I HAVE THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I have a 4Runner with that exact seat configuration that shows the same exact issue. It’s a rare config so nobody has a repair guide for it and I couldn’t figure it out. What a gift!
Alot of shops wouldn't even fix the seat, they would just replace it which would be more expensive. You could have done the same but instead decided to help the customer out and save them some money. Careful out there people every mechanic is not going to be willing to help you out like this.
Thank you very much AMD. You’ve probably saved me many hours of work in the future by show what can happen when standing on the edge of the rear seat. Won’t be doing that anymore.
It's easy to slip off a tire, especially if it's wet. Consider getting one of those steps that hooks over the tire. Takes very little space to store compared to a ladder and is super useful when servicing underhood items like sparkplugs, etc
Seat work is tough. First we don’t see enough problems to get good at it. Second taking seat out is a pain. Third. Being good under the hood doesn’t necessarily make us good under the seat cushion.
I have a 2010 Sequoia, and to remove items from the roof rack, I go from the side step rail to the rear tire and reach from there, always holding on to the rack rail for safety.
gotta thank my pops for telling me to step on the tire and one foot in the door step in case i need to reach something off the roof of the truck. He probably knew about this haha
2019 Sequoia 3rd seat switches stopped working in the lowered position. Ironically, the recline switch (separate from other) raises and lowers the back (drivers side). I went to the dealer and purchased a new switch (1 of 2 but the same) in hopes that would work but to no avail - "throw parts at the problem" lol. My fear if the recline switch stops working I won't be able to move the seat back and I like changing from cargo space to people hauler. Dealer Parts guy said to bring it in, reluctantly I think I will, as it may be a programming issue. 1st choice would be take it to the CCN shop but NY to Chicago is too far to drive - although noticed the 470 is from NY. I hope to stop by next summer to meet you as a loyal subscriber and don't miss many of your videos after we retire and tour the country - the reason for the Sequoia, wonderful ride. Thank you for all the helpful tips for us Toyota Owners (bought the Sequoia from your videos). Happy Holidays to you and your families (home and work). God Bless
At 0:17 in the video, to the right of his right hand is a metal door-latch strike looking like a silver metal "C" shape. There are all sorts of "car door step" devices you can hook onto that to stand on and gain access to things like a cargo box or bicycle carried on your roof. Of course that use is not approved by the legal department of Toyota or anyone else, but bear in mind that the door latch strikes and door jambs are designed to keep the door closed in a side impact with forces on it much, much bigger than the body weight of anyone who doesn't already know they are the wrong person to go climbing up on things. The cheap ones have the step well below the strike, so no mechanism is needed, just a L-shaped piece of metal with a hook at the top, and you step on the bottom of the L. If that gets you high enough and ends up level enough on your particular car/door-jamb/strike, fine, simple is good and gravity is reliable at holding the hook there when you step on it. But there are a couple of excellent designs that allow you to even more securely grab the strike, and allow you to adjust the leveling of the step if your door jamb is angled, curving, or whatever. Amazon is your friend, for items like that. I paid $16 on sale for an excellent one, which happens to fold up pretty small to store anywhere you'll remember to find it.
I do the same - and I make sure to frequently wax every little nook up there because the roof is the first place that starts to oxidize and fade on old cars.
It is the digital market. That's been the secret to this wealth transfer. A lot of folks in the US and abroad are getting so much from it, God has been good to my household Thank you Jesus.
Same here, I believe the Bitcoin ETFs approval will be life changing opportunity for us, with my current portfolio of $108,000 from my investments with my personal financial advisor i totally agree with you
YES!!! that's exactly her name (Mrs Elizabeth Regina Nelsen) so many people have recommended highly about her and I'm just starting with her from Brisbane Australia🇦🇺
I have an 02 sienna and just yesterday I was replacing the rear seats and one of the little feet popped out from the bottom... It would not stay in its home so I ended up breaking it off with a breaker bar.. Now its locked in and who know if Im ever getting it out again... Merry Christmas!!
Thanks! Our 2008 Sienna (8-passenger LE) has fold and flip second seats, and uses tether straps to hold them up, so probably use the same mechanism. I *never* stand on those seats, probably because I’m 5’ 10”. I just found your channel recently, and I own three Toyotas now (just got a 2012 Prius for my youngest daughter). I find your videos invaluable. Merry Christmas, and God bless you and keep you!
