I had 2 children in span of 3 years by age 28. Had a severe blockage of gallbladder and emergency surgery to remove gallbladder. This was back in 1987. My mother had hers out when she was 26 after 4 babies in 5 years. I saw a magazine article years ago questioning whether or not there is a connection between pregnancy hormones and gallstones. Wish I knew more about the causes and natural treatments instead of removal
Interesting, I had a similar situation. Diagnosed with gallstones at 22, but they would not remove it. Took pills to dissolve them. Fast forward a few years later, had 3 more children every 2 years and massive gallstone issue. They removed it at tied my tubes...my gallbladder burst due to the stone being so large. this was 25 years ago. Over past 25 years I've lost about 130 pounds, gained some back, lost gained, lost, now 40 from goal. I just can't or won't' give up.
Going carnivore was an easy decision, but it's not an easy/uncomplicated journey. I'm newbie to carnivore and today had many questions answered. I am a champion 'cramper' and eat magnesium of all description and still cramp at night and during exercise.. It's been the baine of my life. So mag usage in the body is key, not volume! Thank you for this discussion. My journey continues...
@SunnyBadgr Hi Yes I do. I eat a mix of beef heart and lamb liver. For some strange reason I cannot get beef liver. I have also started taking Taurine as a supplement and mostly my cramping has stopped.
I heard Lillie Kane recently say in an interview that DAY cramping is due to magnesium and NIGHT cramps are due to potassium. And I literally just typed that as the doctor was saying "oh, So and so on the internet said this about cramps So that must be right" 😂
agreed, being very hungry creates cravings for ice cream, etc. LOL. I have recently started eating more often with only 12 hour fasts during the night and feel better with more control.
If you listen properly to the video, there's a lot more to it than weight loss. The reason why Dr. Cywes advises some people to cut back on the fat, and increase meal frequency, is based on their blood results. Some carnivores obviously are not eating the right percentages of macronutrients, which puts them out of whack, and that's what he is addressing.
So true about people trying to sell a product. I totally understand people needing to make money, and people wanting to get rewarded for the work they put in a book, but some are just in it for a quick buck. Here's my perspective, if they are giving me 20% of the information and say, "read my book for the rest," I walk away. If they give me 80% and say, "the more precise details are in my book," I listen to them, then decide. If they give it all to me and say, "here's everything you need but if you want to support me, purchase my book." I'll buy their book. (if the information is pertaining to me.) Dr Berry is a great example this. He tells you everything you need! Same with Dr Chaffee and this Dr. They are here to help and not sell a bunch of supplements with their face on it.
Dr. Cywes, you're one fantastic doctor and human being. You're one open-minded person, you're simply admirable. Thank you for being sincere and realistic to the truth. I look forward to consulting you
Of all the promoters of carnivore diet, this doctor is my favorite. I'm looking forward to reading Judy's Book, which just came into my local library, but I wonder how she reconciles the fact that she sells many supplements on her website with what this doctor is saying here. Also, pleased to hear what he says about the fallacy of oxalates.
I am totally blown away by this talk. Thank you Dr. Cywes for educating us. The one thing I struggle with is electrolyte balance on a low carb diet. I am giving it time for my body to balance itself. But I do have extra salt, magnesium and potassium citrate or my energy slumps very low.
I've been on a carnivore diet for a week and a half but I've added a few vegetables like onions and garlic just for flavoring, but I'm losing too much weight. How do I keep the weight on, on a carnivore diet? I eat two meals a day, (beef & pork, next day- eggs, bacon, & fish., but I can't seem to not lose weight.
I have been struggling with loose bowels and a light yeast infection since going carnivore. This has been going on for a few months. I gave up dairy for March to see if that would help. Nope. I needed this podcast.
@@patrickh709eating a half cup of homemade yogurt each morning helped but when i stopped the loose bowels came back. Working on cutting out coffee to see if that is my issue. And FYI.. it wasn't yeast infection but just a hormone imbalance. Thanks for asking.

I Don't have a gallblatter since 1982 could not eat no vegetables, the pain was horrible, nowone told me Not to eat veggies. Toďay 1 year conivore i feel great. Thank you dr. Chaviss!😊😁😍😘
According to Dr. Stephen Phinney when you lower carbs below 50 grams a day your kidneys stops retaining sodium and dumps it and then potassium. Low carb diets are diuretic in nature. He recommends adding some extra salt and Potassium especially when active as he deals with fat adapted athletes. He also recommends addressing any magnesium deficiency because magnesium is needed for potassium to enter one's cells. If one' is magnesium is deficient it can lead to potassium deficiency. Some people are taking magnesium that is not bioavailable. Think one of the best forms is magnesium glycinate which also does not cause diarrhea. Magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium work together. You need enough of all of them each day. The amount one needs will differ from person to person.
