@@Chloedasher It shouldn't be that hard if you make it be an Alyx mod. The tools are out there, the only issue is that you will have to redo map lighting since as seen with the fan-made rtx Half Life 2 mods, it screws shit up.
Regarding the DLCs thing near the beginning, Peer Review actually was a separate (but still free) download on Xbox 360 and PS3. Left 4 Dead also had a similar case where a bunch of built-in updates that it got on PC ended up being released as standalone (and this time paid) DLCs on consoles because of weird policies they apparently had at the time. Also hi I was Ossy's coop partner in this video.
This is actually true; it's also why The Orange Box was only updated once or twice. IIRC developers got a limited number of free updates and then had to pay Microsoft to update the game more. Not sure about PS3 though.
This feels like a VR expansion pack, what with the focus being more on manipulation objects than flinging yourself through motion sickness inducing portals. Would love to play it in VR myself. Wonder if there's any lovely people way smarter than I am who can make that happen somehow.
This might be interesting to you - I am actually planning on a video on the beta content of the Sixense DLCs, and there seems to be remnants of a scrapped VR implementation in the Perceptual Pack. It was definitely something that the developers themselves had legitimately considered, but it fell through, presumably because the Sixense DLCs were seen as a failing gimmick.
We can make it be a VR game if we make it be an Alyx mod. It is pretty simple, only issue is just that lighting needs to be redone for it because Source 2 and have some map tweaks. I think someone already ported a portal gun to Alyx, so that step is good to go.
had no idea there was this much content crammed into these dlcs!!! i distinctly remember watching a 480p scalable cube video back in 2013 and it being etched directly into my small brain ever since. love your videos man i'm looking forward to seeing the beta content 😈
I like how motion controls fell out of fashion then wound up being wildly successful with VR and such. Edit: note on the video quality, it's not to say it's bad though. The speaking is rushed sounding, and fairly hard to understand as words stumble. Multiple takes ontop of speaking more steadily could help. It's an interesting topic though.
I had portal 2 for the ps3 and always remember seeing an option for Sixense dlc. But never having anything to play it with, so I was always curious what it was like. I had just forgotten about it for years.
Yeah, I remember the Sixense logo whenever I start Portal 2. I thought it was something to do with the PS3's dualshock controller motion controls. Never knew they made a whole Wii like peripherial and new levels for this stuff...
NGL, I wish we could have gotten the portal surfing mechanic in regular Portal 2, it would have saved me so much time trying to reposition a portal I placed (not to mention cube rotation would have been a godsend for several laser levels, precision is such a pain in them)
So that's what that weird DLC was. I remember the name Sixsense from seeing it on Steam and I remember watching a trailer that showed cubes being manipulated but I didn't know the two were related, I was convinced the cube manipulation was a cut feature. Very informative video.
ive been in love with portal since i was a kid, learning about it in 2012. I can't believe after so many years im still learning new things about it and loving it even more
Never heard of the Hydra before but with VR taking off, something like it could work well as a cheaper alternative. No immersive headset, but you do get the advanced motion controls.
Agreed! I could see something like this making VR games much more accessible in general. Sure, it might not be quite as immersive, but as an example, you could hop on a social VR game with your friends and be able to move your arms around just like everybody else while still being in desktop mode. Not only would it be quite a bit cheaper than a proper headset, but I could see it being very useful for those prone to motion sickness that have a hard time using VR.
You know, if some eterpeneuring modder made VR mod of Portal 2 these levels would work quite well given how motioncontrols are integral to VR experience
Portal 2 is literally the perfect game for this type of controls . Now I actually wonder . Would Valve ever try to give us Portal Rat Man on VR :> ? . reusing same mechanics of the motion controls but also giving you a physical body . some of Bonework elements can be implemented for puzzle solving (or even using some of fstop mechanics) . The fact we did not get a new Portal game on VR shock me until this day . *yes i know may getting inside portals can make you sick . but come on . we need to be more experimental .
A Ratman game would be amazing, obviously they could give him the portal gun, but they could also do so much more, imagine if they gave Rattman a weapon wheel of Aperture gadgets, like the paint gun from Aperture Tag or the camera from F-stop, that'd be amazing even if it's not exactly portal, but heck they could give you those and the portal gun though it'd probably be a little complicated especially for new players who haven't already usdd the portal gun through the 2 games, but it'd be awesome for us fans who want a bigger, even better Portal game

Really cool Video! As others have commented, I can distinctly remember seeing a video of a scalable cube and moving portals a la portal surfing and watching this unlocked that memory. Been binging all the content on your channel and love it. Keep it up!
