iPhone 14 literally came out like 9 hours ago and Arun with his team already managed to create such a well made video in such a short time. Or there might also be a possibility that he got an early access to the iPhone 14 a while before the event. Because he is a big tech channel. But still very Impressive.
i mean, he probably already have iphone 14 for review purpose since a week ago. it's not that uncommon for brands to lend devices to reviewers a week before launch.
The biggest downside of the new iPhones is the pricing in Europe. I mean the normal 14/plus cost 999€/1149€ and the Pro/Max cost 1299/1449€ which is about a 200€ bump from last year across the whole lineup. Thats gonna make the iPhones sell even less in Europe as we already have significant price bumps in every day life such as electricity, gas and so on. Im really mad at Apple that they didn't say that in the event, because i was so glad that the price stayed at 999/1099$ but seems it didn't account for Europe.
I just don‘t get how they actually demand 1300€ for the base model pro phone. Even considering inflation, a 200€ bump to last year is just ridiculous. Ignoring that you still don‘t get a charger with that price tag. That‘s gonna be a hard sell in europe…
Most people don't buy phones outright there tied into contracts for the next 2-3 years. They won't see that additional price. Plus consider the launch prices of the note and ultra line up supersede the pro max by another 200
I love how this guy explains things with complete rationality and objectivity. This gives reliable insights to consumers without much knowledge with technicalities of such stuff and everything he says makes a total sense. Keep it up!
@@victor5.- if he likes iphones a lil bit more, what does that say though? since it’s someone who’s tried and tested so many phones for years? this year i got myself my first iphone, iphone13 and holy fuck is it smooth and efficient, all the androids don’t even compare. and don’t even get me started on samsung, my phone of 5 yrs is so slow and laggy for literally no reason. it never broke and it was always treated nice. i’ve had a macbook for 5 years now and it works super smooth and well. reason why i decided to try an iphone too. the feel and quality of it is just BETTER what can i say. the only issue i have is the too closed eco system, but as a physical device it’s the goddamn best.
I love how Arun is brutally honest with everything he says. If companies try to hide something that us viewers tend to not spot out, the boss will know what's going on. This is why I am subscribed to you Arun. You're just amazing with everything you do and speak. Your content is on another level 🚀!!! 1hr 30min livestream condensed to a 12 mins video is just bonkers! I do appreciate how Arun and his team try to elevate every video. I remember the simplicity of editing they are doing before he reached 1M and looking how dynamic these new videos he produce. Congrats man.
Disagree, all the editing is actually overused. Less is more, good lighting and framing goes a much longer way. All of the pop up graphics are very annoying
@@tears2040 TBH, I love them (as a editor for 10 years, if that helps lol). Ofc you're entitled to your own opinion, but they're certainly not objectively overused. I can definitely understand feeling that way tho-- it's definitely a fine line but I personally like them.
It still comes down to your own preference and taste. Some might not like it but there are also subscribers that do love the new editing and knowing how hard every single video to edit and produce in a specific time frame is very time consuming. I salute them for the effort they put into
Well it is cheaper though but more importantly hand campatibility. My woman friend is very very satified with her iphone 12 mini. She is a petite person so physically mini is very compatible with her hand
Always did, but there's zombie people that changed phones every year, but in this opportunity the price is so high, that all of the sudden realize the obvious.
2-3 years? I've had my iPhone X since it came out 5 years ago and have no issues with it. You don't need to upgrade your iPhone until the performance has notably decreased and replacing the battery is not worth it.
@@carpediemearth same here, still got iPhone X and very satisfied. I told myself two years ago that I won’t upgrade unless new model will blow my mind. Well, performance is still amazing, prob will carry it out until the end of the phone days :))
I agree whole heartedly with “The Ugly” I told my brother to wait on getting us 13 pro max two months ago because the 14 was gonna come out. And that even if he didn’t want the 14, the 13 would be $100 less for basically the same thing (or similar enough things that he wouldn’t the upgrade for the extra price)
@@etothej On their website? Apple takes off the Pro/Pro Max models so they can get people to buy the newest P/PM models. If you want the 13 pro or pro max you'd have to get it second hand.. or from a reseller like BestBuy.
I have a feeling that many people will not use the always on display, due to it giving the impression that the display is not off, and as such, they might feel that their phone is always running even when they hit the power button. With other phones, the screen goes black, showing that the phone has turned off, and THEN a small image appears on screen, leaving the rest black. It is the same thing with e-ink displays, people feel much more comfortable when their screen displays all white ("off") instead of just whatever they last had on the screen, or something like a picture.
This isn't really an accurate comparison, because an E-ink displays are bi-stable, you could drive an image to an e-ink display, and then gut all the electronics out of the system, and the picture would remain. It's consuming no power and doing no processing. When you have an "always on display" on a phone like this it *is* "turned on", the processors are running, checking for inputs, checking the sensors for if it's put in your pocket etc. The display *is* still running, it's putting power to the backplane and emitting photons.
@@SocksAndPuppets Do you know how much more battery is consumed? Without this data, how can one provide a valid, objective analysis? (The processor is always running, whether the screen is on or off.)
I really like your take on what apple is doing. Basically, mom is frustrated with her phone all the time because she doesn't understand that she actually did need the super pro version to make it worth while. This makes her quit trying to be tech savvy and that leads to her being not tech savvy and that leads her to not understanding that she is getting ripped off by spending 800 instead of 1200 for what should be the same phone just a little smaller that fits her hand and pocket better.
Not an iPhone user but you still make among the best content out there that covers all the bases! Good to know just how large (or incremental) the changes are, as well as that Pro vs regular option change. Obviously only so much you can improve on phones now and it's showing a bit. But still, definitely some nice things shown here as well as some quirks.
