Evidence Of Saint Peter's Body? - The Naked Archaeologist 202 - The Search for St. Peter

- Featuring amateur archaeologist, enthusiast and multi-award winning investigative filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici, The Naked Archaeologist is an irreverent, entertaining and eye-opening journey into the fascinating archaeology of the ancient world. Along the way, new discoveries are made, lost treasures revealed, and ancient mysteries uncovered.
At the Vatican in Rome stands the most iconic Christian church in the world, St. Peter's Basilica. It's named after the one-time fisherman turned saint St Peter. According to Christian tradition, Peter is buried deep in the catacombs underneath the basilica. But is there any actual archaeological proof that St. Peter is there? - Розваги
It’s really too bad that this superb program is no longer being produced.
Thank you for the Naked Archeologist! Love this show. Wish it was still on
idol , I know
@faultroy I actually think I'm learning quite a bit. In this ep for example, I learned that people are split over Peter. And that Jacobovici thinks he's in Jerusalem.
@faultroy Well. That argument could be used against a lot of things!
@faultroy Well, I dont agree on it being mindless. As I am actually learning a lot of stuff about the biblical stories.
@faultroy haha. Alright. Guess we understand eachother at least. Wish you a pleasant evening or respective point of day, dependent on your time zone.
I read the Bible like 10x however this series be teaching me so much biblical things I feel like I need to read it again with a new perspective.
Thank you, favorite Television series!
Mine too... I need a fix of him at least everyday..
Ha Ha. I assure you. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is NOT built on Peter's remains.
He's a tall tall man!!!
Lol
Doesn't get old, ages like wine
And a big big fake
In the last day..Peter will rise in the resurection and if your interested you will know if Peter was buried in Rome..or Isreal..wherever he was buried if..he was buried , he will come forth ..

Absolutely love the wonderful chance to view all the Naked Archaeologist videos. Just found you 3 days ago and have watched every one. Some I've watched twice. So interesting and insightful I forgot to click "like" on most.
I plan on watching all of them again and click "like" and "share" on each.
Thank you for an extraordinary series.
Peace,
Hi kathy
I have just done the same thing
You have great taste
I typed in archaeological videos & this was among the options
...slightly misleading, archaeology is a science, it's not something amateurs are allowed to go near, once archaeology its damaged it can't be replaced and done again the right way.
Archaeology is like pages from a book, rip pages out & bits of the story are missing, thsts why archaeology is a profession, a science and not something amateurs can do....
Great video's thanks for sharing ❤
Fabulous. Love it
I love this series. I've found that I learn more every time I watch an episode... I'm starting my fourth time watching the whole catalog! I just wonder what Simcha is up too now?
I Think now like simcha think that st Peter resting place is in Rome. Why avoid simcha because they are full of shit like the people of the pyramids who are now saying it was aliens 😴😴🤭
You crack me up, funny comment about the guards smashing Peter's head into the brick wall ... BEFORE they were converted (wouldn't want anyone to think they'd that after they were converted)! :)
😂 love last comment: "...it would cost lots of money to move Vatican here!" . great work😇
An explanation why the bones were on the wall, not in the tomb, was to protect the bones from being vandalized.

We walk by faith, here or there at Peter is everywhere.....
A possible explanation. An osuary (however it is spelled) is a bone box. Some bones could be in both places due to the middle ages and their demand for relics. I have no idea just saying.
If you believe that then I got some land to sell you in the the Florida Everglades lol
That did indeed happen. For example, the relics of the Apostle Andrew (brother to Peter) are in various churches throughout Europe.
My favorite to date. Typical of the Vatican to Hide in plain sight the truth of the matter.
Good work Simcha.
“Does it really matter?” Great quote to explain religion.
I really enjoy your findings
"You can have a force of truth built upon the general acceptance of something to be true, whether the evidence supports it or not" - Kent Bartlett
"There can only be one truth".
Pat Aherne
Or whether claimed evidence supports what is passed off as what the evidence points to. Evidence needs to speak for itself, and there's a lot of evidence that gets interpreted through the lense of a presupposed world view, making it appear to support that world view.
@@RM3MB3R yes thats what religion does. It makes up its own truth and tries to pass it off to ignorant people as truth when there is absolutely no evidence of truth whatsoever.
It was St Paul who went to Rome not St Peter. The Vatican has got it wrong.....along with a few of its doctrines.
Peter AND Paul were in Rome.
Nothing in the Holy Scriptures Peter is in Rome...St. Paul I say....!!
None of this is archeology. It’s just legend
Happy birthday, keep up your most interesting and inspiring docos
This video was produced as a work of entertainment, not archaeological evidence. If you are interested in a detailed account of the evidence found during the excavations below St. Peter's, then read "The Fisherman's Tomb" by John O'Neill (available on Amazon). This book also explains the history behind why the original St. Peter's Basilica was built on that location on Vatican Hill (the city of Rome encompasses 7 hills), which is strong evidence in support of the tradition.
Sowing the seeds of doubt
Simcha Is awesome & I love this show
Peter's footless body was found - they cut him don quickly cutting off his feet, which would have been nailed in his crucifixion ! During crucifixion, they were not nailed through hands and feet as often portrayed as the weight of the body would have ripped through. They were nailed through the ankle bones, where there is a gap and through the wrist above the hand where again there is a gap between the bones, which would have held the body and been as painful as possible.
My favorite show and Simcha's my favorite host!!!♥️✡️♥️
I was told it was a Roman Catholic doctrine that there was really only one true church. I suppose that one would be St. Peter's Basilica.
Dude! The church is the people united in faith, not a building. They may meet to worship in a building, but the church is people!

