I mean the s22 ultra is 45w(og put 25w), not much difference tbh. Besides that the battery life will last you all day with some bit left at the end of the day
Fast charging heats up the phone way faster which degrades the battery faster. If phones were tablet sized and companies invested as much money into them, we'd have excellent cooling and fast charging above 50w would be the standard, but they're not Edit : I do not blame fast chargers alone fyi. If your phone doesn't heat up because of it, great. But not everyone lives in ideal conditions and here in South Asia, with warm weathers throughout the years, fast chargers often overheat phones. That HEAT degrades battery. Also, how are some of you people's comprehension so bad? The phone and tablet market are two very different things, why haven't we seen much tablets with high end specs? Cause the market's small and the risks are high. Because of that, tablets do not support as fast of a charger as some phones. Not because it's impossible, just because it isn't worth the trouble
I love how Marques makes a car analogy for us to understand phones better, only for me to understand cars better thanks to them being compared to phones
@Mardoxx7 I have a very strong feeling you don't actually do much to protect the environment and recycle, you're just virtue signaling, and no separating your trash from your recycle at your house (if you even do that) when in the vast majority of states and local principalities it all goes to the same landfill anyways (look it up) doesn't count. Upgrading at two years is very common and reasonable. If he traded in his phone its getting reused, if he kept it as a backup there's practical application there too, maybe he gave it away to a family member or friend. There is no reason to assume wastefulness here, in conclusion fuck off with your BS, you have no idea what you're talking about.
I’m contemplating doing the same and I’m glad to hear that you’re seeing some benefits. I’m a relatively heavy user so battery life is critical for me.
One of the primary issues with today's marketing is the the lack of ingenuity in order to promote cash grabs. Nowadays it's more about the amount of sales instead of the amount of real satisfaction. Thanks for touching on this, it says a lot. Edit: I am NOT saying all products are designed to swindle nor do I mean sales were never the point from day one. Yet in some areas with certain circumstances it seems like less bang for your buck is a result of some corporations.
I think you should make a monthly series about random updates on things you previously reviewed. talking about battery life, software bugs, long term usage, because you learn many other things about tech after a longer period of time
U can see how he cleverly embedded the bug issue into a completely different video which is talking about benchmarks. I guess he doesn't wanna offend apple by making a separate video with its own headline and thumbnails about the bug as he had done with other brands in the past
I would rather that they wait 2 years before releasing new phones at all. Imagine the hype that would come from a new iPhone after that long. Phones have stagnated in general. I'm a Samsung guy and they do change the look of the phone most years, which is heavily appreciated, but it's still the same deal as the new iphones. Just small iterations. BORING.
These smaller incremental improvements have lead me to upgrade much less frequently. I had my 7 Plus until the 12 Pro Max came out, and I'm sticking with that for at least another generation at this point.
@@sdani. oh man you don’t understand how wrong you are, in my Uni I already saw a new iPhone 14 and I’m pretty sure there gonna start popping up more, and that’s just uni.
@@Anonym-dx2tp It's a lot more common than you think especially because of the trade in program many phone providers do. But yeah now that seems to be happening less nowadays with how little improvements phone have. Plus, most people are rarely pushing their phones to max performance everyday.
I’m happy he pointed out the special processors in SoCs. It’s a reason why increases in CPU and even GPU performance isn’t as important as it used to be before these processors took over much of their work. I’ve been trying to explain this to people for some time. Most benchmarks don’t take this into account.
add to that, companies like Samsung and apple were caught optimizing performance once they detect certain benchmarks software, and then degrade performance once you return to using your phone. which means higher specs on paper wont change a lot in real life
@@tonirvd3650 Apple never did that. They were never accused of doing it either. Huawei did it, Samsung and others did. The two companies that didn’t were Apple and Motorola.
@@melgross yes they did. they also downgrade the performance after the lunch, and after all youtubers test the benchmarks during the lunch season. in a day to day comparison, iphone been slower than many android phones, but big tech youtubers don't do that kind of comparison, because they might loose sponsorship, or not get the iphone sent to them before anyone else
@@tonirvd3650 no, they didn’t . Show one instance where they did that. Find a single article that said that Apple worked around testing software. Just one. Android phones are definitely slower than iPhones in everyday use. You’re just making things up now.
