I love living in northern Maine nice and quiet and for someone who spent 20 years in the Marine Corps I don’t like being around a lot of people and I like being around the outdoors off the grid
I love northern Maine. However, after suffering some significant health issues, that's probably the worst region to live for healthcare. Northern Light, (formerly EMMC) in Bangor is the closest hospital for conditions necessitating any form of interventional surgery for a stroke or heart attack. So, yes, northern Maine is a nice and quiet place to live. But, I wouldn't recommend the northern region for anyone with serious health issues.
@@livinginsouthernmaine It was Mass before it was Maine. Born and raised in the county, I don't much miss it, prefer western Mass. BTW Washington county isn't "up north" it's down east. Madawaska is "up north"
And cumberland county . NY and Oregon.. and all up the coast is the same. Woke ville now. No independent thinking. Just drink the progressive Kool aid or be shunned. I have lived in Maine 40 years and what was a once sleepy proud new England state is now ny Conn or Oregon .. I challenge anyone to even find someone that knows wat saying cah vs car or lobstah vs lobster meant... Cause we all sound like valley girl talk now.
Another bait & switch realtor offering. I’ve seen a number of these click-bait promos from different Maine (and NH) outfits. And they’re usually coastal community boosters, excuse me coastal realtors, at heart. The title to the video is, well, like this one, “Why I left Maine, etc.”, only to discover one or two minutes in that your guide is in fact a realtor who wants to sell you property in, where else, Maine! I saw the kiss of death, in terms of true intentions, at the 1:54 mark here, when our guide says he makes his videos with his daughter, who, surprise, is a local realtor. Then, switching, the emphasis shifts, and he’s really telling us why he leaves the state he loves “for a few months every year.” And the down low, as if we already didn’t know, is Maine isn’t for you If you don’t like winter. Enough. You get the picture. It’s really an advertisement for the state, and their business; and what they really want the viewer to do is Buy! - while the bait of the title of their video suggests just the opposite. Viewer beware.
I am from Androscoggin County. I have recently lived in York and Cumberland County and like someone said it's Northern Massachusetts. I now live in Penobscot county because it was getting to crowded. I was able to do that because I just retired and don't have to have a job anymore, because everyone here knows it is difficult to find a job.
Electric Bills are outrageous.....we barely put any lights on and the bill is on average is 200 dollars a month......and ticks are everywhere, in your lawn and on the dirt trails......lets talk Lyme disease ........other than that its a great place like any other
I relocated from Conwy in Wales UK, to Maine, near Conway US, 13 years ago and I LOVE it! Like my home town in Wales, I am surrounded by countryside, mountains and lakes, unlike my home town there are no endless green fields full of lambs & daffodils and there are no castles. I love rural life, I enjoy having plenty of outdoor space to grow veggies and walk my pups. I can wander outside in my pj's with my morning coffee and watch the ducks and the loon's on the lake, my pups can wander freely, I can light a campfire and snuggle up under a blanket with a good book, listening to the chipmunks and the squirrels running around. I can watch the boaters or I can head out on my boat or my kayak or my paddleboard. I enjoy the peace & quiet, I enjoy my own company and more than anything, I enjoy NOT having neighbours too close by. I can watch the sun rise and set and I can see the stars because unlike the towns, the lack of streetlights means the skies are clearer. In winter, I get to snuggle up in front of a log fire, watch the ice fishers out on the frozen lake. Sure, there's a lot of snow over winter that has to be cleared and yes it can get cold, but that just makes it all the more joyous when Spring kicks in. Nothing is perfect, but for me, Maine is close to perfect, all I need is fields of spring lambs and the odd castle and then it would be perfect :)
I'm from Bedford UK but live in Lancaster NH now but was in Maine for a while. Driving around it literally reminded me of Wales, except it's filled with trees round here. It's absolutely stunning up here ❤
@@SoulHealerHolisticCenter what I've always found nice about the area is the variation in geography, you can be in the white mountains one morning and drive out to the Coast, take a ferry over to the tip of Cape Cod, and find yourself amidst the great sand dunes. And back to the mountains for bedtime if you'd like
@SmedlyButler-cq5iq yes! There are so many things to do here. I can't believe that snowboarding and skiing are offered at the schools up here, and my youngest plays on sleds during recess. We never had that at school. Summer is brilliant with trails, hitting the lakes etc. I love it here
