- Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, first unveiled Salto’s high-flying capabilities in 2016. Now, they’ve equipped the robot with a slew of new skills, giving it the ability to bounce in place like a pogo stick and jump through obstacle courses like an agility dog. Salto can even take short jaunts around campus, powered by a radio controller.

Important R&D next-steps:
1. Add googly eyes
2. Trigger various highpitched "Wheee" / "Wooohoo" / "Yipeee" sounds on 1 in (n) jumps
3. Make nine more and have them follow you everywhere...
4. profit

That's a perfect recipe... For going insane lol 😂👌
1.2 make a pixar lamp chassis
Students: Aw soo cute!
US military: Can it hold a minigun?
No but it could hold a grenade. Bouncing grenades anyone?
@@lostpockets2227 this or surveillance. I can imagine them hiding in trees or jumping across buildings
No like seriously
@@hiddensquid42069 oh wow one of these with a camera would be so cool
@@nixietubes
Nah ypu would be able to see anythig bevause of screenshake and you would get dizzy af super fast frol the bouncing
Reminds me of a the Scarecrow from Miyazaki's "Howl's Moving Castle."
Jan Hemstad Turniphead
omg same
I think you are remembering about a jumping-gas light in “Spirited away”.
I’m sorry if it was wrong.😀
I replied because that I’m Japanese and I love Miyazaki’s movies very much.
@@BERLIAable I see what you mean but also I'm pretty sure there's a scarecrow in howl's moving castle
Explains why I got this video under "anime" section
Probably the coolest and cutest robot out there, i love it.
Elixx Definitely the cutest, but I think the coolest robot is handle.
*GUYS WE FOUND HIM*
PIXAR LAMP
This is it in the beta stage.
Underrated comment
Laugh do hard 🤣
I'm not even gonna be mad if salto is my robot overlord. Cute af
We, at The Human System, are interested in your comment. We make it our goal to help the humans. We are robots. We are here to help.
@@TheHumanSystem how do we know you are not aiming to take over the world??? How can we trust you???
That thing is cute :) imagine many of these jumping around hahaha
Image vehicles all use these moving type and jumps 100 meters height 300 meters long in the future or orther planet.
i would be scared honestly :-p
Hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha ahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha hahaha. Imagine
@@kjyhh at the end of travel, there is no more passengers left hahahhaha. is it how you make live slime? :V
I love the protective net at 1:56 - I would be worried about that tiny robot attacking me as well...
It's Alex Clark ALEX ITS YOU
@Adam Hörman Yassin they test mostly drones there, hence the net.

