The more I listen to episodes of "The life of Riley" the more it grows on me. I wasn't sure about the first one that I listened to, but that was because I'm a Brit who was listening to comedy about American sports. However, since then I've heard a few more, and this one was absolutely brilliant. I'm a convert. 😄
Wow ! Double wow !! Triple Wow !!! We have a local radio station that used to broadcast old radio shows back in the late 70s & early 80s. One of my faves was "The Life of Riley" ! Wonderful cast & writing ! Thank you so very much for uploading for us to enjoy ! These glorious "blasts from the past" are so much fun to listen to ! CHEERS !! :-)
This episode was initially produced on TV, in slightly different form (with Jackie Gleason as "Riley") in March 1950 [in fact, when the cover of "Milady Jezebel" was shown, the author was identified as "Irving Brecher"- the show's creator/producer/head writer].

Back in the day, that “Lucy” character being 23 years old and unmarried, would be considered “on the shelf”, in other words, females at that age being unmarried were considered “old maids”. They were pitied openly AND pitied harshly behind the “old maids” backs. wado,Ann Benson.
Not necessarily. I know many ppl. from this time. During World War II it is true the trend was to marry young but there were plenty of ppl. who weren't married at 23.

They used to have all the "life of riley" episodes. What happened to them all, it seems like youtube removed them or something.
Written by Irving Brecher (he was also the show's head writer, yet didn't want any writing credit on radio), Reuben Ship and Alan Lipscott.
"What a revolting development this is!" Lol!
