River of rubbish: Can the Seine be ready for the 2024 Olympics?

- The host city of #Paris is hoping to organise a swimming competition for the 2024 #Olympic Games. But first, a massive clean-up operation has to get underway. Some 360 tonnes of waste are dredged up out of the murky waters every year. Everything from bikes to scooters and old safes can pollute the waters, and these items must all be pulled out and recycled. Our colleagues at France 2 report, with FRANCE 24's Camille Pauvarel.

What kind of animals just throw scooters and bikes into a river?
Edited:
It could be stressing to pay for parking your car in the neighborhood and you come home from work and all the time you find one of them blocking the spot, if near the river then ... :) it could be also a corporate insurance scam. Greed is a beach, I had some bank loans at french banks in eastern Europe, and it was a terrible experience.
When you don't own it then you can dispose of it with no arm... It helps quite a bit if you have no morality/integrity at all... I hope fishes could cope with lithium...
@@vermicelledecheval5219 why not try to write your comment in french we might translate it with google translate , I feel your message is important but unfortunately is missed it's potential
what kind of animals dumps these scooters in your city without permission
That river has been a sewer for hundreds of years . Who would want to swim in that for the Olympics?
This is the same all across the globe....
The earth is one universal dump
Thanos was right
I wonder if these clean up efforts were always around but it's difficult to maintain because people are still dumping or if suddenly there's a big rush to clean out the river because of the Olympics
they were looking for frogs legs and snails but only found fish and bikes.
Both
300 years of garbage. cleaned up in 2 years? 😏
those scooters are a blight on every city that has them hated them when I visited Paris in 2019
Wow! Thanks Sophie x
the River Sein looks like a genuine healing for the parisien :) it washes away all the problems
AKA, the Mother Ganges purge
Seine, not Sein.
They should be using a giant magnet instead.
But those are rusted
@@loyaltyoptimismversatilityerud Rusty steel is still magnetic.
@@duanehorton4680 sorry my school science teacher says no.
@@loyaltyoptimismversatilityerud From Google: "Rust is a form of iron oxide that forms when iron or steel is exposed to oxygen and moisture. While rust itself is not magnetic, the underlying metal can still retain its magnetic properties even when rusted."
Javert probably think twice before he jump
Great honorable work, I love when people clean up after themselves, it's so dignified 👍💪😁
They are cleaning up after others, not themselves.
no matter bout the semantics just the garbage@@duanehorton4680
We have used the earth as a toilet - remember the movie Oh God! with George Burns??!!
Animals are ashamed of what these creatures are doing in polluting these water sheds.
Watersheds is one word, not two.
interesting.
Rats and Rusting Civilization
❤️❤️❤️👌
What's wrong with French people? This is nonsensical.
Those Olympics again what a massive waste of money and so bad for the environment.
Cheers 🇨🇦
The whole dam planet is a wasted environmental waste land
So cleaning up the environment is bad for the environmemt? What are you on
