From what I read and personal accounts from elderly relatives - most of whom deceased; Thailand was officially, publicly and politically enthusiastic about Japan being a dominant Asian military power and challenging the Western powers, considering that Thailand was already territorial disputes with France, Britain and Nationalist China.
Aligning with Japan was considered favorable to Thailand regaining former Thai provinces from France and Britain as nationalism was an order of the day
