    I ordered a different set of fog lights than you did, from Ebay and after installing them I had the unfortunate realization that the button wouldn't work. It would work installed in the button slot, but when I put the plastic back in place it seemed to put pressure on it and the button wouldn't work. I ordered other buttons from Amazon, and Ebay but they didn't work as they were wired differently. I ordered the one you have linked here hoping that it would work as it doesn't have the light on it, so it's simpler. And it worked and I have like you also found that it works better than the original switch that came from the kit. It has a decent "click" to it. So thanks for adding your info in the button, it really helped me. : )

      Glad it was helpful! I did see one video where he pushed the wire out from the inside, but I figured it was much to difficult to then pull on it from the engine side. I saw someone else do it this way and figured it was much easier. Just be sure to not make the hole through the rubber grommet too big, otherwise it might give you a leak of outside air coming in. Not likely but just to be safe...

    Do you have to remove rhe fender flare to pull the wheel well liner? I'm thinking if so ill maybe try ro go from the underside. I have long arms and managed to install my 4runners that way. I dont need the firewall access as ill be using a remote wireless switch

      You mean the plastic trim around the edge of the fender wheel well? Yes, I had to take that off to separate the well liner but that was pretty easy - I think 2 or 3 screws and snaps.

  • @CC-hs7st

    • @PhilsDIY
      @PhilsDIY  6 місяців тому

      If you mean the plastic trim, yes, you should take it off in order to get the well lining off enough to access the space behind the bumper where the light needs to go. If you don't take off the trim, you can't get the lining out of the way.

      @PhilsDIY  3 роки тому +1

      Hi David, Thanks for watching! I hadn't thought about that - but I'd be happy to clarify any part of the wiring that isn't clear. Each different manufacturer will have slightly different wiring instructions - or none at all - or, as was my case, just a diagram that really didn't help much. Most will have at least 1) battery, 2) ground, 3) accessory (switched 12V). My video does show where I tapped into the switched and unswitched 12V, but remember this was in my Prime SE. I don't know if your hybrid LE will have the same layout of fuses and relays in the box.

      @@PhilsDIYThanks for the reply!
      Yeah that's understandable.
      My kit seems almost the same as yours. I only have a flimsy black and red lead though (with the relay and switch).
      How did you identify the correct places to wire it to? Just the diagram or did you have to use a multimeter? I can't find too many tutorials on wiring for hybrids/ev's.
      ( Sorry, it's my first time wiring something to a fuse panel/junction box like this. I've previously installed light bars, but they went directly to the battery )

    • @PhilsDIY
      @PhilsDIY  3 роки тому +3

      @@inquisitivecoffee Yes, a multimeter is a must. For the battery power, I just deduced that it must be because a) there's a 50A fuse right next to the spot, and it's also next to the large Charging plate that they built in for attaching a battery charger in case your 12V needs a charge. I then checked with the multimeter the voltage on the one free spade terminal with the car power off, and it had 12V so I concluded I could use that. For the switched 12V I looked at all the wiring harnesses and picked a thicker red wire and tested that voltage and found that it was switched off with the power off, and on with the acc or main power on. So I use that. Hope this helps.

      Yes, you can tap power from the fuse box in the driver side below the steering wheel. If you take a look at my video on the Wolfbox mirror dash cam, at around the 15:20 mark, I start pointing out the available blank fuse slots. For installing the fog lights though, you will still need to install the relay, and draw the main power from the fuse box under the hood in the engine compartment.

      I guess that depends on what you want to connect there. I don't know what you're trying to do, so I'm not comfortable directing you to a particular connection point. But generally if you're looking to draw more than about 5 amps, you probably should go to the main fuse block either in the engine compartment, or in the trunk next to the 12V battery. Your comment is in the fog light video, and if you're trying to install fog lights, you definitely need to do your wiring in the engine compartment, including using the relay that would have come with the kit.

    • @PhilsDIY
      @PhilsDIY  2 роки тому

      Hi Leonardo, I think if your switch is staying lit, you don't have the ACC wire connected to a switched 12V source. In mine I think it was the yellow wire, labeled "ignition". I have that connected to a red wire that goes into the fuse box under the hood. In the video I tap this into a wire but later I found this was wrong, and moved it to the fuse that's labeled "Washer" (see my notes in the Description above). Check your wire connections and let me know if this helps. Good luck!

  • @frankantonopoulos7528
    @frankantonopoulos7528 3 роки тому +2

    Hi Phil, with the wire harness that you tap into for accessory power do you know what it normally controls? My fog light kit only had a red power, and black ground. I did tap into the same red wire in the video. I was working in my garage and noticed the lights came on sporadically, maybe part of a battery cooling fan or something? Do you also notice the lights coming on and off when the car is off? This would assume you left the fog lights switch on before turning the car off.

    • @PhilsDIY
      @PhilsDIY  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Frank, Now that you mention it, yes, I did notice that phenomenon. I didn't have time to dig into it but I suspect you're right. As you said, I make sure to not leave the switch on when I shut down the car. I really should find a better ACC circuit to tap into. Maybe I'll do that and post an update. Great catch!

      Followed your lead - but decided to go with the "Washer" fuse instead of "INJ". The only thing I can think of that starts with "INJ" is the injection system for the engine. I figure if my fog light connection is going to mess something up, better to do it on a non-critical function like the windshield washer pump (I assume) than something to do with the engine! Bob- Yes, mine stays on if the switch is on. I think to turn them off if high beams are turned on would take a relay that interrupts the fog light control line. This would take a SPDT relay to be normally closed, and when the high beam line energizes that relay, it goes into the open position so long as the high beam stays on. Once it turns off, the relay goes back to the closed position and fog lights come back on. Relatively simple mod - just need to tap the high beam supply line. Hmmm. Also list of things you have removed to reduce weight. Thanks.

      I removed the spare tire, car jack and the 32 pound lead acid battery.
      The Ohmmu battery are specificly designed for Teslas but it will work on most cars.

    That is soooo coool, you can now ride on fogs with everyone noticing (getting blinded by your greatness that is) that you own a RAV4, what a playa!

    Good but you don't show the way to connect all wires on the video that's is very important

    • @PhilsDIY
      @PhilsDIY  2 роки тому

      I'm pretty sure i did... there's a ground, always on 12V, switched 12V, and the wires that go inside and has the plug for the switch. The video covers all of these. I changed the fuse tap location for the switched 12V, and that's in the description of the video.

    The official Toyota LED fog light includes the entire assembly and not just a bulb. Instead of all this, just get a model that includes fog lights and convert to LED.

      I couldn't find any Toyota OEM fog lights. Can you post a link here? Thanks!

    Great Effort but nowhere close to providing enough information to really be helpful.

      $40k is cheap considering I paid 54k for my 2021 Rav4 Edge (trail/adventure) in Australia.