It’s amazing how they can make things look like they’re leaps and bounds better when they’re not. I’m quite happy with my 13 pro max. The saving grace for iPhones was a 120hz display. That’s it, that’s all the iPhone needed to feel amazing. Going to android then coming back to my iPhone always felt shitty because my iPhone at the time had a 60hz display and I was adjusted to the 120hz of my S21 Ultra. Once the 13 pro released in green, I had to have it. This will be my phone for a good long time. I doubt it will get sluggish anytime soon
Exactly even i am happy with my 13 pro max. I mean they calling them huge leaps are like very small upgrades. Probably will upgrade my iphone when 17 or 18 pro comes out
you're totally right, and for a person that hasn't experienced more than 90hz screen display (like me), you can even go older, my xr works just fine, i have enough 128GB space it never fills, the camera is fair enough and it feels as fast as newest iphones, sure thing i'll miss stuff like pro motion since it would be my first ever time trying a high refresh rate screen (i know im a caveman but in less than a year i was rocking with my iphone 7 plus lmao), when i get the change i'll definitely get one of those 120hz iphones. i did tried 90HZ screen, it wasn't good enough bc apple has that thing of the screen shows 60hz but its definitely recognizing 90hz, no biggie and that phone had a worse chipset so the apps opened faster on my iphone and it definitely got obliterated in games, it was an oneplus, don't exactly know the model but it definitely wasn't one of the flagships like oneplus 7T or whatever it was a mid range phone.
Yep, I'm just going to hold onto my XS Max - still does everything I need! The iPhone events were once so exciting but we've hit a point where cool tech upgrades/ new designs can't be year after year. Should Apple release next gen iPhones 2 yearly instead? I think yes :)
They never will because a huge majority of people buy the new one every single year. It's all about money and when you have a customer base that doesn't even think before spending over a thousand dollars why would you not drop a new one every year
I 100% agree. You don’t even have the time to enjoy your brand new iPhone 13 pro that the leaks for the next model come out the day after you bought it. It’s not even good for the environment. You may remove chargers from packagings, but launching useless phones every single year pollutes more imo
My 14pro max has been good to me so far. Switched from android and it’s been an interesting change… but happy so far. Mainly battery life and camera has been what I am liking the most.
As a cell phone salesman, 80% of the customers who come through my door come in because their iPhone 8-X has stopped working. They want the base model of the newest iPhone. Usually they ask "what iPhone are we on now?" They usually don't even bother asking about the price. To a very large majority of the US market, the iPhone is the only smartphone available, and there is only one of them every year.
@Cuffs imo the os is just untouchable in reliability for everyday use for me, android just doesnt have that nice optimization for example the, battery.
Upgrading from the XR to the 14 Pro Max which for me is a huge upgrade and the dynamic island reminds me of the MacBook pro touch bar which is hopefully a sign that apple is still trying to keep features like this alive.
What you mentioned as "The Ugly" is precisely what will stop me from buying the iPhone 14. I was expecting a notch design change and we got it! But only for the pro versions, which is a major disappointment from my point of view. I'd already decided to buy the 14 as my 1st iPhone ever, but I just dropped that decision and am staying in Android world. I mean: I can buy an used 13 pro max (with new battery) for less than 1200€, so what's the point in buying a new 14 base model for 1040€? To have the same design, same chipset, but possibly worse camera set? Bad, bad move, Apple. Android it (still) is.
u can buy the 13 base model if u really want to get into the ecosystem. 599 is not a bad offer if you want (last year's) flagship phone with good camera that can compete even with the current android flagship. it's a better deal than the s21 FE. id always have an android phone with 1-2 year old flagship chip as my big gaming phone and an iphone with 1-2 year tech as my phone for e-bankings and emails.
Well, the iPhone 14 is better than the older phones... of course. But I would rather buy an iPhone 13, cause it's cheaper, and it's not much of a difference compared to the normal iPhone 14.
Unless you're going for the Pro lineup, there's very little incentive to get the iPhone 14. It makes more sense, especially financially, to get a second hand iPhone 13 Pro/Max. Myself, I'm switching back to Apple, and I waited for last night's keynote, but it only reinforced that I won't be going for the 14 model. Not to mention, that where I live, Sweden, new iPhones are around 40% more expensive than launch US prices.
In the US for now atleast they lowered the prices of all the phones expect rhe 13 pro and 13 pro max. The 13 is lowered . The 13 pro and 13 pro max is the same price as the 14 pro and 14 pro max 😤 but that’s if you buy it from official places.
Yeah, I definitely have a couple problems with this year‘s phones. But my biggest being them getting rid of the Sim card and switching to eSIM. Really just not a good idea. Anyone agree?
that always-on display transition you talking in iphone, it stays in the lock screen which turns on screen brighter, pixel also has neat transition, when lock button is pressed the clock numbers get thicker and the lock screen comes and vice- versa there is no abrupt transition like you showed, its neat, and if you are locking/unlocking directly, they have changed it from last year to transit the way which the phone is locked/unlocked(fingerprint transition, lock button transition etc.)
3:40: absolutely, i’m on an iphone 13 pro and the battery headroom is excellent. i can very easily keep it between 30 and 80% with only charging it for about an hour each day, and if i need more i can simply fully charge it and it shouldn’t get below 20% before i get home, even with full brightness and light mode most of the time
I have an iPhone 13 Pro, so using GPS as a driver ,making some phone calls, listening to music connected to the car battery will last for around 6 hours, even less and that's with battery saver mode on, without will last around 4 hours.
@@rayquazahere8529 iphone 12 pro also has the dimming issues, I'm convinced that almost all iphones after the Xs will be having this problem. And, for the 12 pro it would heat up fairly fast when browsing/downloading on data or just shooting long videos.
Incredible how small Samsung cutouts are vertically compared to apple, I know we have Face ID but The screen is miles away from the camera and sensors, and because of that even more usable screen area is lost, I am already missing the notch, if the regular 14 had promotion would be a easy buy for me.
Even though I'm not an apple fan (don't own a single apple product) I still find these videos interesting - but it's made me realise how much of a muchness phones are these days, it just comes down to what ecosystem you prefer ultimately.
The fact that they look the same from the back is just bad because 10/9 people I know brag about their new phones and spending 2k€ on a phone that none will notice is a drag 😑

