    The first time I have actually seen the Damper 'o' ring described on a video. This is an especially valuable as the Official Triumph Workshop manual neglects this part of the carb. I guess the old saying...'A picture is worth a thousand words is accurate.Thankyou.

      that saying 'A picture is worth a thousand words', so true. Video is a thousand pictures coming at ya. Should be a quote about that somewhere.

    This is great. My partner just bought a 1500 spitfire and I think it’s leaking carb oil. This helps me understand what is happening and how to fix it. Thank you for taking the time to make this video!

    This is an awesome tutorial ,many thanks for this:)
    I just spotted this while doing mine,the damper cap has a manufacturing vertical line (visible in your vid)
    that matches one on the carb body to align the two.
    Likely makes no diff ,but may ensure air damper piston is free in sleeve:)

    I learned a lot from this video. Although I don't have a English sportscar, this knowledge is useful for my Mercedes 230 1977 with Stromberg carb. ( and now I want a British sportcar next to my MB after seeing this kind of videos,...)

    3:56 There's the pin John Twist mentioned in his instructions. I was adjusting mine and thought I was doing something wrong because the whole body was moving in and out instead of just the needle. Before I go any further I'm going to make sure the retention pin is in my needle valve assembly. (The manual or tuning instructions make no mention of it or depict it in the diagrams!) Thank you so much for posting this!!!!

      Spitbits, British Parts North West (aka BPNW), Joe Curto, and some others in the UK, their out there helping us keep them on the road. Be advised as these OEM parts taken off the shelf are used up, other mfg'ers are trying to make something to replace them, not all are good at doing that, even the parts houses are finding their parts lacking quality. Ebay has some sellers buying parts in the UK, some of those also lacked quality too.

    I'm working on a 1971 tr6 two carbs. one piston on the carb is very heavy when you lift it up?
    is this right or should they be the same resistance
    thank you

    • @dadcolo
      @dadcolo  5 років тому

      same resistance. You don't give us a clue which carbs your asking about. If they have the top with the screw cap check the oil levels, same oil should be used for both.

    Hi Calvin. Can you tell why the same Stromberg 150 CD4T carb uses different needles ?. Needle BIDL is to 1977 cars, Needle 45 L is for 1977 cars, and 45 N is for 1978 on cars ?. Thank you

      I can not say I know what Leyland (Triumph) was actually thinking, but I can speculate: California was changing the EPA regulations, fuel usage was being restricted to meet the requirements. Elevation could also be involved in requiring the needle dimension changes. That could be addressed on the Triumph Spitfire & GT6 forum on the web.

      What happens then if I use a BIDL neddle instead of a 45 N ?. The engine could not work properly ?. thank you very much.

    • @dadcolo

      Roland, you need to measure the size of the B1DL and the 45N to see if the difference will allow more or less fuel to the engine. I suspect the B1DL would allow more fuel to the engine.

    does dampener oil disappear or does it burn off? Thanks Calvin

    • @dadcolo
      @dadcolo  7 років тому +1

      If the oil is not leaking out around the top, I think it is sucked past the small O ring into the carb, then burnt with the fuel.

      Calvin G. Williams thanks Calvin is extremely helpful as it turns out we did rebuild on the carburetors one of the two things we didn’t replace with those inner oh rings I’m wondering if that’s the problem your videos are terrific thanks again

      If the "O" ring is damaged, split or cracks, the oil escapes through the damaged area. Something I didn't mention in the vid, I read that the large rubber diaphragm can develop pin holes sometime, and gently stretching it (with a light behind it) will show them. Too much stretch on old ones can tear from the hole. If this is a daily driver have a new diaphragm on hand when you check the old one.