Sixense are surprisingly good source modders, the custom particle effects for the grabbing things are not only functional but really cool looking and the little bits of polish like buttons turning orange when a cube is being held over them are exactly the kind of extra touches id expect from valve themselves. Also absolutely horrible that you did not include the wonderful noises that the scalable cube makes

Huh, funny, weeks ago a cousin of mine gave me his PS Move and looking for games that use them on PS3 I saw that Portal 2 had it, and wow, I have Portal 2. I thought I was missing out on more content as I was a bit disappointed that there were so few levels in the tutorial and advanced trials but I see that's about it. As a fun fact, you can play the normal campaign and the co-op campaign with the motion controls, in co-op one can be with the motion control and another with a normal DualShock (I know this because I play the co-op campaign locally with a friend), it is really fun to play Portal with motion controllers, even if you can't use the extra features.
Oh wow, I always wanted to see how this worked out! Shame it was a dead end. I reckon I'd also have been pissed to buy that expensive controller and only get a few hours extra content. Also, I remember Half-Life 2 had compatibility for some very weird controller that let you feel the textures of what you pick up or something, so if you picked up a wooden crate, you could feel wood.
This would inevitably lead to... what happens when you grab boobs in game? Feel boobs? Hence, I don't think this ever actually existed... (((but it SHOULD!!))) 🤩🤯
Since Portal 1 and 2 are coming to or have already came to switch I'm curious if those joycons could be used for this? I get that they'd have to go through licensing but still curious.
We can't the gyros are not well designed for this task, so you could be holding your cons perfectly straight, but it thinks you are holding them upside down pointing NW
That would be amazing, but considering they already gave us the two games, with the still alive dlc for Portal 1 for only $20 I doubt they would have even considered re-adding the sixense levels and making them work on the switch even if they could, but I don't think so since the Joy-cons aren't exactly wiimotes, but I could definitely imagine someone making this possible if someone made a mod on PC that re-adds the levels and makes a wii-mote connected to ur PC work with the game, but that'd be really complicated even just re-adding the levels, let alone programming the controls around the motion controls of the wii-mote, but I think it could potentially be done with it if someone tried, but who knows, I'm sure a VR controller could do the job if the wii-mote isn't advanced enough though, but like I said I doubt anyone will ever go through the effort to do that.
huh... magnetic absolute position IMUs... I wonder if there could be a VR implementation, like for Slime VR, but with a magnetic base station to prevent drift...
never understood why Valve didn't patch in the sixsense stuff into the index controllers.. you could basically just, y'know, not use the VR headset but the two joysticks only. this is something i never understood! why can't we give functionality to the VR controllers beyond being just VR controllers? make em act as lightguns or something, you've got two sensors, i'm sure you could specify the size and shape of your monitor and everything for it to understand where you're aiming, or use calculations and calibrations to lock the controllers "in place". there's so much possibilities. i remember using my index knuckles as a gyro wheel when playing Forza Horizon 4 using a hacked wiimote program and that was amazing, so why no further uses?
I’ve had similar thoughts about this too. Why limit VR controllers to just VR itself, when new game ideas can be explored that weren’t thought of before because of the limits of traditional game controllers. They are the next step in motion controls after the Wii and Joycons, considering they can 1)track space in real-time three dimensions and instead of gyro which is fixed in one position and 2) are more pinpoint accurate and less susceptible to having to recalibrate, which is crucial to 1:1 motion. As a switch owner, it frustrates me that not enough game developers are being imaginative with the Joycon’s unique features. Even if they can’t track in 3d space like VR controllers can, the fact that they have gyro functionality and are separate from each other still offers more opportunities to make creative gameplay mechanics that a Pro controller can’t, like the physics-based puzzles as seen in the video above. You can still grab and tilt objects by tilting the joycons. There can be workarounds. Or hell, dual wielding pistols with the joycons, but each one actually fires in different directions depending where you’re point each controller. I’ve wanted a game like that so badly. But my guesses are, with VR becoming the next big thing (which I’m not complaining, since it’s what lots of people dreamed of back then and it’s finally being refined. And I own a quest 2), developers probably don’t want to take away VR’s thunder if they do make games with VR controllers in non-VR titles, fear they are risky projects that people won’t be interested in, or are just plain unimaginative. Regular mouse and keyboard and gamepads are fine, but what if I want to aim using motion. It’s much more immersive and natural, and personally, more fun and accurate than aiming with old analog right stick. We want options for different play-styles. If both of those methods offer gameplay that work seamlessly to their respective games and audiences, why can’t the same be said for motion controls?
i bought a steam account with this game on it, it wasnt supposed to have anything ont it besides a few cs hours, i didnt know what it was until i did a lot of research, i was surprised i have such a rare game on this account
its a shame that the sixense controllers weren't more commonplace for most gamers, especially when it comes to this game. some of the things you can do with this feature are genuinely interesting, and if it got more support, would make for some really intricate puzzle designs.