Also, I must agree about the battery drain. It's VERY weird. My personal iPhone 11 will drain worse and It'll be hot to the touch at times when charging but I'm not surprised since it's older and my battery is drained. But my work phone is a Brand new 12, and it's battery has been taking a hit since I updated. Which is surprising since I average less than 10m screen time per day on it
Oh my god finally someone said it!!! The draining after the update is crazy!!! I thought my phone was going bad or something! Draining my battery like crazy!!!
What the hell are you doing to get that battery life My 14 pro max don’t get that Tho ig Genshin is probably the most battery draining game I could be playing 😶🌫️
@@CallMeVidd never take this anecdotal stuff at face value. i remember people were saying this about the iphone 12 and all i got was shit battery life on it lol
I’m kinda over the big phone thing; I am happy with the standard size iPhone, or maybe even the discontinued Mini size. The Plus sizes just feel too big in my pocket.
Yea ios 16 is total dumpster fire for me. Never I’ve had my phone actually crash and boot up on me. After iOS 16, it did that twice. So many UI bugs and glitches and Music with AirPods Pro also sometimes suffers from skipping.
I absolutely adore this phone! Ive had the 12 mini for a little over a year and a half and the battery health was at 81%. My phone wouldnt even last me a school day which is 8:35-3:35. It was laggy, the battery sucked, and the screen was too small imo. Im a girl and i have bigger hands so i love bigger screens. That being said, i wanted one of the 14 series and i was stuck between the 14 pro max, 13 pro max, and 14 plus. In the end, i chose the 14 plus. I didnt care for all the extra pro features and gimmicks. My 14 plus has everything i want and need in a phone: bigger screen for cheaper price, BEST battery life (used my phone from 6:30 am all the way to 9pm and my phone wasnt even below 20%. Havent had to charge it once. My 12 mini could never!!) and a great camera! The 14 plus is a great phone with great features AND colors (i got purple and it’s beautiful) and i think if you dont want/need all the extra weight (cuz this 14 plus is SUPER LIGHT!!) and the extra features and gimmicks of the pro phones and you want a GREAT FREAKING BATTERY, get the 14 plus!!!!! 10/10!!!!
Completely agree with the year-on-year updates becoming less relevant. I’ve had my XS Max for 4 years. Got a 13 Pro Max a couple weeks ago and I expect to use it for the next 4-6 years, unless something breaks.
That's literally what everyone does. Tech reviewers make it seem like people buy new phones every year. Sure Apple brings only a few small improvements each year, but people with iPhones upgrade usually after 4 or 5 years. Coming from an iPhone 8 to for example the 14 Plus is a pretty damn significant upgrade. And if those people were able to use the 8/8 Plus until now, they'll be able to use the 14 Plus for the next 5 years with no issues.
I think there’s a bug with the iOS weather widgets that causes high drain if you have them displayed on the always on display. I removed it from my Lock Screen and now I’m getting great battery life, even with always on display turned on.
it shouldn't as it's part of software & why remove it when it's Meant to be used, all blame to apple for this 😢 m super happy with my 14 pro getting great battery life it's just sometimes it heats up doing normal tasks 😂
@@hectorpapi7602 summary of it: ios 16 is not optimized well enough to have dynamic widgets on lock screen that wont affect the battery. My phone heats up when in charge , i always take the case off ..never happened with my iphone 7 lol
You know how apple achieves good battery life by hibernating other background apps but when they are actively running they are causing battery drainage at a faster rate like using live widgets on lockscreen/Aod
I am using just the small widget for temperature and I don’t seem to notice anything. Maybe be a bit more specific as it may be a particular weather item :)
So glad battery drain is the biggest topic here. I feel like iOS 16 is killing the batteries like crazy no matter what phone you have. Our phones are hot all the time and the battery is drained quicker than ever!! I’m dying for an update!
I must mention I have an iPhone X running iOS 16.0.2 at 79% battery life and on standby without using it last me about 7 days and then my iPhone 12 Pro Max iOS 15.0.1 at 87% battery life last me almost 5 days standby or not using it and my iPhone 13 Pro Max on iOS 15.0.1 last me about 3 days at 100% battery life I’m still waiting in my iPhone 14 Pro Max to be here so I can test that one but how crazy the iPhone X wins 🤔🤦🏻♂️
I have an Iphone XR with 80% battery life and the battery drains like crazy and it has also started lagging and crashing like it never did before, i can't even make a call now without my phone lagging. Even i am dying for an update
Been contemplating on upgrading from my current 12 mini to a 14 pro max for awhile. But in the end, I've decided to the 14 plus instead. Just as MKBHD mentioned, benchmarks are getting less significant for the average consumer like us, but rather, which specific features of the phone matters most to us. To me, battery life is the main issue I'm having with my current 12 mini, which is why 14 plus would make more sense as compared to the pro max. Thanks for this video, informative as always.
