The most terrifying thing about the markers is that once you're under their influence, you can no longer trust your own senses. There's no way to know for certain if anything you see or hear is real.
That’s one thing I love about psychological horrors/thrillers is when you’re not sure if it’s real or all in the mind. The markers are so interesting in that regard but also as you say so terrifying.

Friendly reminder the game used that orange tint and alien text flashing and screen shake so that the player knows it's not real, Issac however doesn't see it like that, for him it's really there. It's reality.
Gonna guess you beat the remake already so I agree kinda but thats from the game developers and it's so we see what Issac sees, same with the twist they gave the ending. We as players know this isn't real but we need to believe it's real through issacs eyes.

Actually, even if the spaceship with the infector had not landed in the Ishimura, it was a matter of time that a necromorph outbreak would happen. The marker was already in the ship and people were already loosing their minds, a portion of them would mass suicide eventually and the marker signal would alter the dead bodies to make the necros. And even if they could supress the people that were most affected by the marker, they had already brought a lot of dead bodies from Aegis´ colony and they were a time bomb with the marker on board.
@@Puggy42069 If my memory is right, which I’ll admit I could have it wrong, the marker signal itself is capable of altering dead tissue to repurpose it into any necromorph form, depending on the amount of necrotic tissue present - such as the infector, your standard slashers, to larger ones like the leviathan on the ship that we fight in hydroponics, or the hive mind. Infectors are made from human remains, and are a conduit for the marker to massively speed up the process of spreading the infection though, as we’ve seen. Don’t need to waste time driving people mad if you can just have a foot soldier kill and repurpose them for you. Think of it like the marker just needs to knock over the first domino by driving someone to suicide and reshaping them into an infector, after that, the infector gets to work knocking the rest down, killing and infecting more and more until game over.
@@Puggy42069 where do you think infectors come from? They don't appear out of nowhere. the Marker itself can also turn bodies into necromorphs with help of some bacteria/virus, but the process is far slower and takes more time
The three games the animes books and the remake, the cells changing is talked about by 3 different npcs and in a few text logs the markers signal rerights dna its how it turns bodys into biomass for the hivemind
what i love about dead space is that its a story about inevitability. no matter what issac or anyone does, the markers will find a way to win in the end
Sadly, the ishimura itself was the perfect foil for the moons. A ship made to crack planets and moons. If it was a different franchise, the final battle of the franchise would have been an epic climactic duel between humanity in their cracker ships defending earth against the moons.

Any ship that got too close with hostile intent would just be overrun by loonies within a matter of minutes as the entire crew loses their damn minds. A few might make it, and they may even destroy a couple before they lost control, but a couple isn’t enough. The only way to kill these things is to keep a perfectly safe distance(no markers around either)and bombard them with as many high yield torpedos as you can. Even if they use their powers to make you miss, a big ass wall of nuclear death is bound to hit and kill _something._
When this first came out I was the backseat gamer as it was too scary for me at the time. Since then, I have played many horror games and felt I had built a pretty strong tolerance and wished to feel that same fear I felt many years ago. Fate must have answered my call as when my partner came home with the remake in his hands and told me this is it, this is the game you couldn't play, I knew I had to accept the challenge and play for myself - within 10mins all that adrenaline and fear came rushing back - I felt like that little kid again! Can't wait to finish it all by myself 😊
Reminds me of my own experience with horror games. Played the first Silent Hill on a demo disc when I was a kid, it scared the shit out of me. It definitely leaves a calling with you, I eventually got drawn back as a challenge to myself and completed it years later :D
I feel you on that one. I've collected all three originals through sales over the years but could never bring myself to play through them, however with the remake out now I know it's only a matter of time before I'll want to pick it up, so I'm planning to finally tackle the originals once I finish my current game!
I hear you on that! I had to set the controller down and take a breather during the hunter encounter in medical when I played the original when it first came out. I think I was in middle school? Anyways, scared the daylights out of me. I felt really anxious during that point in the remake since I remembered how much it scared me as a kid lol some moments still make me jump. Definitely a good trip down memory lane with each chapter
At this point I feel like Isaac can show up and calmly say "Someone call for an engineer?" and the procede to crush the necros. Man is so insane he has gone right around to sanity again.
