- In this video, Byron Martin discusses Orchid Cactus:

The Orchid Cactus, known scientifically as Epiphyllum, is a captivating specimen in the cactus family, renowned for its breathtaking, colorful blooms. Unlike its desert-dwelling cactus cousins, the Orchid Cactus hails from the jungles of Central and South America. This means they thrive in humid, well-drained conditions and prefer bright, indirect light. Orchid Cactus do not have the shape of a typical cactus. Instead, they have flat, broad leaves, creating an attractive silhouette even when the plant is not in bloom. Flowering typically occurs from late spring into early summer, offering an opulent display of vibrant colors ranging from pink and red to white and yellow. This plant is also ideal for hanging baskets, as its cascading leaves can create a lush, vertical display. With its minimal care requirements and show-stopping blooms, the Orchid Cactus is perfect for anyone who wants to add a touch of the tropics to their plant collection.

So glad you posted this. I brought one from you in the last couple of years and love it.
Those are beautiful. I'll order one or two in the Spring to try them out.
Luv luv cacti of any sorts !!
Thank you for another awesome video🌹
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great information. Watching from Australia 🦘
You're welcome!
Thanks Byron! Fantastic flowers!
Going on my wish list! 😊
Awesome blooms
Thanks for the information. I've had one for about 20 years but haven't had much blooms. It also looked wild and gangly. I recently cut it back and I'm rooting the leaves. After seeing this video, I realize I need to stress the plant to get it to bloom. Hopefully next year I'll get some blooms! Thanks.
Grasias por tanto❤❤❤❤❤
So beautiful
Wonderful video
Thank you!
Plant knowledge. More videos please!
More on the way!
Best nursery u can order from. Quality plants.. I ordered multiple types of jasmine plants this season and they are already overgrown in the pot and bloomed to the fullest.
Thank you!
Thanks for the info. I always have trouble making them bloom.
Name the unnamed hybrid: The Logees Lotus Pink Lady cos it kinda looks like a lotus blossom
Agreed!
I’d like to try these under trees. Tropical epiphytes do well in the ground here in south west coastal Florida because we don’t typically have any real topsoil here. We have white sand instead. White sand doesn’t hold any moisture so here at ground level under trees, it’s a similar humid but free draining, frost-free growing environment as would be found up in the trees in the true tropics. Frost sometimes forms at the tops of trees and shrubs here but not usually at ground level.
I wished u had a nursery in Midwest which we could visit.😢😢
❤
Beautiful. Can they be kept as a houseplant?
Mines grow these long stick looking stems but has never bloomed. Do I turn them or what?
WOW 😮 They are STUNNING 😍 What zone do they grow in? They are breathtaking!
Zone 10 for outside - otherwise any zone if you keep them inside.
💚👍💚
Does this work for dragonfruit, too?
Yes, they're very similar!
How old do they need to be before flowering?
It depends on the size of the plant. Generally, they should start blooming within 2-3 years. Bigger and older = more flowers!
Easy for you and Californians but not for me. Heat and drought kill them fast.
nothing about the soil mix...!
