Or both! 😎
Jay Lebo actually she just request to RM by email to review one of their units and then sent it back, that’s it.
has to be both....
It's for rich black rappers and sports players. They like shiny things.
@Carlos Banegas These are Jenni’s words. I’m not calling her rich or stupid. She’s calling people who buy the watch rich or stupid. I’m agreeing with her.
@CASHVILLE876 Yes, the diamond-encrusted RM replica for $1,400 looks like a genuine quality piece. I’ll take three.
it's the perfect brand to distinguish people with taste in watches from people who just want to show off their money
You Nailed it!!!
Wrong. Just found out one of my colleague has a RM. Turns out he was hiding it from us for years and always tucking it under his sleeves. Not everyone loves to show off
So if I have taste in watches I won’t buy this? Got it lmao
simplyvl lmao how do you hide that giant ass watch under a sleeve?
If the price was around 100k i'd be interested. I just like them because they are basically un-scratchable and you can wear them with casual clothes. I'm not really a fan of some of the models though, just the rm 11-03
I show this to my gf (not a watch fan), and she literally goes “this looks like a g-shock combined with those weird Jacob something watches”. Idk, maybe she’s hit the nail on the head.
But my 11-03 looks better than your gf though lol

Invicta is barely original tho
George Kahingo just look at Franck Muller, there’s the place where RM took the design from.
This watch would be more worth it if it looks the same way it costs. But it doesn’t. I can’t justify a $200K+ watch that looks like a Happy Meal toy.
Haha
lol true that - Happy Meal toy in McD
All those RM celebrities got theirs for free, for advertising. They wouldn’t spend that much on a watch. RM has to pay them to wear it. Even Nadal once admitted the price is ridiculous.
That’s just business though I’m sure they gave them 1 free watch but after that I’m sure they buy the watches. And the resell prices always are ridiculous. I’ll have one in 5 years hopefully.
guesswhat those brands dont need to advertise their products just like ferrari or lambo bugattihave you ever seen a bugatti comercial on tv
@@carlossosa2940 Bugatti doesn't advertise on tvbecause that's not their demographic. Same reason RM doesn't advertise on tv. What's your point?
@@antoniopowell3732 doubt that they pay a penny or could care less about those things. When you get paid to wear something the value of it is worthless for you.

Not even worth 10% of the price. They are popular because they are expensive, people tend to be attracted to things that no one else can afford/find
Samme that’s why the luxury market exist, this will continue happening forever!
I wish it wasn't true, But youre spot on.
@@jorgem.t3297 luxury is what maybe 5 to10% of the people can afford or are willing to pay. Think Rolex, obviously. RM is quite simply conspicuous, and obscene, consumption at it's most flagrant.
Not to say they're not well made watches, I have no doubt they are. But to spend more on a watch than most of us spend on our home is the height of conspicuous consumption, and I'm as pro capitalism as it gets.
On the flip side, when your target demo is overpaid rappers and jocks with very limited "productive years" and not known for making the soundest financial decisions, it may not be long before they're unloading these for pennies on the dollar. What goes first, the RM or the Bentley? Only time will tell.

Richard Mille watches are extremely resistant to high g forces which is why golf players wear them while playing
@@adawg3032 Edit: PGA golf players. A thousand times cheaper watch from Invicta is at the same looks level as RM.
RM is beyond traditional ugliness. It has created a category of its own: metaphisycal ugliness. The quintessence of ugliness. With reflections of horror and evil.

I inherited mine after a close family member passed away. I did not like the attention I received wearing it as a daily watch. I do like the design and the uniqueness of it. However, there are other more subtle yet elegant watches that I like for daily office wear. Thusly my RM sits in my watch box waiting for an appropriate event to wear it to, or to be gifted to someone who loves RM but couldn’t get one when they wanted it.
Hello Toby, if you are interested in giving your RM to someone who really wants one, that person would be me. I’ve traded stocks for two years and I started with $600, and I am slowly working my way up the financial ladder to be able to afford an RM one day. If you are ever in need of a recipient, I say in the kindest way possible that I would be a great fit! This comment is mostly a joke, but I’m truly sorry for your loss, and given that this youtube comment is over a year old, I hope you and your family have let time heal such a deep wound. Cheers 🥂