My favorite thing about these games horror-wise is that throughout all 3 games, Isaac was basically always just a pawn for the Markers. Spoilers: Dead Space 1: The Marker tricks Isaac into putting it back where it came from so the Hive Mind can awake from its slumber. Dead Space 2: The site 12 Marker tricks Isaac into activating Convergence since Nicoles appirition told him to go to the Marker by any means necessary. Dead Space 3: the Brethren Moons trick Isaac into thinking that he needs to turn off the machine so it destroys the Markers. Dead Space 3 Awakened: The Brethren Moons trick Isaac into thinking that it would follow him back to Earth if he shockspaced back to it and has a fight with Carver, stalling him so the Brethren moons can get back to Earth before he does.
to be fair even if he was first back to Earth, considering they knew the location, what can be done at this point? perhaps evacuate more people? the end seems inevitable

Probably one of the best survival horror games ever made. They broke new ground with dead space I just wish it would've continued with more than just Isaac as the protagonist. It still could've been a great game even switching characters since the places this happened were high in population.
This video was just perfect, from the introduction to filling in key lore aspects from the remake and the movie. Bravo! 👏 Please cover Dead Space 2 and the infestation on Titan Station aka The Sprawl.
I remember as a child thinking this was the scariest game ever made. It was disgusting, gruesome, stressful and perfectly portrayed the tragic fates of the Ishimura’s inhabitants. Thinking of this game would make my heart ache. I only got through a few episodes of a let’s play recorded by Jesse Cox, my favourite UA-camr at the time.
Pretty good stuff. I liked how the comic was added to flesh out the story but there was another comic before that that really went into depth about the colony and what happened there before the planet crack. Really good story.
I'm so glad this games gaining traction again, I adore the universe, one of my favourite, if not my favourite horror ever. Dead Space 2 absolutely needs to be redone too.
There’s also some Audio logs from the cleanup crew talking about how they think they’re being stalked, and that they can hear things in the walls. So what was said in the video is still correct.
Fantastic video as always Wisefish, i had a question on the audio side though, if it sounds really bass heavy is that something on my end that i can change or is that the way it's recorded?
There 2 games in life that once finished i literally stood up and clapped because the level of enjoyment was too much. Those games are the last of us and dead space. Dead space is a masterpiece and this video is amzing im actually gonna watch it again nice 1 bro. ✌️
I just played this for the first time, the remake version, it’s stunningly good, and I hate slow games like that but it’s so tense and fun and crazy I couldn’t put it down
thank you so much for making this video. i've been searching about some horror documentary/lore on the USG Ishimura and today this video is recommended to me. thank you again😊
Perhaps the red marker was fighting the black marker for dominance. If the black marker achieved convergence, then the red marker loses. If the red marker stops the convergence, then it still has a chance to control things for itself.
Bit of a correction it was the Markers signal drove colony insane and it has the ability to reanimate Dead tissue which is what we see with the Necromorphs, as soon as the infector and the Marker were on board hello broke loose
Awesome Lore video Wise Fish! I'd love to see more Dead Space lore videos. With the release of the remake, I'm glad that the game is being introduced to new people. It's such a legendary horror and sci-fi game.
With the new DS remake out, am I the only one that wants a retelling of the animated movie, done better and more lore accurate? And then a more 3rd person view of Extraction? These and two other pieces of media, one mobile game with Vandal and one other movie are severely outdated I feel and could honestly do with a brush up and retelling as their own remakes.
A remake of extraction as a DLC for the remake would be phenomenal! The animated movie could work, but it would end up ao different that it would be pointless to redo it
@@rdowg fair enough on the movie, but extraction would definitely have merit as either a DLC or its own standalone. I know Extraction was a rail shooter, but I will be honest, that today wouldn't really feel right if that makes sense?
Honestly, tho, Extraction would be an interesting bit of DLC for the remake- but Motive would have to contend with the licensing issues from only having Wii and PS3 ports. Granted, it probably wouldn't be that hard also adding in the storyline from the comics as well, mixing it into Extraction's already short plot.
@@TheCoffeeBird tbh I love rail shooters, so I'll take whatever I could get....but there's enough content to stretch it out into a full-blown DLC for the remake I would mind either way, as I never got to play the original extraction
Nice video, although I thought that the Kellion was called before Alissa send the distress signal, I thought the ones that received that signal were te crew of three happy spacemen and also.. Vincent knew Nicole, she didn’t save her. Nicole was trying to save survivors like Vincent was and also Vincent left Lexine crew with Nicole, other than that I think you got it right. ^^
I really liked how you used the in game sign to fill in the title. Great video of always. Very easy to listen to and just a well done video. Thank you for such great content
Thank u for giving me a reason to enjoy more of this game. I wasn’t playing when these games first arrived so I had no clue about the lore . I’m like 20% done only n had no clue there we’re so much lore 😮 Even animation done 😅
I really hope they remaster the other two game's and fix what was done to game three there's a whole generation that won't play the OG game's for obvious reasons and this is the only chance Dead Space can continue.
