I think it looks quite good in extreme closeups, in a good machining sort of way. Way too big though. Besides that, the price is way too much. I would price it at $10,000-20,000, as the finishing isn’t quite up to par with other companies in this price point, but every single thing is custom and “interesting.” Still too big of course.
This is a good explanation as to why they cost what they do. Haters will always say they are overpriced and that the market is gonna crash. But it's not gonna crash. Richard Mille team literally build every tool and part and these are high-end complications. These watches will always maintain value. There will be no crash. Wow. Jenni gets her hands on an RM to review! Not many watch UA-camrs would be able to say that! You must be raving in the right circles and doing something right. Thanks for sharing.
RM is beyond traditional ugliness. It has created a category of its own: metaphisycal ugliness. The quintessence of ugliness. With reflections of horror and evil.
Don't get me started on Richard Mille watches. Total hype due to social media influencers. They have a skull watch going for over $2 million now. Most other models are going for over $200,000. Look at the material, movement and rubber strap and tell me these watches are worth even 10% of what grey market dealers are selling them for. Plus the new watches with the rubber band straps look like something you would get out of a cracker jack box.
@@droptuned83 Have you seen and held one in real life? If not, please stop talking about what you don't even have an idea of. You're the last person to have any right to talk shit about something you never even seen other than videos and photos found on the internet.
They're Supreme except with legitimate craftsmanship. Whilst I can respect the latter, you can still get the same artistry from countless other brands for less money. This necessitates individuals buying these watches to show off, not to appreciate the artform. It is for this reason that I don't have respect for most people that wear RM, even if I do respect the work that's gone into them. The designs are therefore ultimately tasteless. And design is (for me at least) the most important thing when evaluating the quality of a timepiece.
My acquaintance has one and I have to say it looks just as rediculos in person as it looks in the pictures. There are so many watches you can get with only a fraction of its cost that don't look like a kinder surprise toy.

I’m not rich, nor do I even have a collection of some sort. I just look at watches because I’m amazed by them. I love RM products. I know they’re overpriced. Have I had a quarter of a million dollars that I don’t know what to do with, would I buy a RM watch? It is a resounding YES. Will I ever own a RM watch in this lifetime? Probably not. I would totally get this not because I want to show off my wealth, nor be a snooty collector of horological timepieces. It is because I appreciate RM’s design aesthetic. His products, to me, is a perfect representation of what my ultimate watch would be or look like. I would get it because it’s a masterpiece in my eyes. I’d stare at every single moving part and marvel at the engineering put into it, and at the same time, admire the artistic side of it.
Richard Mille watches are the most hyped up over price watches. Richard Mille watches will still be expensive in the future because Rich Arab Peninsula princes and businessmen like them
If I had the money to buy a RM, id rather spend it on a Lange or something with heritage. I'm never going to be in the mentality of a super rich individual, but I wear watches for myself not for the adoration of others. Being able to enjoy artistry on my wrist everyday brings me joy, simple as that.
This is clearly the Emperor’s new clothes (watches)...despite what they say, the materials and hours used to manufacture each watch can hardly be justified by their ridiculous price tags.