Free aiming like Metroid prime other Wii games is different from how motion controls work in games like Splatoon 2 or any game on the PC with the steam controller. The closest thing I found is a game called Arma because reasons. I want to say Alan Wake American nightmare had that too but I could be wrong.
i remember the sixense pack, back when i was like 5 or something i thought it was normal portl 2, so i logged onto my sisters steam account and got it, i bet she still has it lol.
Been wanting to play this, I even got it set up with the driver that lets you play it with steam VR controllers, but it won't let me move with my Vive wands.
ive had the perceptual pack for literally forever and i always thought it was some old broken mod for portal 2 like stories mel and came to terms with the fact i wouldn't be able to play it, its still in my steam library (although i never plan on actually playing it since buying a razer hydra just to play a portal 2 dlc doesnt make sense to me)
i remember watching the trailer for portal 2 in motion on my ps3 and really wanted to do it, but i couldn't (and still can't) because i don't own ps3 move controllers. maybe sometime i'll buy some on ebay and try it out, since i still own the ps3 and all the games for it.
@@poyrikkanal I don’t like Nintendo as much as the next guy, but from what I recall Nintendo has never really try and stop/limit devs from using their tech that they provide in their controllers on their system. It would be weird to do so as a company, especially one that likes its unique input methods. I was just curious if the joy-cons could be capable enough for these packs to be implemented in the recent portal ports, not if Nintendo would allow it (which again wouldn’t make sense for them not too, as it will most likely result in more sales since it’ll make not-so-common content more easily accessible to people).
I'm listening to this man talk about the Perceptual Pack and calling the Senz3D camera an offbrand Kinect whilst a fucking actual Xbox 360 Kinect is sitting right in front of my computer monitor and staring me directly in the face, so now I'm wondering if its possible to somehow use it as a replacement in the same way that it was possible to get VR controllers working in place of the Hydra

(((but it SHOULD!!))) 🤩🤯
Dragging portals with the Portal gun is such a cool idea
Since Portal 1 and 2 are coming to or have already came to switch I'm curious if those joycons could be used for this? I get that they'd have to go through licensing but still curious.
Maybe with hacking, it would be hard
I wanted to keep watching but I needed to really concentrate on what you were saying that I had to give up
"Forgotten" you say? Hell nah mate, I've thinking (and wanting to play!) about this set of DLC since for ever!
The build quality of the Razer Hydra did not match the high price; but other than that, for me the Hydra is the definitive way of playing Portal 2.
i remember seeing this trailer on my PS3
18:09 had me cracking up
huh... magnetic absolute position IMUs...
I wonder if there could be a VR implementation, like for Slime VR, but with a magnetic base station to prevent drift...
Man Valve is such a fucking icerberg its so insane
never understood why Valve didn't patch in the sixsense stuff into the index controllers.. you could basically just, y'know, not use the VR headset but the two joysticks only. this is something i never understood! why can't we give functionality to the VR controllers beyond being just VR controllers? make em act as lightguns or something, you've got two sensors, i'm sure you could specify the size and shape of your monitor and everything for it to understand where you're aiming, or use calculations and calibrations to lock the controllers "in place". there's so much possibilities. i remember using my index knuckles as a gyro wheel when playing Forza Horizon 4 using a hacked wiimote program and that was amazing, so why no further uses?
Honestly this would be amazing in vr having 2 separate guns, the stretching mechanics
Man Id love to try out the first one at some point.
Portal 2 VR with this content when!?
I would have loved to see them play with lasers
WHY COULDN'T THEY PUT THIS ON SWITCHHH
Because it was probably meant as a comparison to the steam deck, which doesnt have motion controls?!
It used a camera which the switch doesn't have
@@cookiecreeperplayz They could've just ported it over like they did with the PS3
@@waldemaar2076 The ps3 has a camera, the switch doesn't...
@@cookiecreeperplayz The switch has motion controls they could've just ported it over to the motion controls
"Shoot Orange!"
