If you'd asked me ten years ago, I'd have said "give me those integrated gains". Now though, with the movement away from racing, I'd rather be able to quickly and easily service my bike and change/swap parts.
There is a new pedal out now at Pitbull Kon with stainless steel and carbon fiber. The lean angle is huge it just appears to be long in length because of the design. No one is still pedaling at the point of angle that these provide.

The bicycle is such a simple invention, and was once the working man's transport all week, and his means escape at the weekend. £300 for a headset service and those prices for bars, stem etc. are just plain stupid for anyone who is not already at the peak of fitness and technique and is not already competing at a high level. Why have we made such a simple pleasure so bloody complicated?
I have TRP Spyre mech. disc brakes on my CX bike with road tyres(Cube Cross Race 2019). They are shit, especially when you need them in Mud and Gravel.
Yes, I had them - I thought they were garbage; in fact rim brakes with Swiss Stop pads stop just as well, if not better. Hydraulic discs are the best choice for discs.
It's a bit confusing that in the competition entry form there is a field to enter country, however in the small letter part it is stated that it is restricted to the UK
@@allancollie2823 Unfortunately it's only UK only. However in the entry form it's clearly stated that it is restricted to the UK: " Open to all residents of the UK, 18 years and over, " and " 28 days of the closing date and will be required to supply details of a UK delivery address".
Pedal concept is simple and good if they shortened the axle length so you don't bounce them off the road when cornering. The fully integrated cables are nice but not worth the maintenance hassle for anyone outside the pro level and without their own mechanic.
With modern 11 speed setups with narrow chains big ring on the front and big on the back works without any chain rub! As long as you’ve sized your chain accordingly. The pros do it all the time. I do it on some short moderate hills with no issues. That rule came in probably around the time of 5 speed cassettes.
Total integrated cable at cockpit are essential when we mounted a handlebar bag to ensure gear shifting are perfectly tuned. Rubbing of cable casing by handlebar bag also another issue.
About the new lightweight tube types I am very disappointed about there are nearly no ones coming with AV valves. With the Sclaverant valves I can't use the compressors at petrol stations and that means long time pumping with my big 3" tires and having all time a pump with me (often got stolen if not taken with me when parking the bike.
I need $300 a lot more than I need 2 watts savings and I'm sure the overwhelming majority of cycling enthusiasts would do. Are integrated systems brilliant? Yes. Do the clean up the bike nicely? Yes. Are they a female dog when it comes to servicing them? Damn skippy.
Integrated definitely looks better, and yeah have some power savings BUT... I am not a Pro with my own personal mechanic, and although i can find my way around my bike i personally prefer the 'easier to work' with solutions. I ride my bike to improve/maintain form, with the occasinal Triathlon (no ironman) and sine i've crept up in the rather mature 54+ agers, it's about completing more than winning and the minute powersavings is not the biggest concern hehe. Give me Rimbrakes and good mechanical semi-hidden cables and i'll be the happiest clam on the beach :).
I think FSA is going to come up with the industry winning solution like their ACR headset. Sure companies like specialized will do their own thing, but most will adopt what FSA came up with. The hoses still go through the headset, but they allow for height changes. They just came out with a stem for routing below the stem that’s removable. I like cervelo s3 quill stem idea too.
Have you seen the website. They have a flat pedal attachment that works great when you just wanna go for a bike ride . In your sneakers or just go pick up the coffee
Definitely Cable free is the way forward... But good to have semi-integrated options like Trek's Aeolus RSL VR-C... It's not just watts, it looks sweet too🥰
They made a mistake on the weight of the pitbull bike pedal. Turned out to be 114 g to stay with the ISO testing of holding 347 pounds for 60 seconds as I understand it
They need a quick disconnect system for the brakes hidden in the stem that would help massively. Gearing isn't too bad but fitting SRAM AXS would clearly be a big beneft here. Scott has just kicked off this trend with their new Spark Full suspension bike so expect to see this more and more as other brands implement it.
No, we absolutely do not want these parts, costs, designs that make for ridiculous maintenance. For Pro Racers, sure, they have Pro Mechanics who make a living dealing with it. But, for the Average Joe cycling enthusiast, totally ridiculous. I have only one bike with a Stoopid D Shape seat post and it's a nightmare! I'd never go for an integrated stem and bar system that I cannot easily maintain myself. Bah!
Integrated cabling looks great, clean. Not sure if aero gains for most non-pro cyclists makes a diff. If you are a regular traveler and need to bike pack, integrated systems do not work well. Any bike bag where you are no detaching your bars, face a risk of damaging your bars at the other end of the trip. Personally , minimize the level of cabling by going wireless shifters like SRAM AXS, and ensure your hydraulic cables are not too long at the cockpit end. KISS rule!!
I think as long as people on both sides are catered for I’m happy. Personally I’m not into max aero gains so I’d prefer reliability and ease of maintenance. However, if I could afford at £5k+ bike then maybe I wouldn’t be worried about expensive parts and maintenance bills.
@Cycling Weekly... The easy solution to cables is just to get rid of them by going wireless. Then you don't have to worry about cable stretch and detoration.
The no cables look is faster and sexier but is it $300+/6 months sexier? Well - no, not unless you're actually into the racing life and can offset those costs, which, in this economy...
55 watt reduction for cable integration!!! If the whole bike is 20% (or less) of the drag on a rider/bike system that means you'd have to be going way faster than the already fast 50 km/hr the manufacturers use to get that 55 watt reduction.
my experience - hit the car, change the bars. Riding more gravel, get a shorter stem and raise the bars. This would never be possible with this integrated stuff.
I can imagine Big Bike sitting around lighting cigars with hundred dollar bills as they laugh about how a good bike costs well more than a decent car these days.
For all users the gains are not really meaningful. The Pitbull petals look great simple in and out is what people want in a petal. That’s why you see so many riders on MTB petals on road bikes.
