Contact lenses weren't even around during that time.
Contacts were around in the 60’s but they were uncomfortable and hard. Softer lenses came out in the mid 70’s

I have 7 degrees of myopia and 2 of astigmatism and without glasses I can't identify a face that's more than 3 feet away.