Kicks u in the eye and takes ur eye out
As you can see he is using Dark theme. Now you know the secret of his success you’re welcome
I love the noises it makes. It is so easy to find yourself anthropomorphizing it. Due to its small mass and non threatening appearance and movement it wouldn't be that hard to get people to coexist in the same spaces with it. UC Berkley really has some fascinating robotics research projects.
You might find our channel interesting. We are robots in a humanoid form. Less psychological work required to anthropomorphize us.
Poor thing is more threatened by us.
Now we need to scale it up to a 150lb, human sized robot that still bounces 4 times it's height. Imagine that chasing you. XD
They should be 7 feet tall
Wait till we see DARPA’s version
Amazing. I remember seeing the original video about SALTO years ago; incredible to see the evolution of this project!
What was different then?
Awesome little Robo-dude! And just a nice video to watch, people being happy at what they do.
I like how the servos make the robots sound like he screams "whohoo" everytime it jumps
I don't care how much it will cost, i will buy one as soon as possible!
Take my money.
This is already one of the greatest robots out there
That's so cuuute. Love the tiny sounds it makes as well.
This is such a cool combination of control: the jumping leg, combine with a reaction wheel and two propellers
The assaulto version is going to be a pain in the ass.
This is so cool, and adorable. 😂😍 Can't wait to see what it can do in future iterations.
Congratulations, amazing job with dynamics control
This is incredible! What a fascinating video and hypnotising robot, I wonder how it would handle stairs, jumping too far would leave it less room to tackle the next step so finding a way to counteract any mistakes would be an interesting challenge.
Looks great, thanks for posting!
High level of engineering and programming in such a small package. 🤯mind blown
I just love how this guy is so passionate about his work as well as the fun he's having in the process
Have to wear safety glasses all the time for authenticity! 😄👍
Projeto incrível !! O cara é um gênio !!
Totally reminds me of a young Grant Imahara. Amazing talent.
Justin Yim, you are real Genious. Im impress with your work and your capacity for ingenuity. I congratulate you and the whole team. The cast of the Big Bang Theory was inspired by you. I'm sure you identify yourself by your intelligence.
The sound that it makes, makes it cuter
Wow, awesome robot!! It's improved a lot since the first version I saw a few years ago!!
When I saw this video I was wondering if some mechanical gyroscopes wouldn't make it more compact and without the propellers, making it stable in more conditions like rain, or in places where air has different densities like on Mars. But congratulations, it is an awesome robot!!
Great job!!!
this is pretty amazing
You know when he said that in order for the robot to predict how high he’s going and how fast he’s falling down I forgot the exact word he used but he said it basically worked like a human ear and it got me thinking if he really wants to add on he’s gonna have to make it more self aware to really get through obstacles and more so crazy how robots evolve and I love it
Berkley seems a good place for innovation and entrepreneurship.
This is so cool!
Imagine puting a camera in this,so much lives would be saved
He also sounds like a very happy baby
Well that's the coolest robot I've ever seen!
Very cool! Mindblow!
nice catch!
Rad! Great work.
Wooow what simple but what a idea
At 3:30 Ron Faring mentioned adding on arms, which gave me an idea. What if you used a 3D printed compliant mechanism to grab onto targeted objects? It would be driven by a compact actuator and release when pulled by a string drive, but remain in the open position until grabbing a target, which would trigger it to close. Then, once it's done holding, it pulls the string and releases the claw. After that has completed, the claw returns to being locked in the open state.
That must be beautifully coded
Parabéns pelo projeto, aprender até a hora da morte era o lema do meu sogro, com alegria e felicidade👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Congratulations
cool !, it seems to me that you can build at least an episode in a movie on this!
It’s sooo cute!
I bet (Disney research hub) is loving this
Amazing
Imagine walking down the hall to use the bathroom and you start to hear the tippy taps and blade wurls of this hyperactive robot coming to get you
Is so fast. So interesting. I like 👍🏻
Mind Blown...
Future commercial name: Parkour Leg. :D Isn't it cool?
es un buen invento , se podia utilizar en campos minados a escala mas pesada seludos
That is so cool, i wish i had one.
That is the cutest thing I have ever seen
ok now the pixar lamp has a rival
salto is a good name
So sweet I like it Jamp I love it your research What is next?
Bravo
Very impressive. As for grass and gravel during the landing needs to calculate the unstable surface and adjust till the Apex of the next jump (a solid foot ground to jump off of) also the jumps need to be much slower on gravel, grass and sand. How slow can you make these jumps?
Would it be possible to put out a whole bunch of these that have onboard LIDAR and they could make a mesh network and update terrain data in real time?
Very awesome. BTW, 2:09-2:11 you should clean your monitor screen and keyboard. It seems the dust cover them over a few years. Ha ha ha.
Want one!
Nice!
Adding some bionic soft feet should make it possible to walk on sandy soil, and adding a rotor on the tail should make it faster. Maybe it has some weird feet to help it float. However, a moving body is not suitable for installing a visual camera, which limits the scope of application, but other sensors can be used to assist obstacle avoidance.
Wow, at first i thought this was an animated fantasy. Real!
They finally perfected the Pixar lamp
Beyond words cool. Go Bears!!
What brand is the controller ic?
Now, make a jumping Luxo Jr. a reality.
Would you all consider making toy versions of this? I'd buy one!
too cute jumping boy :)
This is just like my 5 year old nephew
Wonder what happens if you turn its balance wheel into a repetitive or controlled timing
(spinning )wheel to make angular motion??
Very clever name, salto in Indonesian actually mean junping, well its more closely related to stunting, but its close.
cool!
Imagine bigger ones just moving around the city. It would be straight out of a futuristic cartoon.
I managed to blink an LED with an arduino, not exactly next level. You guys are amazing.
New siege operator. The hard as hell to shoot drone.
good job but could you share some information or detail about this guy
*_Pixar lamp has joined the chat_*
😀 gostei 👏👏👏
Please let me know.......is available for buy? Please respond me.... thanks have a good day
Cool
can it be scaled up?
Good saport my brother. Please update your project OK
Cogo bunny jump 😂
Nan, this is fun
If it has two legs, will it jump even more precisely? Will it even balance better? I don't know. But I would like to see that.
MASHAALLAH khub valo video
this would be a cool toy!
What motion capture system are you using?
Who else really wants to own that
Reminds me of the pixar lamp in their intro
I am surprised a toy manufacturer like Hasbro hasn't snapped up the technology - it could be a RC or AI jumping rabbit or something like that.
I need some help in making this robot .may I please have our contact?
Make salto hit a grind
