This genuinely has one of the all-time best voiceovers I've ever heard (the narration), it's perfectly hammy and brilliant. And it's on a kid's TV show, go figure. Just proves that if you get real talent involved at all levels, anything can be great. And yes I loved watching this as a kid. Theme tune still gets stuck in my head now and then too.
Castle Duckula. Home for many centuries to a dreadful dynasty of vicious vampire ducks, the counts of Duckula! Legend has it that these foul beings can be destroyed by a stake through the heart, or exposure to sunlight. This does *not* suffice, however, for they may be brought back to life, by means of a secret rite, that can be performed once a century when the moon is in the eighth house of Aquarius. The latest reincarnation did not run according to plan.
In Italy the intro did not include the scene with the bloody script nor the vampire hunter shooting the projectile to heart. Moreover the resurrection rite for Italians was performed when "The sun was in trigon with Uranus"! "E PER FINIRE SANGUE DI PIPISTRELLO!"
I'm an American and I love CountDuckula. Unfortunately I don't really like Danger Mouse but i do Remember the Original Count Duckula villain but he was only a tad bit similar to this one.
oh yes the classic theme tune to my favourite british cartoon count duckula. so glad i bought all the episodes on dvd this week, brings back some good memories this show.
Stephen Byrne Since you accidentally used ketchup instead of blood in the reincarnation process. Or, if you prefer, since they had to make him appealing to children.
Oh my god I thought id never hear thing theme again thank you for the upload your champion lol now I watch this 1000 times a day. So many memories in the early 90s ill never get back 🥲 After watching this it’s all coming back to me all at once 😎👍
@EvenflowBlack OMG mysterious cities of gold is on dvd?!? that was my first favorite show. it easily got me into anime at like age 4. thank you for bringing that to my attention!
I wonder if the people contracted to make songs for kids shows realize that their music will be stuck in our heads decades after the show aired. I mean some musicians might call it a bad gig as I'm sure the pay isn't all that great compared to being a rock star etc. but talk about legacy! I mean I know it's not Beethoven but damn, so many people look back on this and other kid show themes with such nostalgia and happiness. Not many people can say they've done something like that before.
@@m56214 I never thought of Daffy Duck before. But now that you mention it, there is indeed a resemblance. Back then, I was more of a Disney kid, so Donald Duck was the only cartoon duck I though of when I saw Duckula.

SON to answer your second question first, Duckula is his own father in the sense that he literally is the same person (duck) as his father is him in his previous incarnation prior to his death and resurrection. Essentially it is him referring to his previous lives as his father, grandfather etc. the last incarnation is considered the father and the one before that the grand father. The various counts of Duckula (including the one that appears in DangerMouse, the show Duckula is a spin-off from) is all the Duckula we see in the episodes, only he isn't evil like he was in his previous lives as a result of Nanny making a mistake during the resurrection ritual (eg. Ketchup instead of blood).
As for your second question, Duckula doesn't really have parents in the sense that his father, grandfather, great grandfather etc. we're all him in previous lives, so wherever Duckula is, essentially his father, grandfather, great grandfathers etc., are there too. Anyway I hope this was helpful and hopefully not too confusing 😆
@@toxicmelon6836 thnx for answering, the father thing always confused me, but for the first question he had to have had a mom and dad and some point right? Cause we know he has vampire relatives older than him
SON your welcome 😆 Oh and in terms of his actual parents, there is no mention of them, so it is best to assume they were vampires too, but the vampires we see in the portraits are Duckula himself, being older because they were his previous incarnations and had lived through different time periods. Essentially, Duckula is centuries old. Again I hope that this was helpful 😀
Still a brilliant theme tune.
Whoever composed and produced this is a genius.
None of these cartoons missed me back then
You ever notice that British cartoons were amazing in the 80s and 90s?
0:13 - It even has the bump!
Like Bananaman?
As born in the 80s I watched them all basically
Never knew it was British, it uses to be my fav as a kid
Cosgrove Hall understood cartoons could work for both adults and kids at the same time long before the likes of the Simpsons.
I like how he kept the Thames intro as well. :)
I barely remember that. Who or what is Thames?
Edward Gaines The Thames is a river.

Kick ass tune. Could easily be a Morris Day and the time song.

What a masterpiece! Sadly, this cartoon is incredibly obscure in our country. And what's even sadder is that this cartoon got only 65 episodes

Jim's ears are definitely broken
Fun fact:
The narrator also did the intro to Number of the beast by Iron madien
Thats why both are so ace then!
Barry Clayton, at first I thought it was Vincent Price 😄
Nice ...up the irons 🤘