"YEEAAAAAAAAAA-"
19:04 THIS HAPPINESS IN HIS VOICE, LMAO
I actually have this in my library lol, i guess i got it when i reedeemed my Portal 2 code from Ps3 box release of the game
that motion controller looks like... something...
Can’t wait for a challenge run where someone plays through portal 2 sixense with one controller up their ass and the other in their vag
This is SO FUCKING COOL!
I really wanna try this now.
Free aiming like Metroid prime other Wii games is different from how motion controls work in games like Splatoon 2 or any game on the PC with the steam controller.
The closest thing I found is a game called Arma because reasons. I want to say Alan Wake American nightmare had that too but I could be wrong.
Duuude, just learned about this today. Joke's on me, there are no time machines, I would've gone crazy as a kid, if I had gotten my hands on this
Interesting looks like they took inspiration from Metroid prime 3s control system
A nice port for VR could be nice for this dlc
i remember the sixense pack, back when i was like 5 or something i thought it was normal portl 2, so i logged onto my sisters steam account and got it, i bet she still has it lol.
Been wanting to play this, I even got it set up with the driver that lets you play it with steam VR controllers, but it won't let me move with my Vive wands.
I'm realizing the sixth sense was a precursor to VR controllers. Cool idea but would just work way better in VR.
Oh man, I sure do like portal 2 & the curse of the Waggle
ive had the perceptual pack for literally forever and i always thought it was some old broken mod for portal 2 like stories mel and came to terms with the fact i wouldn't be able to play it, its still in my steam library (although i never plan on actually playing it since buying a razer hydra just to play a portal 2 dlc doesnt make sense to me)
why do I suddenly want VR TF2 now
19:35 looks like it would be better suited in a light-gun title
19:04 Holy crap I laughed so hard
2:10 ayo the Index and Deck are great though.
hell yeah
I wish both the Sixense Motion Pack and Perceptual Pack would be brought back, along with the Educational version, all in one package.
21:00 My theory is because they want to port this DLC to the Nintendo Switch version, but only if people are BEGGING for it.
i remember watching the trailer for portal 2 in motion on my ps3 and really wanted to do it, but i couldn't (and still can't) because i don't own ps3 move controllers. maybe sometime i'll buy some on ebay and try it out, since i still own the ps3 and all the games for it.
it takes a minute for my brain to register that this is english, and to adapt to understanding it
with that vorpx thing you could probably do some vr stuff
Huh, an interesting machanic for portal, could be a good idea a full game or something.
I want to see remakes for VR gameplay!
WOOOOO, BOWLING BABY!!! WOOO-
A little thing I'd like to add is the Companion Collection has motion controls (Although, very buggy considering this is nintendo)
I’m curious if this pack(s) would’ve worked on switch with its joy-cons.
No because it’s owned by Nintendo they will never do shit that players like
@@poyrikkanal I don’t like Nintendo as much as the next guy, but from what I recall Nintendo has never really try and stop/limit devs from using their tech that they provide in their controllers on their system.
I played it before the video was released but i stopped playing it because I didn't have the Sixsense controls
alright getting out my valve index controllers right now thank you for this vid
Razer should develop a vr competitor with the hydra.
if someone could somehow port source/portal 2 to the wii u this would be fire with 2 wiimotes/wiimote and nunchuck
I'm exited to see the Beta Content dude
I'm listening to this man talk about the Perceptual Pack and calling the Senz3D camera an offbrand Kinect whilst a fucking actual Xbox 360 Kinect is sitting right in front of my computer monitor and staring me directly in the face, so now I'm wondering if its possible to somehow use it as a replacement in the same way that it was possible to get VR controllers working in place of the Hydra
the razor hydra controller looks incredibly phallic....
I remember seeing Portal 2 in Motion trailer on PS3, and it’s different compared to the PC Version. However, I thought it looked nice to play with motion controls.
Edit: it got delisted on Steam. What a shame you did this to us…
I remember that DLC and I always tried to find a play through of it ever sense my PS3 was destroyed in a flood.
i have portal 2 on ps3 but only ever got to play some of the first tutorial of the in motion pack because my ps move is broken lmao (it registers T as always held)
if a portal vr comes out THIS IS WHAT IT NEEDS IN IT.
but all i can do is wish when it comes to the disappoi.... i mean val.... money.
19:04 Guys, something is wrong with my controller
i was just thinking hey i havent seen anything about the sixense pack in a while I wonder where that was Then this was on my feed wtf
The portal companion collection on Nintendo switch has motion controls
