Just picked one of these amps up today, and I love this thing. It sounds great and is so easy to use. I first tried a modeling amp, only to spend most of my time playing with knobs and buttons. I quickly took it back and got the Crush 35rt. This thing is well built, and sounds amazing. Being a beginning player, I think an amp like this is the best way to go. This way you can spend more time learning how to play your guitar then how to play with your amp.
Agreed. I bought one for my dad, an Crush 20rt because how easy the are to use. I wanted to keep it though after using it for a bit, the sound really good. Going to buy a 35rt for myself I think....
I just bought the 12 watt Orange for late night, living room jamming. (Also, for something just to take around when I am away from home) For such a small amp, it gets a fantastic sound. I love it to bits. I plan on buying the 60 watt version for louder settings when I have the cash. Love the video!
im a guitar player who doesn't like metal and has no interest in theory but I love watching robs videos just cause he seems like a genuinely nice and entertaining guy :)
I am considering getting one of these as a simple jam/small gig amp . A guitar forum I frequent has nothing but praise for these amps and people often use them for gigs or rehearsals with drummers. Here is an example of a post about the 35 rt So for anyone who plays louder/heavier music I used my crush 35rt at my black metal band practice yesterday. Drummer is the cavemanest of all drummers. Other guitarist plays through a 100watt tube Peavey JSX with a 412 cab. I had to turn my clean channel down to 5/8 from 3/4 volume and my Boss HM2 volume down from 1/2 to 1/4 because I was drowning out his half stack which was pretty cranked. I had the combo about 5 feet of the floor and all of us, including the bassist with a 300w Ampeg 115 and our singer, could hear it loud and clearly. And it sounded good. I did have to change the tone dials though, mainly the lowered bass a little, though I was super impressed with this amp. It really is the perfect grab and go amp, great clean channel with lots of headroom, decent reverb, foot switch-able channels, dirt channel that does blues to punk and metal. And it’s light. Just my 2¢ but I think this could definitely replace some punk and metal guys half stacks. And another I had kept my Pro Junior at our practice space for a long time. The Pro Junior, a Bad Monkey, two cables and a Snark tuner. Sometimes I would bring my pedal board, other times I would just use the Bad Monkey at practice. I missed having the Pro Junior at home (love the PJ). I thought that if the Crush was a winner I would have a clean channel, a dirty channel, reverb and a tuner in one little amp and I would only have to bring a guitar to practice. Simplify simplify....it's practice. The gain channel on the Crush is very British/Orange-ish...I'm used to a TS-808 sound but I was able to dial in a very nice light crunch. I got used to it in a hurry and I was very happy. The clean channel is spanky. We ran the Beatles Birthday song and I was over the top of our drummer and the amp was clear as a bell. The reverb is very nice. I'm always skeptical about digital reverbs but this one sounds spring-like. I don't know how they do it but they did it. The tuner works very well. I wish it was a silent tuner but it's not. When you touch the tuner button and tune your guitar the guitar still plays loudly through the amp. Major real world test number twice in one day: Took it to a jam after the gig. Had a bevy of suburban bluuuz guys gathered 'round to get the low down on it. When they found out it was SS, a couple of 'em started doing the classic back-pedal "ahhh, I thought I could kinda hear that..." One of them asked if he could pick it up. After he lifted it he just said "I'm getting one tomorrow". Orange has built a serious sounding piece of gear, that costs next to nothing. If this thing lasts a year, I'll have gotten far more than my money's worth. I feel like I'll have it longer. Highly recommended.