I did carnivore for a few months, I got a little sick of meats so I got off carnivore, I gained back the 14 pounds I lost, and my cholesterol is a little high, I want to go back on the diet but I'm a little nervous because of the 145 total cholesterol, triglycerides 108, and HDL 54 LDL 71. I don't know what to do
@@N16-u8t Get your carbs to as close to zero total carbs per day and you won't have to be concerned about your cholesterol levels. Besides, cholesterol is essential for life. It has been vilified by ignorant and corrupt opportunists.
Boredom on a carnivore diet, can be eliminated by making your meal plan on your calendar. First day, beef and pork, then eggs, bacon, and fish the next day, and then spice it up a little and make different kinds of eggs like boiled, instead of scrambled or fried. Treat yourself occasionally to sausage (with no nitrates and nitrites), and maybe some pork wrapped with bacon. Also, add different kinds of cheeses to any and all of your meals as the meat is getting done, shred some cheese on top and let it melt. Try different kinds of cheese, like goat cheese, guiere, etc.. Have fun with it.
I have experimented with especially magnesium and some potassium and I have terribly painful leg cramps at night without them. I have tried about 10 times. I use salt to taste, plus a bit more since it is summer and I sweat. So if I am just not getting it to my muscles (compartmentally challenged) , how do I get it to go there? I have only been carnivore for 12 weeks so am definitely not a veteran carnivore:)
It never used to be ! Problem was we were inundated with marketing companies since the fifties wanting to get rich and it’s exploded since then I agree it’s complicated but we have to weed though it all for our health
I will have to go back and listen to the whole video again. I started LCHF almost 2 years ago. At one point, my blood work was getting better (except LDL which elevated almost immediately and getting higher and higher as I eat less carbs). My last A1C was higher (5.8), 2 hours postprandial blood glucose also elevated. It makes a lot of sense what Dr. Cywes said in this video. I will have to adjust what I eat and how I eat.
@@johnf.hebert1409 add back some healthy carbs such as blueberries, manuka honey (just a tiny bit each time) and sweet potatoes. Relaxed my intermittent fasting window. Just had my blood work done and found out I have hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue so reduced exercise to walking and light aerobic (keep heart rate under 120) and avoid exhaustion. So far fiver prick blood test are within normal range. Have to wait a few month to test A1C and lipid panel again.
Second vid I have stumbled up with Dr Cywes - very enlightening!!! Thank you so much. I have been pondering how one can actually help people with blood / bio feedback tests to help people start to look at their metabolic health much much earlier in their lives. Not found anyone in Joburg or SA for that matter that can do this. I would love to be involved in setting this up in South Africa, their is a massive need, of course, lol..... I am in South Africa. Thank you.
I so enjoy listening to both of you… most is over my head! But I’m slowly soaking it in. My ? … I have psoriasis, palms and soles, and I’ve been researching salt. What I understand is salt severely effects T 17 cells to cause autoimmune issues. Doing carnivore is my journey but I’m truly trying to heal this disease. I love salt but I’m so confused! Help!
I’ve been strict carnivore for 60 days. I have severe leg cramps at night if I wake up and stretch, every time. I’ve never had a cramp in my life. What else besides electrolytes??
Oh, goodness me, l wish l had known this when I had my gall bladder removed in 1991 and was advised to go fat-free. I lived fat-free and became sick with all kinds of illnesses. I went on keto three years ago and have been doing well health wise . Thanks Doc
Excellent video! Thanks very informative as im a relatively new switch to mostly animals based diet which has correct a couple health issues from years of high carb and vegetables.
Could the people you describe with global fat distribution, diabetic with high testosterone, PCOS etc possibly have Dercum's Disease as a opposed to Lipedema? I have been diagnosed as having Lipedema but I am effected in the arms and stomach as well as legs. My half sister and mother both have the hypermobility (possible Elhers Danos that can go along with Lipedema) whereas I don't. I have diabetes that is diet controlled as does my mother but my sister does not. I have had high testosterone in the past and PCOS and have lipomas. Dr Karen Herbst has being doing some research into trying to separate these two diseases and androgens seem to be a factor.
