JT here and it's another fine day out here in SW Oklahoma! If you want to really make the Rear of your Toyota Rav4 Prime stand out, then this upgrade is it. One of my subscribers asked me about it and unfortunately, I've installed this before even thinking about making videos. But at least I can hopefully pass on some tips that some of you good people can use when you install this aftermarket Rear Dynamic LED Taillight, rear center trim brake lights or however you want to call it.
I installed this on my 2021 Toyota Rav4 Prime SE. I'm pretty sure it will work on most other RAV4s out there. Just look at the center trim and you should be able to tell. But I will tell you, they are quite nice, gives it a more refined look and it does turn people's heads when they see it in action.
As far as where you purchase this? There's plenty out there, especially on eBay where I got mine. Got a couple of links below for your convenience. Could not find any on Amazon. Did find some on Aliexpress. That's if you want to buy overseas. I don't sponsor any of them. Just checkout the feedback on the seller to put you at ease. But the least expensive is sold on eBay for $135 with free shipping.

10mm Socket and wrench
Offset or Wobble Extension
Plastic pry tool
Electrical tape or liquid tape
Any type of soap
Zip Ties

Thanks DMM...the variation? Is it the one with just the end taillights? That's what I'm guessing...I'm trying to find some side mounted cameras...so I can record when the SNOWS hits here in OKIE-LAND.
@@jt2quick It is essentially the same rear animated light trim piece. But the lighting LED part extends a little further at each end by a couple more inches or so. Basically the full length of the original trim. And the animated sequence for turning is different. Instead of a solid line of LEDs that stretches from the center to the edge and disappears with each blink, it is a light chasing two or three LEDs that races from the center to the edge and repeats with each blink. The stop and DRL function is the same though.
I also did not remove the Toyota badge from the original trim to place on the new one. (Started to try but feared damaging the original trim or the badge because it was really stuck on there.) Instead bought a new badge that had dual mode backlit lighting. Lights blue normally. Turns red with the brake.
LOL, I really have to get the lead out and make a video of my mods. Unfortunately I never recorded my work putting them in. Mainly because I was focused on trying to figure things out as i went a long. Got ideas from watching videos like yours and others. I will try to do a video this week.

I think I know the one you are referring to. It is sequential like the DRL and turn signals I have on the front of my Rav4 Prime. But I bet it does look cool. Take care...

Like your install,Whats the hyper flashing as soon as you press the brake .Is there a relay required for that or is that normal operation.Thanks and keep the video's coming.
Thanks Rick. The hyper flashing is part of it. Just not sure if it's the RAV4 itself or built into the Rear Center Trim I purchased. I'm thinking it's more of the Prime itself. Pretty cool looking though, isn't it? And NO... there is and didn't install any type of relay to make that happen. Normal operation and really a nice change to the basic look of the vehicle. Howdy... Well..I myself have never tried that. But thinking about it now, I would have to say YES. So follow this line of thought. It is is like any light. Meaning it needs power. So by attaching it or connecting it to the actual rear electrical brake system, it is thus controlled as you either push on the brake pedal. So with that in mind, and you just want to have it come on whenever the Head lights itself come on, then you generally just have to FIND the actual wires that goes to the headlights itself, tap into it or make your connections to it run the wires along side, under or better yet....FIND the fuse relay for the Headlights, (get one of those TAP Fuses) so that you can split the power from the headlights to feed power to the rear trim. That's alot of splicing and dicing. Just be mindful that you do not inadvertently cut the wrong wires. Here's a quick suggestion. Run a simple 6feet or so of maybe 16-14AWG electrical wire. Splice the ends, Connect it to one of the small 5-10 watt hot wires in your accessory fuse box, even if it's just a hot open fuse from another car (you're just trying to provide the necessary power. Then with either an alligator clip or even just the end of the other stripped wire, prod it into the Trim center piece connector you bought. Normal wiring is usually RED for positive, but never know these days unless you check it out. See with one will "LIGHT UP" the TRIM. From there, you're half way done as you know now.... WHERE the exact wire is on that TRIM..that needs to be provided with power, so now...you just find the same line as the Headlights and connect it to that wire. NOW..this is Very Important. remember.. Power requirements for headlights are much, much more thatn power requirements for a Rear Trim LIGHT.. so DO NOT directly just HOOK it up to that headlights...that's why you generally want to find the "FUSE" that is for those headlights and tap into that.
With that said, keep in mind, I am not a certified electrician, or even smart enough to try to tamper with something that you want to do, so...I'm just thinking out loud here as to what I.... would do. If you want to see, what MIGHT HAPPEN....just buy a small led that is about the same in those Trim consoles for the Rear Brake Lamp. Attached it to a 12V battery or even the wiring to your headlights on your vehicle or any vehicle for that matter... and SEE...what will happen. The worst thing is that it might blow up and you lost $1 trying it out. If it doesn't blow up or get fried, at least you know, it might be possible to just hook it up... directly . But I doubt it... Either way...good luck to you buddy.

