We visited our friend Gabriele Lodi and his father Maurizio at their workshop in Carpi (Modena), Italy to talk guitars, and look at Lodi's incredible original Spanish instruments - Torres, Arias, Garcia, Simplicio. Special thanks to Gabriele.

'Liuteria Lodi' was founded in the early 1970s by brothers Leandro and Maurizio, who inherited woodworking skills from their father. Leandro's artistic talent and Maurizio's musical education culminated in their joint pursuit of guitar making. They began crafting classical guitars inspired by José Ramirez III, refining their techniques through collaborations with renowned luthiers like Alan Wilcox. Over the years, their workshop garnered acclaim for producing high-quality instruments using premium materials.
In the 1990s, their focus shifted to historical Spanish guitar craftsmanship, particularly the methods of Torres and early 20th-century Madrid builders. This exploration led to a deepening of their craft and a commitment to original construction techniques.
While Leandro concentrated on furniture restoration due to time constraints, Maurizio mentored his son Gabriele, ensuring continuity in the workshop's craftsmanship. Together, they expanded their expertise by restoring and studying historical guitars from different periods.
Today, "Luthieria Lodi" continues to uphold its tradition of excellence in crafting classical guitars, with Gabriele driving international visibility through promotional efforts at trade fairs. Their commitment to quality and tradition has earned them recognition among musicians and collectors worldwide.
