  • A clear and easy video on how to convert your BBQ grill from Natural Gas to LP Propane, or vice versa. (following the same basic procedures) The key is to have the right tools and the right parts -especially the right size orifices (brass nozzles). I am not a licensed whatever whatever so stay safe, don't try this at home, etc. etc. Yes, I am aware that in the video I said "ratchet" when I intended to say "open end wrench." ok relax! - just trying to help you folks to save a LOT of money.
Parts to purchase beforehand include: hand drill bit set ($15 on amazon), pipe thread sealant (this is a must! don't try to use some other product as a substitute - $4 on amazon), Brass jet nozzles (orifices) size: "M6 x 0.75mm thread and 0.5mm nozzle ($8 on amazon)," a Universal low pressure propane hose and regulator model : "QCC1" (2 feet long is usually fine; $16 on amazon). this is the final step which I did not show in the video. the best part is from the Weber website and its item number 67069. Connect the hose in place of where your Natural gas hose was. simple.

Something the narrator forgot to mention: The orifice air mix needs to be adjusted on each burner, by rotating the metal sleeve covering the screening to reduce the opening size. The propane will not ignite at the natural gas opening setting (too much air diluting the propane). Also, the orifices work as bought and don’t require drilling the opening larger.

I inadvertently bought a NG Weber Spirit 2 not knowing the difference between NP and Propane, and then stupidly just changed out the hose to LP Propane. The flames were hot and high! Stumbled upon this video and ordered the replacement brass orifices. (.5mm and drill bits to assure correct sizing.). In my case, the flame was then too low, (unit only came up to 350'f).
Given my lesson about using the NG orifice which was too big, I continued to re-drill my new brass orifices to .8mm and it now works like a dream.
I know a lot of people are correctly cautioning about doing what I did. If my experience helps, there it is. Mark, thank you for the video!

Ok good luck. You’ll need to remove the regulator and get the hose that’s for Natural gas. Also the 3 orifices will need to be changed for larger opening or yiu could drill them. (Which is probably what I’d do). Also the air vent on each burner Tube will need to be closed more. Meaning for. Propane is require more air vent, for natural gas it requires less vent.

I used the blackstone griddle natural gas conversion kit for my Weber genesis e310 and everything worked perfectly! I was looking at a kit online for the grill conversion and it cost $115+ where the blackstone kit was $49. The one online came with a 1/2 psi regulator and from my research a residential meter regulates your home to 1/4 psi so there was no point in having the 1/2 psi one since it cant get that high anyway. I hooked everything up with a shutoff valve below the quick connect and it works perfectly and now I can also plug my griddle into the line, so no more propane!! Hope this helps and saves you some cash.

@@markjaquith8359 Thank you again. Per your advice I got the 0.50 jets and the 0.80 mm drill bit(s). I discovered that even the smallest collet I have for my Dremel would not 'hold' this tiny drill bit. And I didn't have the hand tool that you used. So . . . what I did - and it worked quite well - was to put the jet in my handheld drill chuck - lightly tightening it. I then put the drill in a small pair of Vice-Grips. So as I'm sure you've just guessed. I rotated not the drill bit, but rather the jet . . . with the Vice-Grips I 'pressed' the drill bit to the existing hole and had the handheld drill rotate the jet . . . carefully. It worked well and I got the jet drilled out. I used some 1000 sandpaper to smooth everything down, and now I'm ready to go. I HOPED I could use the natural gas hose and especially the expensive quick-release fittings that are on the grill . . . but researched and have been advised to absolutely NOT use ANYTHING from the natural gas 'system.' So thank you again!

Kevin, the reason it won’t ignite is the air mixture is not properly adjusted for propane. You will need to rotate the metal sleeve that covers each burner screen to reduce the size of the air opening from the natural gas setting to the smaller propane setting. I had the same problem, because there was too much air mixing with the propane, so it would not burn. Good luck!

No! Do not make the orifice openings any bigger or they become useless for Gas LP. If no gas flow then maybe you used excess pipe dope and clogged the hole. (?) Or maybe your tank is mostly empty and the gas is not getting through. If your propane tank is older than 8 years I highly suggest getting a new one. Could be dangerous. Very irresponsible to be giving advice on something as serious as a fuel conversion. Especially in such a non technical way. Each model of Weber has a different BTU rating. Using a paper clip as your guide as to which size drill bit needed is not a good idea. This video is for converting a 2 burner Spirit model, a 3 burner Spirit has a different BTU rating therefore a different size hole. Same thing with the Genesis and Summit Models, they all have different BTU ratings per burner and different size holes.