Hallo! Is it possible the led tail light is only switch on or of, together with the standard tail light? Not running LED. No running flash light or something similar. Than, this product will be great for my brandnew RAV VIP 2023.
Hey Christian....apologies for the late reply. I've never tried to isolate it myself as you mentioned, having the tail light only switch on and off because of the way it is wired to the turn signals. My only suggestion is you purchase something like the two links below. Like one solid strip that you can turn on or off. Good luck to ya, buddy.

I love this but I just know it would cause my vehicle to fail inspection. Virginia does not take kindly to aftermarket light accesories at all. Maybe id look to find a way to install a kill switch on just the accessory light or soemthing

@@jt2quick on my car, they failed me at the inspection because I had aftermarket, but professionally installed by a nissan dealership , LED headlights. I had to put the halogens back in just for the inspection.
@@highbrassrule Dang dude...now that is just not right... because there's just so many ways to "Enhance" the look of this PRIME. I mean it's like makeup. I can see if your vehicle looked like something out of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome or something that could hurt someone. But cosmetics? Just unreal.
Hello I recently bought the tail light but I wanted to know how do I get the emblem in the center do I need to buy one or can I cut around the middle so it can show ?
Hey Buddy, when i tried that, mine cracked. So all I did was just buy like some flexible but strong acrylic clear type sheet from Hobby Lobby and I cut that to size and painted it with as close to blue as possible. You can probably use some plastic type. Even just a 1/8 thick piece of wood cut to oblong size and then waterproof it, but that's like a last resort. From a distance you can't really tell that it is not the original emblem. I was even going to paint mine Cherry Red at one point, until my commander in chief talked me out of it. I did end up purchasing online the Toyota Chrome Emblem though. It was pretty cheap on eBay. Let me know how yours end up. take care.
what year is your prime and will this work for the 2023 model?
Hello. My Prime is 2021. And will it work on a 2023? I am 95% sure it will. Body trims across the board seems pretty similar. Just tech upgrades and stuff for later years. My suggestion is.. take off the rear console. If it looks let much the same as you see on mine.... then it's 100% sure it will work on your 2023 Prime. Take care and stay safe.

I bought the upper lights. The left and right. Not the center. They don't work at all. Any suggestions???
Hey buddy, I would be guessing right at this moment as I am not really sure what you mean by Left and Right. Are you referring to the ones right agove the Rav4 Prime and SE AWD emblems? Or are you referring to the ones on the very top left and right that runs vertical as I have seen others replaced those? Maybe if you can provide a link to the exact Lights that you purchased, so that I can actually see what lights you installed and can do my best to help you. Thanks.
@jt2quick I figured it out. It's the ones that go vertical up and down. One for the left side and one for the right side. LED DYNAMIC LIGHT'S. ON EACH SIDE OF THE GLASS . The harness connects to plug on the side behind the panels, left/ right. I had it hooked to the hatch lights and got nothing. I was puzzled. Then tried that, and boom!

Hey John. Depending on your comfort level you can get these either from Amazon, Ebay or even AliExpress. UA-cam for some reason, takes out "External Links" on post...but just go to the Ebay site and type in "Toyota Rav4 Led Tail lights". On Amazon type in "Toyota Rav4 Dynamic Animation Breathing DRL".... yeah I know..strange..but that's how it pops up. Aliexpress... Toyota Rav4 trunk light rear bumper LED DRL. Price from $135 all the way up to $646.94 (yeah...that's crazy right there). I got mine on Ebay. Go Amazon, in case you change your mind as the return policy is more lax. And yes..ALL of them are from China...so don't the descriptions fool you. @max lenyard hey Max. Since it is a plug and use accessory. With various sellers and.. mass produced, and assuming that your brake lights were good to go before the install and there were no wires.... that needed to be spliced like when I installed my mic tuning drl in my other video......I can only say that the one you got.... is defective. Did you get out on ebay or aliexpress?
