Blacksmithing, how to make blacksmith rivets 001

- i get a few ppl asking about rivets, and there are a few ways to make them by hand. this is the first step in this method, with this type of tool, which clamps the material to allow upsetting the rod to create the bulk for the head of the rivet. from here it goes to the header plate and a heading (shaper tool) tool shapes the rivet head. (other video for part 2, the head)
(the three ways are,(1) upset, make larger, the material to form a head, from the shaft size material. (2) reduce from larger stock to form the shaft, leaving the bulk for the head. (3) buy them !........lol ..or..you can forge weld a collar, as for making a bolt/rivet, adding bulk for the head, using heat, hammer and anvil. - Навчання та стиль
The two pieces are tacked together with a thin piece of card between them, drilled, then the card removed, then when used as a clamp, the two pieces don't get to join, but bite on the shaft of the right size material.
Good, simple, functional... THANKS!!!
Excellent. I hadn't considered using a vise like that to rivet. Makes extraction a bit more dependable.
succinct, thanks!
Absolutely riveting.
very good and straight forward,thanks
Nice job
thanks a lot by the way this is a very nice jig,
cool thanks easier then i thought
Gawd damn! So fucking simply. Brilliant video
good video
can you explain again how to make this jig. i cant don't seem to get it from the description below. first you get the two thick ones 1" and in the middle of them a thinner one like 2-3mm of the same size as the ones shown here, but what is the use of the thin one? why not drill straight through the two thick ones? and then by spring you mean the one on the sides seen here welded on both the thick ones to fit on the vise or is this another weld needed? which is not seen here?
Well That Was Quick And Painless.
nice very nice
I know that its just a rivet, but it was beautiful...8D
Ah a.... 'Hurler on the Ditch' .....he's on the money... keep it simple and 'old school' is always best that's what blacksmithing is about...Hand tools forges, punches chisels.....heat and drawing metal into beautiful shapes and beating same with hammers....
he was showing how to make it by hand
I've found great handbook on woodprix website. Good solutions for everyone I think