@@mishal5918 I would say the battery life holds up till now but from time to time it does overheat even though I’m not using any heavy-duty functions. But nonetheless, five months in, the battery health remains at 100%. I would suggest people to get 14 plus even though 15 is launching.
@@mishal5918 I have had my iPhone 14plus for more than 6 months now and I am very happy with it. I upgraded my iPhone 8plus with the 14plus and battery life is still amazing, most of the time I go around day and a half or two days without charging it (depends on how much I use it, but lasts at least 24 hours, that's what I would say). Haven't experienced any sort of glitching and heating, works smootly and fast. Camera is excellent, of course compared to the 8plus it's a big and satisfying upgrade, but I must say that the Pro series may be a better choice in terms of photo quality. However, I only wanted a phone with big screen, good battery life and a good camera and for that I would 100% recommend the iPhone 14plus.
Bro you make things easy to understand when it comes to the field of tech. Watching your videos is is like being in a lecture room. Always here to learn
Glad you mentioned the benchmarks and buying for use case.. I feel everything in life is now buying for your specific use case. It’s great we live in a time to be able to buy ultra specific cars, phones, CPU’s, GPU’s etc etc. But also tough when we do want to buy something to meet various needs. Look at all the new GPU’s coming out, you literally need to buy your GPU based on the specific game you play for optimal performance.
The battery drain has been very strange with IOS 16. I have the 11 Pro max with charge case, typically charge it at night and it lasts until late into the next night, never had an issue with battery. My charge case is basically now useless as the phone loses charge so fast now that its draining faster than the case can deliver. If I restart my phone however it returns to normal and they begin charging at similar rates, really annoying and I hope they fix, was hoping to upgrade to the 14 but will see my other options if this doesn't get fixed soon. I'd normally just put this down to battery wear and tear however this only started after updating to IOS 16 and once I restart it its normal again. Thank you for highlighting these issues
I had battery drain issues and iMessage bugs being not able to really text anyone, the battery massively improved when I jumped to iOS 16.1 beta 2 took beta 3 to fix my texting issue and now on beta 4 everything has been pretty much fixed so when you get iOS 16.1 a lot of people’s issues should be resolved. I am on an iPhone 13 Pro
I don’t see the lack of huge improvements year over year as a problem. It means that when you buy a device it will last longer offering most of the features included in the next generation models. This is great for my pocket, for the environment and for my time as I can focus more on getting proficient on using the software and the device features. So I am very happy with the current trend.
I upgraded from an iphone 12 to the 14 pro and I was little shocked at how fast the battery drains during the day. I'm going to try turning off the always on display, it's a nice feature but not necessary. Your analogy was perfect. Ultimately I care more about the video/camera capabilities of the 14 pro than the battery life. Interestingly, I did not experience any camera jitter even before the patch!
AOD causing battery drain is a non issue… like the screen is on of course it’s gonna drain faster. Now how fast, that’s another thing. But the battery definitely is not gonna be stand by time good
I’m surprised Apple didn’t make a dynamic always on display. As the phone tries to understand your daily schedule and also takes into account other factors like battery, time of day, devices being used, app activities, location, etc. It takes into account all of this and tried to understand when you’re more likely to “glance” at your For example, being at work and the always on display having the time and picture but then it changes into just the time once you head somewhere you’re less likely to use your phone.
You’re just describing focus modes. You can assign different Lock Screen based on the active focus mode, and of course you can use shortcuts etc. to dynamically select the right focus!
My iPhone 11 Pro is still pretty solid after 2 & 1/2 years in terms of battery life **knock on wood** and I get all the Beta Softwares of IOS 16 too. But I have had other friends with the 13/14 and 13/14 pro that have taken hits on battery so the points you make are def valid.
Rocking an 11 Pro for 3 years now. Works fine (knock on wood), though the battery health is down to 85%, so at some point sooner rather than later, it'll need to be replaced. Or, I might upgrade?