Thank you for making this video. i always wondered why RM watches were so expensive. Your explanations seem spot on with the biggest contributor being availability.
I think it looks quite good in extreme closeups, in a good machining sort of way. Way too big though. Besides that, the price is way too much. I would price it at $10,000-20,000, as the finishing isn’t quite up to par with other companies in this price point, but every single thing is custom and “interesting.” Still too big of course.
The most over-rated and over-priced watch brand ever existed on earth
Richard mille is a really intelligent french guy: he understood how to make big money; create an average plastic watch and:
-put much much Much money on advertising in luxury magazines first,
-give some pieces as presents to famous sportsmen, rappors etc and hope they'll show off to ( famous)friends and medias, to be shot by paparrazzis, gossip reporters...
-sell it overpriced to convince anybody it worth it ( there are psychological tests that proves that average people are convinced expensive= good quality)
When you see a genuine watch enthousiasts collection as Jean claude biver's, you cannot see any Richard mille watch among it because M biver for example knows RM watches don't deserve even having a look on it.
@@gyggugug4717 Thanks for all the insights and business stories :)
Looks depends on person's view. I personally LOVE IT pretty much more than any other watchmaker, because of it's uniqueness and racecar/modern art inspired looks, while every other watchmaker sticks to the same 100 y/o recipe, producing BORING watches. Don't forget, that the legendary now AP Royal Oak, when first came was considered UGLY and too much. Although RM is currently overpriced imo, everyone's paying premium, yet they keep flooding the market with new ones. It's a bubble and it's gonna pop sadly.
It's not overrated, mate. I mean come on, ever seen the watch's details' blueprints. It's crazy look it up!
8pm GMT livestream!! - which drops are coming up this week and which bots will take stock?
Surprised at some of the hate here. Sure the prices are absurd. Sure it’s overhyped and butchered by celebs. But some of the watches are absolutely insane. The Nadal RM27’s movement is suspended by cables and the entire watch with strap weighs LESS THAN 19 grams. 19 grams people! The engineering and innovation for just those two things is mind blowing to me. Forget even the shock resistance. I just bought the lightest square g shock money can buy ($200) with titanium and carbon fiber and it’s still well over double the RMs weight at 45g. And it’s not even a mechanical watch...
Thoughtful remark. Thank you.
mechanical watches aren't accurate though

Just discovered your channel earlier this week, and your videos have such high production value as well as a great balance of information, opinion, and insight. Hands down my new favorite watch UA-camr; keep up the amazing work!
This is a good explanation as to why they cost what they do. Haters will always say they are overpriced and that the market is gonna crash. But it's not gonna crash. Richard Mille team literally build every tool and part and these are high-end complications. These watches will always maintain value. There will be no crash. They came into the game with the perfect setup and will be here for decades and decades to come

Big watches are the best
RM: Hold my beer.
Richard Mille is overpriced for the sake of being overpriced
They're Supreme except with legitimate craftsmanship. Whilst I can respect the latter, you can still get the same artistry from countless other brands for less money. This necessitates individuals buying these watches to show off, not to appreciate the artform. It is for this reason that I don't have respect for most people that wear RM, even if I do respect the work that's gone into them. The designs are therefore ultimately tasteless. And design is (for me at least) the most important thing when evaluating the quality of a timepiece.
Richard Mille watches are not only time pieces, you are in a sense buying a piece of art. If I purchased one, it would never be worn on my wrist. It would hang in a secure metal frame in my cardboard box that I live in off the freeway exit due to my homelessness caused by buying such an expensive item.
Richard Mille is a sign to show how much you stupid.
Brilliant video, thanks for explaining!
Well, in this range of “exclusivity”, I believe it’s possible for RM to sustain the current demand.
The only question is whether or not the brand will stay in fashion with those wealthy enough to purchase them.
I won’t know, or notice. Because I wouldn’t even dream about spending such an amount on a watch (or a feeling) 😊

@@No-bi3pb ohh shoot my bad sorry sir
Very nicely produced video. Great lighting and great macro shots of the watch. There is much to learn from the presentation on this channel. I figure that Richard Mille produces pieces of horological art that are .... so obviously by his house. You know from 10 yards that it's a Richard Mille. It's this fusion of art and very high engineering excellence that make these pieces attractive to the super rich. The super rich buy art, it's what they do.. Most often they can only put it in their house or yacht where not so many folks can see it. But this is art they can wear. Art they can show off. That's powerful. For this reason Richard Mille is here to stay in the same way Hockney and Monet haven't gone anywhere. Nice video. Great channel.
Although I hear and agree with most of what you are saying, I have to disagree with some. Any product that is heavily endorsed by rappers, celebrities and athletes will not popular for long. Within the next couple of months, these individuals would be on to the next hot trend. Therefore, the popularity declines plus the outrageous prices of these time pieces will cause its decline while Patek, Vacheron and F.P. Journe which are less heavily endorsed will maintain there elite status among the elite.
This is clearly the Emperor’s new clothes (watches)...despite what they say, the materials and hours used to manufacture each watch can hardly be justified by their ridiculous price tags.
Same can be said about AP (which you clearly like), what's your point?!
I ALMOST got a RM in London in 2019- I was standing there with my fiancee and looking and I pointed at one and said that one- Nicole said- 1 those are ugly and that was enough and then 2 she said you have never looked any thing like this before you don't want it- She is brilliant. turns out she was not brilliant, but a fool because these watches have doubled in price from the time you laid your eyes on them. note to self - don't get financial advice from your fiancee.

Not all watches should be forced to look like a boring rolex diver.
@Cw Sayre All watch companies literally look like rolex divers, even omega's entire lineup are all rolex clones but with different colors. Its all boring and thats whats wrong with watch brands, they either all look like rolexes or they look like "minimal" watches with nothing on them. There needs to be more choices that actually standout instead of just trying to look like a rolex. Let rolex look like rolex and come up with your own design for once.

