Some fun facts for you! the Calico950 is a gun that was supposed to be in 1.5. The Calico950 was supposed to be the machine gun that Elza uses. The chemicals where supposed to be used with grenade shells that were found in the environment and you were supposed to use the save boxes as a mixing station for the healing items as there were green, blue and red chemicals that should've replaced the herb system. The watch was another 1.5 leftover that know one knows it's use of, the different coloured cards are also supposed to be used during the RPD and factory sections of 1.5. Sadly though the 40% build that was leaked doesn't allow you to use certain weapons or key items as the game will crash, in case you plan on showcasing RE1.5 in the future. Nice video showcasing some of the awesome stuff in the preview that was locked away!
I miss GameShark. Had one for the PS and PS2. I have my PS2 disc and memory card somewhere. Before that I had a Game Genie for NES, SNES, and Genesis. People think of it as cheating, but considering the internet was still an emerging public thing, it made more sense. You didn't want to get stuck when playing your $80 ($134 today with inflation) copy of Final Fantasy 3(6) and have no way to get past a problem, and no consensus of people helpfully detailing every step. Try explaining to your parents why you're not playing the insanely expensive game they just bought you and why they should ever buy you another one. They let you do some really funny things too.
If I'm remembering it right, the Calico can be "used" in the final version of the game with the use of a gameshark code as well. The weapon model is loaded, but it uses the shooting style of other weapons (which can also be modified with the GS codes).
Bruno Arcoverde yes the Calico can be used by Leon in the vanilla RE2 with a Game Shark cheat, if remember correctly the items description and image will show Clair’s Colt SAA but when you equip it it will be the Calico, also it only works on birds for some reason.
Really interesting stuff. I'm also glad you didn't preface your video by saying something like "with the recent release of RE2 remake" or something like that, so that the video doesn't feel dated for people finding it in the future.
Yeah, I do what I can to try to avoid dating my videos. It'd be weird to see this video ten year later and hear it talk about how new the remake is. :-P
Excellent video as usual! I was actually watching your video about RE2 Preview Disc when I received the notification. Your channel kicks a lot of ass, you should have way, way more subscribers, I think you make some very underrated stuff about Resident Evil games. Keep with the good work dude, cheers from Brazil.
That Calico 950 sort of shows up in the full game (UK/PAL at least) if you fool around with a cheat cart/disc to add the Colt S.A.A. to Leon's inventory and equip it. It doesn't really do anything however, and Leon holds/aims it like the VP70.
It's cool to see it "in action" but unfortunately it does no damage despite all the noise and muzzle flash. When I was a kid I thought it was some sort of sci-fi lab gun or whatever they didn't finish in time for putting in the game!
We finally have this game in our hands. I still can't believe it. RE2 REmake all weekend baby. Great video, I remember playing this preview disc back in the day over and over.
4:37 This pistol is in final game. If you equip Colt S.A.A as a male character (Chris, Leon) it will show up. You can shoot it but it can't hit enemies. So I think that this is Colt S.A.A alternative for Leon.
My hats off to you for making a video about this. I've shown this to friends over the years. Ijust wanted to elaberate on some interesting facts about this. To start with you can do this using an Action Replay to do this, but it takes hours to put in the codes. As mentioned you can do this with the RE2 demo disc. They are slightly different codes. The demo they put out for some reason is basically a date dump by the developers. It's unknow why they did this however. Some interesting highlights to see and take note of is the original inclusion of the ammo crafting tool found in RE3 and a few more titles later. In fact the grenade launcher rounds you find in the game were just your normal gray ones. To get acid or flame rounds you would need to mix normal rounds with different gunpowder to get them. You can use them and see a different effect animation from them than in the final game. Flame rounds look killer. My best guess why they didn't keep this is in game is it's simply overpowering like it was in RE3. If you can read Japanese several files that never made the final game are readable and very interesting. Unfortunately VS.Books strategy guides had very limited prints runs. A shame really because everyone of the guides they published were hands down better than another guide published for the same games. They are expensive as a result of it. If your a huge RE fan from back in the day or just hardcore into RE it is worth tracking the guides down. And yes, that's not a typo. VS. Books actually did a guide for RE3. The guides are a gem for RE collectors, and the same for the BH2/RE2 demo disc for having the extra content on them.
Putting in the codes is really, really time-consuming. My recording was over an hour, and I only used twenty minutes or so, after cutting out failed attempts at maneuvering through levels, as well as time entering codes. Also, wow, I didn't realize that VS did a guide for RE3. Thanks for all your information!
@@lotus-prince My pleasure. If you put the time into exploring with the codes on the demo it's rewarding as a fan just to see what could've been. So few people know about this. The only thing that could top as a fan would be finding the near complete version of what we know as RE1.5 in an old desk or something.
I think that precinct key with L on it was later re-used in RE3, and I think it unlocked the gate to the park or a building in the park when you play as Jill again after getting a cure for her infection from Nemesis as Carlos. The only difference though is that L etching was removed, since it wouldn't make much sense to have it.