I'd be down for an X Months Later series where you do similar updates like this on current flagships. Android 12 and the Pixel 6 had a bit of a rough start for some but I similarly didn't experience any of what I saw others reporting and it has improved over time. I just noticed with either 13 or a monthly patch they changed the haptic feedback for the fingerprint sensor to a single click. It lends credence to my idea that part of what made people think it was unreliable/slow was the use of two haptic clicks instead of just one when recognized. A friend told me he was having issues with his because it kept telling him "not recognized" even though he felt the click. Once I explained there should be two and he started waiting for the second he said it worked perfectly fine for him. I guess the idea was to provide haptic feedback both for "finger detected" and "print recognized" since you can't feel where the sensor is for the former. I quite liked it but it seems that ended up confusing people used to only the latter and their "hold a little longer" message on the lock screen apparently wasn't sufficient. Noticed now that has been replaced with "press firmly on the sensor". I think such a series could be good at highlighting some of the little changes like these that can make a big difference to user experience as well as how long after launch issues persist.
I’m upgrading from the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. I’m so excited. It’s got a better screen, slightly longer battery life and fits a bit better in my pocket.
My 14 plus can last 2 days at best the battery is great the performance is second to none and the way the music is integrated is what drew me to it I was a android user for over 5 year and when the upgrade was due I decided on the 14 plus I’m glad I did having it on contract makes it even better
Most people wont admit it but battery life is much more important than a faster moving screen that doesn't even matter...ur eyes can only read or see videos and pics but so fast...120 refresh rate isnt as important as people r pretending it is.
You know the iPhone 14 Plus has nothing much to talk about when more than half of the video is about current state of smartphone benchmark and different companies' strategy 🤷🏽♂️
I personally have yet to encounter any bugs on my iPhone 14 pro and the battery life lasts me a day and half so I’m happy. Although I did turn off the always on display as I don’t like that feature in general.
I recently bought 14 plus and I am loving it. No complaints so far. A big screen and bigger battery is a big advantage. Better experience overall. Satisfied with the purchase ❤❤. Will recommend others too!!
@IamJay02 He likes his 14 plus. Why are you so upset 😭 There’s not much difference anyway between the plus & pro max. Who wants to carry around a phone as heavy as a brick anyway.
You know I think the primary issue is the chips. We’ve known for years now that rate at which we make these technological leaps are going to become less and less. We can only add so many transistors to a new chip before we’re going to have to find a new way of computation like Quantum Computing
Beyond that, the typical user rarely has chip speed as a bottleneck, so they gain little from CPU advancements. Even midrange phones have CPUs that are perfectly good for most consumers. To use MKCD's analogy, I don't care if my next car has a top speed than is greater than my current car. I've never hit that limit.
No the issue is that even though these chips are getting faster, iOS and iPad OS are so dumbed down and restrictive that there are hardly any apps that can take advantage of the hardware aside for the 1-2 video editing apps which most people will never see these performance improvements. At this point, the iPad is a glorified media consumption device for most people that are not artists. It’s a shame since M1 iPad has killer hardware. If only Apple allowed MacOS apps to run on it.
I’m feeling lucky rn. My battery life has been pretty much the same which I’m glad for since my 12 is still holding strong. I noticed that in ios16 the little notification that delays charging overnight based on your charging habits has changed to one that says charging will resume once the phone has returned to a cooler temperature though so I wonder if the climates people are in also significantly impacts their phone’s battery life.
My 14 Pro Max battery is incredible, lasts me 2 days! iOS 16 has been smooth for me too, bummer for people who have had issues…but it’ll be fixed in updates, as it always is every year.
Can definitely get behind the battery issue, though it may extend to battery health as well. Have had a 12 mini for only about a year now, but after updating, not only did the battery life get SIGNIFICANTLY worse (which is made more confusing by the fact that it was already pretty bad), but my battery health is already down to 89%. My previous iPhone only got down to that amount of battery health after almost two years, and I’m pretty sure the majority of the tank was shortly after I updated, considering just about a week ago it read as 91%.
The issue with the Lock Screen being stuck on one side is also happening on my normal iPhone 13. It’s a glitch with the IOS 16 I believe rather than with the phone
one think on battery life, I had that. I also read it takes up to 5 days for iPhones that you upgrade to a new OS to index everything and be up-and-running. In fact after a couple of days all the bugs were gone and the battery life was back to normal. Little tip here
The iPhone 13 Pro Max already proved that, I have it, and it has the tech you mentioned, and yes because it drops to 10 hertz when the screen is static it saves more battery than 60 hertz all the time. If you didn’t buy a 13 pro max like me I recommend you buy the iPhone 14 pro max because it has the same tech
Great way to go about the 12 Plus. Great video! Love this especially because I don't care for benchmarks but I love how dope these SoCs are getting. Like the neural engine and photo processing. Really great video man!