1970 - 1979 Bangor Maine got 752 inches of snow 2010 - 2019 Bangor Maine got 830 inches of snow It is not snowing less People love to just make up these climate change "facts"
@@boston1450What are you talking about? ... Why are you repeating the lie that it snows less than the 60s/70s? I literally just looked up the data ... It is not snowing less, if anything it is actually snowing more. Look up the data for your own city ... You people are weird
I don't want to derail the good video on this topic, but I see the opposite here in NYC-LI area. "OMG it's so hot!" Yeah, it's always been hot and had droughts and forest fires; much of Long Island was a pine barren. We have indeed had a few records (especially "70 degree day in November") type records, but I go crazy when I hear people talking not stop about climate change when we have absolutely normal 90 degree summer days. Not sure why people suddenly expect forever-mild England style weather Sorry just needed to rant about transplants who don't even know what normal weather is or was like in downstate NY, now declaring it's worst than ever. Quite the opposite in some ways - we've have surprisingly few horrible hurricanes in recent decades. Worst hurricane in modern history was all the way back in 1938 ** caveat being the weather pattern of no rain and higher than average temps that repeated non-stop until late November. Time will tell if that was "weather" or "climate" since short term it is "only" weather but if it keeps happening it will indeed be climate.
I'm not part of the climate crazies crowd but something is up with the weather and personally I think it's a natural cycle but I live 40 miles north of bangor and it's not the same as it was in the 70's 80's as a kid and have pictures to prove it...We might be getting snow but not the Temps to sustain it..
@@ericallen8263 After looking into the historical details you are correct ... Bangor Maine was colder in the 1970s than the 2010s. However the warmest decade on record was the 1930s. Interesting. I will list the average temperatures by decade below 1930 - 1939 = 58.38 1970 - 1979 = 52.67 2010 - 2019 = 55.48
I am born and raised in Maine. I have watched snow amounts drop. When I was a kid it was snowing in October. Snow half way up the telephone poles. Maybe inland is getting more snow than the coast. But it has changed significantly.
Maine has😅 very long winters. I love living in maine. But Its expensive cost of living and rural living takes getting used to. One draw back about living in maine is the limited resources and severe lack of medical providers, veterinarians accepting new patients is difficult to find for our increasing population.
Omg I just texted a long comment and an ad came on and deleted it all ,WHYYYYY DOES THIS HAPPEN? Does anyone know how to stop that ? I'd be very thankful to find out ,thank u ,I might text it all out again ,right now I'm to upset..Maine us beautiful and New Hampshire is also ....for a born and raised woman from Massachusetts, Damm that ready pissed me off lol could be worse
@@FloridaCatholicGuy It was 15 degree last night in southern Maine, southern a misnomer for the US, but appropriate for Canada. Do you have room for two frozen guests? I can't stand no more.
Your assessment of Maine is on point for the most part. My only different thought is there is no way I would want to spend any time in Florida. I have visited there a number of times and saw absolutely nothing that interested me. A flat, over built, boring state with boring beaches and wall to wall highways and strip malls. I'll take any number of beaches in the Caribbean over Florida's beaches any day. There is a lot to do during the Winter in Maine, all kinds of activities and events. Like any other state, if you live in "rural" areas you have farther to go to get to things. Maine is no different. I have visited many other states, Maine is paradise compared to most from what I'vs seen.
There is no perfect place. You just have to identify where you want to live and make the best of it. There will be disappointments no matter where you live.
It really comes down to how you want to live. I live in central Maine, north of Augusta. My husband and i moved to AZ and lived there for 10 years. He passed away, and i came home. AZ was a culture shock. I didn't care for city living. Everything is on top of each other. I liked the weather most times. Here in Maine, You can live in the southern area and have the city life. The more north you go, the quieter it gets. Winters are harsh and very cold. It really depends on how you want to live. I love my privacy and secluded way of life at my age. As for the tick population, you just need to learn about them and protect yourself. It's no worse than dealing with scorpions, black widows, ants, and roaches. Every state has its ups and downs. I found out that im a true Mainer and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Lived here all our life an make a fair living selling campfire wood in so Maine to campers and campgrounds . After the summer rush is over we head north to get away for a bit . We also do the UA-cam thing twice a week .
