I have been targeting the sparrows in my yard for the last couple years now in an effort to procted native birds species from this invasive species. I am still seeing plenty of house sparrows but I have also seen an increase in House finches and other birds I would rarely see before. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
I remember making a blue bird box at a local nature center when I was a kid. We were told if we see brown speckled eggs that we should pull out the nest and break the eggs. This was at least 17 years ago.
Well done, this is a good way to keep the cats satisfied with birds.
Be careful feeding them to cats. One sparrow I euthanized immediately ejected a VERY long, thin and fast moving worm. I believe it was full of worms. As soon as it was dead the worm just crawled out of the bird with alarming speed, reminiscent of a horror movie
@@misterkota1252 Getting your cats regular checkups is important and check their litter box. If you have an outside cat, that is reasonably in shape, hunting is a fact of life.
Bread seems to only attract sparrows as most of the other birds like seeds the best. Being as it is a live trap any non target species can be let go.
Yep definitely had that "Uh oh" look.
CooL! It had food in its mouth to bring back to its 4 hungry babies waiting on the nest nearby.
a Chinese proverb: don't catch the birds in spring, the babies are waiting for the parents.
good
I live in Australia. Where do I get one of these traps from please? This type of trapping is very humane, as long as the birds are not kept in the cage for too long. These introduced birds are part of the cause of extinction of many of our native birds and their habitats. That is real cruelty. They do not have to actually attack a native bird to destroy its habitat and breeding grounds. They are out of control here and need to have their numbers drastically reduced.
Not sure that European house sparrows really target one native species over another. They kick eggs and chicks out of nests and take them over instead of building their own. House finches seem to be prime targets for them though.
thanks for replying. I've tried both without any luck. I've washed it down and use gloves when I handle it. I'll keep trying, thanks again!
One of the first ones haha thanks for d vids
So cute, yet so evil
What did you use for a counter balance?
Care to show how its built?
And what do you do with them after you have them?
There is a video on UA-cam called "how to build a sparrow trap" that I used to build this one. I kill the birds after they are caught and give them to my cat.
what do you do with the corpse then?
so our national bird is a pest in your country huh
LOL that would have been funny. Check out those ladder traps that flamedrag18 suggested for the Doves.
I have seen them for crows. I will think on it for sparrows. Thanks for the suggestion.
I see sparrow traps inside of machine sheds because they seem to like nesting inside of big buildings.
How do the birds know the traps are meant for them? What I mean is, do finches and such get trapped also, or is it just that sparrows are particularly gullible? Or do you have a 'sparrows only' sign.
My cat like to play with them. Then they go in the compost pile. Bugs eat em within a day or two.
So, you are wasting them
What is the bait?
ever look into ladder traps? might be effective and a lot simpler...
I build a trap like this and haven't been able to attract sparrows into it. tried different bait still no luck. what would you suggest for bait or any other ideas? thanks
+chuck walters I use white bread. The sparrows like it but the other birds dont. I tried bird seed and I was catching native birds.
Two suggestions… bait the trap but disable the elevator with a zip tie so the birds can freely access the bait tray for several days. When the birds begin feeding without fear, after dark, remove the zip tie. Repeat this every time the birds get wise and avoid the trap.
Second, Try facing the trap in different directions, I found the trap works best when the elevator mechanism is in the shade, as birds cannot see the elevator as well in the shade. If it’s in direct sunlight the birds are easily startled by the elevator movement and jump back to safety.
I used a bolt and washers to get the right weight.
I'm planning on building my own sparrow trap but not that kind
How can I make this?
Sweet. You should invent one for Cow Birds and Starlings,,, 2 more species that need to be wiped out,,,,,,, before our native songs birds are gone...
another ignorant humans is the only one animal who can bring others species of animals to the extinction. and also cats are invasive specie too and kill thousands of birds each year.
Thanks
I have LOTS of sparrows in my small yard and they share everything with my song birds.