Any one else agrees that the effort marques puts into his videos is unmatched? Even that car reference I was not expecting that. keep up the good work💯💯🔥🔥👍🏽👍🏽
So, I've noticed an increase in connection problems with Wireless CarPlay as well. iPhone 13 Pro though so it's gotta be something in iOS 16. When it does connect it connects quickly...but sometimes the only way I can get it to connect is to toggle Airplane Mode on and off then try again.
Love the info! I knew where you were going with the Track analogy. Numbers on paper dont mean anything. I do have a 14 Pro Max and havnt had really any issues. I did turn off always on simply because I thought the implementation was terrible.
please if you can, send me your old iphone, i’m a young athlete here in africa and i’m really in need of a good smartphone to help me record my soccer training and match clips, i have a broken iphone 5s currently and even the camera doesn’t work. i don’t have any support over here it’ll mean the world to me and i can answer any questions of doubt you have or anything
@@sinz1516 much better. I would consider myself someone who uses the phone a good amount of the day and I noticed about a 12% increase in battery life on a day to day usage.
The bug happens to me too not as major as having to restart my phone but a lot of time when I hold it it makes my screen rotate and stay like that until I turn it off.
Yeah I agree. iOS 16 on my iPhone 13 Pro, it seems the battery life is much shorter compared from the previous iOS 15.6… Usually after a long day, I still have 35% left in the evening. But on iOS 16, it will be just around 20%.. Significant difference.
Mkbhd has become more of a poet than a reviewer, he delivers a message but it is hidden somewhere deep inside and what that message is , everyone has their own depiction, even though on the surface it is so organised and structured.
Awesome video! My 12 Pro Max to 14 Pro Max upgrade has been nothing but stellar. Every aspect of the device is upgraded! And the new screen is amazing… In regards to battery life, I’m seeing an actual increase of more than 50% depending on usage (with 5G disabled), running two eSims. I do notice a much more significant battery drain with 5G enabled, and the benefit of having it enabled is minuscule where I’m located. With 5G enabled for both sims, I am seeing about 40% increased battery life over my previous device. It also becomes much warmer with constant use having 5G enabled. Hopefully that is addressed in the 16 Pro series, which will be my next device. (1/2)
I bet future improvements will come from optimizing those neural chips. We're no where close to diminishing returns there and those gains will make serious quality differences in AI powered apps - things like AI image generation and AI voice assistance. From the machine learning side, that tech already exists - it's just too expensive compute wise for everyone's personal use.
The always on display looked kinda odd when they showed it off. For me an aod should be basically all black, with elements like clock, notifications, etc. Whereas on ios, it looks like a dimmed lock screen. I watched a video where they said apple was waiting for a 1hz screen to do an aod, for battery life and all the comments said it is concerning if you can't get good battery life without 1hz (video was before the announcement). But I get it now. It doesn't take advantage of the fact amoled screens can turn off black pixels, which is what enabled them to do aods in the first place, it just dimms the screen, so no wonder it soncumes so much battery compared to other phones who only need to power a few pixels.
yeah, apple wants to make everything unique and they copied and put in useless mind of their team. WTF, who wants AOD like that. Poor feeling in latest ios and as well as in iphone.
@@avinashprakash2309 I assume you mean by dimming the lock screen. As a response to that I would say that: 1. When aods were made they would have drawn a lot more power 2. You maintain similar functionally, or well basically a clock and notifications, maybe a picture 3. Having an aod be a dimmed lock screen doesn't make sense to me when you can just turn down your brightness on the lock screen. It is for at a glance things, like battery percentage, music playing, time, if you have notifications, etc. You don't need to have your entire lock screen there, so it seems unnecessary to me.
It’s really great hearing someone else verify what I have been feeling: the benchmarks are slowly becoming more meaningless because we understand what a smart phone needs to do well. Simply , if the benchmarks for general tasks aren’t great, but the device does what I needed to do exceptionally well, why does it matter?
My 12 pro got warm and had quick battery drain for a while after I updated to ios 16. I just assumed it was the phone going through my entire Photos backlog and applying the new AI magic to pull the subject out of the image and put the clock behind the subject for the new lock screens. It resolved itself after a couple weeks, and since then I've had no issues with warm phone or battery drain (actually my battery life seemed to improve over ios 15). I could totally see this same thing happening for people's new iPhone 14's...