Southern Maine is not my Maine. Love it here and when we go south, I can't wait to get the hell out and go home. I don't lock my doors and sit in traffic or pay ridiculous pricing. Most of my relatives live in Boston and they can keep it. Paying to park my car or to go through a tunnel pay ridiculous rent not my cup of tea. 5 bucks for a ten-cent coffee and they live a shorter life according to the statistics. I also think you are much wealthier than the average Mainer, so you have more options then most not nocking you. You didn't get they're by sitting on your ass now that's some Maine talk right there. Good videos have a great day.
I have lived in Maine all my life and absolutely love it here. It is quiet, has 4 seasons and very very nice people who mind their own business but help when needed. Whenever I leave the state I experience culture shock- the garbage along the highways, urban sprawl and bill boards do not exist in Maine. The terrible summer traffic is in the southerly most tip of the state- York County ( which is not the most populated as you assert, Cumberland County is) Most Mainers live north of York to experience the calm culture of this state- we avoid that whole area in the summer, knowing it is where most of the tourists are and instead prefer to vacation at family owned lake-side camps. The crime rate is extremely low here and we are fine with the winter keeping anyone who can’t handle a shovel- away. I’ve been to Florida… and am always so glad to come home to Maine.
i moved from the swamps of southern ga . last dec. 3 i could not agree more as for the loving maine its amazing happy holidays good morning and have a amazing day its cold and beautiful

Moved to oxford york county line near NH border 6 years ago I love it, couldnt afford a place on the lake but i bought on a state road at junction of another state road with atv/snowmobile trail on edge of property its great (other than cmp electric co. buy a generator youll need it!) the state dot plows the roads. If your buying here and gonna stay year round Id definitely reccommend living on a maine road plowed and maintained by the state its a huge difference compared to the side roads
I Lived in Beautiful Waldoboro, Maine, and I miss it; I owned an 1850 Shipbuilders home, where they built the very first 5-Masted Schooner in the U.S, right behind the home; The Governor Ames in 1888, went out to sea from right behind the home.
As someone from Mass (please don't start throwing rocks) I just sold a cabin in the woods in western Maine after 18 years. I love the state and have been going up there for since the 1980's, camping and hiking around Moosehead Lake and Baxter SP. We were considering retiring in Maine, but now that the wife and I are in our sixties and now retired, we decided to bail on the harsh winters. Planning to relocate to a warmer climate from Mass, but definitely not interested in Florida. Looking into the Ozarks in MO/AR, maybe southern Utah.
great video. ive been living in maine since 2022 and visiting since 2018. winters can be long and boring but also cozy and charming depending on how you see it.
I grew up in Sanford. If you don’t like Maine…leave. It’s just that simple. Maine is home. It will always be home. Time moves on and things change. There’s nowhere better, just different.
I feel stuck in NYC but love when I get away to hike in the exact cloudy cool weather in pine forests exactly like you're walking in in the beginning. That's my version of Heaven on Earth! Especially with the pink haze between 3-5PM in the sky
We Hunted Black Bear in Eustace Maine. I believe the guide's last name is Cody. Had a Great Time, was a laid-back atmosphere. Enjoyed it's beauty and calmness of the outdoors. A Great place to Visit, and hunt. Remember the Drive in Moose wallows and Tail gating of local families, which was fun to experience. To say it was the inland Drive-in movies, I'd rather see the wallows. The stories of moose and bear on what to do and not to do on and off the road. My first coyote experience and wildlife. People were friendly and enjoyed the trip entirely.
My mother was born and reared in Maine, moved to California when she was 24 and she said she loved visiting Maine, but would never move back because of the winters.
Had my first legal drink at the Old Village Inn at 2:28. My family moved out of Wells a century ago. They arrived in 1600s. If they haven't been worn away, you can probably find more than a few Jellisons at the cemeteries.
