  • Zal describes the influences that got him playing guitar in the 1960s.
We hear how he found fame during the heyday and excesses of the 1970s playing on hits such as Delilah, Boston Tea Party and the Faith Healer with the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
We learn the reasons behind his iconic white mime makeup!
We hear stories about his guitar work with Nazareth, Elkie Brooks, Bonnie Tyler and Midge Ure amongst many others.
Zal also tells us about the recording of his latest album with Orphans of the Ash and the writing of his new novel.

    Fascinating interview.
Zal is a wonderful and much loved and respected guitarist in his own right, but of course as the lead guitarist in SAHB he is positively legendary.
Loved the interview and delighted to hear Zal's stories of his influences and inspirations.

Here's the inspiration for the Baseball Furies
His sound on Faith Healer sounds just like the guitars in the Warriors

He played with Elkie Brooks in the 1980's as her touring guitarist. Saw Sin Dogs at a small club in Grimsby, very poorly supported, must have been disappointing for them. They are still going and have replaced Zal. Orphans of the Ash, we will see

Zal is on record saying that when they decided to use makeup he went to see the legendary mime Marcel Marceau. So that was his influence. He also used many of Marceau's moves.