This is exactly what Jerry rig said about the Samsung z fold 4 while roasting apple at the same time. He expressed his concern at how These two companies are now just repackaging materials, bumping them up a percentage or two in "efficiency" then selling them at full price. Then comes the "new features" which in truth, the previous phones could also get via software updates but they either don't release that update to earlier phones or release it really late.
It's worth pointing out that Jerry also blamed apple for this. Apple allowed other manufacturers to relax with innovation, since people apparently don't care about it, they just care about the name of the product. As Jerry, I also have a Samsung Note 10+ and my only issue is the battery not lasting as it used to, for which I can compensate with the super fast charging
I just jumped from an IPhone XR to the iPhone 14 Pro Max in deep purple. I’m impressed how snappier it is, the quality feels more premium but honestly using it for what I do just feels the same.
Another issue that was glossed over is the fact that there is no physical sim tray. At least on the US models. So international travel now gets much more complicated. Many countries don't use esims and esim as a whole is no where near as quick and easy to set up as simply buying a disposable sim in the country that you're visiting and popping it in your phone. So now your options are buy an expensive international plan with your carrier or hope that the country you're visiting supports it.
Now everyone is hating Apple for not implementing an Sim Tray, 1-2 Years later Samsung and every other Smartphone manufacturer will follow them. Like the Headphonejack. eSim is just the future.
@@greemura_7056 the thing is, its useless if people cant use their phone to call, so they wont follow unless they earn the benefit which right now there are more problems than benefits