What a gem this series is! Too bad I only discovered it now. I’m a fan of Mr. Simcha. The last part was surely a test of patience 😁
I am inclined to believe that Peter’s remains are in Jerusalem. He’s Jewish after all. I’ve been to the Dominus Flevit Church. The fact that they refuse to speak makes me think they’re hiding something 😁 I’ve learned a lot from this series, the key is to have an open mind while watching.
There you have good science. He say's "If people believe it's true, it doesn't matter if it's true or not." This is simcha's philosophy...
And years later John and Paul (two real apsthols ) got together and preached... all you need is love...
And if you noticed they said if there was no religion that would be no wars in their songs
@@leejackson4671 that's an old claim that most of the wars were done in the name of religion; however, the Encyclopedia of War has shown that only a small fraction of the entire history of war was because of religion, and most of those were by Muslims.

As a christian, I have never heard of these legends. However I did read about the pagan idol made from a meteorite that was in Pergamos was moved to Rome prior to Christ... It was known as the Petra roma, the book of stone.... The letters do state that Peter and his wife were in Cappadocia and to Babylon, but no where other than Roman Catholic tradition do we find evidence of him going to Rome.

If there are thousands and thousands of people were crucified why isn't there more evidence? ONly one has been found. Love this show. Wish it was still on.
I love this guy!
I wasn't raised Catholic so don't have any tie in to Catholic traditions, it makes more sense to go by what was in the Bible. And from my own reading (one doesn't have to be Catholic to be Christian), I saw that Peter was the Apostle to the Jews, while Saul of Tarsus (Paul) was the later apostle assigned to the Gentiles.
Add to that, with respect to relics, that if every fragment of the "true cross" that have been around since the middle ages or even earlier, you'd have had to clear cut an entire forest to supply them all.
Paul should not be called an apostle..maybe calledhim a repented spirit..pls.the book of acts. He was not included in the assembly of those apostles.peter has the key to choose to replce judas scariot...that man his name is mathias..
Did you know the bible is a Catholic book?
All the relics of the cross we assessed and calculated in the late 19th century and found to complete about 30% of the estimated cross.
Tama ka..paul should not be considered as an apostle..may be he is a repented spirit ..nothing else..

My question is where the bones have gone from the empty ossuary which was found in Jerusalem and why the church authority is not interested in solving this issue?
Coz vatican is a great liar..
There is no proof whatsoever that the ossuary in question contained the bones of St. Peter. Simon and Jonah were very common Jewish names. Like Bill and Bob.

2 Peter 3:3-8 “First, you must understand this: In the last days people who follow their own desires will appear. These disrespectful people will ridicule God’s promise by saying, “What’s happened to his promise to return? Ever since our ancestors died, everything continues as it did from the beginning of the world.” They are deliberately ignoring one fact: Because of God’s word, heaven and earth existed a long time ago. The earth appeared out of water and was kept alive by water. Water also flooded and destroyed that world. By God’s word, the present heaven and earth are designated to be burned. They are being kept until the day ungodly people will be judged and destroyed. Dear friends, don’t ignore this fact: One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.”
Isaiah 28:22 “But as for you, don’t start mocking, or your chains will become tighter; for I have heard from the Lord of the Heavenly Armies about destruction, and it is decreed against the whole land.”
Jude 1:17-20 “Dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ said before. They said to you, “In the last times there will be people who laugh about God, following their own evil desires which are against God.” These are the people who divide you, people whose thoughts are only of this world, who do not have the Spirit. But dear friends, use your most holy faith to build yourselves up, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