I used to have the versus guide for RE2, and I remember that whole section on all the hidden stuff on the demo disc. Unfortunately I lost the guide many years ago, but I still have the versus guide for RE3.
The last crow in the crow hallway had one of the gorilla's scream sound effects still. I remember seeing that before but I had thought it was only in the earlier Bio2 trial disc, not sure how you got to it on the american one. Perhaps because that was an earlier version of the room? Without the door to the outside stairwell? Not sure. But yeah the gorilla/mandrill enemies were a thing in 1.5, I'd guess the sound effect was just leftover.
You have to play the original's trilogy, the 1 Rebirth, the 0 and Code Veronica, those are the "true" Resident Evil in my opinion... The RE2's remake is very good though, it's survival-horror again, so nice choice...
The Desert Eagle actually gets the extended barrel in the release version, which is what makes it custom. I can't read the Japanese, but I suspect there's a fairly faithful translation of this in the release game, which tells you it's a Desert Eagle chambered for "DOT" 50 A.E., apparently someone misunderstanding it's a literal dot for .50 Action Express. As for the blander Precinct Key, I think it's possible these were eventually replaced by the Small Keys Leon gets, which allow him to open various things throughout the game. What makes me think this is the "Limited" in the description, suggesting they're single use, and not able to open multiple locks the way the larger Card Suite keys can. The Calico M950 was the duel SMG Claire could use in Code Veronica, while the Recovery Chemical had an even longer delay, not appearing until Resident Evil 7 in place of First Aid Sprays. Interestingly enough, Antidote Sprays also appear later on, in Operation Raccoon City, as one of the items you use to recover from in-game status effects. Bonus points, Leon's portrait is completely different; he's wearing the jacket he has in some clips of Re1.5, which is also what he begins the Remake wearing, suggesting Leon's portrait here is a placeholder from that version of the game. In the release version, he's wearing the uniform he wears in the final game, and isn't looking at the camera; the picture is a bit darker (although this could just be because it's the N64 version I'm most familiar with) and he also has a much sterner expression.
@@lotus-prince You're welcome. Also something that just occurred to me is another piece of content cut from Re1.5. In that version of the game, Elza Walker can be seen wielding what appears to be the Calico M950 (she holds it differently from the MAC-11 found in the release game, at any rate), while Leon can be seen using an HK G3. Since the Calico has different animations and a different model than the MAC-11, it's likely equipping it causes the game to crash because at least one of those is missing. The G3 is more interesting, though. There's video of both Leon and Elza using the shotgun, suggesting, as was the case in the original, the shotgun would be available to both characters. However, only Elza is ever seen using the Calico, and only Leon uses the G3, and since both weapons fill a similar niche, it's possible *these* were scenario specific, and Capcom eventually just made the shotgun Leon's and gave Claire the crossbow. However, many people noted the MAC-11 in the release version is significantly larger than the real machine pistol. Comparing the way Leon holds the G3, it's apparent to me the MAC-11 is actually using the G3's animations, at least when it comes to being carried and fired. I've never seen the weapon's third person reload, but it's possible that would confirm it, since the G3 and MAC-11 have magazines in completely different places, and Capcom may not have bothered changing this, given it'd be extremely rare (only once per playthrough) you'd see this in the first place.

When I'm not playing RE2 remake, I'm thinking about RE2 remake or watching videos about RE history. It's a drug
@@McMeatBag This is so true
5:19 when the re2 remake came out lolol
Ha!
1+ year late to the party with the content:
ua-cam.com/video/mLDNyual8UM/v-deo.html
More like exactly on time, because I did my video on my own.
The remake makes me cry, please play it. No more cheesing Mr.X by going into another room. I was too pampered from the old version and shit bricks everytime
I'll play it, but it won't be for awhile.
🙂
I played the remake and beat it all the way through. It isn't good compared to the original. Wish they did what they did with the RE1 remake.
I've played the demo, and what I've seen is amazing so far.
@@lotus-prince SPOILERS! The soundtrack is great, the music is good, but playing through all four scenarios is a waste of time. Leon A and Claire B or Claire A and Leon B, all of it is the same. You play through Leon and Claire story once and you get the story. There are hardly any story differences if you play one first and the other second.
I can't play resi 2 remake cause I only have a Nintendo Switch 🤠
It's on Steam, I think.
Damn just watched a vid from 4 years ago and still only 14k subs? Still a stick?
Kill something do something interesting. No wonder no one watched or subs ya.
People who have an attention span more than a 10 year old fortnite kid enjoys this quality content. Go watch some crappy let's player like jacksepticeye.
Apparently the number of subs slowly but steadily going up over the years = no one subbing
No one watches or subs to me? You did, didn't you? Hell, you clicked on multiple videos I've made.
No one else has made such a comprehensive comparison of all versions of RE1 and RE2. Lotus has earned his place amongst other creators.
@@kayfranks87 Thank you very much!
