It is my understanding that there are many gnostic gospels that report many things that are different from the common gospels, this sounds like just another one. The authenticity of anything from the 5th century is always in question as any archaeologist would know and should expect. Peer review is essential.
The gospels in the Bible are written down the line by people who weren’t witnesses but people who heard the stories. Paul is credited for some books but half of those are written by someone else.

As far as the history of the four canonical documents, the earliest versions we have of them are early Middle Age copies of older documents which are now lost. The oldest gospel copies that have proven the authenticity of the writing (no significant changes or whatever) have been found on various body wrappings from that time period in fragments. This happened because the scroll parchments were used as burial wrappings. You’re also correct in questioning many of the alternative gospels outside of the canon because there were a lot of Gnostic gospels and other false writings presented as from an original Apostle in circulation as early as the 150s AD I believe.
Some of the stories from the infancy gospel of Thomas made it into the Quran. Like the story of the child Jesus fashioning sparrows out of clay and bringing them to life by making them fly away. The key will be if we ever manage to find the elusive "Q" source gospel which predates Mark by at least a few years
Gnostic gospels have been around in the 1st and 2nd century. The early church leaders that had more power, money, and influence are the ones that "won out" and comprised the bible we have today. They were no different than the Pharisees and Sadducees of the time of Christ

There were several Gnostic Gospels written in Syriac. In fact, several of them made there way into the Quran. These are fables, which were made up well after the first century by people who were Hollywoodizing popular stories and not documenting historical events. It would be like taking tales like The Hobbit or Harry Potter and trying to read history into them. When you read the New Testament gospels, you get the sense that they are describing real people and actual events. Nobody believes that Jesus, when he was a kid, killed other kids for laughing at him but the Infancy Gospel of Thomas writes about it (and the story made its way into the Quran). Nobody believes the Gnostic Gospels except those who refuse to believe in the actual risen Savior.

You know... I find it interesting that Simcha says he "doesn't want to offend anyone" but there is a clear difference in how he approaches Jewish and Christian history. In his shows he tends to accept Jewish orthodoxy and in his archeology he supports that Jewish orthodoxy. However, when it comes to Christianity he usually takes a skeptical or non-orthodox stance most of the time. It's almost like he has a copy of the Babylonian Talmud right next to him when he tries to dive into early Christian history. It's a pretty clear pattern and I really wish Simcha was more transparent about the bias before he claims that he "doesn't want to offend anyone."

It's strange that all of a sudden, in the last 40 years or so, "scholars discover" Gnosticism. It's actually a very old and well documented movement that a quarter of the New Testament was aimed at refuting; not to mention very early apologists. No it was not very well document .. various books were found in Nag Hammadi but only came to the light of day several decades later. Prior to that they’re were deemed heretical by Irenaeus and thus dangerous to possess especially during the time of Constantine.. The existence of competing texts SUPPORTS the Bible. The Bible itself continually warns us against fakes. It does not surprise those who have really read and studied the Bible when other "gospels" and spurious documents are found. Most of the extra-Biblical texts are dismissed not only for contradicting the Bible, but for being too LATE to be historical. Skeptical "experts" try to surprise us by "revealing" non-canonical texts. Knowledgeable believers already know they exist; while the uneducated and unbelievers think it's a major revelation supporting their decision to neither read the Bible nor believe it.

We were warned against it and other false gospels many times. So, Christians who know the Bible are not likely to be shaken when these alternate writings appear.

Thank you for this little morsel. I have been looking for more on the story of Joseph and Aseneth for awhile and I guess You Tube logo rhythms matched my comments up with this story. From what I’ve read, Joseph’s story was to show Gods divine purpose, and to never lose faith. In the story I know Aseneth, worshipped “Neith”, a Babylonian Goddess. Aseneth knew all kinds of things she shouldn’t have known she was from Helios I thought and Joseph thought she was disgusting because she cast spells and worshipped false Gods. He called her “filthy” even though she was royalty. When she meets Joseph she is instantly remorseful and ashamed because she actually sees a halo around him and realizes that he is one of God’s chosen ones. Any way the story goes on and on but takes a weird turn, this story is not in the Bible. The only thing the Bible says is that one of their sons is Manesseh, who worshipped false Gods too, and sacrificed one of his own sons to a demon for power almost caused his city to be destroyed. So this connection to Jesus is very confusing. I’m not buying it. Need way more information...I just cross referenced Manasseh, snd found that his father was Hezzekiah, so I’m not sure, I was trying to match lineages and correlate s time line with the book of kings but the time line seems to be conflicting, everywhere.
I too have been trying to piece together the timeline of Jesus, son of Joseph and Mary as well as the other two Jesus with their own stories that are similar but much earlier. You need to search for the truth and not believe everything you are given. Most big events in the bible are copies of previous events with a twist to fit their narrative. For Jesus to have been a Rabbi and teach in the Temple as it states in the Bible he would of had to fill certain strict criteria, he would not of been allowed to be a Rabbi or teach there unless he had at least one wife and proven himself eligible by siring children, the Temple traditions and rules wouldn't allow him to teach or be a proper Rabbi without fulfilling those criteria/rules, plus it would of made him a more influential figure during his life time, if he hadn't married or sired children he would of not been worthy of attention to the people of his day and no matter what his message was he would of been ignored and derided by people not followed as a Rabbi let alone a/the Messiah if he was without at least one wife. That isn't something that comes from a book of modern revisionist religious conspiracy theory, it is factual information that can be found by reading through Jewish historical records regarding the second Temple period, why should that be such a controversy? It is my understanding that there are many gnostic gospels that report many things that are different from the common gospels, this sounds like just another one. The authenticity of anything from the 5th century is always in question as any archaeologist would know and should expect. Peer review is essential.
The gospels in the Bible are written down the line by people who weren’t witnesses but people who heard the stories. Paul is credited for some books but half of those are written by someone else.

