    My father had a John Deere 600 diesel Industrial with factory loader. The 600 was based on the 4010, that was a very tough tractor. Found it back about 4 years ago in a junk yard, still ran but in rough shape. They wanted 5k for it Canadian, kinda wish I made an offer on it.

    Very interested in that 1010. Currently restoring one myself that has a 115 gas engine in it was wondering if you might have some input on the option of boring it out and getting over sized pistons instead of buying a new liner/deck.

    • @so.md.dirtfarmer2226
      @so.md.dirtfarmer2226  Рік тому

      Can you find oversize pistons? How worn are the sleeves? If you can hone and get the bore fairly even top to bottom you could knurl the piston skirts and get oversize rings and file the correct end gap. I don't know where you are located, but we do that kind of work in our shop. The gas 1010 we have has a 2010 diesel block and bore size, it has 175 cubic inches. We had sleeves made and fit them into the deck plate, used automotive pistons , cut the rods in half and welded chevy small ends to 'em to make 'em the right length for the shorter piston. We turned it 6000 RPMs.

    • @attack0321
      @attack0321 Рік тому

      Damn 6000 rpm’s that’s really impressive!! And I can’t find over sized pistons that are meant for it I’ve been looking into finding a piston that would meet the size I need. I’ve never hear of knurling a piston skirt. Do u just chuck it up in a lathe and knurl it? It’s 30 thousands below size. I can get ver sized rings. How much do you think I could gain with a knurled skirt?

    • @so.md.dirtfarmer2226
      @so.md.dirtfarmer2226  Рік тому

      @@attack0321 .030 is a lot of wear. Call Martin parts & repair, 574-598-6083, they have oversize pistons for 1010 gas, not cheap.

    • @attack0321
      @attack0321 Рік тому

      Thank you I’ll give them a call in the morning. I did some research on piston knurling too. That’s a pretty cool concept. How do you knurl yours? Does the knurling hold up long?

    • @so.md.dirtfarmer2226
      @so.md.dirtfarmer2226  Рік тому

      @@attack0321 We have a knurling tool for our lathe. Yeah it's just supposed to minimize piston slap, keeping the piston from cocking too much in the bore.