I had never played Dead Space or knew much about the lore because when it first came out, I was a child, but when this remake came out, I decided to expand my lore before I got the game. So I watched Dead Space Extraction with no idea that the Ishimura crew would end up how they ended up, needless to say, it was nice to see things that way than already know that it was doomed from playing the game
I absolutely love this entire franchise. I want to say dead space 2 is my most played game of all time. I think I stopped somewhere around new game +11. Just everything about it is endlessly fascinating.
Dead space is with no question one of the best horror survival ever made. The story, the graphics, the atmosphere....I am shitting bricks everytime I play one of those, but they are amazing games, and the remake is absolutely stunning.
Is the Ishimura the *largest*? In the original they say "The largest of her class" I always assumed that meant they did have larger ones but they just never gained the same fame as the Ishimura
I’d like to see a DLC of the outbreak on the colony. We got a decent look at what happens in the comic, the movie and extraction BUT to actually live it, through the magnetized boots of a random survivor or PSEC officer making their last stand…. That would be insane
Dead space is so grim, earth gov is opposed to the unitologists, but both want to use the marker for their own gains. earthgov might even be more evil than the unis, the only faction that could be called "neutral" were the SCAF, and they were destroyed in the distant past, way before the events of DS
not only that but the entire story is just the hive mind and markers pulling the strings with the end result being exactly the game name - dead space, life loses. it's so grim but it's so good
I find it absolutely unbelievable, completely ridiculous, that shards of the Marker that got a whole continent dropped on it somehow hit the Ishimura. Absolutely no possibility of that happening.
Almost as unbelievable as a rock capable of reanimating dead flesh, a cult growing so powerful it overtakes governments, a horde of moon sized Eldritch deities that wiped out all life in the universe and a normal engineer managing to survive all that?
Good point. There where shards of the red marker used for research already on the Ishumura. It would have been so much easier to just use those instead of having shards be stuck to the hull.
@@saultdog1603 i was just thinking that. Astronomically more probable Mercer or someone else would've chipped off some pieces for study than multiple shots being hit on a target smaller than the head of a pin from the perspective of an object on the surface of a planet.
I cannot express enough how pleased I am with this remake. No extra shallow twitter politics or millennial meta snark or really awkward virtue signals. Just a damn fine game. Any lore added only lended to the original universe and tied elements of the story together. I’m legit proud of this studio and I really hope they go on to do more Deadspace, or hell more squadrons, I loved that game as well. OR EVEN Deadspace VR.
Ehhhh, I'm not sure about them not dipping into shallow politics. I can't say for certain as I only have seen others talk about it, but IIRC they added gender neutral bathrooms and made the woman you work with a lesbian for basically no reason; but that is so out-of-the-way that I'm mentally arguing over whether calling it out is worth it. I just hope they don't take it too far in the future.
@@Manglet762 dude I’m really right wing and I hate the obnoxious woke shit and it is not at all a factor in this game. Idk man it’s obvious they made the posters and bathrooms for “modern” minded activist types but it really just doesn’t matter or intrude. Gender neutral bathrooms in the future on a mining ship isn’t far fetched either.
nice to see you didn't include the lore of dead space 3 - because I thought they just crashed the lore to crap with that installment They should carry the story on from Sprawl destruction in a different manner I hope :D
My buddy has a theory that the markers can subtly influence the evolution of single celled animals into sentient species with space travel capabilities to further the ends of the brother moons
I’m new to this game and maybe I missed it on my first play through or it’s explained in subsequent games. But why was there not an outbreak on earth with the black marker? Did we get something wrong when reverse engineering the red marker?
So were there only infectors on the planet that started to infect people on the colony? Who was infected person 0? Cause all we see in the game is what people look like once infected.
The markers cause dementia and madness to all sentient creatures in a radius. Eventually the end up either commiting suicide or killing each other. Once dead the markers transform the bodies into necromorphs as either slashers, infectors or the wide variety of other necromorph types. Infectors increase the speed of an outbreak and can infect people outside the range of the marker.
