I really love these, they don't have coarse language. The story is engaging, the characters have wonderful diction. Cheers Rosemary Perth Western Australia (70 yrs)
Oh damn you Chesterton Radio. It's 2.00AM in the morning, im supposed to be asleep and ive found another classic. Now im wide awake. Bad Chesterton, but thankyou immensely. Louise Australia 🇦🇺 😊😊
Totally with you, Barbara 👍 we are in our 6th lockdown too just south of the border here in Melbourne. Radio dramas are helping to keep me sane. thankyou mr C!! (I mean there are only so many times I can polish the coffee table and make so many crochet granny squares without your terrific dramas to listen to,hehe) 😘
Indeed. But they were from a generation of actors who had spent many years in Rep before graduating to Radio / TV and film. Unlike today's crop - who seemingly go straight from Drama School to " stardom " ! Their complete lack of technique is apparent as soon as they actually attempt to do any genuine "acting ' !
Another absolute gem. Thank you, Chesterton radio ! I am housebound and find these plays such great entertainment, so you can imagine how much they mean to me.
Helps where I am too but Liverpool sounds so mundane compared to Montana, Namibia and where I've been a couple of times South Africa. I hope this finds u all well?
I am so sorry for your loss. May the peace of God which passes all human understanding comfort you until you are reunited with all your loved ones for eternity in Heaven. From the USA.
Such a wonderful "Theater of The Mind" I barely realized the July 4th Fireworks were going on outside ! 😊. Allison Ploden's voice could charm a menagerie of dwarfs into doing her bidding. Delightful !
I don't usually listen to or view adaptations because of the way the plots are changed. However, this scriptwriter did a very good job sticking to the plot as it was written. "Henrietta Who?" is one of my favorite books by Catherine Aird. Thanks so much for giving me an enjoyable listening experience!
I really enjoy the stories they are a very pleasant alternative to television and I don't have any books to read so this is a great way to get stories that I never knew excited
Well that has convinced me that a life in c.i.d. was not for me because yet again I failed to predict the murderer . Many thanks Chesterton Radio for another gem.
Ms Plowden sadly passed away in 2007 at the age of 76. From the early 60s until late 70s she wrote many historical plays for the BBC. Mainly based on the Tudor / Elizabethan Age . Her " crime " output was much smaller but included this entertaining little gem . ( Broadcast in 1973 )
Thanks Uncle Chesterton......I really Enjoyed that one. it was a PLEASURE. Pity about the 8 hour long denouement ha'. Oh ! and -BTW-don't forget Uncle Chesterton......it's the All-Hinterton and Lower Brockton Stone-Skipping 'Festi' this weekend and my Lottie has made-up the back bedroom for you and Auntie Elvira ( and made some of that Date and Cheese curry that you and Aunt Ellie enjoy so much ) .....see you tomorrow Unc.
I was a little lost . I have always had difficulty keeping characters' names and identities straight so thought it was just my usual confusion! Hi from Oz! 👇🙃💜
This is a Saturday Night Theatre drama production from Saturday, 13th October, 1973 adapted by Alison Plowden from the novel by Catherine Aird (source Genome). A woman is found on a roadside bend presumably the victim of a "hit and run" driver. The victim is identified by her daughter, Henrietta. However, a little later, the pathologist rings the Police Inspector and is adamant that couldn't possibly be the case, as the deceased had never had children...oh....and the contents of her writing bureau had been evidently disturbed by a burglar looking for something important to the interloper and just before Henrietta's 21st birthday. Features Ciaran Madden as the eponymous Henrietta Who ? of the title and Alan Rowe as Inspector Sloan with a young Nigel Anthony as PV Crosby.
Uncle Jim had a million acre ranch in Mentone in the West Texas Panhandle. What with the gas and oil leases, for his lifetime much of that was leased to big drilling companies. It turned out his lawyer and cousin scimmed a fortune over the years. Jim did not know as he was still a multi millionaire. Unlike this work of fiction, no one was done in to get access to his fortune.
Yes they are great but those stupid annoying tamu ads means one can never freak hear the end unless you get up and press 'skip' Do these people realise that for causing such repetitive annoyance you kill anyone's interest in the product. It's a real killer.
Really. You mean the police taking charge and explaining and investigating? Clearly someone should EXPLAIN what MANSPLAINING is, This is a work of fiction, Relax.
I enjoy listening to these plays when I’m doing housework. It makes the job go quicker so that can only be a good thing!!
I really love these, they don't have coarse language. The story is engaging, the characters have wonderful diction. Cheers Rosemary Perth Western Australia (70 yrs)

Nice intro. For 1 minute.
These aren't the Who's in Whoville who like Christmas a lot.
Not a real spoiler, just bemused.
Few minutes in.... Willful ignorance on the part of the author; adoption never crosses any characters minds. Hmmmm 🤔
I was JUST going to say that! 😉
It was the 'there are no fingerprints' then 'it's covered in fingerprints'.... 🤔.
But I've enjoyed this.
Good wishes x
I loved the music at the beginning. Does anyone know who wtote it?

Nice story but Wow! “Free, white, and 21.” Forgot how much ignorance there was still at the time.
