Got a GT Aggressor last week. Haven’t owned or rode a bike since I was a kid about 25+ years ago. So much has changed since then. Been learning a lot from you guys of what this bike can and can’t do. Thanks for all you do.
You will have sooo much fun...gotta make up for lost time now! Take it easy for the first few months cos when I look back a few years into it having come from a similar position, most of my bad crashes so far were near the start when U don't quite know Ur limits and are still getting a feel for it... Good luck and congratulations...it was one of the best decisions i made to take the plunge. it cured my sciatica!
I just bought one because of this channel this week for 299. Thanks for all the content and help getting me back into biking. Haven’t done it since I was a teen 20 years ago
I know this is an older video but I really love your channel. I just found a GT Aggressor Pro on marketplace for 100 bucks and I'm upgrading everything your channel has been a huge help.
FWIW I have a medium and I put some specialized slaughter grid 2.6 tires on and so far so good. The caliper says the tire is 2.25 at the widest point, compared to 2 and 1/16th for the stockers. Maxxis high roller 2s at a 2.40 width are also 2.25 when mounted on the stock wheels.
I gave my GT Aggressor Pro to my son in law but I really liked that bike (especially once I converted it to a 1X and added the Epixon Air Fork). I prefer the Axum DP because it was a better value at the same price ($499) but with a dropper, tapered head tube, already a 1X and 3.6 tires. At $299 though, the GT is a steal. The $200 saved could pay for the air fork and 1X conversion. It's always fun and informative to watch you folks. You just saved a bunch of people money and headaches by showing them what tires they can fit to replace those 2.10s.
I just got an aggressor pro a few weeks ago for 300 CAD used but essentially brand new. Yesterday just got a Rockshox Judy Silver tk for 220 CAD installed and I am having such a blast with this bike.
9:03 be careful, it's not as tough as you might think.I've seen a kid years ago that had a XCR fork I think the spring shot out of the fork at a drop he said. If I am not mistaken the coil is only held in place with the plastic cap, which will fail with enough hard riding. He did 1M drops.
I just picked the same one up xl tiered it all the way down for a customer bought it brand new now I am changing everything on the bike with a downhill Ford and I have the maxis tires 2.8 front and back they don’t rub at all
I was literally just wondering this I swear you guys read my mind lol. I went back to your old video a few days ago when you installed 2.9 inch tires and was really confused because I am barely able to get a 2.35 inch tire to fit on my stock rear. I purchased a wider rim/wheel (WTD STi23) a few days ago and it got delivered today, I'm going to be installing some 2.40 Maxxis Ardent Skinwalls tonight, so wish me luck. I still am going to send you guys a pic of the bike, it looks totally different from the last time I sent you a pic. Also PLEASE BRING BACK VIEWER RIDES, I loved that segment. Also I should mention, i measured the inner width of my stock rims and they were 19mm on the dot, so that's weird. 07/02/2024: Update The 2.40 Maxxis Ardents fit just fine. I'm going to see if a 2.5 inch will fit later this week. I gotta get a rear tire for winter and want to get the widest that will fit.
The other thing you might encounter with putting really fat tires on a bike is that in the lowest gear on the back get chain rub against the outer tread. I ran into this taking a 20- inch wheeled bike and replacing the 1.3 inch tire with a 2.3 inch tire. The frame had enough clearance but the chain just slightly rubbed the aggressive outer treads.
Quick primer for use of that foot pump (in the opening), your feet aren't what's at the end of your wrists;) Love that you're willing to experiment with a bike that had perfect geometry for you.
Glad you're revisiting the GT Aggressor Pro; maybe GT will also revisit their design. Plus tires (2.8" - 3.0") are like mini suspension, great for hardtails. I'm thinking of moving all my Aggressor upgrades to the basic Avalanche Sport 29".
14:03 The tyre won't roll off the rim. But if the tyre is too big for the rim it will pivot or roll to the side, it won't be as stable as it sohuld be. 20mm rim is quite narrow. I've tried 2.30 tyres on 1.75mm rims, it definitely should work on 20mm and 23mm last mentioned I've tried. but 23mm will do good with 2.40 tyres, but will perform great on 30mm, it will turn better.
17:59 that looks fine, if proper pressure is used and the frame is not too flexy or the tyre has warped. If the ''tyre hairs'' don't touch or barely touch it's fine fine if the frame is stiff enough, unless the tyres got warped, but that's not the clearance's fault. Stiffness of the frame depends on the type of ALU, tube thickness, the design, butt unless they used some super thin or weak tubing I don't think this frame sohuld have issues with stiffness. But you should do a stiffness test. To show if the chain stay flexes into the tyre.
Gotta comment! Just found you guys and was seeing how much tire I can fit on my GT. Noticed the last video you're in Arkansas, which is where I live and in this video you're wearing an Iowa wrestling shirt, which is where I'm from lol.
The GT Aggressor L sized frame can hold a 29x2.3 tire. I have a 29x2.3 Spec Purgatory on a 19mm internal rim. It fits and has about😢 3/16 inch side clearance on the top triangle. It's tight, but it fits. 👍
Thanks for the info! 👍 Considering that The Tick is only 5'5" and I pretty much only ride ebikes now, we would have never known what the large could handle.
