My 90+ year old neighbor gave me cuttings. I hope they make it! I don't want to have the awkward conversation with her about how I couldn't keep them alive!
They have such amazing flowers, they are some of the largest flowers of any cactus. I always look forward to late spring when my plant comes into flower.
Hello: I just purchased some eppies from a Canadian grower on Vancouver Island. After watching your video, I knew how to plant them. Now, I am very anxious to see how your plants are coming. Please shot a video to let us all know. Thank you.
Hello, I am interrested in Epiphyllum subtropical cactus. I also do make cuttings for more new plants. I do watch many video and read information about those kind of plants. I did it first at the traditional way, take a cutting from a plant, let it dry some time, next put it in the ground in a pot, no watering the ground, only showering the leaf, sometimes unther a transparant pot for higher air damp. Later I went experimental taking cuttings in many ways. BUt my best experiance is taking cuttings and put those in clear water ( chance the water sometimes), and in summertime the roots might come in a few weeks till six weeks. Next I pot it up in ground and can water soon litlle bits. In between let dry out the ground compleetly. The roots might rot if staying to long in wet ground. I wanted to share my experiance. May be you can make a video about this in futhure? Succes with your plant hobby. Greeting, Marcel.
Yes, they have grown a lot in two years, I have just uploaded an update video. The new growth can take a while to appear, but once started they usually grow quickly.
Thank you for sharing. I'm new at this epiphyllum thing and do hungry for more information about the care. I recently saw some brown/orange parts on my plant. Should I worry? Please help 🤗
If it's not spreading or soft I wouldn't worry, those marks can either be caused by physical damage or too much sunlight. Epiphyllum cacti don't like midday sun unlike most cacti.
ok... you wanted to plant more epiphyllums from the cuttings... but why didn't you repotted the plant to a bigger pot and have also some cuttings from that?
No I wouldn't think so, the best plants for cleaning the air are generally those with lots of leaves, this cactus will still clean the air, but just more slowly.
what epiphyllum has 3 side vine and look like a Dragon fruit plant but not a DF, when i bought it from the nursery the tag just written as epiphyllium that all. No other name on it, very thin look exactly like DF but lot smaller and lengthy.
Yes pretty much, avoid cutting when they are in bloom or have flower buds, also early summer is best as they will root faster, but you can also do it at other times of the year, they just root a little slower.
What is the best time to prune the epiphyllum? I have one that's just getting ready to bloom and I don't want to compromise the bloom. Should I wait until after?
If the cuts have dried out and calloused over you can water them as soon as they are in the soil. Epiphyllum cacti like a lot more water than normal cacti, so keep the soil damp over spring and summer.
@@hymnswelove My mother potted one of these for each of her 5 kids. It is about the only thing I can grow. When branches break off, I just stick them in a pot and they take off. Mine are huge!

Waiting for the update! I have a HUGE one and will have tons of cuttings to share.
The update is finally here, I just uploaded it today.
you should put the plant in a planter with a hole on its side (designed that way) and then hang it up by the ceiling! it’d look really great!
I've done something similar, I've planted them up into a wall mounted planter so that they can trail down. They also look great in a hanging basket.

I never seen before the flower of this cactus.
I like the triangular bits. Is it ok to keep them?
Yes, they can also be used as cuttings to grow new plants.
Do you still have these for an update? Mine finally rooted I got in a trade and I’m interested to see how they produce new growth!

Thank you for sharing, very helpful. Can I have the name of this Epi hybrid shown in the video?
thank you for sharing the information.
Your plant is beautiful where can I buy them we don't get in South Africa please reply thanks God bless you bye
Perfect timing since I need to cut mine too. Thanks for the video
Mine have just rooted now and the original mother plant has started to grow again. I'll do an update in about a months time.
if you just stabilize them with bamboo steaks and a heavy clay pot they will bloom much better and larger.

What size is this pot?Than you.
Very helpful. Thank you!
Can you cut these back at anytime of year??

The black pot size
Would leaf propagation work for agave?
I've never tried it myself, but yes I think Agave would propagate from leaf cuttings. Although its normally easier to use the pups.
Awesoooommmmme 😍 from one u could get more hahah 😊
I'm not sure where they will all fit if they all take root, but I'll certainly keep several of them, I love how big the flowers are in spring.
where is the follow up? :D
I was very late with making this update, but after two years I have finally made an update video.

Cela serait bien que vous traduisez vos explications en français cordialement

Its an indoor plant, unless you live somewhere tropical.
Do you sell cuttings of this?
No, I just give them to friends or family normally.
Gardening at 58 North Oh your family and friends are very lucky. I wish I were a part of them.

Ele não fala português, nós não falamos inglês. Mas dá para cultivar o epifhillum da mesma forma.
