I just bought one with the goldfoil pickup. That's the slide sound I've been looking for ever since I smashed up my first guitar 50 years ago! I've got a brass resonator but it doesn't do it for me like this does. My search is over. Who knew I needed to go cheaper? Perfect.
RK really does make incredible guitars and sell then at ridiculously low prices. I’ve owned a Dirty 30s parlor 12 fret in tobacco burst, for a few years now. It has the basic dot inlays and no electronics. I bought it “new open box” for under $150, incl shipping! Love it! Solid spruce top, Martin-like scalloped x bracing, bone nut and saddle, great tone and so fun to play. I did have to put quite a bit of work into sanding/rounding/polishing the fret ends and lowering recrowning a couple high spots on the 14th and 15th frets, but I have the tools and experience, so it was easy to correct. If you don’t, take it to a luthier for a good setup and you’re good to go. Great stuff!
I had one of these a few years ago(they've been out in America for a bit longer) and I loved it. It sounds a little tinny, which many people don't like - but they play very well and are incredibly portable guitars. I only let go of mine because my little cousin wanted to learn guitar and she needed something that was closer to her size
I bought one of these (with a built in pick-up) two years ago for one reason only: I wanted to have another acoustic to play in Nashville tuning (high strung). It's such a cool sound to use for recordings and make everything sound really wide for the price of a pedal. Never regretted it.
I play my Recording King $200 with the gold foil pickup.....more than my Martin or Gibson......amazing little blues boxes! So much fun to play everybody should own one of these.....experienced or beginners.......perfect for beginners.....great company as well......nice folks who know their stuff..
Really pleased you're stocking the RK range now. I really love this company. Their high end models are great value for money too, but it's been pretty difficult finding a decent UK stockist until now.
I have a sunburst Lilly of the valley. I like it so much I put some locking tuners and a flatsons "resonace pickup" (built in CDR) in it. It punches way above its weight. I only paid 139...and it has pretty gold paint too
I have two RK parlors and I love em. I have the Minnie Bucker wood body single 0 reso and just ordered one of these with the gold foil pup. Looking forward to using it at me next show Friday opening for Scott H Biram.
If anyone thinking of grabbing one of these bad boys then don’t hesitate. This was my first guitar and it’s sound is the reason I fell in love with playin. I ash my cigarettes on it while I’m laying on my couch playing it and when I’m done I just throw it wherever. It’s got a bunch of nicks and scratches and the necks all gunked up with the markers scratched up and fading away but tbh I love it’s patina look. It’s not a Prs p20 or a guild 240 but it’s not suppose to be that, it’s the old American beater. It’s my daily driver earning it the nickname “ol trusty”. And for 150 bucks I can take that baby with me anywhere without fear of damage!
I got one of the dirty 30s acoustic just about a year ago. Love playing it and it's my main go-to for learning and daily practice. I don't like the tuning machines though and was considering getting some better ones installed. Any opinion on doing this? Good move, bad move?
Hi to both of you, great fun to watch you play nice with that . It doesn't matter which brand but it sounds well with a lot of fun in it. That's the essence here for your play.
Patricio Chile
This obviously isn't everyone's experience, as I see a lot of positive comments here, but while working as a guitar repair tech I have worked on probably a dozen or more Recording King instruments (acoustics + banjos) and every single one was horrifically bad. Failing glue joints on the neck and bridge, broken plastic nuts/tuners/bridges, peeling fake plastic headstock veneers, rocking saddles and lifting bridges, failed braces, dried glue squeeze out everywhere, scratchy fret surfaces and fret edges like razor blades (no fretwork to speak of)... I would avoid these and save your money.
They have something of the look, but the tone of those old catalogue guitars owes a lot to the ladder bracing they used back then. The irony is that if you want a modern guitar that's braced like an 30's Stella, you have to spend $1000's on a Waterloo, Fraulini, Hauver etc.
This might be a terrible idea but was thinking about it today. Would you ever consider doing the how to sound like ... videos but using modelling amps? I am very limited on space so I cant have a pedalboard really. I have a boss katana and have just ordered a positive grid Spark and was wondering if you could possibly try replicating artists tones using amps similar which you sell at Andertons. I know there is a tone cloud and katana patches however it would be good to see the process and thought behind working out the tones etc using the tools in the modelling amps
They really like Silk & Steel strings. They make the guitar more strummable, but you do lose a little of the acoustic blues vibe. But yeah, cheap tuners. Even their Series 9 guitars have the same cheap tuners. Agh!

sounds seems reminiscence of a dobro...I realize some of that is the affects, but still a classic sound.
it's good to see Ben again! MASIVE slide skills

Ben is shrinking, but the talent is still huge. Great to see Ben and Pete together.
Their Dirty 30’s resonators are also reasonably priced and sound amazing.
Can you please do a demo on them?
Wow, when Ben put dirt on it and played it like it needs it... They sound great.
Sounded soooo good

Ben is such a beast on an acoustic. Loved this video! Good job fellas, you sold a Recording King to this guy.
What an intro ! Beautiful playing !

