I second that. He comes across as very natural, and down to earth. It's a nice contrast to the PGS guy, who seems like he's trying to be cool, and reading from a script at the same time.
I've had this pedal for almost 10 years and I still loved seeing the demo. :) It's the best chorus pedal I've used, which kinda kills me since it's a $100 boss pedal among a bunch of my other $200+ boutique pedals. :) But, use what works and this pedal rocks!
This. It attenuates the signal a bit when not engaged, but this is the best sounding chorus to my ears. (or actually ch2 would be awesomeness, but it doesn't have the controls if I wanted to mellow the effect a little). Maybe I'll put all my pedals into a switcher/looper some day =)
So I bought one of these today based on this video. The distorted/chorus sound you’re getting is a classic. It’s so exactly right I’m going to sell my tc electronic chorus+ modulation and flanger. So funny I had rather have this overlooked Boss pedal. Thank you, Don!
I love how shimmery this chorus pedal can get. I have the super chorus and I've had it for a year. But I've never been able to get the sound that I want out of it. Seeing this review and the chorus ensemble in action, really makes me wish this was me chorus pedal I got
So let me get this straight - the Filters should be set to Max to retain your amps bass/treble as they are set. If you roll the Filters back (cut) then you start lowering the bass and/or treble?
Thanks for the review...I have a Roland JC 90 combo amp that sounds absolutely killer with its chorus effect in stereo, but otherwise leaves a lot to be desired compared to my tube amps. I've been looking to get a chorus to throw onto my pedal board for use with my single 12" speaker Blackstar HT Studio 20 combo amp...can this pedal do the trick giving a semblance of that killer chorus sound or do I really need to think about getting a 2 x 12 to run my board stereo with some of the effects I have like my TC After Ego X4 delay and others like phaser, flanger and rotary vibe...which stereo chorus effect pedal would get me that lush JC sound? The hunt is on!
Hi, MTL. Thanks for your question. Part of the secret sauce with the JC amps is the dual amps assigned to each speaker, which give you a true stereo chorus. We have a lot of great pedals, but none of them will give you the same spread and dimension as your Roland. You need two amps to match that open, lush sound. As far as pedals, the Boss WAZA chorus and dimension pedals are great, as is the Julia from Walrus Audio: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CE2W--boss-ce-2w-waza-craft-chorus-pedal www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DC2W--boss-dc-2w-waza-craft-dimension-c-pedal www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JuliaChorus--walrus-audio-julia-analog-chorus-vibrato-pedal Please contact me direct if I didn't answer your question accurately. Hi, Nestor. That pedal will work great with an acoustic. It has a versatile set of controls so you should be able to dial in the exact sound you're looking for. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Hey, Paolo. Thanks for reaching out about the Boss CE-5 Stereo Chorus pedal! This is a Modulation based effect and Reverb is a Time-Based effect, so you won’t be able to get any Reverb out of this pedal. It’s specifically designed for Chorus, but Boss does have a great Reverb pedal in the RV-6 and you can check that out here: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RV6--boss-rv-6-digital-reverb-pedal If you have any other questions feel free to get in touch! Thanks and have a great day. Jack Wellington, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3240, jack_wellington@sweetwater.com
It'll 'get through a huge gob of distortion' - right I'm in 😁. Seriously though, this pedal sounds good on the moderate speed settings. Never bonded with chorus built into modelling amps, not enough adjustment/settings - the CE-5 seems very versatile. Edit: Bought this pedal used. I finally get what a chorus pedal brings to the table. This pedal adds that certain something, the versatility beats the built in chorus of modelling amp hands down.
Hi, OP! Thanks for your message, hope you're well and safe. The filters act as High and Low shelving EQs to contour the frequency response of the Chorus. Not your dry signal. Makes the effect darker/brighter. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Robert Williams, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 2371, robert_williams@sweetwater.com
I though the primary purpose of chorusing was to make a stereo signal out of mono. Tremolo does volume modulation, vibrato does frequency modulation. Chorus does left and right channel modulation to build the stereo presence, yes or no? I mean, one of the main selling points for the Roland D-50 was stereo chorus. Monophonic chorus is like monophonic reverb. What the heck? Sure, I understand that the Chorus Ensemble indeed can transform a monophonic guitar into a stereophonic instrument. But the guy in this video uses single output of this pedal... It's like using Small Clone. Sure, some shimmering gets introduced, but zero spaciousness.
Totally agree. I'm experimenting with the stereo chorus pedal signal going through the PA to add that really huge stereo shimmer, with my guitar amp sound sat in the middle. Sounds great in rehearsals.
Most stereo chorus pedals are in fact a wet/dry vibrato effect. When run in stereo, you get dry signal from one output and pitch modulation (vibrato) from the other output. When run in mono, those are summed. Chorus effect evolved from Rotary Speaker cabinets. Leslie. A *true stereo* chorus is the Maxon ASC-10. It flips the phase on the two outputs.
Here ya go CE-5 explained: ua-cam.com/video/uT79nLb5Iog/v-deo.html How to use Vibrato as Chorus in a wet/dry rig: ua-cam.com/video/KmFL_9g7nco/v-deo.html
My spring reverb tank in my amp isn't stereo, mate. Anyway, wet/dry is better than stereo. Live soundguys hate stereo rigs, for good reason. Wet/Dry/Wet is the best of all possible worlds.
@@davidcastellanos881 Shame, I think its a good pedal, just very quiet, I think chorus is just an effect that any pedal can achieve, I have it now, I feel too lazy to trade it for something else, there is depth knob I think, but it jus get to normal, no extra deep,
Those are stereo outputs. If you want to use the pedal normally you just use the A output, I'll be making use of the stereo functionality in my setup because I can, but it's not necessary.
I like this guys straightforward demonstration method, he actually lets you hear all the options. I wish all pedal reviews were like this.
I second that. He comes across as very natural, and down to earth. It's a nice contrast to the PGS guy, who seems like he's trying to be cool, and reading from a script at the same time.
danhawkeye aj guitar gear reviews is like that as well, he just plays and lets you hear all the sounds
not enough a demo must be a demo with samples, not just crosspicking the strings
This is the chorus pedal used by Zakk Wylde, Malmsteen, Dave Kilminster and Van Halen. Possibly the best one to season a distorted amp
Oh boy I'm in great company!
Pity I play like crap.
And Jerry Cantrell. Very important
Love this pedal. It can sound so smooth, watery, liquid, it's great.
The sickest intro to any demo I’ve ever watched 🤯