Thanks for the awesome video today guys….. still trying to catch up with work and everything since we’ve been home after our guys vacation we had too much fun for too long now we’re paying for it ha ha ha and Cleveland is just seeing one storm after another so no bike riding anytime soon around here but hopefully it clears out soon😀😀👍👍
You can usually put a 29er wheelset on a 27.5 equipped bike (+ or - is going to depend on how wide the frame is). The rear is your biggest issue, the fork can be changed, the chain stays aren't changeable without a bunch of work. You will change the geometry either for the good or not so good. I've gone through "sticky" mud more than once and closing tire clearance on the fork is not an ideal option...
I have 2.5 on both front and rear with the American Classic tires Vulcinate on rear and tectonite on the front and it’s been awesome. Used to have the Schwalbe Magic Mary 2.6 on the front it worked fine but it was so heavy
GT Aggressor Pro is currently on sale @ DSG for $279.98!!! I ordered one on the last day of the $299.98 sale Thursday night. Noticed yesterday that the new sale price is $20 less! 👍
I tried a 29er on a large frame aggressor pro, it doesn't fit either. Chain stay is the same length I believe. I did put a new fork and wheel up front and turned it into a pretty capable mullet though! It rides awesome. Remind me of the viewer's rides email address?
I got me a GT agressor for 299, it's a steal! but I`m wondering if the 348 Mongoose Ardor is a better value on the long run considering the upgradability of it (tapered head tube, more agressive geometry),... any thougts?
It would've been cool to see the tires measured with calipers after you air them up. Vittorias are known to run a bit small. My 2.35 Mezcals measured closer to 2.28 on my bike.
yeah my 2.40 Maxxis Ardents measured 2.37 on front stock rim, I'm about to install the other tire on a new wheel i just bought for the rear which is about 4mm wider.
I got that same bike a couple weeks ago and went riding with my son and had a blast doing it but I was wondering are you going to be doing any upgrades to it
@wolftickvideos I'm about to pull the trigger on some new larger tires from Specialized while they're on sale. From this vid, a Butcher 2.6 on the front is a no brainer. I was going to go with the Purgatory 2.6 on the rear. Do you think the 2.3 would be a better choice? The 2.6 you test fit in this vid fit but was close but I don't think the knobbage 😉 on the Purgatory would extend out as far as the Barzo you test-fit...SO, I think the 2.6 will be fine. Thoughts? #wolfticknation (Oh, and my GT Aggressor Pro is a large.)
@wolftickvideos Just found your channel today and have been catching up on all of the GT Aggressor Pro vids. Loving them so far! Unless I missed something, this was the first upgrade to the "red" GT, correct? Plans on upgrades for the new "red" one similar to the upgrades to last blue GT?
Hey brother, similar yes. We got a 1x video coming up, keeping stock derailleur and shifter. Than maybe a new headset plus fork?? It's gonna be a fun one. Glad you found us and welcome to the #wolfticknation
I’m completely new to mountain biking. I’ve done plenty of bmx in my day, but I’m old and not as agile. I just purchased a GT Aggressor pro but I’m definitely wanting to switch it to a 1x would your recommendations for upgrades on the blue fit on the new 2022 model?
@WOLFTICKVIDEOS so can a 2.4 tire fit safely on the stock gt aggressor pro rim? Or is it too skinny? Will there be any issues like roll out or blow outs?
The problem with 29s are tire width is limited and if you're into wide fatty tires looks even a 2.5 on 35mm rim looks like a freakin 2.10s. It's like the first time you fit fat tires the tire it looks freakin fat but after a minute of staring at it then you'll ask your self again "this tire isn't enough"
am new to bicycles...i used to ride crossbykes like 20+ years ago. so i bought a gt aggressor pro during covid... i used it a few times. now the tires are flat they are 27.5... can anyone tell me whats the best psi.
Once you get a 1x on it you can get 27.5 x 2.4 my polygon premier 5 can handle 2.4 I think being said I run a fast rolling Victoria picante in 27.5x2.0
Grabbed some new ROCKBROS grips and FOOKER pedals for the GT Aggressor Pro during Amazon Prime Days. 👍I may have missed it on past vids but I don't remember you ever upgrading the saddle on the old GT Aggressor Pro. Any thoughts on that for the new one? 🤔 #wolfticknation
Jeremiah, did you wrestle in highschool/college? The ears tell a story lol what particular story I dont know. Edit lmao your wearing a Iowa wrestling shirt .
Man, that's a tough call. We actually spent $386 after discounts on our original Aggressor Pro back in 2019. We love it at $299, but anything over that is a tough call for us.
rim width needs to be big enough for a 2.8. I don't know the right width off the top of my head, my DH bike tires are too wide for the rim and causes more "tire roll" than I like. I run tubes.
Wolfman's got a point about the little "hairs" that stick out of the side of the tire. They won't overall stop the wheel from rolling or add any rolling resistance, they will scratch your paint off where they contact the stays tho
🤣Believe it or not, calling The Tick a walking talking vagina is the most politically correct way to say that he is acting like a little girl these days.😉🤷♂️😄

Specialized Hillbilly 2.6 on my 27.5 Specialized Pitch. Are on fleabay for 30 to 35 depending on T7 or T9. Little tight but man I love those tires.

@WOLFTICKVIDEOS so can a 2.4 tire fit safely on the stock gt aggressor pro rim? Or is it too skinny? Will there be any issues like roll out or blow outs?
