    Thank you so much for making this video! I've waited 2 weeks and nobody ever made a comparison between the 2. Looks like Android does actually take advantage of 8GB of RAM but I don't think the average person would use that much memory :P

    • @Itzagundam
      @Itzagundam 7 років тому +8

      I don't think it's the extra 2gb of ram as much as the fact that the increased storage. Even with SSDs you can have two identical SSDs, one being 120gb the other being 240gb the 240gb is usually a little faster. That said if you go into developer settings on the oneplus and disable the background process limit. Not sure how much effect it actually has though.

      No it doesn't take advantage of the extra 2 Gb of ram.
      OP just limits the 6 Gb variant somehow from the software to make it look like it needs more RAM.
      Go for the facts people !
      How come every galaxy device works just fine with just 4 Gb RAM.

    I know this is nowhere near a normal use case, but the idea of almost never having to see an app refresh is very appealing to me. 128GB is hard to turn down too at such a reasonable upgrade cost, especially when you consider the lack of expandable storage.

      Actually Android does a lot of caching like all Linux flavours does, so 2 Gigs of caching helps a lot over the day. Opening an App a second time after some hours is much faster if the CPU can just load it from the cache than the storage. :)
      Also the battery life should be a bit better, using the RAM instead of the flash-drive more often safes energy. :)

    Well this video makes happy that I ordered the 6GB :P I never keep a lot of apps open so I doubt I'll ever get a single reload if that's how much needs to be running at the same time to make it reload.
    Also is it just me or did the 6GB model start most of the apps quicker on the first time?

    hahaha why should i buy the 8 gb model? its unnecessary. no one opens 20 apps at the same time without cleaning the ram. absolutly bullshit. for the daily stuff the 6 gb model is sufficient

    • @dr.harshad.fitness
      @dr.harshad.fitness 7 років тому +6

    • @marceldiezasch6192
      @marceldiezasch6192 7 років тому +3

      Oh, I can imagine some people opening 20 apps. The thing is that your normal app takes maybe one fifth the RAM of one of those huge games. If you aren't switching between 5 games constantly the phone could very well keep 40+ apps in RAM.

    • @shubhammhashelkar6717
      @shubhammhashelkar6717 7 років тому +7

      David Klaus if you clear your ram it will negatively affect your battery life because then your processor needs to load apps again the next time you open them

    Looking at this test, I realize I'll never need that many RAM. There's no point in time I'll have 4 games in RAM like that, haha.
    That's really the true question you'll have to ask when making a decision; will you actually have tonnes of heavy app in the background and are you planning to multi task between them?
    Really most people won't.

    Just a tip, if you're going to do a RAM management test, open the apps in reverse order. If you go from the start, the first app is more likely to reload on both, and won't tell you anything.
    If you do it in reverse order, it might end up showing that the 6GB only held 1 app less than the 8GB.

    Processor is the same. It's kind of expected. Large RAM helps you in multitasking with lots of apps and also if some app can allocate more than 5 gigs of RAM at a point of time. Hence, as of now, 8 gigs RAM is overkill IMO.

    I feel like the aggressive doze on the 6gb version is closing apps too early. I have an OP3 with doze off, and apps almost never refresh.

    One thing I noticed is that the 8gb version has a pattern, which means it's encrypted. I'm not sure whether or not that makes a difference, as I believe it decrypts everything when you unlock it, but something to keep in mind.

    It would have been great if you went to settings and show how much ram is still AVAILABLE in each devices man. And if the ram available is enough in both (imagine there are 1gb spare in the 6gb and 2 or 3 in the 8gb) then both cells would run fine with all those apps indeed.
    Ram is also usefull for photo and specially video edition, remember . And other things.

    Sure the 8gb ram seems overkill, but i see it as a future-proofing option. I still remember few years back when people said 2gb ram is enough. Now that's not even a bare minimum! So in the long run, if you don't plan on changing your phone in the next few years, then the 8gb model is certainly the one to get.

    What the heck *did i just see* ?
    The speed depends on the Chipset itself and *NOT* on the RAM size. Although in cases when RAM is full of apps the phone would behave laggy. However, 6GB is pretty much *ENOUGH FOR ANY ANDROID USER* . I don't think and don't
    wanna think that anyone renders his videos on his smartphone or anything like that. The result should be really crappy. It's not that the phone you used is crappy, but the fact that the phones *ARE NOT EQUAL TO COMPUTERS* , we don't need so much RAM, the only thing that this does is decreasing the battery life and in some cases it causes bottleneck or overkill due to the cpu not be able to handle all the data the RAM sends it. Even if you are some kind of an Alien and need so much RAM to run like 40 apps on the background, it would be an absolute big hit on the battery-it wouldnt even last a full hour i would say, maybe two in smartphones with big batteries-.

  • @pyro226
    @pyro226 7 років тому

    I didn't see the 8GB one refresh at all. I wonder how many more apps it could hold in memory? Maybe 4 more games than the 6GB version? The scroll lag on Google play as it tried to download the thumbnails was painful XD It was interesting to see that itdropped medium size apps first. I wonder if it is due to opening order or if the phone is holding onto bigger apps because they are slower to load. Also, should have opened apps in reverse. By opening them in sequential order, you forced the phone to reload every single game. Average use would be sticking more toward opening favorite apps (frequently / recently accessed), so going sequentially and forcing the phone to reload all apps makes hitting the ram limit look worse than it really is.

    Thanks a lot buddy for sharing this video i am waiting for some one to compare both variant and you did it...... and what i get from this video is that there is not that much difference between both set most app opening are at same time and if some one notice few games or apps open slightly faster on 6GB Ram variant like angry birds and also you wont find any major difference when you open all apps again very slightly difference for me 64gb is enough its not that bad to save few bucks
    Again a big Shout out for Trimmers

      Chris fatherheart I've been using the Moto G5 for a few months now and haven't had any problems (yet) seems very capable for the price( gaming, calls, general use), i'll probably upgrade to the oneplus 5 or Samsung S8/S8+ but for now the G5 is my daily driver only cause it can play high end games from play store.

    I kinda like the slate grey model. Moreover, 8gb ram is way too much, however, 128gb of storage is the one that's keeping me from buying the slate grey. Wish they had a grey 128 gb model without the 8gb ram.

    I have the 8gb ram/128 gb rom version. After closings all apps, I check my memory available via a third party app and it shows I have 3 gigs of ram available. Nothing in the background, and I doubt Android needs 5 gigs of RAM to run. Maybe I'm missing something? IDK, but I'd dish out the extra bucks and just get the 8 gig version. More memory is never a bad thing anyway.

  • @VelcuzOldChannel

    Didn't see anything that would be worth the 60€ difference to 8gb... And if you have that many apps open in the background, your battery is draining really fast anyway so 6gb 64gb for me, don't need same amount of ram on my phone that I have on my gaming laptop LOL. Great video though, been looking for a comparison between these two!

    • @VelcuzOldChannel
      @VelcuzOldChannel 7 років тому

      Yeah might be, all though people have said that they have hit the 5gb mark on heavy use, but not more than that. I agree, battery should be a bigger priority, not 8gb of RAM, but luckily OnePlus has dash charging.

    If I decide to go with OnePlus 5, the 8gb model really worth +60€? What is your opinion guys? The thing is that 64Gb is more than enough to me :/ and with the money I would save I would buy the sandstone case and the bullet earphones and save ~30€