It's not about the price it's about the sound
I love this. Sweetwater really knows how to present it without being fake, unlike other places

This guy does the best demo.
The low end on that PRS its just amazing
If you wondered what a perfect demo video looks like, here it is.
I regret selling all my BOSS pedals years ago, this one included. But I been buying them again, and I will definitely be getting this again soon.

sell yours on ebay and the buy the boss one, or even buy the other one and have two lol
I often have a hard time noticing the difference with chorus, but great explanation.
I'm not an expert but I think this is how to properly demo a pedal.
CE5 , chorus ensemble , light blues color ...sound great.since 1985 years....smart
Thanks
Dial back the bass, everything else at noon, and this is a perfect "always-on" pedal to add some shimmer to your sound. Indispensable.
Glad I'm not the only one that does this, I keep the knobs at around 1 o'clock personally
I came over to check the pedal out, but my god that black PRS is an absolute beauty!
Found one for 35 getting it this weekend;)
Why do you not demo the stereo feature? Output A & output B?

Rita Sprinkle yes
Went ahead and bought one the strength of the demo, I wasn't disappointed either.
Don you're awesome man! I love watching your reviews.
Perfect demo. Very nice person.
Brilliant demo!
nice playing, good tone
So Metal sound like 80s Rhoads etc. would be Level 1, Rate 3, Depth 3 and High filter cranked to like 5 o'clock right?

Super review
Thank u
Why mono output?
Very good explained.A good help.I have this Chorus since six month now and I'm still trying it out.Now it goes easier,Thank you.
Can you get Nirvana chorus sounds with this one?
Good review

This is one that Zakk Wylde uses. To my knowledge he ALWAYS has it on. I might buy this.
I thought Zakk Wylde uses
Boss Super Chorus.
That PRS is just awesome! what model please?
Prs 513
Yep!! SWEET REVIEW!!
On the intro, were there any other pedals involved ? What were the amp settings ? There was alot of good mojo oozing there
MUITOP MASSA PARABÉNS, É ASSIMM UE SE TESTA UM PEDAL PRA MIM.
Not a bad pedal but I think I will stay with my small clone.
I have both and I always prefer a nice small clone
Hello :) The king of the sound based on choruses is Polish guitarist Jan Borysewicz :) Regards :)
Can it replace instead of Poly chorus? If I want to play radio friendly unit shifter nirvana effect?
Don, can it be powered with any 9v adaptor? Because mine has a note warning to use only a BOSS PSA adaptor, I'm not sure.
Домет де Воргес yeah you can use any 9v mate
You need 9v 500mA adapter
Can you still get a ce 1 sound out of it?
Starts @2:25

Wich guitar do you have?
mine is very quiet, I hae to put the level in max, to hear a difference, is that normal?
This one doesnt have deep chorus. That is what I hate. Buy the ce2 or any other cheap digital chorus over there.
@DEADPOOL I think its just as it is, I thought it was broken or it was not good, but I guess is just a quiet pedal, still good for what it does.

i put strings on one and that is my new guitar

Neo Clone will work easy !
Beginning solo sounded like cherub rock by the smashing pumpkins
"old and traditional chorus..." = ce2
you look like a character ripped straigh out of south park