Great content! One small mention though, carnivores sometimes eat the belly first simply because they feel that is the vulnerable spot of their prey, and attack there first. It’s like when you have a piece of whole fish with spine on your plate, you start with the softer parts first, not going for the little meat covering the bone.
*it sounds like what you're saying, (around 46ish) is that too much protein will raise blood sugar and that will turn into triglycerides (will it be stored as fat?), but I also hear that this rise in blood sugar (gluconeogensis?) shouldn't be worried about too much since that is always demand driven, not supply driven? thoughts?*
Prof Benjamin Bikmann gave a very good presentation a couple years ago about insulin vs glucagon and their relationship with dietary protein. The quick answer is "it depends". Long answer, if you've been fasting, protein absolutely does not go to making blood glucose. If you've been following a ketogenic diet, it probably doesn't trigger gluconeogenesis. If you're eating the Standard American Diet, dietary protein probably does get converted to glucose. It's a good lecture and well worth watching. Hope that helps.
@@craigslitzer4857 hey that helps, thank you! I do still think that lots of protein will raise my blood sugar though, as I do sometimes feel either super tired if I have too much, or if I space it out then very energetic to the point I can't wind down for sleep. Thoughts?
@@Thefitty Tbh, I'm still trying to figure a lot of this out for myself as well. I have noticed similar effects in myself with the tiredness and whatnot, but I have also invested somewhat heavily into blood glucose testing equipment and can say with a reasonable amount of certainty that when I'm eating a meat-only diet my blood sugar never goes above 120 (the units used in USA, mg/dl?). So I'm not sure that it matters a great deal.
@@craigslitzer4857 that's interesting; how have you found your sleep to be on low fat, high protein (if you've done so), and moderate fat high protein? How about high fat moderate protein?
@@Thefitty I don't really keep track of protein vs fat ratios, and my sleep tends to be terrible for other reasons. Can't help much in that regard, sorry. Typically I eat about a pound of meat a day, and if I'm still hungry I'll fill with cheese or a "fake bread" made with coconut flour slathered in butter. If I eat too much too late in the day it can sometimes disturb my sleep.
Not sure about the fat and salt shortages. I know whenever I have too much protein, constipation follows, and with too much fat it goes the other way. Been pretty easy to keep things in line using that measuring stick. I also get headaches when I am not consuming enough salt (or some thing int he salt). I switch between sea salt, kosher salt, table salt and Himalayan salt in my meals to vary the mineral consumption. So far so good at over 100 days. Not sure where fat adaptation comes in, but I believe I'm pretty close, given my decreased appetite and increased energy and function as I continue to lose weight steadily.
Do you see those alarming lab results only in veteran carnivores, or also in ketovores? In people who eat only animal-based, or also in people who also eat vegetables, avocados, nuts and seeds?
Doc. U caught my ear with the comments regarding carnivore and elevated blood sugar. I am keto/im and notice that after i eat sometimes my blood sugar falls - not a big drop but say mid80s to 70s and have also noticed increase of uric acid

Do you eat any organs?
@SunnyBadgr
Hi
Yes I do.
And I literally just typed that as the doctor was saying "oh, So and so on the internet said this about cramps So that must be right" 😂
@@piperuk5366 FWIW, I've had night cramps that disappeared after increasing my magnesium intake!
@piperuk5366 Thanks for info. Will try increase potassium and see what happens.
Dr. Cywes is amazing! Love his work! Thanks for having this discussion! ❤
Dr. , you are so smart! I think you are the best doctor on the internet. Love listening to you even though I don't understand everything you say.
Thank you, you saved me the expense of buying ox bile, and eased my worry about not having a gallbladder.
I think when one reaches the ideal weight then you should still eat the same diet but start eating more than once a day.
agreed, being very hungry creates cravings for ice cream, etc.
Helpful discussion! Dr. cho, I like your interview style! ‘So pleased to hear I won’t need to take ox bile😊
I learned so much. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this talk. I will listen again and take notes.
I want to see more from Dr Cywes regarding Carnivore. This was a very informative chat. Thank you.
Check out his UA-cam channel. I've learned more accurate information from him than I have from anyone else
Hi Judy I really enjoy you and the Dr. Do you perhaps know if he also comes to South Africa? 5:34
Yup. Twice a year
@@robertcywes2966 How can I find out where and when Dr?
I look forward to consulting you
👍🏻❤️ grate job I love to listen to you both 👏🏻
I wish he wouldn't keep interrupting her!