Growing up around Lake George, NY my family always loved vacationing in beautiful Maine, especially Wells and Bar Harbor. We love all the quaint villages and outdoor activities. I've lived in NY, MD, PA and now TN. I will always love New England and the ADK Mountains, but we're happiest in TN and people are so much nicer. Cost of living is cheaper too. I sometimes see comments where people say that people are the same everywhere. That has not been my experience. Don't get me wrong, I've known many wonderful Northerners, but people in the South are so much more welcoming and kind. We were shocked when we first relocated 6 yrs ago at the difference in our lives living here. We're so much happier. We'd definitely love though if we could have a vacation cottage in Wells or Ogunquit. We miss going, but it's too far away so we usually go to FL.
I love coming up the house in Wells during the Winter. By August you need a hooded sweatshirt on the beach and in October - windshield and you can enjoy the quiet and sun. After over 60 years in Wells, we know all the back roads during the Summer and where to go. Plus, being a year rounder (part time) get some consideration into restaurants in Summer
For the summer only and fall 🍁 that's it because that's all thare is we barely get much snow anymore to go skiing snowmobiling it's all fading away and China buying up all the farm land up in Maine China owns the most land in Maine and all the land they buy is all next to millatery bases whats up whith this what's the government doing about this
lol frustration of traffic and then panning to ogunquit is spot on. Feel like that intersection is the sole reason for traffic from Wells to the border of Kittery in the summer. Insightful video 👍
Dude, I live in Wells! My wife's job suddenly transferred us here 3 years ago, and it's been a HELL of a culture shock from southern Connecticut. Is there any good Chinese buffet within 20 miles?
@eugenewalton7336 Um....yeah. Wholly disappointing. Even the kids didn't like it after Chinese food in Connecticut, Fitchburg, Worcester, and Canadian Nagara Falls. Honestly wonder if they're even trying around here.
Southern and Mid Coast Maine is a wonderful place to live. And by the way, the food and local restaurants can be terrific and affordable. Health care is ok but Boston and Portland are not that far away. The locals tend to be somewhat provincial but it is a purple start by and large. Personally, I found the summer heat in Florida and the South much more restrictive and keep you house bound a lot more than the winter cold in Maine. And the boating in Maine from having a row boat to a larger boat is incomparable.
@@bertrambertram9173 where is food affordable? I ain't eating at mickeys every day. Purple my ass. This effn place is beyond blue. Biggest reason I'm getting the eff out of here. Don't bullshit a bigger bullshitter.
I was born and raised in Maine. I did live in upper NY for a few years as a kid, and then in Mass in my 20’s. Maine is no different than any other state. Winters are long, taxes are high and there is very little sunlight. I would leave except the family is here. But I’d love to live in a warmer climate at my age,
Tourists here are minimal compared to FL which is infested with them. I will totally disagree with you about affordability- I have saved on moving to Maine with my insurance on home and auto. Florida is crowded, green all the time, hot, humid and a traffic nightmare...let us not forget the higher insurance rates, property tax and groceries in FL. It is better to rent for a week or 2 in FL if you need the warm, but FL is a cesspool of strip malls and privileged drifters. I am so glad that once I retired from FL that I was able to move to ME and enjoy 4 seasons-the same season for over 30+ years(in FL) gets monotonous. ME needs to bring medical and tech jobs and not more tourism which pays a pittance
Wilderness survival living a ool snow plowing activities for 9 to 10 months out of the year! Car rust from fridges temperatures and salted roadways. But its one of the Most beautiful places in the United States
😂 FLORIDA.. your joking? I live in Weston Florida and the heat and humidity is so bad you can not leave your home.. think of it as the same effect as cold and snow.. you are trapped inside. ,, my advice go where the weather is mild year round. Or at least not as severe as far north and far south
I'm from Maine also... I had to move away due to what I consider an economic exile. Why don't you talk about the state of the political landscape of southern Maine being transformed into a leftist-haven colloquially known as Northern Massachusetts? The idiotic ramp-up of taxes, rents, and the wage-stagnation created there from decades of Massachusetts invasion, camping-in on the town councils, thus creating an unaffordable hell-scape of my home. If you're really trying do a service for the state, start outing those who bring these practices, and FIGHT against the corruption.
minute 12 :) the guy is not digging clams right! The right way is to clomp around on the mud flats looking for annoyed clams to squirt back at you to clear their feeding holes. Then you dig them up with a 5 bladed fork like shovel saving your back. Never try to dig with the type of rake in the video as your back will ache... Lewis from Cape Cod.