Something is going on. My iPhone 12 Pro Max overheats (warning message and no charging allowed till cool) regularly with iOS 16. It happens all the time with Carplay (I have the cable required version in my vehicle), and I've had to prematurely kill several drone flights mid job due to the phone overheating. I never had to do that once before iOS 16. I had not seen the overheating message on any iPhone I've used, which goes all the way back to the OG, a single time prior to iOS 16. It's a regular issue now even after resets and going without a case to help cooing. That said, I do believe you. The issue seems partially related to home screen setups and various live updating widgets. It's not automatically an issue for every iPhone that runs the OS.
I’m not buying another iPhone until the mini comes back… I love my 12, and I was considering upgrading to the 14, but without that option, it feels like I’m just buying an iPad mini-mini
@Nikolai even with regular sized hands, an regular iPhone is too clunky to navigate with one hand. The mini was perfect for this. Battery was the only reason I bought a 12 and not 12 mini. I would have upgraded if iPhone 14 mini existed with the same battery life as the 13. I don’t care about plus size phones because frankly Android has better offerings in those sizes.
I'll say that I happily picked car A the first time because the only stat relevant to the track analogy was the acceleration. The others were for power.
I agree with you and this is well put together. I don't think I will upgrade my Samsung S22U for the next few cycles of upgrades. The tech is now about software and other incremental upgrades rather than significant tech improvements.
Your car connection problems happened to me last week! For some reason it didn't play audio through my car speakers for a whole day. Then the following day it returned to normal. Super weird.
Wireless carplay connection has always been crap. Here’s a trick I use. Start car and do something with the phone. I close my garage. You can start navigation or play music. Doing anything will help it connect.
I love Car Analogies because I use them all the time 😂 But another part where numbers don't tell the whole story is in cameras! People say "Oh, more MPs, is better" but it's more about a balance between MPs and the size of the sensor, and even with that, I've seen great things happen when you use software to combine the pixels, like, it's definitely not as simple as "More MPs = Better Photos" 😅
Love the fact that he explained you should choose your phone based on what specs you really want to have in pocket, other than benchmarks and stuffs. That's the tech reviewer we need. These days, high ratio of society is choosing branded and expensive smartphones to show off their social status. (you may which brand I mean). Thanks Marques.
Great point on the benchmark thing , and that also leads us to another annoying thing about benchmarks and more particularly , these big phone makers often taking these facts and figures way out of context for marketing purposes , in some instances showing fancy colourful graphs showing performance increases in big splashy detail , but then in the fine print it mentions up against a device model 2 or 3 years old😂. And we saw this I think on more than one occasion with apples marketing of MacBooks and Mac Studio .
@@RealJoseph123 those tips are just stupid... using auto brightness instead of using it at 100% all the time. No shit Sherlock that this helps the battery lasting longer.
I have been watching Marques for literal years about IPhone reviews and which phone to get. Honestly, best reviews because of how in depth he goes for us.
A few weeks after using iOS 16 I noticed there's the "fitness" app included which if you activate will starts counting your footstep when you set a goal in mind. Battery decrease is insignificant but actually noticable since the phone's gyro and other sensors were on constantly being read by the phone, this was coming from iPhone 8 plus with relatively new battery (150ish total cycles, replaced in Jan 2022, and always using 15W fast charger from Anker) at 97% health after 9-10 months of use.
All Android phones count footsteps and it has no real effect on battery, so I can't imagine it's that. Unless the app itself is jusy that poorly optimized.
@@TySchmidt I first experience that back in 2014 with the Galaxy S5 when it was brand new, back then battery consumption wasn’t that relevant to me but it did felt degraded after 2 years of normal use (one of many factors are the poorly optimized SoC and software).
If you’re experiencing any bugs with the device’s hardware, take it to an Apple store for a swap. Your original phone will be shipped off to Engineers at Apple so they can further research into why it might be experiencing problems.
this is terrible advise. Apple store technicians won’t swap devices for software bugs. There needs to be a specific hardware failure. You bring the phone to a store and you’re gonna leave with the same phone only fully erased with a fresh version of the OS.
@@katzenjunge5869 No, he said a BUG in the hardware if you actually read the first sentence. BUGS do not live in hardware. Bugs are software related. Ironically you’re trying to change what he said to “problem with the hardware” because you know what he actually said makes 0 sense. You should learn to read first.