I Love the Digitech Bad Monkey too and have the Ibanez TS-9 also but my BadMonkey does so well with my Ibanez RG guitars running it through the Peavey 6505 micro Piranha w/1x8” 6505 cab and it “Chugs” to my liking. I’ve used it for years in my mancave/bedroom situation and looking to upgrade to Orange amplification considering the Micro Dark w/1x8” cab combo from Sweetwater $269 and now reading raving reviews about the Crush 35RT w/10” driver for $279! What do I go with? Help me out “please”with your advice/opinions from you Orange guys cause I’ve only used Peavey since early 80’s (having local plant here in Ms. at one time) trying to keep my money down South and very pleased with Peavey! Just ready for a heavy experience with Orange amplification…..#🎸🤘🏻🔥#Ibanez#RG#Peavey#Orange#Lust/Envy
I recently traded my Vox Vt20 for a used Orange Crush RT20. I always assumed Orange amps were strictly for hard rock only. But this amp has a great clean tone. The tone is great and it takes pedals really well. I've used it with delay, tremolo, reverb, and overdrive pedals. I own a Blues Jr also , and the Orange amp has a very organic response. As far as the Vox, it just had too many features that I didn't want. I just need a great clean sound, great dirty sound, and a headphone/audio jacks for silent practice. The Orange amp fit the bill.
I've owned the 35 rt for 2 years now, great amp, it can do metal/rock really well. The clean sound is good, though I don't use it as much. I'm never letting it go, even though I have other amplifiers.
Rob, I was looking for kind of playing to make my choice!! Doesn't matter, still bought my Chapman ML-3 Modern Natural. I'm really happy that you expanded your musical horizons, even if it's just a little improv. Not all of us like metal, but nonetheless, have my Chapman right here and I'm more than happy. Thank you!
The Orange sound is unique, never copied the big three (F-M-V), and these practice amps knock it out of the park. 🏏 And... that Chapman guitar sounds sweet. Always loved the sound Tom Petersson attacked us with in Cheap Trick.
As a devote tube guy...I reluctantly purchased at RT-35 model as a back up to my Fender Deluxe Reverb ( which has been modded to hell and back ) BUT it is slowly becoming my favorite amp, easy to use works great with pedals as well as my Line 6 HD 500 which I had given up on til I purchased this amp.. I like the sound of a SM 57 in front of it for gigging as opposed to the headphone/line out
I used to play through an old Orange crush 15 when I first started taking lessons... I used to have so much fun playing through that amp. Sometimes I wonder what all the fuss is about with those expensive tube amps, as they dont sound any better to me than this little solid state amp.
i went to the local shop today and tried the crush 12, simply it kicks ass. Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Page as well, at a low volume, really nice amps, iv got laney cub 10 tube amp, great tone, works good with soul food and stuff, however the solid state amps like these little babes really kick ass. for all of you guys who swear and shout about these guys here, get yourself more knowledge about music then come and discuss.

Jiggery pokery? Is that a technical term? lol I am trying to decide between the CR35 and the Orange 60w. I want to replace my Line 6 Spider Jam that has to much jiggery pokery. I want to pair it up with a POD HD500. Looking for the never ending quest for that "Gilmour tone". It seems like one of these will deliver.
to be fair for a tiny little amp its sounds pretty good. I recently got a vox soundbox mini and I find that (although its even smaller) has allot more punch and a larger sound.
Guys, I've got the 20rt, I play an Epi Dot and it is GREAT!!!!! And if you add a Mooer Ultradrive You'll get wet. Thank you for the review, it helped me a lot!!!!
Often run mine with a TS9 Tube Screamer, mostly on the clean channel with some reverb. It's ace. Going to try either a Green Rhino, Green Russian or maybe an SFT soon and put that darkness to good use.
Hello, and thanks for the video. I am considering an Epiphone AFD for the kiddo. Either just the guitar, with something like the Crush 20RT or 35RT. The other option would be the "pack" that comes with the guitar, and a small 15W amp. The price difference is $100US, so I'm thinking that I may go ahead with the package setup and then if he sticks with it get him a better amp later on. Any input would be most appreciated. I'm not a musician but would like to expose my kiddos to music. Any other entry-level guitars/amps you think we should look into? Thanks again for the video, keep shining....
I'm struggling with the decision of adding either a multi-effects processor or individual pedals to complement my 35rt. I'm considering the Digitech RP1000.
Don't understand why everyone is expecting the tone of these amps to sound like some amazing tube amp. These are small and affordable PRACTICE amps. I don't mind the tone of these at all. I'd love to get one for myself!