Great* 😊👍
What a great conversation. I appreciate the information, especially the candid delivery 😊
I think that only for beginners to the diet once you're on it for a while you wean off them I believe.
Judy always says that supplements are a temporary bridge when starting from a state of nutritional deficiency
Love it, "we are all learning as we go" 😊
Watched 2nd time and love it
I am totally blown away by this talk. Thank you Dr. Cywes for educating us. The one thing I struggle with is electrolyte balance on a low carb diet. I am giving it time for my body to balance itself. But I do have extra salt, magnesium and potassium citrate or my energy slumps very low.
Thanks for the 1 year or so change date for the insulin lowering phase.
Also thank you Judy Cho🌷
Great video as always. You are looking great Dr. Cywes.
Wow! This is very enlightening!
I have been struggling with loose bowels and a light yeast infection since going carnivore. This has been going on for a few months. I gave up dairy for March to see if that would help. Nope. I needed this podcast.
How are you doing now?
@@patrickh709eating a half cup of homemade yogurt each morning helped but when i stopped the loose bowels came back. Working on cutting out coffee to see if that is my issue. And FYI.. it wasn't yeast infection but just a hormone imbalance. Thanks for asking.
My heals have been numb for a couple of months now on ketovore. Mostly one avocado and meat. I'm going to stop magnesium supplements. It's really hard to figure out our correct balance, which also changes.
I just subscribed.
I Don't have a gallblatter since 1982 could not eat no vegetables, the pain was horrible, nowone told me Not to eat veggies. Toďay 1 year conivore i feel great. Thank you dr. Chaviss!😊😁😍😘
So very helpful! Thank you both!!
Also oxalates/oxalate dumping deplete Mg, Ca etc.
I don't know what to do
Dont eat carbs
My total cholesterol level is 225 and im nervous to go back to carnivore as well :(
@@N16-u8t Get your carbs to as close to zero total carbs per day and you won't have to be concerned about your cholesterol levels.
What an AWESOME talk. THANK YOU. One of the best I've ever seen. Wow
1:00:51 What was the protein to energy ratio?
What happens if we dont have a gullbladder?? I had my gullbladder out at 21 years old. I do eat butter and fatty meat, no problems whatsoever.
I never knew eating could be so complicated.
It never used to be !
Problem was we were inundated with marketing companies since the fifties wanting to get rich and it’s exploded since then
I agree it’s complicated but we have to weed though it all for our health
It's not complicated in the wild!
Eating isn't. Ur body is

I will have to adjust what I eat and how I eat.
what adjustments did you make?
@@johnf.hebert1409 add back some healthy carbs such as blueberries, manuka honey (just a tiny bit each time) and sweet potatoes. Relaxed my intermittent fasting window. Just had my blood work done and found out I have hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue so reduced exercise to walking and light aerobic (keep heart rate under 120) and avoid exhaustion. So far fiver prick blood test are within normal range. Have to wait a few month to test A1C and lipid panel again.
@@bettywhillDon't be stupid. Carbs are toxic to the body.
PS please let me know if there is a way your team can tell me the tests to order from a lab in SA and to send over to your team and get feedback and let your team help me interpret where my metabolic health is at. I am in South Africa. Thank you.
love Dr. Cywes ,what a fantastic interview
1:23:56 I feel terrible unless I consume a lot of salt.
Grateful for all of these informations🤍 thank you so much!
Help!
Lions have to become vegetarian when they grow old..... Loved the humour and humility from both sides in this talk!
I’ve been strict carnivore for 60 days. I have severe leg cramps at night if I wake up and stretch, every time. I’ve never had a cramp in my life. What else besides electrolytes??
Salt and hotsauce
Humans are not carnivores! We are and always been fruit eaters!
Oh, goodness me, l wish l had known this when I had my gall bladder removed in 1991 and was advised to go fat-free. I lived fat-free and became sick with all kinds of illnesses. I went on keto three years ago and have been doing well health wise . Thanks Doc
When you speak of a 70/30 ratio are you including the fat in the meat and eggs or just added fat?
All fat
@@robertcywes2966 Thanks for clarifying.

Wow thank you for sharing your knowledge. Eye opening info!
Yes
1:45:28 It seems unreasonable to say fatigue on carnivore might last 2 years. No! I would absolutely expect to feel much better long before that.
Best bio explanations. Thank you.
Anyone who is insulin sensitive
@@robertcywes2966 That's scary 😱 Only people doing OMAD?