Why are RM so expensive? Reason 1: Celebrities are promoting it. When celebs promote something it goes up in value. When they stop promoting something it tanks in value.
@Cw Sayre All watch companies literally look like rolex divers, even omega's entire lineup are all rolex clones but with different colors. Its all boring and thats whats wrong with watch brands, they either all look like rolexes or they look like "minimal" watches with nothing on them. There needs to be more choices that actually standout instead of just trying to look like a rolex. Let rolex look like rolex and come up with your own design for once.
This is the most informative video I have seen on RM. I am not particularly into their watches - but I really appreciate the detailed explanation on their craftsmanship here
What people don’t understand is that RM’s are for people who already have every Patek, AP, A.Lange etc. . They want something different, rare, and expensive. I cannot afford an RM, but appreciate that they are pushing the limits of materials and lightness. For now I will stick to my 4 AP’s.
Honestly I think there are WAY too many imperfections in these close up shots than what I would tolerate when spending 200grand on that thing. All the jagges lines etc would drive me crazy. Every real watch enthusiasts would definitely take a Rolex over this thing.
There’s no way in hell that I would take a Rolex over this, Rolex’s are mass produced luxury watches for the public, they’re definetly nice but not as nice as this
I am not in their demographic, so I can't identify with them. Like the others here, I don't think I would buy one regardless even if I were. I would probably get a Tourbillion from one of the trinity for that money. It is definitely an ostentatious display of wealth, which as you say, is the point for their identified client base. You are a great presenter, Jenni. Thank you.
Beautiful Shots of The Watch itself are perfect for those of us who may never see an RM up close ever in their lives...very nice to look at...I believe they are worth their weight in gold..very exquisite timepiece indeed...classified as instruments I'm sure in some cases..making them machines themselves..Well done darling✨🌟💫⌚👀⌚👀✨🌟💫
Number one reason why RM is so expensive is because they pay too much sponsorship for celebrities to wear them. And for those who are willing to pay for them is because they're not cool but wants to look cool
If you are a professional athlete with more money than sense or really want to know what is like for Optimus Prime to sneeze on your wrist then RM is for you!
Richard Mille watches are not only time pieces, you are in a sense buying a piece of art. If I purchased one, it would never be worn on my wrist. It would hang in a secure metal frame in my cardboard box that I live in off the freeway exit due to my homelessness caused by buying such an expensive item.
My take: It’s a Veblen good, meaning demand increases as the price increases, because high price is one of the desirable characteristics in that market. Will it remain up there? A few things will determine that. The first has to do with inequality and dispersion of wealth. If this is high (the very richest are much, much richer than even those slightly beneath them in wealth within the distribution), there will always be a market for status symbols that command price tags light years beyond what most folks would dream. Will it be RM? Depends. If RM increases supply and someone else beats them at their own game, they could trip and fall.
I start to consider RM as really good watchmaker. They don’t look that good on pictures, but when looking on how they elevate the style of their famous wearers, it starts to make sense. It’s a better statement than “icing” an average watch with diamonds just to have something expensive.
I appreciate the engineering but did you say 20 seconds off a month? When I let my Timegrapher record my twenty year old Rolex Explorer ll over five minutes, that watch comes in as off by one second a day. I wonder what number that expensive watch will pull after twenty years.
I can appreciate the technology and craftsmanship that goes into this watch. It is truly amazing (that's why I watched this!). But, it's kind of sad to think that someone will spend the amount of money on a watch that could probably feed a village in a third world country quite well for a couple of years.
Nice explanation! Just can’t stomach all those colors on a single tableau, and although I admire the artistry of skeleton watches, it has never been my cup of tea!
When I think about Richard Mille it brings back memories of a visit to Geneve 2 years ago. In Geneve Richard Mille have their own luxurous shop with beautiful carpets. On a rainy day I walked past their shop and saw Richard Mille so I walked in their shop not realising my shoes were wet. I covered their beutiful carpets with black foot prints. They were a bit angry. And they said you will have to take your shoes off. So I looked at and tried on their watches in my bare feet. Talking about Richard Mille watches I think they aim at a special market. Even if I had that kind of money I would not buy one. They just do not have the look that I would want on my wrist. A side note, they do not keep their value on the used market.
Here's what I thought. RM is a flexing fashion watch for the rich and often fool. If they are smart with money, they'd buy Lange or elses. But then, if someone buy this and know exactly what they bought and it's reasonable for them, then I'd respect them. But as far as I know, I don't have someone like that rn.
when RM made their 1st watch its like growing a banana in the backyard. and during the harvest, he decided to sell one fruit for $1M. and many idiots are buying the banana. and they are the rich people who thinks that if it's expensive, it's good.