I enjoy the single tube hybrid amps that have come out in the last 20 years as a tone for the guitars to settle in on. I push towards a warm tone with the addition of reverb or tremolo. but, lk
Nice amps indeed. Among others I have a Fender Frontman 15G, 15 watts & an 8" speaker that sounds equally as good on the clean and the gain channels! Most people deride the Frontman 15G. Here's my take. The speaker is not sounding good until after around 15 - 20 hours of playing. Then all of a sudden it becomes a different amp entirely. It sounds as good as just about any amp that I have ever owned. The only limit is that it's 15 watts driving an 8" speaker. It is loud, just not professional gigging loud. It is my favorite practice amp these day's. Will I purchase an Orange amp? Yes, more likely than not I will. Or another 5 watt tube amp that can drive 4/8/16 ohm speaker cab's. They are loud but not ear damaging loud an can be purchased for less than $200 American in 2017. I love and prefer over driven tube amps ever since having a hot rodded Marshall JCM 900 with a Full Stack of JCM 900 1969A and 1960B speaker cab's.
I've recently got myself a Micro terror and a Marshall 1936V cab. It sounds pretty cool but, like you say it only has one channel. I'm thinking of getting a multi FX pedal board. which one would you recommend that's not pricey and you don't have a problem with by passing any modelling so you get the sound of your amp set up with FX. Cheers
Great video, but I have one suggestion. I think you guys should have tried switching guitars for each amp so we could get an idea of how much different they would sound. Thanks!
I have the Orange 35RT & it is a fucking monster... and honestly, you have to hear it with a tube screamer...I use the od808 and if I turn the dirt past 3 (with the gain appropriately at 9-10) I could do a show at a small venue...for the price...idk if there’s a better combo, & I’ve had a few... after a few months of owning the 35RT I ended up selling my other combo amps, I’m sure the 20RT will get the job done just the same, part of me finds that the 35rt is almost too loud to play at my house so the 20RT could potentially be a better option if u live in an apartment etc...
I'm sure some people would think they have too many guitar. I recently bought a rack stand and realised I had enough guitars to fill it plus one more and I thought I might have a problem. That problem is not enough guitars.
I'm having a hard time to decide between Orange Crush 20 (not RT) and Marshal MG-15 CFR (not CFX). I'm trying to keep the budget below €150 and these are my final options.. I've been trying to narrow them down for months, watched every review, read so many forum threads.. etc. I've also seen so much hatred against the MGs but sound reviews tell me otherwise.. I have a Les Paul and I'm not much into the sound of the mustang 2 and can't afford a peavey vypyr. I'm not much into metal, mostly I'm in search for a really Slashy sound with a practice amp that I can carry around. I also like simplicity over complex effects which is one of the reasons I pick Orange over others.. I have the pedals I need so I don't need an FX amp.. I need pure classic vintage like sound.. So.. any reason I would pick one over the other? My only big dilemma is Orange Cab-Sim and few extra Watts vs Marshal Reverb.. :-/ I'm leaning towards the Orange so far though..
I has volume up to #11, but i only go as high as 2 cuz my neighbors would kill me. It's a 50w tube amp. Would it sound better if i used a Tube Screamer or just not worth it?
My biggest problem is that I couldn't use it in my bedroom.. it needs to be loud to get it 🔥 and hot..should I get an overdrive pedal so that it will get hot even in low volume..?
I love that the second Rob mentioned the Vorsprung dwarf technic joke youtube suddenly blacked out and went "an error occured". I think he offended it.
How Chappers said that Lee is using a standard Les Paul, I feel like maybe he should use a lower priced guitar because these are typically sold to people that may have a smaller budget, or somebody that just stays at home and plays as a hobby. They should've done the review with a standard fender or something at a smaller budget. by the way, these amps sound great!