White bread.
Bro, clean your camera lens.
Do you eat them?
hm... i bet sparrows don't taste all that great. unless you are a cat. i would probably put 'em down as humanely as possible and give it to the cats. cats wouldn't waste any of it.
+a pile of dung noo, sparrows are great when fried, at least that's the only way I've tried them...
Thomas Muscat sounds interesting. i'd be willing to give it a try.
Although they're quite anoying to clean and all , considering their size. Anyway, I recomend that you try them.
taste like chicken
Incorrect. UA-cam _7QeCdbGSgY
They are also very aggressive and chase and harass adults of other species away from nest and feeders.
Y would you do that?
House sparrows are invasive. They kill native songbirds when stealing nesting sites.
Anyway, why are you doing this?
Save native birds
Chris Vlogs. Sparrows and starlings are considered nuisance birds and they're responsible for the decline in the number of American songbirds. I kill as many of them as I can.
I flick them in the back of the head with my finger. Their skulls are very thin.
RUGRATS!!
Very bad it's look like father, it's cary food.

God help the human race.
Actually it's European Starlings that take over other birds' nests, by laying an egg in another species's nest. Then the Starling hatchling pushes the other hatchlings out of the nest. Sparrows just take over nest boxes intended for other birds, they don't necessarily kick other birds' eggs or nestlings out.
YES they do
No, Starlings are not brood parasites. You’re thinking about cowbirds and cuckoos.
this is a answer , sparrow birds do not kill other birds we film wild birds in Europe and North America for years for NGO and we never saw a sparrow attack any other birds , but we see how humans , pesticides , deforestation and feral cats kill birds for thousands every year. to many species already are gome. Autralia is a big example , so before go out like crazy and kill (something humans do very well)to a innocent and tiny bird look you're self in the mirror.

Saying you've filmed 'sparrows' is somewhat disingenuous. And unless you personally have emptied the remains of dead bluebirds and their young from their houses and the European House Sparrow's nest and eggs in their box, you don't really have a basis to argue for their protection.
How many species of sparrows do you think there are? The sparrows which the U.S. govt. recognizes as an invasive species is the European House Sparrow. No other species of sparrow is recognized as invasive.
In our law, we have a number of species that aren't allowed into the U.S. for the reason that they completely throw off the balance of the eco-system in place.
What is your opinion on the invasive zebra mussel which are infesting the waterways in the U.S. and killing fish and ruining habitat for the species that have been here for thousands of years? Is "cute-ness" the only criteria on which you make your argument?

Dear A Blue, I know your comment is over a year old. I wanted to share that you are profoundly full of marshmallows with your balogna about the house sparrows not killing birds. You invite the poster to "look in the mirror" may I suggest that you conduct true observations, apply true science and arrive at the exceptionally common knowledge that House Sparrows do indeed displace, kill adults, kill hatchlings, crack, and eject native songbird eggs. It takes a great amount of effort in order to "film wild birds" and not obtain this rudimentary knowledge. Nature is not "innocent" it is in a constant state of fierce competition and hopefully where mankind intervenes in the way this UA-cam individual does, we will help improve the outcome to the advantage of all. The House Sparrow must be trapped, shot, executed, ended, removed, extracted at each and every opportunity if song birds are to make it. Thank you for reading the truth. You are dismissed.
@@theplaintruth4794 Your comment really was out of place in tRunps USA. Everyone is entitled to their own alternate facts.
This is stupid idea!
Yeah, let's allow this invasive species to ravage the native population of birds and brutally kill their hatchlings.
??
Do you know what sarcasm is bruh
No! please read up on that. Sparrows do theyre own nesting and raise theyre own offspring. Are you killing them? and whytrapping them?
you are wrong
This is wrong. It's not up to you to kill wild bird species. It's extremely cruel
well you see house sparrows are a past here in the U.S and they fight out other birds so they can take their nest spot until the whole neighbourhood is infested with these introduced species
You're cruel
stop animal cruelty sparrows are God creatures and if you want protect native birds you should first go again people, people kill more birds than any other creatures also cats, cats kill thousands of birds each year and also you are a ignorant is absolutely no proof sparrows kill others birds and second you will have karma for the coward crime you are doing .
You are ignorant
You’re wrong. There are many videos of sparrows killing native songbird nests and young. You say there’s no proof but I found at least a half dozen videos proving it. Do a search.