As far as the history of the four canonical documents, the earliest versions we have of them are early Middle Age copies of older documents which are now lost. The oldest gospel copies that have proven the authenticity of the writing (no significant changes or whatever) have been found on various body wrappings from that time period in fragments. This happened because the scroll parchments were used as burial wrappings. You’re also correct in questioning many of the alternative gospels outside of the canon because there were a lot of Gnostic gospels and other false writings presented as from an original Apostle in circulation as early as the 150s AD I believe.
Some of the stories from the infancy gospel of Thomas made it into the Quran. Like the story of the child Jesus fashioning sparrows out of clay and bringing them to life by making them fly away. The key will be if we ever manage to find the elusive "Q" source gospel which predates Mark by at least a few years
Gnostic gospels have been around in the 1st and 2nd century. The early church leaders that had more power, money, and influence are the ones that "won out" and comprised the bible we have today. They were no different than the Pharisees and Sadducees of the time of Christ

There were several Gnostic Gospels written in Syriac. In fact, several of them made there way into the Quran. These are fables, which were made up well after the first century by people who were Hollywoodizing popular stories and not documenting historical events. It would be like taking tales like The Hobbit or Harry Potter and trying to read history into them. When you read the New Testament gospels, you get the sense that they are describing real people and actual events. Nobody believes that Jesus, when he was a kid, killed other kids for laughing at him but the Infancy Gospel of Thomas writes about it (and the story made its way into the Quran). Nobody believes the Gnostic Gospels except those who refuse to believe in the actual risen Savior.
I'm not sure if I would include the gospel of Mary Magdalene in that. It seems more in line with the gospel of Luke than many would like to admit.

You know... I find it interesting that Simcha says he "doesn't want to offend anyone" but there is a clear difference in how he approaches Jewish and Christian history. In his shows he tends to accept Jewish orthodoxy and in his archeology he supports that Jewish orthodoxy. However, when it comes to Christianity he usually takes a skeptical or non-orthodox stance most of the time. It's almost like he has a copy of the Babylonian Talmud right next to him when he tries to dive into early Christian history. It's a pretty clear pattern and I really wish Simcha was more transparent about the bias before he claims that he "doesn't want to offend anyone."
Jezeusian mythology often calls for offenders of their faith to be burnt alive or things like that, Jews go cautiously when approaching blasphemy, being kicked out of so many countries for pointing out the discrepancies and misappropriations, we've learned to be wary but in the modern era of civilized man truth comes forced for some who are recalcitrant to give up stubborn believed tales.

As for the bible not being written while Lord Jesus was alive being a fact goes, I find that far fetched. Even in today's world some people write for years and then publish. The "Church" was created over 300 years after the purported events surrounding the death of Yeshua. And the story that they agreed on had already been part of every ancient myth that came before. It's a beautiful, brilliant story that very effectively hides the truth of Yeshua's life and message. I believe that continuing to seek the truth is our calling in life. The truth we do know is that Yeshua was a Jewish Rabbi, therefore according to the laws of his time, he was most likely married because it would have been scandalous were he not. His life from aged twelve to age thirty, the time when he would have been betrothed and married, is conveniently omitted from the church's narrative because it doesn't fit the myth they agreed upon.

Thank you for this little morsel. I have been looking for more on the story of Joseph and Aseneth for awhile and I guess You Tube logo rhythms matched my comments up with this story. From what I’ve read, Joseph’s story was to show Gods divine purpose, and to never lose faith. In the story I know Aseneth, worshipped “Neith”, a Babylonian Goddess. Aseneth knew all kinds of things she shouldn’t have known she was from Helios I thought and Joseph thought she was disgusting because she cast spells and worshipped false Gods. He called her “filthy” even though she was royalty. When she meets Joseph she is instantly remorseful and ashamed because she actually sees a halo around him and realizes that he is one of God’s chosen ones. Any way the story goes on and on but takes a weird turn, this story is not in the Bible. The only thing the Bible says is that one of their sons is Manesseh, who worshipped false Gods too, and sacrificed one of his own sons to a demon for power almost caused his city to be destroyed. So this connection to Jesus is very confusing. I’m not buying it. Need way more information...I just cross referenced Manasseh, snd found that his father was Hezzekiah, so I’m not sure, I was trying to match lineages and correlate s time line with the book of kings but the time line seems to be conflicting, everywhere.
I too have been trying to piece together the timeline of Jesus, son of Joseph and Mary as well as the other two Jesus with their own stories that are similar but much earlier. And the gospel of St. Thomas.

You need to search for the truth and not believe everything you are given. Most big events in the bible are copies of previous events with a twist to fit their narrative. The fact is that the ancient gods were more believable than present if you trust your mind to distinguish the truth and recognize possible misinterpretations.

For Jesus to have been a Rabbi and teach in the Temple as it states in the Bible he would of had to fill certain strict criteria, he would not of been allowed to be a Rabbi or teach there unless he had at least one wife and proven himself eligible by siring children, the Temple traditions and rules wouldn't allow him to teach or be a proper Rabbi without fulfilling those criteria/rules, plus it would of made him a more influential figure during his life time, if he hadn't married or sired children he would of not been worthy of attention to the people of his day and no matter what his message was he would of been ignored and derided by people not followed as a Rabbi let alone a/the Messiah if he was without at least one wife.
That isn't something that comes from a book of modern revisionist religious conspiracy theory, it is factual information that can be found by reading through Jewish historical records regarding the second Temple period, why should that be such a controversy?
Surely the idea of Jesus having a wife makes him all that more accessible and closer to what God intended for the Human race and someone everyone can relate to?

Surely, they would have done so!