I always used to get mad at people saying apple is just re releasing the same phone but with a higher price, but now I have to agree with them. The thing I am most worried about is the non pros getting less updates though
@@JD-roxand the manufacturing price got slightly more expensive also, if they can keep the price the same it's cause the profits expected are more. they are probably expecting more since they are thinking a significantly more amount of people will fall in love with the notch and dry up the whole stock instantly.
Even worse than your last point: By removing the iPhone mini, they took away another reason for some people to have an iPhone...those people who did not enjoy the large screens (like my sister, who is still using 1st--Gen iPhone SEs). There are those who don't need a big screen for their usecases.
Mini was just an enticement for android users to try ios. And now they're trying to rank up those pitched users. And yes, they don't really care about their users. If it's not profitable, scrap them.
Exactly. Also in my opinion the 5.4" iPhone 12/13 mini could have simply been marketed as a standard iPhone (not mini), with the 6.1" iPhone as Plus, and of course keeping the 6.7" iPhone as Max.

No One, but no one will ever generate the excitement to near fever pitch, like Steve Jobs did. Apple has changed a lot, and not for the better in many ways.
Apple have been doing the “features limiting” trick since Apple II computer. Just ask Woz, he had disagreements over that with Jobs almost from day one. Woz wanted to include every option possible and than some in Apple’s computers and Jobs wanted to include only what was necessary and than charge extra for the extra features. Tim Cook as Jobs’s disciple continues with this strategy even more. Also worth noting he is not an Apple’s visionary like Jobs was, but comes from supply chain management… so there’s that too (profit over form)

Features Android has had for years, but when Apple does it, it's somehow "revolutionary". I've never seen a company manipulate their users as much as Apple does. If iPhone users spent five mins looking at Samsung phones they'd realize how bad they're being hoodwinked. I had always on display on my Lumia in 2015. Almost a full decade later Apple finally gets around to adding it to their iPhones and people think they're geniuses? SMH unreal.