@@lilcourtny08 this is the dumbest statement I’ve ever heard. Bugs are not STORED in hardware. Hardware failures are stored in hardware. Bugs are STORED in operating systems. Hardware issues can manifest aka show themselvres as a software bugs or issues within the software but that’s not a guarantee. Saying a bug is stored in hardware is like saying your Tesla can’t self navigate because a tire is flat. They can impact each other but are not direct 1 to 1 CAUSES of each other. You don’t have a flat BECAUSE your navigation doesn’t work. Causation does not equal correlation. The issues described in the video like battery drain are cause by the OS. Meaning an update can fix them. If it was hardware then the battery condition would be failing. I guarantee you that if you go to the store and complain about these issues they’re going to tell you the battery is fine and to update your phone or erase it all. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about at all. How about you go to a actual technician and see what they say? I’ll wait right here.
Been using my 14 pro max for about a week now on iOS 16.0.2, guess I'm one of the lucky ones I haven't experienced any of the bugs mentioned in the video and battery is insanely good. Maybe it has something to do with the region? I live in Cambodia and iPhone stock here comes from HK mostly. My 14 pro max has a sim card slot for dual sim. Wonder if anything to do with that. So far all of my friends' 14 pro max experience has been the same as mine. Finger crossed
I’ve found that the battery drain and iPhone overheating issue is due to the 5G and Wi-Fi transition. At time the Wi-Fi will connect to an access point (AP) that’s either busy or has no connection. When this happens iCloud become unresponsive and the phone starts to time out. At times if you are playing music through Apple Music the music will stop or once Wi-Fi reconnects the music will skip to a different song. Apple car play will also time out as well as GPS for third party apps such as Waze or Google Maps. I suggested to Apple that before connecting to an AP the phone should ping to check latency and then connect once it can determine ip availability. The blended 5G and Wi-Fi causes the phone to freeze or heat up at times due to the iPhone requiring the use of iCloud to authenticate, verify and access information. I feel if this changes then transition will be seem less.
"Best battery life ever in an iPhone..." charged through a decade-old cable that maxes out at 20W. Isn't this the real problem?
Not everything is perfect… 😅
If they gave you fast charging you wouldn’t buy MagSafe charging
I mean the s22 ultra is 45w(og put 25w), not much difference tbh. Besides that the battery life will last you all day with some bit left at the end of the day
@@isaiahjackson1211 to keep my phone in the best condition yes I already spent my life savings on it so why not spend more to make it better
Fast charging heats up the phone way faster which degrades the battery faster. If phones were tablet sized and companies invested as much money into them, we'd have excellent cooling and fast charging above 50w would be the standard, but they're not
Edit : I do not blame fast chargers alone fyi.

That's wasteful

One of the primary issues with today's marketing is the the lack of ingenuity in order to promote cash grabs. Nowadays it's more about the amount of sales instead of the amount of real satisfaction. Thanks for touching on this, it says a lot.

BORING.

As a car and tech enthusiast, that was the BEST benchmark analogy I've ever seen in my life. Bravo! 4:20...

He nailed that analogy with the cars
Your reviews are always *PERFECT* in my opinion you addressed things that I’ve experienced, spoke on, and was concerned about.

My pro max as well and I’m a heavy user 👍🏽

Can definitely get behind the battery issue, though it may extend to battery health as well. Have had a 12 mini for only about a year now, but after updating, not only did the battery life get SIGNIFICANTLY worse (which is made more confusing by the fact that it was already pretty bad), but my battery health is already down to 89%. My previous iPhone only got down to that amount of battery health after almost two years, and I’m pretty sure the majority of the tank was shortly after I updated, considering just about a week ago it read as 91%.
Same thing happened to me!!!
Think the 12 series in general had worse battery health over time. Mine dropped really fast last year.
My 11 pro was at 79% now it’s down to 74 all in however long iOS 16 has been out
They obviously design updates in a way that deteriorates previous gen phones, forcing you to buy their latest model
try disabling keyboard haptic feedback if you have it on. once i did this, my 2nd gen SE reverted back to pretty much normal battery drainage
Little tip here
The variable refresh rate OLED is worth mentioning as well, it might actually be more efficient than the 60Hz
You just killed it with the track car analogy
Any one else agrees that the effort marques puts into his videos is unmatched? Even that car reference I was not expecting that. keep up the good work💯💯🔥🔥👍🏽👍🏽
So, I've noticed an increase in connection problems with Wireless CarPlay as well. iPhone 13 Pro though so it's gotta be something in iOS 16. When it does connect it connects quickly...but sometimes the only way I can get it to connect is to toggle Airplane Mode on and off then try again.
the car analogy was bang on! Simple and no B.S. ! u r unmatched in making all the stuff so simple
I was going for the 14 Plus, but then I saw AT&T had the 13 Pro Max for $20 a month, and decided to go for the better phone with the same chipset.
