Where did he spill on the rift? The rift was created when he sided with Tommy instead of Mariah. His credits are never questioned. Mariah comes up with a melody and lyrics, and then Walter's job is to work on the melody which Mariah has in her mind, play it out (because Mariah can't play them) and give the song a presentable structure. This is what Mariah has always said, and this is also what Walter has said always. Mariah mentions him in every official talk on this song though she has a personal rift with him. @@ramonpadilha9987 Yes, that's the whole problem with Walter, he is two-faced and very contradictory, he told BBC this year he was thinking of how Mariah would sing the song when he was writing AIWFCIY. Walter is a very hard source to use for this very reason.
those lyrics are so Mariah. She is the face of the song , she’s the voice. She has in just about every interview I’ve seen of her, respectfully mentions that she wrote it with Walter but whether the mentions or not he’s cashing in big time every Christmas season for being a co writer so...
Yes, it was, thank you. It's like no one likes to challenge Walter's statements or what he has done wrong but they will always find a way to challenge Mariah's. Walter is the one who keeps changing his story every year. Walter should've reached out to Mariah and made amends with her by offering her his percentage of the publishing. I am sure she would've brought it from him.
Mariah & him made magic together. It really is a shame they ended on bad terms. I blame Sony & Tommy. He had nice things to say here surprisingly, so theres hope for a reunion eventually
No, Mariah was and still is the magic, but Walter can definitely go for a liar. When you choose to trash the very person who made your career possible to every media that will have you on their platform, you no nice person.
Walter still called her a liar, so how is that nice? Let me help you with that, it's not nice nor is it fair to make such a statement about someone, when you yourself have been the one rewriting history, and calling people "crazy, crazy" for telling their side of the story. And please, for the love of Good God, stop hoping, praying, and wishing for a reunion. If he went on a press tour with any media that will have him calling you a liar, crazy, jealous, insecure, and also call your now very much deceased friend the same, you wouldn't want to be around him either.
Mariah was a young girl 17-26 when he worked with her. She was still learning so much and heavily sheltered because of Tommy. For Walter to ever speak badly about Mariah's lack of experience or knowledge musically at that tender age when she was still so very far ahead of anyone in her age group tells you everything you need to know about his lack of ethics, confidence and respect of women he works with. She was a young girl developing her talent professionally. He should go back in hiding and shut his mouth about a woman who hasn't needed his help in 20 years to remain relevant - funny, the same can't be said for him.

Tell Walter to stop coming for Mariah, there is nothing funny about what Walter did to her. They definitely parted ways for that reason plus Walter was a butthole. Walter has told so many different stories about the creation of ALWFCIY that it's hard to believe a word he says.

I like your comment lad but, did he help to write the song or was it already written with the melodies then given to him (under Mariah's guidance) to adjust? I think that's how it went and, in that case, he never wrote it-he revised the lyrics to adjust them carefully to the keys of his instrument(the piano). Was he instrumental in the song being a hit? Yes,an undeniable yes but no one or nearly no one in 1994 would have bought the song without Mariah's voice on the record and her signature writing style. @Daniel Soza Because that would've been the right thing to do, especially since he was really 10% of the song, in terms of its music arrangments, and co-production. He already did whatever he wanted to do, that's why he is no longer the 50% owner of the music.
With all the mess between Walter and his plastic trash. It's a classy blessing that Mariah hasn't badmouth Walter. However, Walter has badmouth Mariah and her genius, he called her a liar in this very interview.
I wish Walter was part of Mariah's Magical Christmas... I'm confused as well with what Mariah said that she wrote this song with a little piano, etc... I just hope he gives Walter the credits he also deserve...
He sat there and watched Mariahs husband threaten her with a knife to her face and said nothing. He reported back to her husband every move she made, every one she talked to and basically was a human surveillance system tbat reported to Tommy everything she did or said
Why does everyone compare Walter to Mariah? What’s your point? Walter does best what he does and Mariah does best what she does and when they used to come together they created magic. Imho Walter is an excellent producer, he may not be the original creator of a song but he knows best how to make it beautiful. It’s like handing him a rough diamond and getting a beautiful cut diamond in return and then Mariah takes that beautifully cut diamond and she polishes it with her vocals including her background vocals and voilà you get a Tiffany diamond. I think what’s missing in her later recordings is the arrangement parts, the idea is there, the execution is perfect but when the diamond cutter is not a master you don’t get to create the hit records you used to create anymore and on top of that you need good marketing as well. And Mariah is doing her own marketing herself nowadays which must be tough on her not having a giant label like Sony behind you and I tip my hat to her for her determination and effort! We all know the feud between them but render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.
Giving too much credit to Walter. All I Want is mostly Mariah’s creation ! Maybe next time interview Mariah about all the songs she wrote. But of course because she is a woman, she doesn’t write anything... 😜
The "kid" thing is just Mariah humorous way to refer to herself as a young woman since she doesn't recognize aging and birthdays, all lamps knows this and I bet he does too. He himself said in the same interview that she wrote the melody but he still disses her beacuse somehow he made the instrument arrangements in his computer! He literally proved what she's been saying.. SHE wrote the melody which is the base structure of the song and SHE wrote the lyrics so basically she has the upper hand when it comes to songwriting credits not him! He's just desperate for attention since all the hits he "co-wrote" were with her.
I love the energy of this interview! The cohosts just radiate this fun light hearted energy, especially the bit with the zipper 😂 It seems like the news outlets over there are so much more livelier and charismatic than the biased monotonous stations in America. But I will say the energy was kind of off when they asked him that question about the validity of his credentials
Walter was best friends with tomato ketchup Tommy the fool MC felt he was just under he's thumb so she finally flew away from him and others I don't know him sorry MC lyrics are to deep for any one to come near her some one like a icon who's had 19 no hits

"Mariah wrote the song!" - Wrong. The song is definitely his and his sound. Lyrics to a song are arguably the least important part. The guy literally arranged and made the music happen. Making a great song is not.
You could have just said you had no idea what you were talking about and moved on. Mariah laid down the melody of the verse and chorus and brought the rest to Walter to help her finish. She then wrote all the lyrics. She talked about this in her LA Times interview this year. Also, Walter had no part in writing My Heart Will Go On. He was one of three producers on the song.
This song is nowhere the cause of the rift.
True, but I have seen a video of Mariah playing the piano and she is way better than she gives herself credit for.

I think what’s missing in her later recordings is the arrangement parts, the idea is there, the execution is perfect but when the diamond cutter is not a master you don’t get to create the hit records you used to create anymore and on top of that you need good marketing as well.