Excellent video as always. Thank you! I’m a bit disappointed by the small step ahead on the 14 pros specially in the processor front because I am due to an upgrade this year and was hoping they were going to take it out of the park. I have the feeling that Apple is holding on the really good stuff for the iPhone 15, but I can’t wait one year more before upgrading
@@francoismurrell4604 true, I have an iPhone 7 rn and it’s being held together by prayer and bandaids so I have to buy the iPhone pro 14 but i don’t care about iPhone 15 rumors bc either way in another 4 years when I upgrade, that iPhone coming out that year will be better than the 15
Such a strange comment… you could say exactly the same for every iPhone Apple have ever released, as each one is slightly better than the last. Makes no sense at all.
The chip situation is actually more complicated than explained here. What they said about the competition still not having caught up with the A13 is not true in any way, literally Mediatek has made one that can compete (but admittedly probably not beat) the A15 from last year, let alone the A13. The A15 for the 14s also wasn't the same chip from last year; they took the one from last year's pros (which as the video says was better) and bumped them up a bit for the non-pros, and the A15 from last year was already way more than necessary for most people
yes and no. mediatek and qualcomm CPUs do not beat apple's. mediatek (arm mali) and qualcomm GPUs do beat apple's. nowadays, GPU-accelerated processing is becoming the new norm, and that is why qualcomm and mediatek are focusing on these alot more, and its why there isnt a real performance difference between the two in general usage. also, qualcomm may get into the business of custom CPU design, to increase power efficiency. sidenote: apple isnt honest with their marketing at all, so i dont know why you expect this to be any different. (think Privacy. That's iPhone.)
Yeah but credit where its due , if apple had not pulled of those moves i don’t think they could keep the same prices , bloody inflation is so bad everywhere ... everyday life like fuel coffee gym memberships .... even star bucks increased the price , and doritos or chips or cornflakes we buy even tho they are same prices the size is reduced sort of deceiving... I am personally happy the prices are the same. then again I don’t even upgrade every year .
“Wait until their current phone stops working, and then upgrade to whatever happens to be the base model of the latest models of the time.” God, that is so true. Literally hit the nail with a hammer. Hell, this is what I did 5 months back. My iPhone 6s, as great as it was, finally started getting worn down after years, so I finally upgraded to the iPhone 13 base (well Mini actually cuz I like compact phones).
honestly i feel like thats what most people do. Unless youre fairly well off, really big on tech, or making very poor financial decisions i think thats kind of the default. I love apple and their products but it does kind of suck that theyre trying to exploit the average person by sucking as much money from them as they possibly can.
I am not well off. but I actually upgrade my phone once or twice a year. I'm just never satisfied, especially when it comes to Android phones. I love Android, but there is always a couple things with every single Android phone that annoys the living shit out of me. With iphone? No...I honestly can't say that there is anything that annoys me.
Apple don't "wait until they can do something really well". You really think they couldn't have implemented this exact always on display years ago? They hold features back as long as possible so they can maximise their earning potential. This comes from lack of competition in that a lot of people will only ever buy an iPhone, so it doesn't need feature parity to Android phones. It's the same as with USB-C...if you're going to buy an iPhone regardless, then why should they change it?
Sure, but if people stopped buying iPhones because it doesn't have USB-C then They would sure as hell change it. Besides, I'm not entirely sure that MFI wouldn't still be a thing and make them even more money with USB-C, since users would have to upgrade their old peripherals...and it would allow for higher power transfer and data speeds so you could have a much wider range of add-on devices. The thing is, phone just aren't getting much better year on year these days, so anything Apple can hold on to and release further down the line the better for them. It's incredibly anti-consumer, and yet people still buy iPhones.
Yes except in 2018 when most phones started having aod they drained battery And apple waited until they were able to change the refresh rate to 1hz so it wouldnt drain ur battery almost at all
The removal of the sim card tray is like the removal of the headphone Jack from the iPhone 7. I know that Carriers probably pressured apple to drop the sim card tray because it hurts their bottom line for upgrades. I upgraded from a 6s to a 13 pro and I feel justified in my purchase since the 14 and 14 pro are like the 13 and 13 pro with barely enough to justify upgrades. Just buy a 13 pro and save some money from a 14 pro. It will get the same year of support as the base model 14
I work in wireless sales and SIM cards are hard to track and it’s a loss in money for them mainly than anything else it was an easy cost they could cut out while also pressuring consumers to buy multiple phones rather than swap a sim out.
Only the US is getting shaft*d like this with 0 sims, and here I thought a single sim was already hard to accept. For those not familiar, regulations in some countries require dual sim capability and for this reason, iPhones manufactured in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau have dual nano-sims. Voluntarily, in order to stay competitive, a lot of OEMs market dual-sim capable phones in Asia. More consumer protections are needed in the USA, but I'm not holding my breath. With Apple owning over 50% of the US mobile market share all to themselves, they have 0% incentive to be competitive since it seems like being more restrictive under the guise of 'convenience and security', instead of providing flexibility, is actually working in their favor.
That’s AMAZING how bright the screen gets, especially outside. So your phone will thermal throttle 3x faster and your display will be unusable that much faster. And you guessed it apple blocks you from turning it off. My note 9 gets much brighter than my current 13 pro max will ever get outside of quickly checking the time.
Thanks for pointing out that many features of iPhones are “perfected”(outdated) and Apple doesn’t add them until they feel they have to, or else they won’t if they don’t think the majority of their users will notice.
@Daniel Olortegui Its okay when the fans or users (of phones) do it, but its so annoying and infuriating when these youtube tech reviewers do it. ie Like Marques and Arun acting as if that pill thing is the greatest thing ever when its so clearly a gimmic. Oh you get notification (of last closed app) and can access the last closed or currently in use in bg app in it, how great! I have never heard of a notification panel before in my life btw, just fyi! @@pgc6290 iphone users are so desperate for multitasking that they were excited for this while some galaxy note models from 2013 could do full multitasking. (my galaxy s5 from 2014 can multitask too)
@Daniel Olortegui while it’s true that apple buys a lot of parts from samsung. It’s disingenuous to say they are samsung parts. The parts are made to apples specification (designed by apple) and they have utility patents so they’re unique to apple. Samsung is just a supplier
Arun is one step ahead in Apple's marketing scheme, easily identifying their psychology and business strategies and sharing that knowledge with us. Lucky for me I'm still sticking with Android, but not so lucky for someone else who will be getting the I Phone 14 Pro thinking its fairly similar to the I Phone 14 Pro MAX thanks to the difference in SOC/Processor.
A bit surprised to not see any mention of the SIM card tray removal in the US version. Hoping it doesn’t cause an issue with international travel, and it makes swapping sims between android and iPhone a pain, even when they both have eSIM support.
@@rodrigojds yeah, looks like the same situation with Southeast Asia, where I travel about once a year. Potential annoyance right now for me, I’m planning on getting one of these and test driving it against a new android phone. Excellent video as always! I have been researching a lot in the past few weeks as I want to buy my first iPhone after having used Android all my life, and I'm so indecisive about literally everything. I was thinking about getting the 14 because it still has a reasonable price, but this is making me consider whether it would be better to spend the extra £250 and get the 14Pro instead... I've never used iOS and I'm terrified I won't like it!
I would buy an iPhone, just for the experience, how much different is from android (not a question btw, a statement).Either rent it or buy it, mostly for experience, but also for the performance status and to a lesser extent, looks