None of this evidence is conclusive. Regarding the ossuary in Jerusalem inscribed with Simon son of Jonah, both of those names were very common at the time. Whether or not relics actually belong to the supposed individual, makes no difference in my opinion. Christianity is about the message and teachings of Christ, and the Bible. This is why the Vatican has no official stance on the authenticity of relics or archaeology. I do wish that they would cooperate more with archaeologists. From a historical perspective it would be interesting to see if science can prove or disprove certain relics. I suppose the church doesn't want to be involved in a negative media circus in the event that relics, including St Peters, would be declared as inauthentic.
Very interesting about the osuary in Jerusalem. SHiMoN was a common name though; but BeN YoaN would be specific. Too bad you couldn’t get more information, etc.

Love this true or not
Im not an archaelogist but is it not that to prove scientifically that the bones are St Peter’s, you have to do some DNA testing comparison to one of St Peter’s relatives, carbon-dating, etc? If not then tradition would be enough. Why would the thousands of Christians of Rome risk their live and the lives of their families for something like a figment of the imagination like the whole story of St. Peter being in Rome and dying as it was told. Even non-Christian historians like the Roman senator Tacitus confirmed this in his writing.
That would b easy if we had ossuaries of Peter's relatives or their bones
Nick Dixon A relative ancestral lineage data can be done like you do in those that send u dna testing kits even would narrow it down. But u know, religion is also politics clothed in colorful linens 😉
Church gets the money from stupid people that's why.
But they did not really found the Body of apostle Peter in ROME its fake. Because Peter is not even a Pope, its fake.
Dear Dale, You are right. In order to confirm by DNA testing that human remains were a specific person one needs to compare the remains with those of a close relative. It is my understanding that the bones were revealed to be that of a middle-aged man who had led a physically vigorous life. That describes Peter. The early Christians revered those among them who had lived holy lives and especially those who had even died for the faith. Churches were erected over their graves with the altar built directly over the burial spot. Thus began the Catholic practice of having a sacred relic from a holy person ( or in English, a Saint) placed inside the altar used at Mass. I think that what I just said would not convince an archeologist that the bones must be Peter's bones because DNA testing is impossible. Yet, the history strongly suggests that the bones very likely are his because they match the story of Peter's life and his burial and with the altar of the original St Peter's placed directly over his traditional burial spot. ( The original St Peter's was built by order of Emperor Constantine in the 300's. Twelve hundred years later the same basilica had become decrepit and even dangerous so the current church was built in the 1500's in the same place with the altar in the same spot over the traditional burial place of St Peter.) Thank you.
Keep up the good work 👌. Brilliant enlightenment. For me anyway.

Glad that the Jerusalem box was brought up. There are a number of martyrs whose relics were spirited away from the place of martyrdom to some other safe place. And as far as speculation goes it makes sense to me that he would be taken from Rome and brought home to Jerusalem.
According to scripture it makes sense that Peter never left Jerusalem!
@@rlrett1 the scriptures show that he went to Samaria and early Christian tradition has it that St Peter went to Antioch, and ordained the first Bishop there. To not have gone on missionary journeys would have been in disobedience to Christ's Great Commission. Likewise Christ propheticly in John states that he would be taken to Rome, were his epistles were pretty clearly written. Ancient Tradition states that he was martyred in Rome and there was no need for him to stay in Jerusalem, as St James was Bishop there, which is well documented.

If Peter was in Rome why doesn’t Paul mention it in his writings. He wrote of the many visitors that had come to see him. If Peter was indeed the Bishop of Rome don’t you think Paul would have mentioned it, after all Peter was one of the Apostles of Christ.
In fact Peter was rebuked by Paul in Antioch because of some of his teaching (Galatians 2:11-21). The first official Pope was in the 6th century, there were many times when there wasn’t a Pope and other times there was more than one, so much for the unbroken line of Popes. During the Great Occidental Schism there was as many as three of them who claimed to be the true Pope, perhaps the Holy Spirit couldn’t make His mind up. That is why this claim to be Christ’s Vicar on Earth is ridiculous.