I have the 14 pro max 1tb for $22/month.
what are these per month deals? how do they work exactly?

@Mr_Zurkie how is the battery without always on display?
@@sinz1516 much better. I would consider myself someone who uses the phone a good amount of the day and I noticed about a 12% increase in battery life on a day to day usage.

The rotate Lock Screen bug happens to my iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 16 too, but it is very easy to fix every time it happens.
Everytime ? This happens a lot ?
@@greengoesup1027 Mostly when I want to modify the Lock Screen. But it’s not that frequent.
The bug happens to me too not as major as having to restart my phone but a lot of time when I hold it it makes my screen rotate and stay like that until I turn it off.
He has a matt black shirt that says "red" 😂😂 peak MKBHD
Yeah I agree. iOS 16 on my iPhone 13 Pro, it seems the battery life is much shorter compared from the previous iOS 15.6… Usually after a long day, I still have 35% left in the evening. But on iOS 16, it will be just around 20%.. Significant difference.
I tottally agree.
These phones (14 and 14+) should receive the bust prize this year if you ask me.
The auto-rotate bug in the lock screen is an ios 16 issue . I have an iphone Xs max and it happens multiple times throughout the day
Of course it's an iOS16 bug... what else should it be? An hardware issue? Clearly not...
@@Raja995mh33 Maybe os15, os14 the problem doesn't exist blabla. Not sure why you're being a smartass
Marques making a Car reference for a phone explanation is like "if my grandma had wheels, she would be a car" moment XD
I love the aod on this, everyone should have done this in the first place
@@avinashprakash2309 I assume you mean by dimming the lock screen. As a response to that I would say that:
1. When aods were made they would have drawn a lot more power
2. You maintain similar functionally, or well basically a clock and notifications, maybe a picture
Love the auto analogy!
6:36 *iPhone (22)*
weird flex. 😅
I’m not buying another iPhone until the mini comes back…
I love my 12, and I was considering upgrading to the 14, but without that option, it feels like I’m just buying an iPad mini-mini
I think the Mini will return as a repackaged iPhone SE
@Nikolai small enough to make the PP look huge 😂
Yeah standard size is good
@Nikolai ahahhhahaha😂😂😂😂
Great review & I agree - every year has been incremental steps rather massive improvements prior to the previous year.
I agree with you and this is well put together. I don't think I will upgrade my Samsung S22U for the next few cycles of upgrades. The tech is now about software and other incremental upgrades rather than significant tech improvements.
Can't wait to see that Lyriq video!
I would still go for a 13 Pro Max to 14 plus
5:27 mkbhd x carwow, a dream ! i liked this car analogy
Great point on the benchmark thing , and that also leads us to another annoying thing about benchmarks and more particularly ,
these big phone makers often taking these facts and figures way out of context for marketing purposes , in some instances showing fancy colourful graphs showing performance increases in big splashy detail , but then in the fine print it mentions up against a device model 2 or 3 years old😂.
And we saw this I think on more than one occasion with apples marketing of MacBooks and Mac Studio .
Benchmarks are the secret twins of spec lists. You read that first here.
Interesting to see a midnight launch. Imagine it's for a reason
The comparisons between the phones and the vehicle, was a good one.
I wonder if the 14 Pro Max would beat the 14 Plus in battery life if you turned off Always On Display and ProMotion 🤔
And also auto brightness and using the battery tips from ZolloTech.
@@RealJoseph123 those tips are just stupid... using auto brightness instead of using it at 100% all the time. No shit Sherlock that this helps the battery lasting longer.

(as always and excellent video)
I remember back in iPhone 5s era, after certain iOS update (7?), my phone already counting my footstep in the health app

Great analogy... absolutely on point.
@@tenohira8454 dude he said bring it to an apple store if you have a problem with the HARDWARE in the first sentence. Learn to read.
@@tenohira8454 bugs are stored in hardware so what is your point.
Its because the people posting bug videos are on 16.0 refusing to update and looking for views and attention. Even saw people posting fake videos.
@@macbookpr0 that is really sad...
What are those home screen widgets? They are clean.
I’m surprised. I’ve had iOS 16 since the beta and not many bugs. And my 14 Pro Max battery is incredible.
I’m sure they’ll iron out the outliers