Love when you said you can even buy this RM watch with that sarcastic smile
My take: It’s a Veblen good, meaning demand increases as the price increases, because high price is one of the desirable characteristics in that market. Will it remain up there? A few things will determine that. The first has to do with inequality and dispersion of wealth. If this is high (the very richest are much, much richer than even those slightly beneath them in wealth within the distribution), there will always be a market for status symbols that command price tags light years beyond what most folks would dream. Will it be RM? Depends. If RM increases supply and someone else beats them at their own game, they could trip and fall.
Why I would want this watch when I could have a more complicated and superior movements from other brands with long watch making history.
Most logical statement of all the comments.

Number one reason why RM is so expensive is because they pay too much sponsorship for celebrities to wear them. And for those who are willing to pay for them is because they're not cool but wants to look cool
Jenni, all your reviews are very well prepared, researched and presented. Great work!

Michael Bay movies are very popular in the US. I am just saying...

I have a timex myself spent 20 bucks on it. Been going strong many years now but I did have to a few batts in it. The battery cost more then the watch. Did I tell you about my classic Shelby though?
I can appreciate the technology and craftsmanship that goes into this watch. It is truly amazing (that's why I watched this!). But, it's kind of sad to think that someone will spend the amount of money on a watch that could probably feed a village in a third world country quite well for a couple of years.

Which model is the popular for one for their brand ?
"0:24 three reason", the finger gesture reminds me of the Quentin Tarantino -Inglorious Basterds scene.
I am not in their demographic, so I can't identify with them. Like the others here, I don't think I would buy one regardless even if I were. I would probably get a Tourbillion from one of the trinity for that money. It is definitely an ostentatious display of wealth, which as you say, is the point for their identified client base. You are a great presenter, Jenni. Thank you.
I heard the screws fall out easily. Is that true ?
What people don’t understand is that RM’s are for people who already have every Patek, AP, A.Lange etc. . They want something different, rare, and expensive. I cannot afford an RM, but appreciate that they are pushing the limits of materials and lightness. For now I will stick to my 4 AP’s.
Honestly I think there are WAY too many imperfections in these close up shots than what I would tolerate when spending 200grand on that thing. All the jagges lines etc would drive me crazy.
Every real watch enthusiasts would definitely take a Rolex over this thing.
Or an AP, or Patek
Quit gatekeeping, a real watch enthusiast doesn’t judge someone for what they like
There’s no way in hell that I would take a Rolex over this, Rolex’s are mass produced luxury watches for the public, they’re definetly nice but not as nice as this
I appreciate the engineering but did you say 20 seconds off a month? When I let my Timegrapher record my twenty year old Rolex Explorer ll over five minutes, that watch comes in as off by one second a day. I wonder what number that expensive watch will pull after twenty years.
I like how her video goes. It's smooth and classy
R. Milles should come with a megaphone so, when you walk down the street, you can shout, “Look at me! Look at my watch!! Can you believe this thing??? It’s goddamn huge!! You won’t believe how much I spent on it!! I’m considerably richer than you!!”
imagine wearing it and people think you are wearing a fake
A huge possibility.
Why are RM so expensive? Reason 1: Celebrities are promoting it. When celebs promote something it goes up in value. When they stop promoting something it tanks in value.
CASHVILLE876 those are fakes, no thank you
Okay, you've finally sold me on Richard Mille. Now give me some money for one
As soon as ppl will know about finishing, price will go the same way as a pigeon's droppings. Hopefully for them, their market is not even aware about finishing. I must say there, the quality of your videos are killing it. You can easily seen the dust, de screws that are damaged, the absence of polising in the anglages and so on.
However I do understand about a social marker principle and that comes with a price. Well actually THAT is the price. So the most interesting feature in RM watches is the pricetag. Rest is pretty much Timex level. Too much ? right let's say I do consider finishing quality on Rolex movement as well as "habillage" at a much higher level. And I am faaaaar from a Rolex fanboy. I just had one current movement in my hands and I was really impressed by the quality finishing. OK, Rolex movement is designed to allow machine finishing such as diamond tools, which is kind of a shortcut. Theseshortcuts cannot be done on the RM movement you showed us. Too complicated to do so. But still, as a watchmaker, there are things in your close ups that would make me feel ashamed if I were part of this RM watch.
I’m not rich, nor do I even have a collection of some sort. I just look at watches because I’m amazed by them. I love RM products. I know they’re overpriced. Have I had a quarter of a million dollars that I don’t know what to do with, would I buy a RM watch? It is a resounding YES. Will I ever own a RM watch in this lifetime? Probably not. I would totally get this not because I want to show off my wealth, nor be a snooty collector of horological timepieces. It is because I appreciate RM’s design aesthetic. His products, to me, is a perfect representation of what my ultimate watch would be or look like. I would get it because it’s a masterpiece in my eyes. I’d stare at every single moving part and marvel at the engineering put into it, and at the same time, admire the artistic side of it.
"Damn right my watch is ugly! But I have so much money I can spend $250,000 on a watch that looks like something a basic bro would wear!"
5:22 Great watch! But there is a lot of dust in the case .
one of their automatics is a movement from vaucher that costs around 1500 dollars to me and you. its sold in a titanium case for 120k dollars.
