I watched Tool in Birmingham a few weeks ago. If someone had came on and shredded it wouldn't have fitted the vibe of the gig. Maybe the Prague gig was different.
More likely other people don't have the same ears as you, or me, or anyone. We've all got our own opinions though. Seems a waste of time to ignore that fact. 🙂

He wrote the solo right before the concert started so he probably didn't have time to think of something that fit better. I really agree though, shredding does not fit in with Tool's music.
Plus if you watched his video he made about it he mentions going with a lydian mode and Adam usually plays Phrygian mode pieces so it just doesn't sound right.