Damn Ben, you sure do never fail to amaze! You and Pete sounded great together.
Wow, sounds great. I love the one Ben is playing.
Absolutely fantastic, love to hear Ben playing this kind of stuff and some great backing from Pete, more of the same please.
I'm self taught, blues harmonica and dobro, and 6 string electric slide, awesome playing guys!😎

Wow what timing I just got a 3/4 washburn acoustic and I'm loving it .Was just trying out some slide on it to .
Bought the grey RPS-007 as my first accoustic. Cheap, not very big or loud. Quite pleased, gotta say
Besides the awesome intro, Ben is looking trim!
I almost didn't recognize him.
I have one I got for xmas from inlaws and it's a great little guitar. Seriously ultimate couch rocker!
For the money they are fantastic. I had one for years and only paid $75 USD for it.
They are great guitars for the money.
Got That Old Record Blues Sound And You Can’t Go Wrong Purchasing One 👍👍🎶🎶🎸Awesome Video Guys.
Ben served us up a heaping helping of guitar face. I love it 😂
That intro was outrageous!
Proud owner of two- an acoustic with a pickup and a resonator that I am trying to learn slide on
That is the sound of Rock n Roll and blues being born
Great playing and it really nails that slide tone!
Lovin the green and orange!
Now that's REAL WORLD jamming! A few beers, some bar-b-q's and tons of laughs! Well done Ben and Pete!

Doing his yoga, and a bit of Charlie from the looks of it. Gotta watch out for them Danes, they get you into trouble...
Absolutely must do a video with Ben playing in the door of a railway car! Great to hear those sounds.
You guys are awesome 😊 great review... great jam!

The Zoolander and Craig David quotes have been the cherry on top! Great stuff! 🎸
Great to see that someone has picked up the RK brand since CBUK dropped them. Love my RK Parlour solid top
Tried these out in my local guitar shop last week. They are great, but for 20 quid more the fender cp60 knocks them out the park
Really looking forward to hear you speak about the Dirty 30's resonator ...

I’ve got two and the only issue I had was after my ex decided to relic one in her way out. She wanted to see if it could fly. 😂
While sooo many say otherwise. You are a repair guy…of course you are going to see the bad.
Ben AND Pete=dream team
Oh yeah, sweet jam!
DAMN, the Lola intro was fantastic sounding!!!
Love the orange color
Bens had a makeover looking good man !
Holy crap! Ben has even conquered slide! 👍
That was amazing guys
Will have to have one of these at some point. Sound and look great
Ben in a sparky version! Looking good Mr. Cocteau!!
Damn what an intro. We want Ben and Pete more often together!!!
I want to learn slide guitar after watching this
Instant follow for Ben Smith, incredible talent and doesnt take it to seriously, a charming combo
I love my Recording Kings.
I agree a budget guitar with a custom shop sound

Brilliant!! Just had to subscribe!!
Wish you guys were in the states!!!
Full. Watch and subbed!😎
How is the action on this one straight out of the box? Does it need any adjustments or is it comfortable enough to just grab and play?
Please do more recording king review. I suggest the Recording King RDS-7
Great rendition of ‘Malted milk’
Damn Ben really is good isn't he?
If you want small with big sound a Martin junior would fit the bill.
Joy! Back porch music with someone pounding on a cardboard box while someone else scrapes a washboard with a thimble. Real music.
Whoopee ! A guitar I can afford.... although I wouldn't want one....
No mention of the Justin Townes Earle model?
Great playing, great sounds, fugly colors..

You guys are great I do not need a Waterloo I nee a Recording King.
How are these compared to the Takamine GY11 ME-NS?
correction - I *NEED* to learn slide after this
its impssible to get hold of the 0 model with gold foil pickup
Ben! what thumbpicks do you use? and how the heck do you strum with them? lol :( … but yeah these little guitars are cool!
They're called The Òrd, a guy called @DaveDavePicks makes them for me, check him out on IG.
"Lola"!
Love the fingerpicking where every chord is a 7.
Can anyone tell me if Ben offers any type of slide guitar lessons?
Does he have a website or anything like that? Contact info.?
Thanks so much.
I do! You can get me at ben@bensmithguitar.com 😊 or message me through socials - @bensmithguitar 🎸🎶
Ben, what slide are you using?
He posted on IG that it's a Diamond Bottleneck
It is, it's one of their 'ultimate' ones, and it's really really good. 🎸😊
nice!!!!
Off the wall
Want to learn slide guitar? Learn on this INSANELY green acoustic guitar.
When are the RK Resonators coming? :)
So many upgrade options!...unless you're left handed. Lol oh well diy I guess
I have inherited an old Silvertone single cut away from the 1950s. It was by fathers.
They really like Silk & Steel strings. They make the guitar more strummable, but you do lose a little of the acoustic blues vibe. But yeah, cheap tuners. Even their Series 9 guitars have the same cheap tuners. Agh!
2 guitar
Anyone bought one of these? I have GAS for the goldfoil.
I dare you to do the sound like the leveller
It’s funny how much better RK is than Fender acoustics for twice the price.
Blaaa blaaaaaaaa blubbb
Sweet guitars for £199. Btw, what happened to Chappers? Is he coming back? I liked Chappers!
Pete's not an omni-turner
This is an ad video with an ad posted inside!
If only their headstocks weren't so utterly ugly. Got myself a Gretsch Jim Dandy instead - would get one again any day!
Get a vintage cheap guitar sound without the vintage cheap guitar problems.
5 mins in Ben basically saying they are crap lol
first
Good to see these guys together again
What kind of bone is used for a bone nut? Monkey? Cow? Human?