It wasn't that, he said that he put the mids quite high, it sounds like the amps are really dark sounding so you'd probably need a treble boost pedal or something like that
Amps just doesn't sound good or full with speakers below 12" (atleast to me) It would probably sound much better with a 12" and a bit bigger cab. A 35W with a 10".. Bit of a joke. Everytime I've heard a 10" they've always been muffled and lifeless like these
its funny when we brits talk about when it was really windy or we have bad weather because in reality its kinda just not bad compared other places -it opened my window roughly-
loving your guitar rob they sound and look wicked, how about a blindfold test with the blindfolded person listening to the other play cheap guitar with cheap amp cheap guitar expensive amp and so on i think its harder to tell these days. cheers
I need a new and better sounding practice amp. Ive got a Marshall MG15 combo, and its not really doing it for me. I love a fat, desert rockish sound, and would love an amp with a little more power then the MG15 - are any of these Orange amps a good fit? I got a few pedals to help me with getting the sound right, but i need something that doesnt freak out when i turn up the volume. The MG15 cant handle that.
QvinHM I mean gain not volume. Volume makes no difference. With low volume it sounds horrible. That setting also just is horrible no matter how much gain you put in.

I want to pair it up with a POD HD500. Looking for the never ending quest for that "Gilmour tone". It seems like one of these will deliver.
The Tele thing is so cool! I want one! Sounds great :)
its a Chapman ML3 traditional
Cranking the "clean" channel for the win!
to be fair for a tiny little amp its sounds pretty good. I recently got a vox soundbox mini and I find that (although its even smaller) has allot more punch and a larger sound.
That opener would be a good hot dog bbq beer drinking commercial!
Guys, I've got the 20rt, I play an Epi Dot and it is GREAT!!!!! And if you add a Mooer Ultradrive You'll get wet. Thank you for the review, it helped me a lot!!!!
Love the 20rt
Often run mine with a TS9 Tube Screamer, mostly on the clean channel with some reverb. It's ace. Going to try either a Green Rhino, Green Russian or maybe an SFT soon and put that darkness to good use.
i love that gibson captain
Hello, and thanks for the video. I am considering an Epiphone AFD for the kiddo. Either just the guitar, with something like the Crush 20RT or 35RT. The other option would be the "pack" that comes with the guitar, and a small 15W amp. The price difference is $100US, so I'm thinking that I may go ahead with the package setup and then if he sticks with it get him a better amp later on. Any input would be most appreciated. I'm not a musician but would like to expose my kiddos to music. Any other entry-level guitars/amps you think we should look into? Thanks again for the video, keep shining....
Great video as always. Please do a blindfold challenge of this amp vs. the micro terror vs. the dark terror or tiny terror. Thank you!
Love watching your vids keep up the good work boys!!!!
I absolutely love that chapman guitar. Where can I get one chappers! ?!?
As an american, I second the request for explanation of the dwarf joke
I'm struggling with the decision of adding either a multi-effects processor or individual pedals to complement my 35rt. I'm considering the Digitech RP1000.
Don't understand why everyone is expecting the tone of these amps to sound like some amazing tube amp. These are small and affordable PRACTICE amps. I don't mind the tone of these at all. I'd love to get one for myself!
I have always wondered how these tiny amps would sound with a larger cab. Is this achievable to do this and sound good?
Would I be able to use the crush 35rt for a small club gig
Yes, they are more than loud enough. I use mine with my band and I can't turn it all the way up!
Yes, i use a 20rt for gigging and it works fantastic
I want a Les Paul so bad. Been wanting one since I was 10.
I enjoy the single tube hybrid amps that have come out in the last 20 years as a tone for the guitars to settle in on. I push towards a warm tone with the addition of reverb or tremolo. but, lk
Lee's laugh at 2:18
Nice amps indeed. Among others I have a Fender Frontman 15G, 15 watts & an 8" speaker that sounds equally as good on the clean and the gain channels! Most people deride the Frontman 15G. Here's my take. The speaker is not sounding good until after around 15 -
20 hours of playing.
Cheers
What kind of budget are we talking here? £100? £200?
TheKnifleman Let's start with the £100 and if that's not up to scratch then let's try £200.
Loving the reef in this video!
I ordered a 20 watt orange practice amp earlier in the week. Hopefully it works well for me.
nice jam! you guys are great!