Dead space is legit one of the best horror game franchises to ever exists even til this day playing through dead space one and two I get paranoid as shit wondering through corridors it’s a shame what EA did to this franchise
If only they managed to hack into the store and purchased as much ammo they could muster then they might've had a better chance of surviving. Just kidding, this was a great vid. It was a fun experience playing through Dead Space Remake and seeing the aftermath of the infestation but being in the crisis as it's happening is a whole another thing.
I watched those movies as a kid, and I always thought it was just a cheap rip off the game, now older playing the remake I've come to realize the movies were accurate and quite dope
Hope you guys enjoyed this video and do let me know if you’d like to see more Dead Space lore as I’d love to do more on it!

I’m glad dead space is talked about again.
Very you played the remake on ps5/Xbox sx?
@@loosensloppy83 Both actually.
Dead space downfall is free to watch on UA-cam. It's worth the watch. Straight prequel to first game.
I love how the half lit sign of
"Ishimura" at the start of the ship spells SIU
The weird thing about the artificial red Marker was that it seemed to be trying to stop the black Marker from achieving Convergence.
Perhaps the red marker was fighting the black marker for dominance. If the black marker achieved convergence, then the red marker loses. If the red marker stops the convergence, then it still has a chance to control things for itself.
@@jaysherman2615 this makes sense since there's a limited amount of biomass available to them
got that Roanoke style thumbnail
Bit of a correction it was the Markers signal drove colony insane and it has the ability to reanimate Dead tissue which is what we see with the Necromorphs, as soon as the infector and the Marker were on board hello broke loose
Holy shit, you truly make the most fantastic content. Big, big ups to you, my dude
Thank you so much my friend! Really appreciate that!
Now we need a video about the markers!
If you haven't read the books, I HIGHLY recommend them. Martyr is my favorite of the series.
Awesome Lore video Wise Fish! I'd love to see more Dead Space lore videos. With the release of the remake, I'm glad that the game is being introduced to new people. It's such a legendary horror and sci-fi game.
I’m 100% betting the chief security of the ishimura is regretting turning on the engines.🐱
If they do decide to remake the whole series again I don't know how they can improve DS2 since it was near perfect already.
You're not the only one
@@TheCoffeeBird tbh I love rail shooters, so I'll take whatever I could get....but there's enough content to stretch it out into a full-blown DLC for the remake
I would mind either way, as I never got to play the original extraction
Here’s to hoping the remake Dead space 2 (the best dead space) or even start a new trilogy.
Isaac, make us whole again!
I really liked how you used the in game sign to fill in the title. Great video of always. Very easy to listen to and just a well done video. Thank you for such great content
@@scramblingblambles8715 lol oops i did. Thanks for pointing that out 👍
10:59 that isn’t Nicole
She was with Nathan McNeill and others at the time (Dead Space: Extraction)
I think this game would make a great movie/TV Show
Very nice video
But I still need a bit more info about the marker
How exactly did it came on that planet? Was it made there? And by who ?
playing this right now and im kinda facinated. just recently heard Dallas's recording and aww man.
Despite what some feel, I've always like the return ishamura, it's one of the only times in a video game where i had signs of ptsd.
For some reason I thought you were Roanoke.
Probably cuz I was watching him cover the necromorphs earlier
Thank u for giving me a reason to enjoy more of this game. I wasn’t playing when these games first arrived so I had no clue about the lore . I’m like 20% done only n had no clue there we’re so much lore 😮 Even animation done 😅
Love your videos man, always. Keep up the good work. (Close to beating the game, I'm so hyped to finish it up and replay Dead Space 2&3)
Great work on the video wisefish, i look forward to playing the remake.
Fantastic video. Definitely more dead space lore! Wow!
I absolutely love this entire franchise. I want to say dead space 2 is my most played game of all time. I think I stopped somewhere around new game +11. Just everything about it is endlessly fascinating.
Back when Dead space 2 was still new, I was always wondering how the Ishimura somehow got to Saturn's moon.
Maybe a emergency signal from a person on the ship before it got to be chaos. That's a good question.
Dead space is with no question one of the best horror survival ever made. The story, the graphics, the atmosphere....I am shitting bricks everytime I play one of those, but they are amazing games, and the remake is absolutely stunning.
It's some nasty necromorphe you got there in the thumbnail, tobad they didn't use that model again, cause it's much scarier than in the remake.
Good job making this in 5 days!
