Clint with our current USMNT would be NASTY. We need a player with Clints personality up front. Someone who's ready to fight whoever and with the skill to back it up.
I never booed, and will never boo, these guys as a US soccer fan, these guys gave us the best US team I ever saw. The back was solid, leadership in the middle, and between Dempsey, Altidore, and Donovan, they could send home anyone. All love for these guys.
they could send anyone home???? but never did. nevermind WC or Olympics they couldn't win CONCACAF. they never lived up to the hype, never took accountability, and now they laugh it off like it is a joke. when USMNT loses there are no tears, anyone being pissed off it is just another game or tournament. there is no pride and heartache for letting down their country. did you see Messi when he had to come out of CONCACAF Champions Cup finale? you never see that emotion and heartache and PASSION from USMNT players. I was excited when MLS started but it has been a major disappointment and the only reason top players come to MLS is at the end of their careers and for the money. it isn't because MLS is a top league in the world. there is no passion, no tactic that pushes the world to be scared or truly prepare, we can't get a coach that could coach the rest of the world. there is no passion outside of the fan base. I used to play soccer growing up and understand the game but US version of soccer is boring and cannot compete on the world stage. it is no wonder that USMNT fails to qualify for WC and Olympics. how many of our players have gone overseas to play? or have been invited to play Bundesliga? EPL? Serie A? La Liga? Ligue 1? Altidore, Dempsey, and Donovan all came up short time and time again on the biggest stages. I have been around the game a very long time going back to 1990 and the Tony Meola Wynalda Lalas team had way more passion and competitiveness and accountability and definitely lived up to the hype and were pissed when they lost and fell short even though no one expected anything from them. why be so afraid to hold players and teams accountable when they fall short???
This is an outstanding conversation to listen to as a lifelong USMNT fan. Legends of our team breaking down their perspectives on how the bigger picture, this was a great video!
Jozy Altidore was great with AZ in 2012/2013 winning the KNVB cup in the Netherlands. Scoring in all six matches totally eight goals. Two goals and an assist against Ajax in the semi final and the winning goal in the final against PSV.
I pray that Jozy will take on a some tv role in some capacity because I feel like he could absolutely shine. His takes are solid and the fact that he has opinions contradictory to the common American punditry is absolutely real. Kate please help put this man on.
I remember playing against Jozy when he played for Boca Juniors. Even as a striker myself, I knew I was nowhere on his level; defenders hated playing against him.
In a funny way, this makes me realize what the current USMNT is missing. These guys haven't seen each other in 4-5 years and yet the camaraderie, unity, banter is right back. They were truly "a team" while the current team feels too much about individuals. There's something about fighting and grinding together that builds that team strength, as opposed to a few guys trying to carry the weight and make things happen on their own. Sometimes the competitiveness to fight w/each other (like they talked about early on and at other points) breeds an atmosphere to fight for eachother. I think this topic came up in Landon's time on the show as well. Really good stuff!
I loved Jozy and Clint so much growing up. I remember on fifa 13 playing on sounders as a striker on career and putting the sliders up so I ran 99mph and had adrianos canon. Clint you were KDB man🤣 that team vs the new team would be something special to watch. Pulisic would do yedlin so bad
Interesting convo I liked how they delved into the post WCQ aftermath. I also find it interesting how some players who were involved in that game have escaped alot of the criticism (Dempsey) but others (Altidore and Bradley) have not.
@andysvt8 Not sure I agree. Michael Bradley ended with 151 caps, 17 goals (including that massive goal to tie against Slovenia in 2010). Bradley, 3rd all time in caps, and ended up with more caps than Dempsey. Altidore ended with 115 caps and 2nd all time in goals scored for the national team. So it's not like Bradley and Altidore were players who didn't give alot to the national team. They gave alot. I think Bradley got alot of criticism cause he was seen being carried around to avoid getting his boots wet and had some tone-deaf quotes after the game. Altidore, I'm less sure on the resistance he received. I'd be guessing at best.
JOZY ALTIDORE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST STRIKER THAT THE US NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM HAVE BEEN WITNESSED PLAY ON THE PITCH,HIS ENDURANCE,HIS SPEED,HIS STRENGTH,HIS SKILLS WAS UNCONTROLLABLE.
Grew up with this group representing the colors. Still bitter that Donovan wasn’t included for one more run in 2014, but equally sucked that Jozy injured his hamstring against Ghana with no real out and out replacement. He and the group as a whole had a great 2013 during the closing stages of the qualifying run and lead-in to that World Cup.
BY THE WAY THAT'S A GREAT SHOW,THE US NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM WAS AT HIS PEAK WHEN THEY WENT TO THE 2010 WORLD CUP IF JOZY ALTIDORE DIDN'T GET INJURED THEY WERE GOING TO MAKE IT TO THE FINAL.
I was just thinking during the legit fifa windows in the upcoming 2 yrs would it be smart for usmnt to travel and play the first team players with a few reserve players to replace players that are playing for their countries during the qualifying window, to play like man city,Barcelona,Real Madrid, chelsea,Newcastle , top teams in brazil, Argentina,England ,Spain during those windows to play actual good competition rather than playing lower level countries that can’t help the progess of our team.Tbis can also test our tactics and how we can adjust aganist these teams that play similar to the national teams of their respective countries ?
This generation never gets enough credit for putting US soccer on the map. Let’s not forget they got to a confederations cup final and dominated Brazil for 45 minutes
DOMINATED is the right word. I watched that game in the lobby at church. Then by the time i got to BW's they were tied. Got to my table and we were down. Sad and proud day!
Thats not what he said. He just asked why the others said that the US team was good enough to beat Trinidad and Tobago. Its a good question since that US team actually lost to Trinidad and Tobago.
Berhalter the current coach also lost to Trinidad and Tobago. Wtf is wrong with the us association? They rehired an absolute joke of a coach! In a weird way i kinda hope the usmnt gets destroyed in copa America and Berhalter gets fired. Even BJ Callahan was better. Honestly i wouldn't be against bringing Klinsmann back or hiring Tab Ramos.
When I was 13 playing on a tour in Europe, Liverpool great Ian Rush called me up on stage, gave me an award for goal of the tournament and said "I haven't seen a goal like that since George Best..." I had recently failed to make ODP in my state despite scoring 84 times in 36 games in one year at the top level possible. I had quit speedskating, which I was North American champion for my age at, to concentrate on soccer. That about sums up the USSF developmental program for me... My whole story is crazy and nobody would believe it but the bottom line isn't that uncommon: The USSF couldn't spot and develop real talent if it dropped its pants and took a dump in the lobby of their headquarters.
For some reason I didn't realize this was going to be usmnt and MLS player podcast.... if there was a podcast that interviewed just g league players, would you listen or tune in to the NBA one?
Its a shame we didnt see another world cup with dempsey and altidore. I think the main factor why the usmnt didnt qualify was guzan. The worst us goalie ever.
Lemme translate that for you Jozy the guy can score 70 goals in the MLS cause the MLS is not a competitive league, in Europe you find the true talents it is what it is either you like it or not they don’t even call the sport its real name come on bro this league is a joke the US WILL never win unless all their players are from Europe any player from the MLS will receive zero respect from me cause they disrespect the game by not calling it football point blank period I stand on it.
Hope he fired his agent. Hull and Sunderland? 2 of the trashest teams in the EPL then, still struggling to get into the Championship playoffs all these years later.
Disagree with Jozy about 2014 vs Today … today is not only better, but they can beat 2014 in many ways offensively. 2014 is not going to make our defense panic too much
Naw, that 2014 team and the 2009 starting XI and subs are better than the team we have now. The coaching and tactics of this generation are holding this team back significantly.
Clint with our current USMNT would be NASTY. We need a player with Clints personality up front. Someone who's ready to fight whoever and with the skill to back it up.
Yeah you’re right. Pulisic for instance is not that “guy”.