I love that they took what was basically a wart on the front of every phone, and turned it into a functional design element. - I HATE, how excited I got while watching it in action…. Lol
Well, if your design is so bad that everyone makes fun of it, might as well embrace the bad design and turn it into something usable ;) The competition doesn't have that issue to start with though. Just an Apple-issue.

Great take on the new iPhone 14. I was surprised Apple is removing the Sim tray from the 14. Seems like that might be ugly for those of us who travel internationally and pick up a SIM card for coverage.
yeah, i feel like this is a major flaw. i feel like apple shouldve waited for physical sims to get obsolete before making this change, however they're apple, and now every company is going to copy this change and is going to remove the sim tray... i think in the next few years, majority of newer phones aren't going to have sim trays simply because apple removed it - and this is going to force telcos to provide esims as well a regular sim option (probably at an extra cost) for those with an older phone
Honestly the iPhone 14 is just an iPhone 13S I said the same thing in 2020, the 12 was really just an 11S with flat sides. Apple stopped the whole " 'S' year schedule", but really just changed their naming and hoped no one would notice
The integrations in the UI for the camera punch out do look pretty nice. Take a physical design constraint and integrate it into the software design so it feels more like a feature.
Never liked the way Apple do stuff, but I have to admit that they're the greatest genius of all time: they can present the same things every year and everyone's still going to buying them. I think that now the only really cool smartphone are the foldable, otherwise they're all quite similar...
folable is decades ago how is it cool now? Apple making the prices high for phones that arent pro and have less feats is funny cuz people are stupid anyways, but the pro phones are trash like their colors
The best part of the iphone 14’s is that my iphone 13 pro just became that much better of a choice! The only feature I like is the satelite connection.
@@VesaJay ..and because huawei is sketchy as hell. while i hate apple with all my gut, i hate huawei too. their hardware's absolutely great, but they lock down their bootloaders, presumably to stop you from installing open source software over their *ABSOLUTELY PROPRIETARY* software. thank god some huawei phones can be unlocked (including the modern ones im pretty sure), but that still doesnt bode well with me and makes me trust them alot less. ..not like apple does anything better, in fact, ios is practically backdoor central (think icloud backups, signature revokes etc..), and while all of these arent super serious backdoors, the other issue is that apple's ios is absolutely proprietary and theres practically no way of replacing it (other than somehow hacking apple's soc from as soon as it boots to load custom software while its booting before it can verify ios, like what project sandcastle did for linux/android on the iphone 7).
@@ariali2378 not really. i would say its because huawei has a sketchy history, but so does apple. in reality, its just because USA, and a certain strangely coloured man, had some problems with china, so they decided to cut ties with chinese phone makers so china's economy would suffer more (this was only one of a dozen things usa did against chinese companies).
it’s cool (and ofc pretty annoying) that apple is finally adding these features and also improving on them but it’s really nasty that they’re destroying base phones with old features, also kind of dumb to have a “plus” version that basically is the exact same as the base model edit: ah, I guess I see how the plus is really supposed to work
Agreed! I can afford the pro models , but I don't want a pro model with extra cameras . I'd expect the other main features to be in the standard 14 model IE same internals, same screen quality, same main Camera
I don’t know if it’s dumb since it’s just going back to what they used to do after the 6 plus. Mini didn’t work out so they’re bringing back something that did work and that they already know people will pay more for
Aod doesnt look that good tbh i orefer how android os does it and it feels that the battery drains slower on the aod version of android because it closes like 75% of the pixels and opens the other pixels iphone just makes the color a bit darker nothing else
That’s why I’m thankful I still don’t(and can’t) have these newer iPhones. Because I have more time to choose what’s the best model I will choose in the future. Still sticking with 7 now, I still have 92% BH(original battery).
After a long long wait apple has now upgraded their 12 megapixel back camera to a staggering 48 megapixel and they also increased the screen resolution and brightness. I really waited this to happen for a long time.
The 48 megapixels are quad-pixels meaning that 4 adjacent pixels will be the same colour. 4 pixels are essentially doing the same thing as one pixel in a 12 megapixel camera. In other words, don't expect an immense quality upgrade in your photos.
I don’t know why this needs to be said again, but here goes. Apple don’t do anything just because someone else has done it. Apple do things when they can do them well, does it mean they’re late to the party a lot of the time, sure, but the features they bring are normally fairly mature and well thought out by time they do release them. I say all of this as a pixel owner, but I recognise apples strategy of “do it right, not twice”
@@TheTactialLlama You are completely wrong. There is nothing like doing perfectly once. Then why u call the Iphone 14 an upgrade to iphone 13 and again upgrade to 12, doesnt mean doing more than twice, as apple always says the latest model is better than previous model

The notch always gets me. They definitely took a new approach with it but the fact that it's only available for the Iphone 14 is a fr deal breaker. They could have changed something for the older models and at least kept the same price instead of increasing the price to 200$. but I don't expect much for apple.

Arun, I really appreciate your honesty for the last point. I would add to this, that companies behaving like Apple (since they are not the only ones), shall be fined because this is a push towards more waste, not environmental friendly as they pretend to be. If you want new features, you must own the last bloody model, even the pro phone from last year will not support all the features, despite having almost the same hardware. This happens so many times on the electronic market, we are going nowhere with these practices.
I just want to thank apple again for being the first to take away all of the things I loved in phones (SD card, 3.5mm headphone jack, removable battery) but also still being about five generations behind nearly any other company at introducing basic technology (action video modes, 4k video, always-on). That's what makes a true winner, tricking people into being willing to pay more money for less product.

@@digzo77 wow you're trolling hard for a company that is firmly settled in your behind. thanks for the fake news, but 4k was from Sony, with Apple only introducing it years behind all their competitors. Im really mad at Apple that they didn't say that in the event, because i was so glad that the price stayed at 999/1099$ but seems it didn't account for Europe.
same for UK £100 more across the line , they really should’ve mention that somehow ! i had high hopes with that ” $1099 “
I just don‘t get how they actually demand 1300€ for the base model pro phone.

Exactly. Even then, why'd you need an always on display?
Efficient or not, it will eat battery no matter what.
Perfect. I was thinking exactly this. Also who needs something always on display? You're not gonna be looking at your locked screen all the time
This isn't really an accurate comparison, because an E-ink displays are bi-stable, you could drive an image to an e-ink display, and then gut all the electronics out of the system, and the picture would remain. It's consuming no power and doing no processing.
When you have an "always on display" on a phone like this it *is* "turned on", the processors are running, checking for inputs, checking the sensors for if it's put in your pocket etc. The display *is* still running, it's putting power to the backplane and emitting photons.
I think a completely black wallpaper will make it fully black by turning off the pixels.
@@SocksAndPuppets Do you know how much more battery is consumed? Without this data, how can one provide a valid, objective analysis? (The processor is always running, whether the screen is on or off.)