I was enjoying it so much I had to make something lol
@@WiseFish i enjoyed it so much i had to watch your video to relive the horror!
Don't forget the important timeline when *B.I.G ishumura explorer Uranus*
Is the Ishimura the *largest*? In the original they say "The largest of her class" I always assumed that meant they did have larger ones but they just never gained the same fame as the Ishimura
It's probably not the largest ship, but the biggest planet cracker
@@rdowg I meant having larger planet crackers. You wouldn't compare a barge to a battleship, yknow?
Her class meaning “planet cracker.” So yes, the largest one.
I’d like to see a DLC of the outbreak on the colony. We got a decent look at what happens in the comic, the movie and extraction BUT to actually live it, through the magnetized boots of a random survivor or PSEC officer making their last stand…. That would be insane
Dead space is so grim, earth gov is opposed to the unitologists, but both want to use the marker for their own gains. earthgov might even be more evil than the unis, the only faction that could be called "neutral" were the SCAF, and they were destroyed in the distant past, way before the events of DS
not only that but the entire story is just the hive mind and markers pulling the strings with the end result being exactly the game name - dead space, life loses. it's so grim but it's so good
The music in the remake reminded me of the Alien franchise. Was really well done. The hunter is still a pain in the butt.
@@user-DrKritz115 no, no piss off. Suspension of disbelief has its limits.
Dead space is without a doubt the best cosmic horror to come out in the past 50 years
One of us will be long gone in the 25th century
How is this still not a movie, and i don't mean an animated one
Gender neutral bathrooms in the future on a mining ship isn’t far fetched either.
nice to see you didn't include the lore of dead space 3 - because I thought they just crashed the lore to crap with that installment
They should carry the story on from Sprawl destruction in a different manner I hope :D
They really need to make a game about finding the ishimura the way it was after dead space 1 and we should play as Schneider.
Sounds like a universe where they actually care or cared for their workers
My buddy has a theory that the markers can subtly influence the evolution of single celled animals into sentient species with space travel capabilities to further the ends of the brother moons
*spits drink* OH COME OOOON
ishimura means 'stone village'
What if everything we experience in the Dead Space Games is just a fever dream while we are dying aftere the crash of the Ishimura?
Let’s gooooo, WiseFish Dead Space video 🙌🏼
I’m new to this game and maybe I missed it on my first play through or it’s explained in subsequent games. But why was there not an outbreak on earth with the black marker? Did we get something wrong when reverse engineering the red marker?
There was an outbreak on Earth from the Black Marker, but it was contained.
someone should make a compilation of him saying Ishimura
great video thanks love to see more of dead space
So were there only infectors on the planet that started to infect people on the colony? Who was infected person 0? Cause all we see in the game is what people look like once infected.
The markers cause dementia and madness to all sentient creatures in a radius. Eventually the end up either commiting suicide or killing each other. Once dead the markers transform the bodies into necromorphs as either slashers, infectors or the wide variety of other necromorph types. Infectors increase the speed of an outbreak and can infect people outside the range of the marker.
The marker itself can reanimate dead tissue. The infectors just help speed along the process of creating necros.
Altman be praised!
Thanks for this video! Love the new remake.
"Destroying everything of value in it."
Everything except the Peng statue. We have an asshole engineer to thank for the loss of THAT particular item
Excellent video!! I love the comic book scans!!! I really want to buy it if they did in fact make a comic
Reminds me of the Silent Hill comics
Bro trying to be Roanoke so hard with that thumbnail
Dead space is legit one of the best horror game franchises to ever exists even til this day playing through dead space one and two I get paranoid as shit wondering through corridors it’s a shame what EA did to this franchise
If only they managed to hack into the store and purchased as much ammo they could muster then they might've had a better chance of surviving.
Just kidding, this was a great vid.
It was a fun experience playing through Dead Space Remake and seeing the aftermath of the infestation but being in the crisis as it's happening is a whole another thing.
The Ishimura definitely has a dark story behind it.
I love the connection btw Dead Space Downlfall and the games
If I would write a general direction for Dead Space 4, I would retcon the Black Marker as Humanity's last defense against the Brethren Moons.
but that would kind of change the premise of the game imo
I watched those movies as a kid, and I always thought it was just a cheap rip off the game, now older playing the remake I've come to realize the movies were accurate and quite dope
Nah, man... Dead Space 2008.. scariest game other than Alien Isolation
Great video! Thanks for the content!
