- The Chiefs are 2-0 after their thrilling one-point victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last week, but they are not without concerns. Running back Isiah Pacheco is lost for an extended time with an ankle injury, and left tackle Kingsley Suamataia played so poorly last weekend he was benched.
At running back, the Chiefs signed their former standout Kareem Hunt. We address why that might not be the best move.
We discuss those storylines and more on SportsBeat KC, The Star’s sports podcast, with beat writer Jesse Newell and columnists Vahe Gregorian and Sam McDowell. We also look ahead to the Chiefs’ first road game, against the Atlanta Falcons.

I can’t believe the rookie left tackle had a rough showing against one of the best pass rushers in the league, in the second game of his career, hung out to dry by the formations and play calling. They gave Orlando Brown Jr more help than that.
They improved the roster over last year. It will take time for all the changes to manifest themselves. That doesn't mean they won't make a move, here or there, to get better, like the Mike Edwards pickup a couple years back.
What I see is once again a fundamentally sound football team. They never set out to lose a game, but they also play in a manner that's pointing towards a better future. Sometimes that means hanging guys out to dry, and losing some snaps, here and there, to the other team.
I love watching the evolution over the course of a season. Seeing the potential and watching it eventuate on the field. There'll be growing pains with the young tackles, fighting for that starting spot on the left flank. The silver lining to Pacheco's unfortunate injury is that they've got the line this year to do some wicked running. People are talking about Perine's snap count going up, but so will the rookie's.
As far as the running game goes, I don't think we've seen more than a glimpse of what they're going to be able to do. They're playing it very safe with the young tackles (whichever one is in) in the running game. Giving them safe jobs that won't make or break the play. Combo blocks, with Thuney releasing to the LB. Back-side block that doesn't really matter. Both those young tackles have good feet, and could do more in the ground game. Take some of the stress off the pass pro'.
I think the line as a whole is athletic enough to zone block to either side, and run out of it well enough that Mahomes can set up a real outpost to either flank, and chuck the ball like Peyton Manning used to do. Get defenses worried about the pitch. Reid sort of stays away from that stuff, but you can't tell me that Mahomes can't execute that as well as Manning, or throw the ball better from that outpost.
I’m thinking a dinner party at Vahe’s for a good long Chiefs discussion is called for. Can he live up to the fancy kitchen?
Bro when Pat is good he’s good BUT When he’s bad his bad. He’s a lucky QB. Honestly.
He paid his price McDowell stop crying
It’s been 6 years. Get over it. He hasn’t had any issues in Cleveland. Reid and Mahomes are OK with giving him a 2nd chance. I trust them much more.
Question : will the refs call a fair and unbiased game. I doubt it.