Same 2 row layout on our 2006 Sequoia ltd. Next time I will avoid stepping on the weak spot (lol). I use A shape ladder anyway, hand washing the roof.Increasing the aspect ratio tire size added 1 in. to the overall height, so the safest way is to use a ladder. Our Sienna is much practical in many aspects.
Thank you, the rear seat behind the driver seat on my '07 GX is a little finicky at times now I know why, and I now know better than to work on it myself. Merry Christmas and a better new year.🧑🎄
One thing the 4Runner has on the Land Cruiser/lx and gx is that the 2nd row folds flat for camping or hauling stuff. 3rd row in the gx and lc they constantly for years always bet on people spending substantial amounts of time in the 3rd row which nearly no one does because of lack of space, hence as to why the 2nd row seats fold toward the front of the car, for easy 3rd row access. Evidence of that is the 100 series having the rear climate controls on the ceiling on the driver’s side
I've found snaking wires through areas works well using an electricians "fish tape" They come in handy and are relatively cheap. Did a "pop n lock" on kid's Tacoma. Could never have got the wiring from the tailgate to the front without it.
I want to love my GROM for my GX460 -- the terrible touch screen of the GX really brings it down with sticky button touches. If you don't have to touch the screen it is great!
Hopfully the owner of the GX purchase one of these for example: Rightline Gear Moki Car Door Step - Hooks on Car Door Latch for Car Roof Access, As Seen on Shark Tank - Original Fixed Step or something similar that fits the vechicle door latch.
Indeed a bad Idea to step on a seat for the reasons stated and because the bolster might bust at the seam, just rip it wide open, can also cause creases in leather. Always a good day to see TCCN and on Christmas Day too!
Tires! Just use tires for climbing, no matter is it an Land Cruiser (like mine :D) Defender, Discovery, Ranger... Best thing is it is rubber, so even in rain and snow it will be much better for standing than plastics and metal!
Hi there TCCN, is the any chance we could get a video from you about how long you should/shouldn't let you car warm up for in the winter months. I've heard so many different opinions and I would truly like to hear your perspective on the matter! I own a 2006 GX 470! Thanks again for the amazing content!
I’ve got a prado 120 diesel VX 2008 model in Australia in the same color. Always treat it with respect with oil changes filters and good fuel and they’ll go forever
I believe after this great man stop working for toyota, they stared watching his video to be able to figure problems out at the warehouse 😅😅 God bless you 🙏🏼
An alternative to the seat, folded or not, are products that hook onto the door latch on the b- or c-pillar to form a step. Obviously for nimble climbers that won't break the latch!
Oops, I stepped on the seat quite a few times, but luckily, all the folding functions still work well. I will be careful not to step on the seat from now on. Perhaps folding the seat down and stepping on the back of the seat instead?
I had the same problem with a friend of mine. I just broke out a welder in some steel bar stock I had and reinforced that part of the seat, then painted it with some clear coat for corrosion purposes. I’m only 140 pounds but my friend is 230 and now he can jump on that and nothing happens.😂
The GX460’s little cable comes out of it’s little notch and then the seat wont fold down flat. You have to get way under the seat to rehouse it. Very annoying but easily fixable with a couple flatheads and a third hand to hold a light.
There are more individual parts in the 2nd row fold into floor seats than the entire engine of my mini van. I think the engineers figured out they got paid by the part.
By biggest gripe with Grom is how little RAM and processing power they give you for the money. Even then I don't think its worth the software it uses. Only makes sense if you absolutely want to keep oem screen. Otherwise, if your car never came with any sort of nav features, you're better off getting a reputable Android standalone aftermarket headunit.
I used to work in an auto seat factory years ago, the ones we made were quite complicated and well engineered. I can see where diagnosing problems with them would be difficult. I really enjoy your channel
Off topic question. Have a 2024 Corolla hybrid. Wanted to disconnect speaker for pedestrian alert temporarily but will plug it back in again. I know this will throw a code on the dashboard I've read. I'm just wondering once plugged back in will the code go away or will it have to be cleared by a scanner?
Thank you once again for sharing. Can you tell me if that also applies to the rear seats that fold 60/40? I was just curious. And I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Keep up the great videos.

