Crazy $500,000 Richard Mille For Just $1,500 | Watchfinder & Co.

- In March of 2017, at a Christie’s auction in Dubai, a Richard Mille RM 012 sold, with fees, for over half a million dollars. The 2006 watch, replete with its signature tonneau case and skeletonised tourbillon movement, smashed the estimate and became a benchmark for Richard Mille’s status as a collector’s brand. All very well for the lucky few with a half-mill to spend, but what about the rest of us who only have a fraction of that? Well, that same year marked the founding of Zeroo Time, a Japanese outfit that decided to offer 80% of the experience of that RM 012 for well under a percent of the price. Have they succeeded?

Richard Mille are the NFTs of the watch world. Expensive and nobody sees the point.
I have a feeling when the ultra rich that collects these watches also realizes this, there are going to be great losses and RM's will be the next Franck Muller.
@@stemikger What happened to Frank Muller?
Fit for cereal packets..bath time coming
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 if there is a brand that doesn't need to fake those things is RM... I mean, for those prices they could literally use whatever there is and still make huge profits
It's kind of a shame, because everything I've read says that RM's technical specs are legitimately terrific. Too bad the overall design is gaudy as hell (no wonder actors and pro athletes love them) and the finishing tends to look like something that would get rejected on a quality control inspection of a Seiko 5.
Fun fact: Even if you sold both your kidneys you wouldn't have enough money to buy an RM, each kidney is worth around 35k, at most you can buy a nice 18karat day date
I have a guy offering me 300k for one of my livers. I’m seriously considering it. 🤔
@@treedillinger5801 you have more than one liver?
@@brien1254 wait, what? …so you’re saying this guy is trying to rip me off?? 😳🤬
@@treedillinger5801 human liver is cutted in a required size (mostly half) and then transplanted to the other body, that's how liver transplant works if you donate your whole liver you would die
Man. You guys are slow. This is no fun 😐
The really interesting thing about this is how the build quality actually looks better than your close-ups of the $1 million RM with all it’s dinged up flathead screws and tooling marks.
I’m actually impressed with the finish. It looks pretty clean.
Normally open work dials and movements from anywhere make me nervous to be as everything is on display and you will eventually find a fault but damn this one looks clean!
Yeah, the finishing looked surprisingly okay on everything except for the tourbillon itself, for obvious reasons (finishing the parts of a tourbillon must be notoriously difficult).
Looks as good as many seen at that magnification! Imagine it finished at much higher spec for say 10-15k, would still be amazing value!
I saw burrs and rolled edges. Machinist experience seeing that. It's what you get from China. More expensive watch won't have those defects
Same defects and rolled edges you find in a Richard Mille.
The biggest selling point to this is the fact it’s a genuine brand not a fake… and as such Zero should be applauded at trying to make these engineering wonders available to people who still need their internal organs.
If the ever make a Patek-philippe type torbilliin … I’ll get one in a heartbeat.
Mine not someone else’s…!
it costs very little to make a watch nowadays. you use a CAD controlled laser cutter to make the tonneau case. then assemble using a stock movement and other parts. it would cost less than US$1000 to make the RM-012 in platinum and with all the fancy amenities
They do have a double tourbillon.
@@redcapitalist platinum is over $1k an ounce. You aren't making a platinum watch for $1k.
@@redcapitalist Are you aware of how rare and expensive platinum is? A rose gold AP Royal Oak chronograph with a rubber strap weighs approximately 160 grams. Platinum weighs more than AP’s rose gold, so we’ll assume the RM-12 weighs 160 grams. At $1,000 per ounce, you’re looking at approximately 5.5 ounces of platinum, or at least $5,500. Add in all the other stuff and you’re looking at way more than $1,000. Also, you’re presupposing the person who did all of this work also knows how to assemble a watch and get everything to work. Lastly, if you assume that Richard Mille is simply ripping off their customers by charging what they do for their watches, you don’t understand anything about the brand such as who founded it, what technological advancements they’ve made, what contributions they’ve made towards horology, etc. I don’t like RM’s designs but game recognize game.
@@omg_stoppit you don't understand jack about horology or technology. mechanical watches are obsolete technology. only stupid people like you would think that machine made mechanical watches are worth anything. rolex makes a million of them per annum - they are worthless, easy to make and technologically backward. now if you're going to sit there and try and argue that richard mille contributed something to horology by making a stock watch with oversized buttons, then sit there and go down with the rest of western civilization. because with that kind of debaucherous consumerist mindset, that's where you guys are headed
You have absolutely crushed it in this review! It’s exactly what many of your viewers and watch fans want to see and what the high end brands want to keep hidden.
Oh cmon high end companies don’t care.. you don’t understand the sphere of people buying Richard miles.
@@EternalInfusion exactly. nobody buying a Mille cares about it. They want the RM. Thats the appeal.