As soon as ppl will know about finishing, price will go the same way as a pigeon's droppings. Hopefully for them, their market is not even aware about finishing. I must say there, the quality of your videos are killing it. You can easily seen the dust, de screws that are damaged, the absence of polising in the anglages and so on. However I do understand about a social marker principle and that comes with a price. Well actually THAT is the price. So the most interesting feature in RM watches is the pricetag. Rest is pretty much Timex level. Too much ? right let's say I do consider finishing quality on Rolex movement as well as "habillage" at a much higher level. And I am faaaaar from a Rolex fanboy. I just had one current movement in my hands and I was really impressed by the quality finishing. OK, Rolex movement is designed to allow machine finishing such as diamond tools, which is kind of a shortcut. Theseshortcuts cannot be done on the RM movement you showed us. Too complicated to do so. But still, as a watchmaker, there are things in your close ups that would make me feel ashamed if I were part of this RM watch.
ANALOGY: Owning an RM or paying many thousands for a watch is akin to being a French aristocrat who gets to cut the kings fingernails or wipe his bottom. there no rational reason to want it, except that it is a status symbol.
I get it that RM are trying to sell "the value" and "exclusivity' and not just a wristwatch. But the problem is that not many people realize how much RM watches costs, unless you tell each and every one of them. Most people aren't this much into wristwatches to know the privileges that the RM brand wristwatches brings.
Jenni, you should do a comparison between Black Concept XP1 Tourbillon and RM just to justify whether RM is overpriced due to overhype or not!!! That would be a great video to watch.
Im happy with the watch in my phone. Concerning the price... of course it’s a Hype as long as people are willing to pay those prices the company has the luxury to put out watches in such low volume, lots manual labor fashion. Thusly my RM sits in my watch box waiting for an appropriate event to wear it to, or to be gifted to someone who loves RM but couldn’t get one when they wanted it.
Hello Toby, if you are interested in giving your RM to someone who really wants one, that person would be me. I’ve traded stocks for two years and I started with $600, and I am slowly working my way up the financial ladder to be able to afford an RM one day. If you are ever in need of a recipient, I say in the kindest way possible that I would be a great fit! This comment is mostly a joke, but I’m truly sorry for your loss, and given that this youtube comment is over a year old, I hope you and your family have let time heal such a deep wound. Cheers 🥂

They came into the game with the perfect setup and will be here for decades and decades to come

RM is beyond traditional ugliness. It has created a category of its own: metaphisycal ugliness. The quintessence of ugliness. With reflections of horror and evil.

I have to agree. Some RM designs have an element of grotesque.

Have you seen them in real life? It’s worth the asking price
@@Aztec1050 No they really aren't. Apart from that fact they are hideous too.

Well, in this range of “exclusivity”, I believe it’s possible for RM to sustain the current demand.
The only question is whether or not the brand will stay in fashion with those wealthy enough to purchase them.
I won’t know, or notice. Because I wouldn’t even dream about spending such an amount on a watch (or a feeling) 😊
Thank you for making this video. i always wondered why RM watches were so expensive. Your explanations seem spot on with the biggest contributor being availability.

Why are RM so expensive? Reason 1: Celebrities are promoting it. When celebs promote something it goes up in value. When they stop promoting something it tanks in value.
CASHVILLE876 those are fakes, no thank you
It could cost $10 millions or $10 bucks it's still ugly.

Not all watches should be forced to look like a boring rolex diver.
Let rolex look like rolex and come up with your own design for once.
you are ugly
Or an AP, or Patek
Quit gatekeeping, a real watch enthusiast doesn’t judge someone for what they like
There’s no way in hell that I would take a Rolex over this, Rolex’s are mass produced luxury watches for the public, they’re definetly nice but not as nice as this
Jenni, all your reviews are very well prepared, researched and presented. Great work!
Thank you.

RM watches make me think of the old adage , you may have money , but money cannot buy you class 🤣
Number one reason why RM is so expensive is because they pay too much sponsorship for celebrities to wear them. And for those who are willing to pay for them is because they're not cool but wants to look cool

Hello Hello and Arabs.....
Richard Mille is a sign to show how much you stupid.
I agree but you can make that comparison about thousands of thing's of so called value.