Sir, most people have just like where I live in South Carolina, and misinformed view of what it's like to live here. I think they have what I call a Hanna Barbera Warner Brothers Disney Carfoon reality worldview. They view the world 🌎 through rose 🌹 colored eye 👓 glasses! Aka very naive, they haven't done their due diligence, and when what they think 🤔 and the reality does reconcile many still move forward in a state of denial.
And yes, you or folks a bit more well off than others, will have a different view of Maine vs locals. Now I will say, this is likely to be the case not matter what state you live in albeit a bit more in Maine. By the way, your video is well done and not slamming Maine to much:) Amine is what it is, because Mainers want it this way. If you don't like Maine, get on 95 and head south. If you don't like Maine in the winter, head south, like many folks do, this way you get to have the best of both worlds. I'm from NY but have been in Maine for most of my live now and love it. I do travel a fair amount, and can say, we have visited many other states and cites and some we like a lot and would have considered moving to years ago, but now, we'll stay here and most days have a big smile on our face for doing so. Travel when every possible is a great way to love Maine but get away when you've had enough, plus this allows you to see how the rest of the country is and lives, there are some wonderful places in this great country of ours, get out and enjoy them.
What is vanlife like in Maine? I was there for a few days in a van I had rented for a week to travel throughout New England but it was after Columbus Day and everything was or was about to be shut down. I would really love to come back in the late spring or early autumn to avoid the crowds and the bugs that I've heard so much about in the summer months.
Your worried about out of state people .what do you think you get in Florida. Seems you enjoy more populated areas. More people. Have family in Florida but you can't compare the two. It's like comparing summer to winter. Who ever says it's just northern Boston is completely out of touch with the two. It's completely different especially during the winter. ITS LIKE this. Some people grow tired of. Having tk deal with the cold and shoveling and having to travel. Eather you want to be around lots of people or you simply want the peace an quiet or simple way of living snd want all 4 seasons maine is great. If you want longer summer then yeah go to Florida. But but the 2 are opposites. Home is where u make it. All I know is with the way the world is going right now. I'd seek a place that isn't highly congested with people the warmer it is the more people you will find. If not today then surly on the future more will come.
I lived in Buxton. The ⛄️🤦🏼 it was relentless. My bus would show up with chains on the tires. It’s a great state overall. We camped on Long and Sebago Lake as a kid. Great times. Old Orchard Beach was great. Had a blueberry 🫐 patch at the end of my driveway and picked them up yesterday the bucket 😊 Lobster 🦞 I do wish they had more public land for boondocking in my Rv. Lots of private land and owned by logging companies. I would consider it again but I’d be a snow bird for the winter 😂 Funny I have a video on my UA-cam page about our trip to Maine. I titled it Maine the way life should be 😂
As a born and raised and I still live in Maine I take offense to you saying we hate our Ghost Towns... piff. We actually ❤ when the tourists leave so we can have our Roads less congested again. As for Maine Winters piff just grab ur Cannabis or Liquor of choice and enjoy real Mainer's getting rowdy 😂.
Bought land in central maine just south of Bangor. Already have a nosy neighbor and boundary issues. He just can't see the boundary marker in front of his own eyes. People are the same everywhere. And try to get a survey at the courthouse here. An attorney is in my future.
Southern Minnesota is mostly rural farmland and small towns. Nothing like Southern Maine. Not sure where the tourists would go in Mn except maybe lake cabins in summer ?
Love Maine in spring, summer and fall. Have a cottage on the coast that we bought in 1995 and its still a 3 season cottage. Taxes have only increased $200.00 in 41 years. How can you beat that! We get to enjoy the ocean, dinning and lifestyle that I could not get on Cape Cod. The locals are the best, though I'm not accepted as a local but they do watch out for us and our property. Best decision I ever made. Now my children and grandkids can enjoy this place long after I'm gone.
As a northern NYer I fell in love with Maine, but felt guilty looking to retire there because people from Massachusetts have taken over and unfortunately, with all respect, their attitudes have also. I feel bad for native Mainers and don’t want to be considered the reason why everything has skyrocketed in price. I still have years before I make a move, but NY is like California part 2 and it’s becoming too expensive.