I have never loved RMs, but something about this watch is actually beautiful. AND it's more affordable?? Amazing
I think it’s RMs insane pricing that tends to turn people off given what the watch offers. If RMs were priced in the 20-40k range there would be a very different feeling in the watch community about the brand.
@@Itssconnorr Not only, its kind of a Love it or hate it Watch, personally i've seen some at a dealer, can't say i was really impressed, not a fan of the design, but thats to each its own preference
I love the RM but I hate it's price
Frankly, no RM deserves to cost more than that anyways.
It's actually a lot nicer looking and more readable than most RMs though.
That was funny. I do like classic tonneau shaped watches, but RM is always a divisive topic. Advocates say that the material is fantastic and the finish impeccable, but still, they do look like toys. If you think about it, the last brand that went all in on this case format was Frank Muller, and it seems to have gone downhill.
@@anthonystewart677, Most certainly more readable than any of their limited editions, where you literally cannot see the hands, as they get lost in all the crazy colour on the dial.
@@NatiiixLP Yeah, I imagine they give you that Wall-Eye vision if trying to focus for too long.
@@juniorgallo8786 lots of RM are made out of plastic. Some rich people just like to buy things Because they are expensive and not because they are worth it and then try to justify it.
Honestly, even if I had the money to buy a RM, id buy this over a RM anyday, much more aesthetically appealing to me and extremely cheap. Amazing piece

Actually a reasonable price. A $500,000 watch is an embarrassment that I would be incredibly ashamed of.
You and me are not there target, there plenty of watches with this kind of price that are sold to rich people
nobody expects a pissrandom to purchase a 500k watch anyway, they are not made and then sold, they are only made because the manufacturer already knows someone rich enough whos going to buy it
I know a guy who paid $150,000 for a waterfall resin dining-room table that took 2 guys 2 days to pour.
My point is, a fool and his money are easily parted. Like red-cap Republicans... they'll buy gaudyAF Pedo-FILAs, they'll buy tRump flavored Odor Toilet, they'll buy worthless NFT's and they'll buy tRump stocks that are essentially worthless. Richard Melle has no trouble finding rubes.
This looks insane tbh. I went to their website and they have this one in red and black. One of the cleanest looking pieces I’ve seen at that price point
Whether you like the watch or not the very fact that it's possible at this price is remarkable and to be applauded.
Possible to make? It’s possible to make money selling at a fraction of the cost. Watches ur buying a brand not a product bud
Today's price is closer to $2,500. Interesting for sure. If I could see it in person, feel it touch it, I'd definitely consider adding this to my collection. It looks super interesting. I don't have any tourbillon's, would love to have one.
Dont
At some point, I'd really like to buy a tourbillon watch, and there are two that I am looking really hard at. One of them is this one, and the other is the Xeric Halograph Tourbillon. I'd also like to say that Zeroo makes some surprisingly pretty watches for their price point.

same haha,it looks more stylish and less screamish
Absolutely
of course you it’s what your bank account can afford
Love your reviews of watches like this
how long are the straps? the brand owner said that the max wrist size is 195mm but that seems smaller than average for brands. Usually my big wrists (216mm) can still get the last hole in straps.
I'll be honest, I like this more than the rm12 in most ways. The case design is to me far superior. The use of more saphire on the sides and holes in the "chin" and "forehead" really help visually lighten it, but of course the movment of the rm looks cooler with the struts and three dementonality.
I feel the only things it'd take to make this watch perfect for the price would be a noncircular movement and a smaller crown or even one that can collapse down into the side of the case to really focus on the shape of the watch and make it look more balanced.

A brilliant piece of human engineering, and at such an affordable price. How many are there in production. Mass produced? Is it better to own the real Mona Lisa or a perfect reproduction. Modern watches are beautiful, but production is by machines and only limited by the manufacturer based on supply and demand. Hand assembled in Japan tries to overcome the perception of generic mass production. Vintage watches were hand made and hand assembled, each a little different and each unique. You decide which is a better investment. Maybe best to own one of each, one old and one new. Thank you for the video!
There are pieces of fake furniture namely Chipendale that an expert may say is actually better executed than the real piece.A fake is a fake but it doesnt follow that it is of poorer quality?

There are already some homages for RM. Zerotime watches seems to run some crowdfunding campaigns to finance production of their pieces in China, so basically you have a watch that is potentially non serviceable, a unnecessary risk. For the price you can get a good watch that's not trying to be something it's not.
Agree. Homages are fine for $100-$150 - (own 2 since Rolex refuses my money) north of that you can get some solid microbrands.

@@WestCoastAce27 I'm fond of Tissot. Generally speaking they're great watches for the price these days. I have a neovintage (I mean, almost 20 years) heritage porto 1925 in solid gold, tonneau shaped case and Peseux 7001 hand winding movement, small seconds. It's not a super hot watch for the market but it's so simple and beautiful and accurate. But it's from 2002-2003 when gold was cheaper, good movements were easier to source and good automatic watches were attainable for a middle-class worker. They didn't spare on gold back then, it's a heavy case. I wouldn't have the funds to pay for an equivalent in covid/shortage/expensivegold 2021 that's for sure. Thans for the feedback, man. Nice to talk.
