  • Here are ten mods I have made to my DD Frontline XL Hammock.
    I absolutely love my Frontline hammock from DD but I saw there was very little out there in the youtube world when it comes to the XL model.
    That being said enjoy this video of me taking you through just some of the mqny modifications and upgrades you can make to the XL Frontline Hammock and others in the DD range too.
    Enjoy folks! 👊🏽😎

    Let me know what modifications you have made to your Hammocks?
    Are going to take any of these mods or upgrades away for your hammock too?

      Def gonna incorporate glow in dark cord to bugmesh zips - was always a pain in the wee small hours faffing about trying to find Hennesy Hammock zips - something I'm sure is common to most (all?) hammocks.

    Just bought one of these, and watched a few videos, this was the best, and I'll definitely do some of these mods.

    I use Daisy chain tree straps and clip my carabiner through whichever loop I want for the right tension. The spare loose end of the strap acts as a drip strip too. Plus the strap grips the tree 360° and won’t creep down the trunk like yours can when you get in and out.
    I use a DD4x4 tarp with my XL and it’s so nice to have a large dry living space for cooking etc.
    My friend sometimes camps with me with his XL too, so we pitch our hammocks in a V shape which is great for sitting and socialising with a small fire between us to cook on, all under the one tarp.😊

    As a big bloke myself I am encouraged by your vid. I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of my DD Frontline XL as a replacement to my now ruined Hennesy Hammock (small hole became tear became catastrophic tear). Already have the DD hammock under-blanket and a massive Hennesy XL tarp so hope that I'll soon have the perfect kit for summer camping/hiking. Well done sir!

      Ooooo nice! With that big xl Tarp that sounds like a decent set up...
      Yeah 6ft4 and 18ish stone I'm more than fine in the XL frontline I love it, it's like a suspended tent mate 😀

    Really informative video! Thanks so much. I've been looking at the DD FLXL for so ling now and I'm just hesitant to pull the trigger. You video has helped me make the decision.

    Brilliant mods. I got mine 3 weeks ago and now the Hilleberg is confined to the loft. Only annoying thing for me is that the XL was not offered in coyote brown. Can't beat hammock camping.

    Instead of using velcro straps just zip bugnet up and spin hammock round so now the bug net is under you and your sat on the materiel its self it saves all the faffing on your doing tying it up I do it that way all the time works a treat and once night time comes spin it round again for use of bug net ,good video tho 👍

    Are they the Polymath pull tabs? They're banging. The modification I want to do is workout a way to attach a sherpa blanket I got in a Mountain Warehouse sale. It's cosy to lie in but it and the hammock act like a glide sheet lol. Nice modifications, though. I'm stealing the velcro tie idea.

      @Storb Unlimited Bushcraft What I did is sew tabs out of webbing onto the blanket and the webbing on the hammock and got some biners. I'm still to test it. Sadly, the friend I would go out with passed away and haven't made it out.

    I bought some dutchware whoopies to do this exact thing and backed out because I thought the thin diameter might eventually rip the channel in the hammock

    I have a question, in the thumbnail i see that you use a tarp in a diagonal formation. I im looking to buy the frontline Xl, but i already own a dd tarp 3x3 m. If i use this tarp in diagonal formation, will i stay dry in bad wheater? Thank you for the video, greetings from the Netherlands

    • @storbunlimitedbushcraft6996
      @storbunlimitedbushcraft6996  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I have a 3x3 and use diagonal with my frontline XL it more than covers on diagonal and even covers in the usual rectangle to be fair. Thanks for watching and asking. Great hammock, great tarp! 👍🏽

    DD'S carabiners are DMM Spectre climbing biners, so i wouldn't consider swapping them with un branded and un tested ones from China an upgrade.

    • @storbunlimitedbushcraft6996
      @storbunlimitedbushcraft6996  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for that, But the DD ones are only rated to 10-24kn though, and the ones I replaced them with are rated to 25-27kn they aren't Chinese they are EN marked to European Standards (EN12275) I believe they are German if I remember rightly, long time ago now though.
      Anyway thanks for watching 👍🏼
      I mostly wanted to change them due to them having a swivel lock on the sleeve through rather than just an opener as with the DD ones.
      Happy Hammocking

    Use this one for years already...as I do long distance Walking projects months in a row.
    FB Kayak Cobber
    I don't use whoops as they always start to make problems after intense use....so I made dyneema lines with rope ladder knots, just see it as a daisy chain.
    If you don't use a tarp. the bungees from the bugnet I just tie to the end of the hammock and work good.
    The pockets inside you can make bigger if needed on the sides you don't touch with head and feet.
    On the tarp I made some loops about 15 cm. So I can tie my bungees at it and they are covered under the tarp instead on a ridge line above it. And also can use this when I use my Aframe mesh tent.
    Anyway we all do it different that makes us all the same......

      @@storbunlimitedbushcraft6996 and I have a Goalzero micro lighthouse light. This can shine up as well as sideways. Special handy in the hammock as it will not shine in your eyes.
      The dyneema line you have to use together with treestraps. Enjoy!!!!
