Re: Sean Taylor. I have never seen a defensive player so effortlessly and so cleanly be able to recover a fumble and keep moving. he did it in that game against Philly; he did it again the following week @ Tampa in the Wild Card game. Also when he picked up that blocked FGA v. Cowboys. So often we see bumblin' and stumblin' trying to fall on the ball but it's like the ball is magnetized to his gloves. RIP.
I can remember where I was in my life in all of these highlights. They are more than just greatest moments from this team but a window into someone’s life.
D.C. is naturally a media town -- from George Preston Marshall promoting televising the league coast to coast, to George Micheal's Sports Machine being the precursor to ESPN and everything like it and even now to Chris Cooley's Film Breakdown on the radio. D.C. leads in media talent and innovation and always has. That culture shows in the sophistication and talent that goes into these videos. You won't find stuff like this for many -- or any -- other teams. Thank you, HTTR TJ. HTTR, always and forever.
At least you had the Grant interception, but in three videos you left out one of the greatest ever: Ken Houston taking down Walt Garrison, just outside the end zone, to end a Monday night win against Dallas, with what has been called one of the greatest open field tackles ever made. The front-page photo in the Washington Post next morning, taken just before Garrison was thrown down, showed him with one foot down, the other leg extended toward the end zone; Houston with one foot down, the other leg pointing back upfield. Pure one-on-one muscle.
How about the game during the George Allen era, when Ken Houston tackled the bull wrestler Walt Garrison at the one, preserving the win. After tying the game at 7, RFK was rockin'. Howard Cosell started singing (if you could call it that) Hail to the Redskins, and Don Meredith said "Shut up, Howard!" Next play, the Skins intercepted a pass and ran it in for the winning touchdown, setting up Houston's game ending heroics.