The best show. These are my boys, my generation. It's great to hear their perspective on things. Kate, Charlie, Mo and Clint do a great job hosting.
This is an outstanding conversation to listen to as a lifelong USMNT fan. Legends of our team breaking down their perspectives on how the bigger picture, this was a great video!
Appreciate this so much. Wow! Watched all of these guys since 1994….Charlies’ confession about team calling him after Algeria was emotional. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸.

This show just keeps getting better and better.
Amazing episode - Kate is so good at keeping the flow of the conversation going
This show has so much potential to be one of the best fútbol shows ever. Keep bringing them stars 😊
Jozy is the best guest I've seen on here so far. You need to get Cobi Jones on here, he would be epic.
Cobi Jones and Jimmy Conrad

Man I just love that this is a conversation, especially with the black athletes who were my heroes. I love us and I love this group ❤
Jozy has been the player US fans loved to hate on his whole career
I've always been a fan, but I know what you mean, it's all you hear about him
I never thought he was a player the fans wanted to hate. It seems like Michael Bradley is that guy.
He was a good player but he never had his iconic moment because of injury (2014) and failure to qualify in 2018.
I can see Jozy as a world class show presenter. ❤️
I remember playing against Jozy when he played for Boca Juniors. Even as a striker myself, I knew I was nowhere on his level; defenders hated playing against him.
Kate single handedly carrying the show.
Love Jozy. Always rooted for him to succeed in the Prem, his work rate was unreal for Sunderland

Interesting convo
I liked how they delved into the post WCQ aftermath. I also find it interesting how some players who were involved in that game have escaped alot of the criticism (Dempsey) but others (Altidore and Bradley) have not.
Dempsey was a late sub, near the end of his career. Altidore & Bradley started the game and were in their prime.
Because Dempsey had already proved and done so much for the national team beforehand. Altidore and Bradley…not so much.
@andysvt8 Not sure I agree. Michael Bradley ended with 151 caps, 17 goals (including that massive goal to tie against Slovenia in 2010). Bradley, 3rd all time in caps, and ended up with more caps than Dempsey.
