Probably bc it'd analog, the ce5 was originally analog and sounds better to me. It's hard to tell but I feel like the boss is a newer digital version but could be wrong.
Great review and playing as usual! I like both pedals but think I would prefer the BOSS. I like having the ability to adjust out the brightness if needed but with MXR you can't add it back in. MXR is a little tone sucky like some MXR pedals are, but it also a very noise free pedal. BOSS for me If I had to choose
Another informative and helpful video, thanks for delivering the goods yet again. I agree with the reviewer about the CE-5 having more shimmer and top end than the MXR. However, the MXR has, as mentioned, more warmth. Would be interesting to see how these two sound with a Strat.
This video is kinda misleading. Not all BOSS CE-5 pedals sound like that. The old BOSS CE-5 pedals made till October 2001 were analog and used bucket brigade chips. Those pedals used to sound as warm as the MXR M234 analog chorus. The pedal in this video is the new variant of the Boss CE-5 which was released after October 2001. These new variants are digital and they don't sound as warm as the old analog Boss CE-5 and the MXR M234.
@@TheNocturnalEvil I don't feel it's misleading. He is doing a new gear review and comparison. He sells new musical gear its not intended to be a review of vintage used gear...
Good one. Interesting to learn that the MXR is buffered bypass. Odd that some of their pedals are true bypass and others aren't. Currently I'm using pink label analog CE-5 and I dial back the treble to make it warmer. Been liking it before the amp but after drive pedals, so in the middle of the gain stack.
El Boss tiene un efecto menos invasivo pero aporta más armonicos a la nota seca. El efecto del MXR es mas evidente y mas llamativo. Me gustan ambos pero de tener que elegir, me parece mas usable el Boss.
Kinda unfair to ce-5 when the pedals were used with distortion. The filter knobs should be turned all the way up just like on mxr pedal. Nice demo and explanations anyway. Both pedals sound good, but i like the voicing of ce-5 more
I had the MXR and now the CE-5. Also had the CE-2W. The MXR was a tone sucker when off, and when it was on it was really subtle. I didn't like it. The CE-2W was good but not close to the original CE-2. Though if you want analog chorus it's the current best. The CE-5 is the best for my use, 80's rock ballads (Dokken, Def Leppard etc.)
I have both and that mxr has too much of the airplane sound with dirt on it. My take mxr for clean chorus and the boss for dirty chorus. That's why I have both.
It's true that the MXR sucks tone, but the drop is very slight and I don't think your audience would notice. Anyway, my MXR is the first pedal in my effects loop and I can't tell any difference. Rock on Carlos
True bypass it. It's not a mod for beginners since its SMD components and you'll need to add a 3pdt and drill another hole (I've seen others get away with using a low profile switch and not needing to drill a new hole though). I true bypassed mine because chorus tone suck is unacceptable.
@@safetypatrol I was set on the MXR until I heard the tone suck thru a friend's rig and this was before I heard the youtube demos. Now I'm deciding between the Source Audio Gemini and the CE 5.
MXR for me. More warmth and more organic sounding. Thank you for this vid.

I like the perceptive verdict on each one in the end, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.
I love how you go about comparing pedals it makes it easy to get a feel for both pedals

Yep I wanted the MXR but it sucks tone and volume.
@@JAF2991 the yellow MXR Micro Chorus does the opposite and adds huge low end. Weird!

I have a really bright guitar, so I'd go with the MXR.. thanks for the video mate
Depends. Both good..High gain Better on the ce-5 than about anything. If you want to play purple rain use the MXR I guess. I have both
I never get fed up of listening to effects pedals. Even Chorus pedals.
There are two versions of the ce-5 analog and digital just to be clear not sure which you have here.
Decent demo. Thank you for the info paisan. Excellent comparison 👍🎸
Nice sounds and playing 4 sure.

I think he might have been trying to back down the controls to give like a mid boost since the pedal is more "sharp" sounding.

ce 5 though sparkle better a bit but mxr seems more fuller
orange fingers???
Nice playing also.
Som do pedal boss é mais robusto...lindo lindo

Definitely MXR
Muito bom 😌, Very good, MXR is like ??? But i prefere Boss ch5
I want to sell my MXR now
You’re insane! Lol
Thankyou.
Boss is clear cause of digital
digital vs analog (mxr)
Mxr sounds more similar to boss ch1
Did u notice if the Mxr suck tone when bypass?

Yes mxr sucks all the brightness. I don't like it.
You can buy a true bypass looper pedal and make it true bypass when it’s off.
This mxr suck tone?? Because other youtube channel saya this mxr suck tone
yep, most mxr’s do. but- upside- they rock

It's a monster tone sucker
I own one and it sucks tone like no other. I’m a buy a CE 5 now. Now.
