1. Cure - Songs of A Lost World 2. Nick Cave - Wild God 3. Fleet Foxes - Boston Harbor 4. Big Big Train - The Likes of Us 5. Decemberists - As It Ever Was
My Top 5… 1. The Heavy Heavy (acid rawk meets the Mama’s & Papa’s) 2. Jack White (primal urges) 3. La Luz (for fans of Khruangbin) 4. Finom (delicious harmonies) 5. New Age Healers (for fans of Secret Machines)
The Cure is the one that we share for top 10 of the year but I agree that the Camera Obscura, The Decemberists and DIIV were all solid as well. Wasn't really into The Smile's new one or Jack White, though I could certainly hear why fans loved the latter. Just not my kinda thing.
The Smile is definitely one of my favorites of the year. Saw The Decemberists on this tour and it made me enjoy the new album more after seeing it live. Confused by Kendrick Lamar being on an “indie rock” list. Or The Cure for that matter. Cheers ✌🏻
Brigette Calls Me Baby's debut lp 'The Future is Our Way Out' would be near the top of my '24 Indie picks. Fontaines DC's 'Romance' was by far my top. Both meta genre lp's imho...great channel, subscribed!
Cure is my overall #1, but don't have it in this category. I like the DIIV too, but it was just completely buried by so many great albums. Fester's Lucky 13: Indie Rock, Pop & Jangle Pop Bubbling under: Peter Perrett, The Jesus Lizard, Spectres, 6kitty, Tamar Berk, Loose Articles, Erotic Secrets of Pompeii, Humdrum, EggS, Finom, Good Looks, Mt. Misery, St. Vincent, King Hannah, Mary Timony, La Luz. | I have many other genres with blurbs, link in profile or search Fester's Lucky 13. 1. The Sea Kings - Fear is All Around 2. Ducks Ltd. - Harm’s Way 3. The Buttertones - Face to Face With Fantasy 4. Meatbodies - Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom 5. Fontaines D.C. - Romance 6. English Teacher - This Could Be Texas 7. Thus Love - All Pleasure 8. Chime School - The Boy Who Ran the Paisley Hotel 9. Kim Deal - Nobody Loves You More 10. Shellac - To All Trains 11. Mo Dotti - Opaque 12. Aluminum - Fully Beat 13. Jim Nothing - Grey Eyes, Grey Lynn
Some stellar choices there. I absolutely adore that Decemberists album. I plan on doing a podcast episode at the beginning of January with my favorites of the year. Check it out.