I disagree about job opportunities, at least for blue collar people. We have an extreme need for talent. In my area electricians are booked for a year ahead. Same with plumbers, contractors, and so on. Admitting housing is a challenge but the work is there
The beauty of (Central Maine area), is you are about an hour or so away from the mountains to the ocean. Should you need to do some serious shopping, there is Portland / Freeport and Conway, NH are all close enough to be happy.
I married my late wife back in 1997 she was from the St.John valley Frenchville, anyway after we got married we moved to Maine from my home state of Kansas. Anyway we had two sons our oldest son was diagnosed with severe autism. My wife died at the age of 45 just shy her 46th bithday in 2016.
I've lived in maine for many years and love it. Out of staters are bothersome, but we need the tourist revenue. Just glad theyre not here year round . Janet Mills, on the other hand, has let homelessness and drugs run wild here.
My work was seasonal so back in the late 70s I started spending my winters in the Philippines where the living was less expensive. Maine is one of the best states to live in except for the winters. Bad weather an no work in the winters. San Luis Obispo has the best weather in north America but it isn't good living.
I have lived in southern Maine for over 30 years. I came from southern New Hampshire on the Massachusetts border. Southern Maine is becoming Massachusetts. Woke, crowded and yes there are no people in the trades here. No plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc. that is unless you are loaded.
My wife and I are senior citizens. We’ve lived in rural Pennsylvania for 20 years and then moved closer to town on a few acres. surrounded by hundreds of acres of farmland and trees lined we were looking at main because our daughter is in Massachusetts. How is Southern Maine for senior citizens? We’re not interested in anything HOA no condos no townhomes. We would prefer at least 10 acres with a house built after 2003
I spent my whole life in Southern Maine and its beautiful however 30 years ago all the refugees from Mass invaded and brought their voting habits with them. Now the Taxes have skyrocketed the locals cant afford the houses anymore and the Massholes keep electing Libtards like Governor Mills. It become unbearable to live with all the taxes regulations and lack of jobs. My beautiful state has been ruined by the Massholes. Natural disasters are rare the biggest disasters in Maine are the Massholes. 10Years ago I fled to Georgia and it was the best move ive ever made.
Too many seasonal poeple have bought houses and then go south closing the towns. We used to be year round communities. And we no longer have the close communities everyone is from away without the Maine ethics we were brought up with
Let us not forget if you go clamming you must pay for it. You must have a license to do so. Clamming is not always an option due to red tide. You cannot legally go and dig clams. You cannot just go on your boat and pull up lobster or crab traps. It takes years to be able to do that. All freshwater lakes and ponds require a license if you fish. Some saltwater fishing requires a license. Tuna fishing requires a license. It's expensive, I think. That should be mentioned as well as other things. If you go swimming on the coast, make sure you know where the undertows are. People are stupid about that sometimes and lose their life because of it. You cannot hunt here without a license. Everything you do requires a license and most places do not allow tiny houses. Only a few towns allow them. Just saying. People can legally carry concealed weapons here. Most people have guns here. They do not brag about it but most outside the cities have them and I am pretty sure they are in the cities too. Not much crime here. We did have a mass shooting in Lewiston awhile back. I believe that was the first and only one. I hope it never happens again. I feel so sad for the families. Terrible. Some people here are not nice and are hard to get to know. Taxes are bad here. Prices are high. Yes you can find very cheap real estate here but if it's that cheap be checking the foundation. Be smart about it. I do not live in Southern Maine and I don't know what they do there anymore. I did live on an Island off the coast or Portland growing up. Island life is like a soap opera. Not thanks. I worked in the seafood industry. I am a lifer here in Maine. I would never leave the gorgeous state. It has it's issues like any other state except population. Summer people do not bother me. I know we need them here. Most Mainers do. I stay away from high tourist areas. Southern is little Boston. Northern is it's own world. I would never live in Portland.
I just read that ME tourism is down 9% in 2024. My husband and I moved our boys to Bangor 5 years ago. Just bought a house 30 min north. Northern ME is way different than Southern Maine. Some of us want to feel a little isolated. Society has been getting pretty sketchy these days.
Maine is an unaffordable place to live now. I'm an eleventh generation Native Mainer. People like me and my family are being squized out by people swarming in here from elsewhere.
