at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ. I worked there for a long time.
The first 2 1/2 seasons I remember fondly. Unfortunately, it started going downhill once Kaplan was battling the producers and all but disappeared from his own show, Travolta went on to big screen stardom, and the writing itself took a nosedive. I really wish we could have had a reunion special before the passing of several former cast members. Half the fun would be to have a reunion at Buchannan HS and see what became of everyone. For some reason, I pictured Horshack and Mary having had success with the small business they ran from their apartment and became quite wealthy. Barbarino was studying to be a doctor and perhaps he could have finally become one (an OBGYN of course!), Washington would have maybe tried to play for the NBA, but was dropped due to an injury - and perhaps became a coach somewhere. Epstein would have opened the first of a chain of Puerto Rican-Jewish fusion restaurants. Gabe and Julie would have still been married and the twins long since grown - and looking at retirement and Julie wondering if she could handle having Gabe tell her relative jokes all day long..
Man, a reunion show was such a missed opportunity! I may need to turn your comment into a video on it's own...I'll make sure to give credit where credit is due. 🙂
MegaMagicdog: You're certainly right about that there should have been a reunion show!! That definitely was a missed opportunity, all right! I can't believe that so many people involved with the show are gone now: James Komack (the producer), Marcia Strassman (Julie Kotter), Robert Hegyes (Juan Epstein), Ron Pallilo (Arnold Horshack) and John Sylvester White (Mr. Woodman, the vice principal). John Sylvester White was the first to go (died in the summer of 1988, I believe), which isn't too surprising, as he looked to be about 75 years old back when the show was new! It really shocked me that not just one, but TWO Sweathogs - first Robert Hegyes (Epstein) and then Ron Pallilo (Horshack) both died within a relatively short time.
@@jdsundstrom I love the idea! In fact, I can think of a series of videos dedicated to "What could have/should have been": The Monkees never had an in-universe origin story, what would you, the viewer have wanted to see onscreen? Many TV shows from an earlier era didn't have proper closures in their finales, how would you have ended them? If TV show X had a reunion movie, where do you think the characters would have ended up? So many possibilities!!
In the '70s, she played largely passive and expendable characters, but women then were mostly limited to being love interests, as with M*A*S*H, or comedic sidekicks, as on Kotter. She was gifted beyond her outer beauty and finally got to display her talents. Terrific person!

In the 70's she was hot in an era where blondes had more fun. She excuded Beauty & Brains. Naturally sexy. 😎
Precisely.
I never realized she was also on MASH even though I've seen repeats of those episodes. Nice vid.
She was Beautiful and made ppl smile. Bless her she made me smile.
RIP Marcia. Had a wild crush on you back in the day. Know you’re in heaven watching us all
Well said, 2rundmc1!
Yep, both happy and sad. Pretty much like life for all of us. I hope you and your family are having a great new year as well, martok2112!
Larry Geary: I still really like the song. What is scary is that I can remember it being a hit at the time!
@@mel1nda12ax7 ...Yep. A TV show theme song being a hit on radio. Reminds me of another TV show hit a few years before that...in the late 60's...Hawaii 5-0.
I loved that show. It made me fell not so alone. I have a learning disability. Thank you for this video
You're welcome, Katrina Dymond!
I new I recognized her character in MASH! Loved MASH & Kotter, and she was a cutie!
As a child of the 70s I grew up watching WBK & Mash. Loved both! Rest well Marcia. Gone much to soon!
found her to be a very attractive woman....RIP Marcia Strassman...
Such a good actress and so easy to watch.
Thanks for subscribing, Captain Ed!
I always confused Marcia Strassman and Jan Smithers; two of my favorites sitcom comediennes.
You are definitely not the only one who has done that. 🙂
Ultimate bargains I did that too I confuse Marcia Strassman and Jan Smithers both were amazing looking women very funny as well
A very respectful and touching video. Glad you shared.
I loved her in MASH and Kotter.
Marcia Strassman, Pam Dawber, Erin Gray, Kate Jackson and Jan Smithers were always on my watch list and radar back in the 70's. Thanks for posting Dave. Sometimes I think it was the clothes and hairstyles of these women that really caught my eye. Did not know she had passed. Sorry to hear that. Always enjoyed watching her on Welcome Back. Good stuff.
This girl was gorgeous
Totally.
Randy Hutchinson no not gorgeous unless you've never seen good looking women before !
I thought she was wonderful. Welcome Back Kotter and Honey I Shrunk the Kids were my favorite shows with her. I was very saddened to hear of her passing. She left us too soon but with great memories. Great video Dave. Thank you.
I didn't realize how beautiful she really was. I guess she had to be to star on MASH & Welcome Back Kotter.
aww man i used to have such a crush on her back in the day in 1975 i was 9 yrs old in grade school and she was like my first tv crush, she was pretty and soo 70's cool , so sad to know she passed away
Finally gave in and subscribed today. You manage to make fun videos about people I've never even heard of in many cases. This was no exception. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for subscribing, John!
Rest In Peace Marcia.
Thanks Dave! You really do present the "good stuff!" She was one of my favorites for sure!
Thanks Keith!
What a wonderful person she will be missed 👍
Simply the best innocent beauty at the time! Definitely had a crush on her!
Thanx for posting!
Good stuff, LCBB! Thanks for sharing your insights. 🙂
Thank you Dave for another great video! You really know how to find the good ones !
You and me both, DI!
@@jdsundstrom Me too and I was born 1958!
Im in my early thirties but im with you on that, those were real women. They were mature but also had the youthful beauty too, its abit hard to explain what i mean hopefully you know what im getting at haha.
Yeah, on Charlie's Angels Jackltn Smith was the stand out for me.
Beautiful inside and out. R.i.p 🌹
I have never understood my obsession with the lives of famous people? But I have one!!! Especially television, and movie stars. Love your channel. You treat everyone with great respect.
her and Bailey from WKRP were my two favorites
She was so pretty! It's heartbreaking that she is gone, so sad. 💔
most of the celebrities I grew up with are dead.
i could probably count on one hand the ones still aroumd
Were you born when the Titanic sank?
@@cgasucks... not quite...a mere product of the 60's.
Cgasucks, i grew up in the 50's, how many actors can you name that are left?
Me too, and I'm 47.
Very nice tribute. A tragic end to a beautiful lady. RIP
I think TV soured Kaplan.
@@jdsundstrom Thanks! That would be awesome!!
I enjoy your videos, they are respectful tributes. Thank you for your work.
I am glad that you enjoy my videos, Jeff!
Thanks Dave. Being a child who grew up in the 60's and 70's, this really brings back good memories. Thanks again.
You're most welcome, William. 🙂
In the '70s, she played largely passive and expendable characters, but women then were mostly limited to being love interests, as with M*A*S*H, or comedic sidekicks, as on Kotter. She was gifted beyond her outer beauty and finally got to display her talents. Terrific person!
Well done.....sir, well done
Thank you, Mark. I really appreciate the kind words.
I loved Welcome Back Litter... I still watch the reruns when they are aired.... R.I.P. Marsha
Their was something about her that I could not take my eyes off of her.
