There is no "plan" nor a tactic. What is misunderstood here is that what he did is very normal in the MENA region, its part of the culture to not approach marriage with solely your heart and where the decision includes the whole family, on both sides bloodties are involved since honor and respect is regarded as something your life could hang on. In these cultures if you lose your "face" than it will effect the whole family and they will lose value in the community.
