Definitely going to be keeping up with the devlogs. Its always so satisfying seeing a games visual style, and graphical quality change and improve throughout development. Love how you can swap every section of the armor too, not just legs, torso, arms, and head, but even down to the feet and hands. My personal take, I always find it far more enticing to play games such as this when there are long and short term things to work towards. So definitely think of ways keep progression interesting and investing. Maybe some more rare unlocks could be locked behind challenges, or player levels.
Thanks! regarding player leveling I haven't thought too much about that, I know I do want a leveling system, but not sure if I want ranks like Halo or just a simple number system. That's probably something I will ask for feedback in one of the next devlogs. But yeah, I definitely want long and short term goals. There will be plenty of customization to unlock. I've never thought about having unlocks for player levels, but I have thought about unlocks for challenges. Maybe things like weapon and vehicle skins will require you to kill a certain number of people with that weapon, or drive a certain distance in that vehicle to get certain skins. Who knows?! Oh trust me, it is. It slows your movement and your aim. Overtime it may be tweaked and nerfed, but for now it works. We haven't had a full 8 player game yet, so we're not yet sure on how overpowered it is in that environment, but it definitely is a bit overpowered with fewer people. I'm trying to get more Titanfall inspiration in, as currently it's only the grappling hook, but if I ever get around to a campaign, Titanfall will play a big part in inspiring that. I want a great story like Titanfall. edit: I also want to take some inspiration from TF2 for the animations. Hyper's animations are just so damn good.
@@capnc4keit would be cool if the tron lights faded to a arc reactor like glowing section in the chest of the character so that if hit on the limbs at low outer shield, you have a chance to take health damage or you take both health and shield damage. If you want ideas on how you would implement this, i would make a hitbox for each section of the character model and link stats to that instead of a hotbox for the entire character. It's fine if you don't want to do this though.
This looks like you have a deep passion for Halo and want to take it back to the old days of when it was actually fun. I'm pretty sure Halo Infinite and Concord left a sour taste in your mouth. They definitely did for me.

I think an assassination animation where you choke another player with your gun would be cool. Like strangling. I’m not sure how this would work with pistols though
It would either have to be a weapon specific animation, or something else. Still have yet to get around and fully flesh out the assassination system, but thanks for the idea!

There is both recoil and weapon sway. I have been thinking about a better way to do weapon sway tho. As for recoil, I've just gotten so good at controlling all the guns recoil that it may seem like there is none.
obviously you’re a halo fan and so i assume you know the… well state of the game franchise. i feel like i’m order to differentiate yourself a little bit you could add a lot of interactions like shooting a pipe causes smoke to spew everywhere and moving platforms and energy bridges stuff like that. interactions and special events really create core gaming memories but this is multiplayer and that’s pretty tough to do! but everything look great seriously props to you man i’m subbing! ps: for the art style you could do something like PS1 with low res pixelated textures. there are a lot of sci-fi games with clean futuristic graphics so maybe a little bit of grit would help stand it apart! pps: assassination idea: your player knocks the other over and starts aggressively tea bagging
Yeah, the state of Halo is sad, and Halo players are mostly my target audience. And YES. Ask anyone that knows anything about Onyx, and they'll tell you (hopefully) that I love map interactions. I definitely want to have an assortment of them, but that's something that we'll have to mess around with once we get more maps, and the themes for those maps. (I've had an idea for a BTB map interaction, and it'll be super fun if it works how I want). Thanks for the sub! It means alot! especially with how small my channel currently is. ps: I've always wanted to go for a stylized art direction, like old fortnite, or Valorant, but with the armor being more inspired by Iron Man, it may not fit, but we'll still give it a test. Fuck this looks like it has potential for real. For indicating the shield level with the tron lights on the suit, are you going to go for a color scheme, like green for full shield then when it decreases the color changes to yellow orange and then red for low? I’m kinda interested in what the plans are for that.
That is an interesting idea. However, the lights colors are customizable, so it wouldn't be as easy as just changing the colors. My idea wad to have the light be a progress bar that "shrinks" towards the center of the chest. So if someone's lights are completely glowing, then you know they're full, but if you only see the lights around their chest, then you know they're low
any idea for an art style that might be a bit less standard for games in the genre? maybe like everyone being dressed like a t rex or something like that. might grab people's attention. game looks really fun btw
I have thought about doing tutorials. But that's something I'm going to save a bit later down the line though. I'm also not sure what I would do for tutorials yet, so if you've got any ideas let me know!
Trust me, there won't be a battle pass. I despise free to play games. It'll be like classic halo reach where you'll unlock everything through credits that you earn through playing. We're still working on it, however we've just taken a little break. But there's sure to be an update within the next few months hopefully
That wouldn't really fit the arena gameplay all too well, and would probably require a rework of all the maps and gamemodes. I do plan on having a pve "horde mode" for those that want it.

As long as the variables that you are using for the animation blueprint are replicated, then each client will see that same thing (relatively). As for things like shooting and throwing grenades, every time a player does that, the server just sends out an RPC to tell all clients to play that animation. That's pretty much it

Seems like a blend of Halo 5 and Reach, with a bit of Halo 3 sprinkled in with the equipment and 4 grenade types.
That's mostly the vibe I'm going for, with a few others sprinkled in, so I'm glad to see that's what people are seeing it as!