Please go visit where you want to live before committing. Visit in July or august. My late husband and I just uprooted and moved to AZ. It's a very big culture shock. Don't expect the same food as here. Weather is nice except it gets Hot as hell in the summer. Housing is very expensive out west. There's a lot of crime. A lot of major car accidents. Plan on spending a lot of money on pest control. Ants, scorpions, black widows, and roaches are a big problem. These states you mention do have their good points, too. Just please research and go visit for a couple of weeks. I moved back to Maine after my husband passed and even though I Hate winter, I appreciate the way of life here and regret moving out west. It was a big mistake.
How very timely, as folks with relocation on the Mind; begin or continue evaluating states! Previously to this et al I’ve been in this process for three years; two years less than my last Relo from my Native State of CA to North Texas; Late December 2020. Having “some experience” (3 years in MN!) in Wintertime, even at 78, I Could still Do the tasks required in Winter. As for “Ticks”? NO! I do Not do Ticks, especially after my Relo from San Diego; My Native birthplace, to San Francisco and Thom’s Natural, where I had been Recruited to help manage. Viewer beware.
there are two Maines the I95 corridor to the east which is mainly transplanted out of staters then the real Mainers live north and west of 95

Not sure why people suddenly expect forever-mild England style weather
Sorry just needed to rant about transplants who don't even know what normal weather is or was like in downstate NY, now declaring it's worst than ever. Quite the opposite in some ways - we've have surprisingly few horrible hurricanes in recent decades. Worst hurricane in modern history was all the way back in 1938
** caveat being the weather pattern of no rain and higher than average temps that repeated non-stop until late November.

I'll take any number of beaches in the Caribbean over Florida's beaches any day. There is a lot to do during the Winter in Maine, all kinds of activities and events. There is no perfect place. You just have to identify where you want to live and make the best of it. There will be disappointments no matter where you live.
Yup, you got it!
Usually due to people behaving poorly.
Maine is brutal to live in during the winter, but it is still one of the safest places to live.

That was well done! I always enjoyed the off season rates right on the ocean and very few tourist on the beach.
Evereyone is not the same, Im not leaving
I have lived in southern Maine for over 30 years. I came from southern New Hampshire on the Massachusetts border. Southern Maine is becoming Massachusetts. Woke, crowded and yes there are no people in the trades here. No plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc.
that is unless you are loaded.
"Woke" is nothing other than community engagement in Maine. We won't miss you
There's five states in "Maine " and they're all very different.
Nice. Ty. I’m looking for a camp off grid in the next five years.
Maines been ruined. Are way if life has turned into Mass New York and its woke. Many sadly want a revolution.
We would prefer at least 10 acres with a house built after 2003
It sounds like you actually live in Northern Massachusetts. Summer tourism is much less of an issue if you live in Maine.
Ticks
Bug spray!
Connecticut is like Maine with the ticks.
We visited Maine in April. Love the state but we were so cold. Awesome food made it worth it.
The taxes I hear are outrageous. I would go north. Where I could homesteading, chickens and cows.
Ive already planned in 5 years iam leaving new hampshire for warmer weather AZ/NM/CA.
I live in Canada... in a Honda Odyssey
Not many bridges but a ton of rivers
Is that Paul with you in that clamming picture? I remember your business in Kennebunk.
That was Paul alright. That reminds me, I need to get him in another video. Did you know he moved to Ogunquit?
My dude, comparing Maine vacation traffic to San Francisco seems extreme
I've been to San Francisco several times. Sitting in traffic regardless of what state we are doing it in, isn't fun.
Massachusetts "North" I know !! 😆🤣
Semper Fi
How very timely, as folks with relocation on the Mind; begin or continue evaluating states! Previously to this et al I’ve been in this process for three years; two years less
than my last Relo from my Native State of CA to North Texas; Late December 2020.
Having “some experience” (3 years in MN!) in Wintertime, even at 78, I Could still
Do the tasks required in Winter. As for “Ticks”? NO! I do Not do Ticks, especially
after my Relo from San Diego; My Native birthplace, to San Francisco and Thom’s
Natural, where I had been Recruited to help manage. We Had One Tick encounter;
within a harmless Stop in our travel having arrived within Northern California, and
which said Tick incident discouraged Me from Ever again Camping Outside; at least
in regions known to harbor Ticks!
Alas! Maine seems to be, in its way, the "Washington State" of New England.