Great video, but I have one suggestion. I think you guys should have tried switching guitars for each amp so we could get an idea of how much different they would sound.
Thanks!
I have the Orange 35RT & it is a fucking monster... and honestly, you have to hear it with a tube screamer...I use the od808 and if I turn the dirt past 3 (with the gain appropriately at 9-10)
I could do a show at a small venue...for the price...idk if there’s a better combo, & I’ve had a few... after a few months of owning the 35RT I ended up selling my other combo amps, I’m sure the 20RT will get the job done just the same, part of me finds that the 35rt is almost too loud to play at my house so the 20RT could potentially be a better option if u live in an apartment etc...
I'm sure some people would think they have too many guitar. I recently bought a rack stand and realised I had enough guitars to fill it plus one more and I thought I might have a problem. That problem is not enough guitars.
Hi Rob, quick question for you, is the, what looks like a side address ribbon microphone, a sE R-1?
I'm leaning towards the Orange so far though..
Whats the song at the start?? unless you guys are just super good at jamming
I has volume up to #11, but i only go as high as 2 cuz my neighbors would kill me. It's a 50w tube amp. Would it sound better if i used a Tube Screamer or just not worth it?
Captains face when he turned down the reverb 😂 "Sounded like you're playing in a toilet"
Now I don't know if I shld get the CR60C or the 35RT. If they have similar tones I'll definitely get the smaller 35RT.
The Tele being used is an affordable guitar.
Steven Chabot I think he means 'Shifordable' :)
Was Rob scooping the mids, or is the amp naturally that lifeless and lacking in bite?
Rob says he has lots of treble and mids later in the vid so I'm guessing it's just the amp...
Everytime I've heard a 10" they've always been muffled and lifeless like these
I'm interested what small practice amp on a budget has the bite and won't make neighbours burn from the noice?
chefo93 Plenty, including the smaller version Capt. is playing. Midrange isn't a pricey feature.
Can somebody please tell me what the chords are the Captain (Too Many Guitars shirt) is playing in the opening jam? So flippin’ tasty.
Just scored one of these sweet amp
its funny when we brits talk about when it was really windy or we have bad weather because in reality its kinda just not bad compared other places
-it opened my window roughly-
That jam at the beginning tho!!!
Will you do a video to compare Fender Blues Junior and Orange Micro Terror please?
I want that shirt. "I have too many guitar"
loving your guitar rob they sound and look wicked, how about a blindfold test with the blindfolded person listening to the other play cheap guitar with cheap amp cheap guitar expensive amp and so on i think its harder to tell these days. cheers
love you guyses vids why dont you guys ever demo fender guitars?
How does this sound for punk? And also can you recommend a good pedal for punk sound with this amp
rob chappers is playing my exact guitar!!!! thats my guitar!! woooooo!!!
Was that 'Place your Hands' by Reef?
I need a new and better sounding practice amp. Ive got a Marshall MG15 combo, and its not really doing it for me. I love a fat, desert rockish sound, and would love an amp with a little more power then the MG15 - are any of these Orange amps a good fit? I got a few pedals to help me with getting the sound right, but i need something that doesnt freak out when i turn up the volume. The MG15 cant handle that.
Eivind Nyhus what did you end up getting?
Chappers a good friend doesn't let his friend wear a scarf indoors.
Good Lord, I would love that Les Paul.
“It literally went *PUH* and I was like “wut””
Rob @12:31 then the captain,"my daughter has gin...red hair." LoL
Haha... Capt. Lee.. at first I thought "who can have TOO many guitars"..... but you probably really do :)
should i buy this or the line spider? i'm looking for a clear metal tone
This. It might not be very metal on its own but get a good overdrive going in to it and it'll sound fuckloads better than the line spider.
no spider has a horrific high gain sound
Stephen Owen but you can just turn it down i think
QvinHM
I mean gain not volume. Volume makes no difference. With low volume it sounds horrible. That setting also just is horrible no matter how much gain you put in.
Stephen Owen yes the gain, you can turn it down ..i think almost every amp will sound like shit with the gain at max, just my personal opinion