Yeah, I definitely have a couple problems with this year‘s phones. But my biggest being them getting rid of the Sim card and switching to eSIM. Really just not a good idea. Anyone agree?
Naa depends on your lifestyle
Yes I agree. I could not use this phone conveniently when I travel.
It's Apple's obsession with having few or no ports on their phones as much as possible.
I’ve actually been using esim for over a year now so not really. My carrier adopted it early
that always-on display transition you talking in iphone, it stays in the lock screen which turns on screen brighter, pixel also has neat transition, when lock button is pressed the clock numbers get thicker and the lock screen comes and vice- versa there is no abrupt transition like you showed, its neat, and if you are locking/unlocking directly, they have changed it from last year to transit the way which the phone is locked/unlocked(fingerprint transition, lock button transition etc.)

3:40: absolutely, i’m on an iphone 13 pro and the battery headroom is excellent. i can very easily keep it between 30 and 80% with only charging it for about an hour each day, and if i need more i can simply fully charge it and it shouldn’t get below 20% before i get home, even with full brightness and light mode most of the time
Light mode doesn’t affect battery life btw. No difference between light and dark in that regard.
I have an iPhone 13 Pro, so using GPS as a driver ,making some phone calls, listening to music connected to the car battery will last for around 6 hours, even less and that's with battery saver mode on, without will last around 4 hours.
How much screen on time we looking here?, Is it worth getting 14pro vs 14pro max?

Incredible how small Samsung cutouts are vertically compared to apple, I know we have Face ID but The screen is miles away from the camera and sensors, and because of that even more usable screen area is lost, I am already missing the notch, if the regular 14 had promotion would be a easy buy for me.

Like he said, that's just few % of the users and probably not worth opening production lines and factories for that mere few % of people.

Wait a few years, it will be back as SE model.

The A15 for the 14s also wasn't the same chip from last year; they took the one from last year's pros (which as the video says was better) and bumped them up a bit for the non-pros, and the A15 from last year was already way more than necessary for most people

A smart take on the topic really.
apple keeps lightning because of MFI. they have usb c in all other devices. MFI makes them a lot of money.
Yes except in 2018 when most phones started having aod they drained battery

Thats only for the US
Only the US is getting shaft*d like this with 0 sims, and here I thought a single sim was already hard to accept.

