As an EV6 GT owner, living in a major metropolitan area and only having seen 5 of them since launch, I can guarantee you that Kia will sell no more than 100 of these the first year (unless it fudges sales numbers like it does for the EV9). The demographics would have to be people who want a 3 row, fast, EV. Can't imagine what the focus group was like for this terrible business decision.

      Over 22k ev9s sold so far 🤡

@@dna3575 Reading comprehension, you clown. I said GT, not GT-Line. And the EV9 sales so far have been fraudulent. Look up the dealer lawsuits and talk to the dealer owners who are forced into shady tactics to make EV9s look like they are sold.

What nonsense, there are endless amounts of people driving large SUVs with big power. Why do people buy the Dodge Durango hellcat, or a Cadillac Escalade-V, a BMW X7 M60i, Mercedes GLS 63 AMG, Mercedes EQS 580, Tesla Model X and so on? They have a market and often appeal to the family car that is asked to do it all, be practical yet fun.

@@DeadlyDizzle-yn1vz You have to overcome three very specific demographic obstacles for this car. EV adoption rates are declining. And then those who want a 3 row low-range hauler. And then those want even further reduced range by getting the performance version. HMG is not doing well, unless you count the fake sales/leases.

Where do you get your information because it’s so factually incorrect? Firstly, there’s already an established demand for big, fast SUVs. This has existed for over a decade now. Manufacturers wouldn’t be spending billions combined if there was no demand. Daily here in the UK, I see SV Range Rovers, GLS’s, Volvo T8’s etc. Then there are the more special ones that I listed in my last comment. People with adequate resources still will always buy the most superior version of EVERY mainstream car. A large SUV is very common in the west, and there are those who desire speed with that, there always has been and always will be.
Your take on the EV9 is way off. First, your claim that Kia would struggle to sell 100 units in the first year is already proven wrong, by September 2024, Kia had sold 15,970 EV9 units in the US alone, which is its 3rd biggest market for volume annually. That’s not ‘fudged numbers’ that’s real demand. Worldwide you can expect double that number and beyond.
Second, your point about EV adoption rates declining isn’t supported by data. Global EV sales are still growing year over year, and while the pace of growth might fluctuate briefly, the overall trend remains upward. The major brands are doubling down on EV investment, which wouldn’t happen if demand was truly collapsing.
Finally, performance-oriented 3-row SUVs sell well in both gas and EV segments. Look at the demand for the cars I mentioned like the Escalade-V, Durango Hellcat, or Rivian R1S. People want fast, spacious SUVs, and the EV9 GT fits right into that market but is arguably cheaper to keep on the road.
So no, the EV9 isn’t a ‘terrible business decision’ - the numbers prove otherwise.