Seconded…
Sometime bend a bit down the hook though…
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas ❤️❤️ TCCN 🎉 Have a wonderful day ❤️❤️
Merry christmas and thanks for all the information you give to us.
Merry Xmas!
Thanks AMD. Great job. Good info. God bless. Happy trails.
Thanks for info, Merry Christmas
I just stand on the rear tire, never thought of standing on the seat.
Merry Christmas my friend
You mentioned the Grom thing. Never heard of it how about a link in the description
I would never stand on my car seats. Instead, I get on tires to wash roof of my car.
I do the same - and I make sure to frequently wax every little nook up there because the roof is the first place that starts to oxidize and fade on old cars.
Beautiful job as always tons of information
I'm glad you made this video it reminds me of my transformation from a nobody to good home, $34k monthly and a good daughter full of love
wow this awesome I'm 47 and have been looking for ways to be successful, please how??

Wow! Kind of in shock you mentioned expert, Elizabeth Regina Nelsen. What a coincidence!!
I have an 02 sienna and just yesterday I was replacing the rear seats and one of the little feet popped out from the bottom... It would not stay in its home so I ended up breaking it off with a breaker bar.. Now its locked in and who know if Im ever getting it out again...

Same thing with my 2000 Sienna.
Excellent sleuth work, AMD Team. 👍👏🌻
Happy holidays Mr. Nut!!!

This kind of stuff doesn’t happen in Toyotas from the 90’s…. J/K. Merry Christmas

Can you advise how to properly DIY a transmission flush?
Master Mechanic 👍😎

Very helpful; very informative!
Thanks AMD and team.
Thank you for this video you're the best, Loving my LC250
Once again, Ahmed figures out the problem that nobody else can.
I've found snaking wires through areas works well using an electricians "fish tape" They come in handy and are relatively cheap. Did a "pop n lock" on kid's Tacoma. Could never have got the wiring from the tailgate to the front without it.
Thanks this was a great informative video
This is great advice!
Thanks for your info amigo
Great Review thank you and happy holidays 🇺🇸🌲🇺🇸
Like allways that Vermonter
You can buy a little step that hooks onto the door latch. Standing on a tire is not always a good position to reach something on the roof rack.
I pulled the 2nd row out of my GX and built a camper setup in the back. I don't need more than 1 passenger inside that thing at any point in time
Thank you
There are some folding step stools on the market that can be used for SUVs and truck beds. Worth having for easy access.

I used to use a tire step, now I use a door latch step, to get to my roof top cargo box. Around 20-30 at amazon.
I believe after this great man stop working for toyota, they stared watching his video to be able to figure problems out at the warehouse 😅😅 God bless you 🙏🏼

Absolutely genius!
I don't own a Lexus, but I do all my own auto repairs and knowledge is power!
Thanks!
Toyota needs to fix that !😃
Good advice thankyou.
There is a product that hook on the location where the door latches and provide a small platform for you to step on.
"MERRY 🎄 🤶 CAR NUT GUY "
Happy holidays.
Woooo... Can the GX460 fold forward 😮???
I wonder if the second gen sienna second row seats have that issue, like mine
Amd my guy - take a vacation from time to time. Ain’t all about videos and $$
Do the 2021 Highlander seats tumble?
I had the same problem with a friend of mine. I just broke out a welder in some steel bar stock I had and reinforced that part of the seat, then painted it with some clear coat for corrosion purposes. I’m only 140 pounds but my friend is 230 and now he can jump on that and nothing happens.😂
Thanks for the Xmas update and many more great updates on your channel;is a 2007 Toyota Highlander a good compact SUV to buy used?

$44 for a plastic handle? Does it have a platinum core?
If it was platinum it would be $4400
Lexus tax 😆
@jensha8898 I can buy a stainless steel doorknob at Home Depot for $15...
It's a Lexus. Gotta pay to play with the luxury brands. It's still cheaper than the other luxury brands in terms of parts and maintenance costs.
There are more individual parts in the 2nd row fold into floor seats than the entire engine of my mini van.
I think the engineers figured out they got paid by the part.
There’s a car door step you can find on Amazon that works perfectly to avoid this issue.

Aeroplanes have a "no step" painted stencil on parts of the wing etc...
What years is this type of seat used? My 2020 4 Runner folds differently.
I used to work in an auto seat factory years ago, the ones we made were quite complicated and well engineered. I can see where diagnosing problems with them would be difficult. I really enjoy your channel

What the heck is a grom and what does it do?
so.....HOW DO YOU FIX THAT LATCH PROBLEM? Do you bend the seat frame back up?
Do you work on scions
A Nissan press car? Is there a video coming?
very likely, though maybe they're on break so it'd be after new years
Took out all the back seats-problem solved!
Control your jumping kids as well on the seats ,they can also wreck havoc too
Brilliant
Happy Hanukkah everyone
Thank you once again for sharing. Can you tell me if that also applies to the rear seats that fold 60/40? I was just curious. And I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Keep up the great videos.