3:35 remember when you could just swap batteries in and out on practically any phone and they weren't glued in with the back glued on top of the whole thing?
Yeah and u could replace it by urself
yeah and if you coughed too hard your phone would die of moisture
@@nehankaranch2149 Bit of an overstatement. You couldn't drop your phone in the toilet, but I know *checks notes* two people that ever happened to ever.
Remember when you could fix the stuff that you paid for? You could actually take care of _your_ stuff. Crazy
This is why i like to have blackberry phones. The batteries are really easy to swap out.
Great take on the new iPhone 14. I was surprised Apple is removing the Sim tray from the 14. Seems like that might be ugly for those of us who travel internationally and pick up a SIM card for coverage.
We need the SIM card seriously, without it I don’t have mobile data
yeah, i feel like this is a major flaw. i feel like apple shouldve waited for physical sims to get obsolete before making this change, however they're apple, and now every company is going to copy this change and is going to remove the sim tray... i think in the next few years, majority of newer phones aren't going to have sim trays simply because apple removed it - and this is going to force telcos to provide esims as well a regular sim option (probably at an extra cost) for those with an older phone
@@tfr e-sims, never heard of those, everyone I know uses a card
@@Hoaxe72 Apple does not care. Get used to it. You have now to adopt the new technology.
it's just in the US version which come without the sim . Glad we get it with the sim also .
Hi bro, Eagerly waiting for camera tests, because you are the only one i trust when it comes to camera test
Congratulations I have something for you 🎁!🎁
Honestly the iPhone 14 is just an iPhone 13S
I said the same thing in 2020, the 12 was really just an 11S with flat sides. Apple stopped the whole " 'S' year schedule", but really just changed their naming and hoped no one would notice
the fact that they do that is an inovation in it self
you're overthinking this
This is more than an S model would do.
@@coleisforrobot Really? the iPhone 6S compared to the 6 felt very significant.
@@minbcraft Yeah well the S was just a label that was complex, people didn't like the name of "s" so they removed it
The integrations in the UI for the camera punch out do look pretty nice.
Apple's products are good but they are bad due to Apple's decisions on the hardware(often software features too) and minimum upgrade.
Thats called a “ Brand” my friend….. a big % of people fall for the brand itself not the actual content they are paying for….
@@MuhammadTayyab-iv4rd Yeah...but maintaining such brand so well...
folable is decades ago how is it cool now? Apple making the prices high for phones that arent pro and have less feats is funny cuz people are stupid anyways, but the pro phones are trash like their colors
@@Austinfdp You mean flip phones??? I've never seen phones fold into tablets until now...
The best part of the iphone 14’s is that my iphone 13 pro just became that much better of a choice! The only feature I like is the satelite connection.
Just pointing out Huawei beats Apple to the satellite messaging feature by a day on the Mate 50
that's why US banned Huawei phones.
And for that reason is why they had to get rid of that company. 🤷 Because Huawei is the best phone by far out there.
@@ariali2378 not really. i would say its because huawei has a sketchy history, but so does apple.
in reality, its just because USA, and a certain strangely coloured man, had some problems with china, so they decided to cut ties with chinese phone makers so china's economy would suffer more (this was only one of a dozen things usa did against chinese companies).
it’s cool (and ofc pretty annoying) that apple is finally adding these features and also improving on them
but it’s really nasty that they’re destroying base phones with old features, also kind of dumb to have a “plus” version that basically is the exact same as the base model
edit: ah, I guess I see how the plus is really supposed to work
Agreed! I can afford the pro models , but I don't want a pro model with extra cameras . I'd expect the other main features to be in the standard 14 model IE same internals, same screen quality, same main Camera
I don’t know if it’s dumb since it’s just going back to what they used to do after the 6 plus. Mini didn’t work out so they’re bringing back something that did work and that they already know people will pay more for
Actually, the plus has always been the same as the base.
It's the pro versions that brought seperation
The plus is there mainly for people with large hands or those that wants a larger screen since it would be more comfortable to read or watch videos
Aod doesnt look that good tbh
i orefer how android os does it
and it feels that the battery drains slower on the aod version of android because it closes like 75% of the pixels and opens the other pixels
iphone just makes the color a bit darker nothing else
That’s why I’m thankful I still don’t(and can’t) have these newer iPhones. Because I have more time to choose what’s the best model I will choose in the future.
Still sticking with 7 now, I still have 92% BH(original battery).
After a long long wait apple has now upgraded their 12 megapixel back camera to a staggering 48 megapixel and they also increased the screen resolution and brightness. I really waited this to happen for a long time.
Samsung has 108 megapixels for much longer, 48 megapixels suck.
@@WorstBelleUser yet it takes 12 MP photos? They only use it for their unnecessary 100x zoom, which pretty much is their only selling point…
lmao apple fanboys behind 5 years every iphone release.
@@whitegoodman7465 try using both phones features first then? Everything has a reason, just like why apple is worth more than a trillion 😂
The 48 megapixels are quad-pixels meaning that 4 adjacent pixels will be the same colour. 4 pixels are essentially doing the same thing as one pixel in a 12 megapixel camera. In other words, don't expect an immense quality upgrade in your photos.
Looks like Apple users finally get some of the freature I ALREADY have on my Samsung Galaxy s22 ultra. Great job Apple!
Which feature?
@@indmill2136 There's a distinct difference between doing something and doing something well. Apple choose the latter. Obviously tech moves on and things improve but Apple don't often implement things that are half baked. Do Apple always get it right. Nope. But they don't dilly dally from one concept to another.
“Some of the freature”
I really like how he deep dived into the bad parts as well which other reviewers tend to ignore or speak about less often.Great Vid Arun
The notch always gets me. They definitely took a new approach with it but the fact that it's only available for the Iphone 14 is a fr deal breaker. They could have changed something for the older models and at least kept the same price instead of increasing the price to 200$. but I don't expect much for apple.
Use floating window and push it to the side. Better than that shit apple made. You just haven't seen Android. Also you can push floating window to variable heights so that you can actually use them.
@@Variable_Degree_Series actually I'm an dedicated android user but there are a lot of Android who don't have a notch and an under display camera and you get more control over customization and safety when it comes to your data.

Arun brings a very high quality perspective to tech reviews...super content as always 👍🏻
I am genuinely impressed with the pro and would probably pick it up for my next phone if it didn't cost 1399 in Canada. So much money.
What was impressive about it? Other than the satellite sos and crash detection i dont see anything that hasnt been done before to feel impressed..
@@uabforfindingthisbutalr6464 True but those features are damn amazing
They’re only charging $90 more than the US ones
@@uabforfindingthisbutalr6464 The difference here being that Apple’s implementations of these “old” features won’t be half baked like they always are on Android.
@@uabforfindingthisbutalr6464 The reason why its because the iPhone takes all the features from android phones, perfects it and accumulates it into one phone
Since when that iPhones has SD card and removable battery ! And the first phone in the world who came with the 4K video future is 8+ you have a very bad knowledge bro
@@digzo77 wow you're trolling hard for a company that is firmly settled in your behind. thanks for the fake news, but 4k was from Sony, with Apple only introducing it years behind all their competitors. The point is that they are consistently the first to remove popular features, and the last to add them in, yet their prices are staggeringly high. OLED three years behind the competition and that giant hole for the selfie cameras are two more examples of how other than on chipsets, Apple is the China of the tech world, big on sales but always several generations behind.

The only question I care about that stops me from considering iOS is are they still using the lightning port? Until they switch to USB C I'm sticking with Android.
You have a point, but one of the main reasons they are sticking with the lighting port is because alot of people have them and they don't want it to get in peoples way.
iphones will be portless before they get usb c

@@griffinrulez2310 but literally everybody has usb c cables. Every tech product for the last 5 years has shipped with usb-c. So that’s not a great argument
